[Q] Deleted Gallery now I need help - Droid Eris Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok half of the problem is I deleted the gallery from my Eris running vanilla tazz 26. I mistook it for something else when I was deleting it.
After searching I found this over on the desire forums:

Hey,
Here's the file to install Gallery 3D to the Desire.
You have 2 ways of installing:
1) Install Android USB Driver (search for it) run the following commands:
adb install <filename and path>
2) Copy to SD Card, open in a file manager (make sure "install from unknown sources" is checked in menu) (untested)
New version:
Gallery works great, launches camera, and plays videos!

When I installed it everything seems to work fine except the camera button. It dosn't work because I also deleted the stock camera. I use FxCamera. I just like it better. When I'm in FxCamera and I push the gallery button it takes me to the 3dGallery I installed which is perfect thats what I want it to do.
My question is when I'm in 3dGallery and I push the camera button can I make it automatically open FxCamera? Right now when I push the cam button in 3dgallery it just force closes. Thank you so much in advance.

To make it open fxcamera, I don't know. However if you ever want your gallery and camera back, an easy way is to just pull them out of the roms .zip file.
Edit: I suppose you would have to decompile the gallery3d.apk and edit some xml to change the targeted app to open when that button is pushed

Possible to install AOSP Contacts.apk with Blur?

Ok I've done a little research on this but can't find what I'm looking for exactly.
I really don't like the Blur Contacts app. I have figured out how to filter things correctly so I only get my usual Google contacts but I'd still like to get one feature back that I had on CM - direct dial and direct text message shortcuts. They were supported through the AOSP Contacts app from what I can figure out. The Blur Contacts app has something similar but it doesn't work consistently. Does anyone know if it's possible to install the Contacts.apk and ContactsProvider.apk extracted from CM 6.1.1 (what I had on my EVO) and bring them over to my rooted Atrix?
I'd like a different contacts manager as well. This one combines services which is not what I want/need. Any suggestions that are similar to CM contacts on N1 would be appreciated!
+1 more here for a different contacts app.
+1
Bump
I'd also love the AOSP dialer

I tired this few days ago, nothing worked. =/
Click install throws an error and says it can't be installed. Pushing the apk to /system just has no result.
Moto's contacts are terrible.
How to Install Android AOSP Apk, in any system.
Find the AOSP apps from a CM6 build by unzipping and pulling the .apk file like browser.apk. Install "File Expert" (Free and amazing file browser with full root access and alteration capabilities application)
Copy the .apk you wish to have on to your phones SD Card
Run File Expert,
hit menu/more/File Explorer settings. Then check "Root Explorer" on the bottom.
hit menu/more/mount/Mount As Read Write
Browse to /System/Apps Find the App you wish to replace with the AOSP version.
Hold Down on the App and when the options come up choose file operations and rename to something like application name.apk.bak
Browse to your SD Card find your app. hold down to choose file operation then choose copy.
Go back to /System/Apps then hit Menu button and choose paste.
Locate the app you just pasted and hold down on it and in file operations choose "permissions" Check Everything and exit out of File Expert
Note: You may need to redo the shortcuts for the app on your desktop and or launcher.
Note: Must have a rooted phone.
Note: 2.3.3 apps may or may not work on 2.2 Android Roms and vice versa.
Note: if this causes errors or failures delete the new apk and rename the old apk to its original name.
Good luck!!
can someone upload the contacts apks?

Download the latest Cyanogen mod for your phone or any. Unzip on your pc and go to the folder labeled system/apps. Get the apps you want from there and pass them to your phone via USB to your phone then follow my previous instructions.
I have already tried to install a different dialer/contacts app. I had no luck, I think that the stock dialer/contacts are to deeply tied into motoblur and the phone system. It won't break your system but you just will not have a dialer or contacts.
Did you try it to my exact instructions. Making sure to you the cyanogen mod that corresponds to your version of android? If it didnt show up on your list you may have tried the 2.3.3 instead of s2.2 dialer.
Oh, I would love to hear the solution to this. I have been trying to figure this out for a couple days now. I pulled Contacts.apk from a Liberty backup I have and have been trying to replace BlurContacts.apk with it to no avail. I believe someone above may have touched on it. Possibly to change when other things look for BlurContacts, and instead refer to Contacts.apk?
I have tried several different contact apps. None work I think that the blur apps are to deeply tied into the system to allow a change.
Bump
any progress ??

I've actually been using GoContacts. It seems to work like how I want my contacts to work(I.E like ASOP) plus allows for a little bit more tweakability.

For those like me who need corporate sync and like the blur universal inbox you can install just that portion of the moto bloatware instead of all of it.
** EDIT ** I'm adding a couple more applications now. Please, others jump in to do other applications because I'm out of time working on my Atrix for this week!
** WARNING ** I'm not an android dev and this process has only been tested on my phone. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!
There are 3 files attached.
messaging.zip - restores original blur messagine apps, including corporate sync, txt messaging with balloon conversation mode, and the universal inbox. It does not have the messaging widget.
taskman.zip - if you liked moto's Task Manager app, this will restore it for you so you can kill tasks and uninstall like before GB.
gallery.zip - restores the moto Medial Gallery application. Note the GB version of Gallery will still exist and both will work.
Quick instructions:
* You will need CWM Recovery for this
* Follow CWM instructions exactly - especially the part about plugging into the AC adapter or it won't work!
**NOTE** this will also install the original blur txt messaging interface with the conversation balloon mode. Its all one application so no way around it that I know of.
1) copy one of the zip files (attached) to your sdcard root directory
2) run CWM according to instructions in its thread
3) after reboot into CWM select "Install zip from SDCARD"
4) select "Choose zip from internal sdcard"
5) scroll down to the zip file name (ex: messaging.zip)
6) select the file (power button) and run the update
7) go back to main menu and select "Reboot system now"
A few steps but doesn't take long. I just pulled these out of the gingerblur-bloatware.zip and figured out what file structure you have to leave in place for it to function.
Hope this will save people some time.

