2.1 Update, loss of functionality? - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi I recently got an Xperia x10 from a store,no data plan etc. (not from a phone company)
however when I start the phone, the Rogers logo flashes and what not.
I am currently in Canada, (NA)
I used the installed application on the phone (PC companion?) to update my phone, and it runs on 2.1 now.
However, I can no longer use my chinese keyboard when typing, even though the settings for chinese keyboards and inputs are still there, I can no longer change the keyboard or have chinese as an input language.
Furthermore, I was using the wifi on my phone to access the android market to get another chinese IME and the aps never seem to start the download.
I was wondering if these are side effects of the 2.1 update, or maybe theres firewalls or something blocking android market access.
Any information regarding this is greatly appreciated,
I have no knowledge in the fields of unlocking or unbranding and haven't have done so with my x10.

hi,
you`ve lost chinese keyboard because when you flash your phone to the new FW he gets FW from Rogers, witch seems, don`t have chineses keyboard.
try to flash your phone with a generic FW and you will get that keyboard (i think, at least when i did that i have that one).
you can get the latest one HERE or HERE.
please make sure you´ve read properly all instructions

Or you could download and reinstall it - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=826849

[Q] ROM level needed for internet video

I tried to search this but the search function won't work for me.
My phone is brand new U.S. model with 1.6 installed.
I was connected to the web via my home wireless.
I can't watch videos on the web. Do I need to upgrade? If so, to what level?
Is there a setting I can change?
Also, there were popups galore. How do you select individual browser windows to close when this happens? I could only do all of them.
I think you need at least Android 2.1 to run flash. Try Skyfire for a browser, it will probably work a lot better than the stock browser on 1.6, but really you should be able to just download the US update to get to 2.2 which would be a lot better than what you have now.
The phone says it is up to date.
When I go to check for updates, the phone claims there are none. Do I have to cheat and risk the warranty to get updated?

You can get an official Dell upgrade package from this page.
You can visit this link
http://mobileupdate.dell.com/PackageProductionLocations/Streak_318_12821_00.pkg
or scan this barcode (it's for the link above)

from your phone to DL the update direct to your phone. If you tap on the notification for the DL after it completes it should install. If it does not
rename it update.pkg and put it in the root of your SD Card
Boot into recovery mode by powering off, then powering on while holding BOTH volume buttons
Select option 2 from the recovery menu to install the update
This will be the same as a factory reset and you will have to install your apps and set up your phone again.
That build is for unlocked Streaks. If you want to install the latest official build for your carrier you can probably get it from this page.
AT&T locked
Thank you very much.
So if I have a locked AT&T phone, I have three options, if I understand this correctly.
1) Leave it alone and live without Flash capability.
2) Update to whatever is on the last link.
3) Use the non-official update I've seen on this forum. Has the latest one (1.9 I think) been out long enough to be determined if it is stable?
Thanks again for the patience and help.
Okay, so the link on the Wiki page for a non-unlocked AT&T phone downloads a .mbn file. The other one was a .pkg and if I could use it, I would put it on my SD card. What do I do with the .mbn file to use it to update the Streak? I'm sure there is a thread for using that type of file, so if ysomebody could point me to it, I'll go from there. Preferably a thread that assumes minimal base knowledge level beyond generally using the phone.

[Q] I'm ready to convert to Android, but which phone?

I'm ready to convert to Android! My current phone is an HTC Touch Pro 2 (Rhodium). Or at least it was, until it was bricked during a failed update (corrupted bootloader). Now I'm using my backup phone, a Chinese "shanzhai" Nokia copy (says NDKLA with the D looking like an O and the L looking like an I). It's time to buy Android!

I loved the Touch Pro 2 because it not only had a touch screen, but a pull-out keyboard as well. I live in China, which means I need the touch screen to write Chinese characters, but for writing English I prefer a real keyboard. I can't stand soft keyboards otherwise I'd get an iPhone. Can anyone recommend a decent Android phone for me?
Considerations:
1) I assume I'll install Cyanogenmod on it, but I don't know how yet.
2) Price isn't too much of a consideration, but I gotta have that keyboard.
3) Asia so it's a GSM phone.
4) Some phones for the domestic Chinese market have wifi disabled, in order to generate more business for China Unicom's 3G service. I can buy from Hong Kong or the Chinese gray market if I want a "real" phone.
5) How's the Chinese (simplified) input method on Android? There were several input methods on WM 6.5, but some of the third-party ones (QQ, A4) remapped the keyboard so that SHIFT and CTRL didn't work correctly.
Thanking everyone in advance to avoid irrelevant "thankyou" posts!
5, android can read any language. But if you want to write, you can use different keyboard from market. I'm a Chinese too . We don't have control and alternate button on keyboard.
You can log in into cyanogen website and check the supported phone
Accidentally sent from my Google Nexus S using XDA Premium
Someone recommended the Xiaomi phone. Does it have English version in the custom OS? Swype? It has a big fat battery and a 1.5GHz processor!
Someone else recommended the HTC Desire Z and Xperia Pro. Any experience with these?

[Q] Help needed for unlocked STOCK T-Mobile HTC Amaze

Hey everyone, I've searched thru the forum looking to see if someone had the same issues I did, and the stellar assistance that was given to others with various problems, I'm hoping that I can get the same (haven't seen anyone with my particular issues yet).
As mentioned in the title, I'm using a stock T-Mobile Amaze, unlocked and I'm using it in Barbados. A few weeks ago, a notification popped up on my phone.

Naturally, I was curious to see what this update was, but after ensuring that everything that was required for the update was in place, I see this...
...which I'm sure means there's some error in