I think there's a bloatware restorer on the greyblur site. Try that.
Will that install it all back tho or will i be able to pic
well ill look at it and see if it can do only one thing
thanks i forgot about that
Alright so i found them in the files there how do i delete the new one and get this old one back on there? im so confused help!
Still have not figured it out some one help?

That thread helped me how 2 install the files but i cant install them it tells me
Application not installed any clue how 2 fix this and remove the old one some thing? any one?
You need to download the messaging bloatware zip, reboot into recoverymode and use CWM to install that zip file... It's the same process as installing grey/gingerblur.
Well if i new where the messaging bloatware zip was i would try 2 get that
i know they have the full one with everything but is there one with only the messaging part? or some thing like that?
Well i tryed 2 just install the messager part and i soft bricked my phone just fixed that but still dont have the old messaging system
Go to the android development section and find the gingerblur thread (it shouldn't be difficult). Then go to the gingerblur website given in the thread and download the bloatware.zip. you will also need tenfars cwm recovery which is in the development section also. Then just flash the zip file using the cwm recovery guide. Make sure your phone is plugged into a wall outlet charger when you do this (not a computer USB port) or it won't work.

Summary:
-rename mms.apk to mms.apk.bak
-rename conversations.apk.bak back to converstaions.apk

Polaris Office for the Touchpad

Found a working package for the Touchpad:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/33540509/cwmpolafficea500.zip
It works for me on ICS Alpha0.5.
Flash it in recovery and you're good to go.
This package is not my work nor am I responsible for it not working on yours or doing any harm.
Hope it works on yours too.

Thanks. I will try it out. They really should bring it to the market, they'd make way more money than through OEM s
Works great so far, but have to say that each time you flash a new build (today Dalingrin released A0.6) you have to flash this file again.
Recommended is to place the file in your cminstall folder (I assume most have set a specific folder for all their flash files) and flash it each time you flash the new build & gapps etc.
I just installed the app and copyed the lib and apk files using Root Explorer and set the R/W to the same as everything else. If you just install the apk it will launch but force close when you try to create a new document.
I have been using OfficeSuite Pro 5 and liking it in the past. It was the only Office Suite that supported a tablet UI on CM7
been looking for this. thanks.

What do you mean? For me it worked out-of-the-box.
Even create and edit of documents.
Polaris Office - cannot edit
Hi all,
I have installed this package using the rootexplorer method.
It works well on my HP Touchpad, Dual boot with AOKP.
But I cannot edit the documents, I can create new and save. But there is no option to edit. It is like this package is designed for android devices with a menu button. i.e. open file , menu, edit....
Does anyone know a workaround or, have an ICS compatible package that displays the menu button?
Thanks.

Push the linked apk
This mod was suppose to be for deodexed custom ROMs only. I'll make another patch for odex ROM and post an update.
If anyone can deodex it right now and give me a link I'll appreciate it as I don't have the tools right now to make one.
Or maybe try removing the /system/app/HTCAlbum.odex file and see if it will work.

If you flash the zip, you don't need push the apk.
But flash it ONLY if you're on de-odex rom.
For the ppl having issues with the mod, you could just freeze Facebook engines with titanium backup or uninstall, disable Facebook from system apps, and reinstall. This way u will still have Facebook but not in gallery or blinkfeed.
Does this mod only remove facebook or the entire online services square?
Hi guys! I have made an update for this mod. Please refer to the main thread at the moment
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=41424874
It should address the issues with those that have odexed ROMs and if it fails I also provided a flashable zip to restore back the original gallery app.
@denisesballs
It removes only the facebook & picasa friends images on the main window of the gallery. The online services folder is still there because if you click it you would have the option to view the photo's that was suppose to be shown on the main gallery window.
To make it plain and simple this mod removes the cluttered pictures of facebook & picasa on your gallery not remove the social plugin of the gallery. Although I'm planning on making a mod that totally removes it soon.
For the people that just want to hide the pictures from gallery.

[tutorial] gcam install on m31

Hey Guys. This is a tutorial to bring out the best in your phone camera by installing GCAM. In this case we will be installing a made for exynos variant of gcam called ZGCAM. Same software optimization but built for exynos.
To get all features follow this step by step guide. (HDR+, PANORAMA, LENS BLUR,VIDEO ETC)
First download this apk from my media fire link. (The actual website will push ads to you which no one likes)
Link removed.
Download and Install this .APK file.
At first when you install it, only video and other minor features will work, but camera mode won't work.
To fix this we must use a custom config file to use ZGCAM for our specifications.
First Go to your default files app
When u install ZGCAM a new folder will popup in your internal storage (Phone Not SD) and it will be called GCam
If a "Configs" folder isn't present, create one (inside gcam directory).
After this download this file - M31CONFIG.xml
https://www.mediafire.com/file/u95oyhsvrceqjwe/M31CONFIG.xml/file
Move this file from Downloads to Gcam-Configs folder.
After this open ZGCAM (on the home screen it will be called camera with a red shutter logo)
Touch and hold a black are in the ui at the bottom for around 3 seconds (not any of the buttons). After that an option will popup, saying RESTORE CONFIGS, and after that because u moved the config file, u will get an option to restore this config.
After that u will have working GCAM for your samsung 31.
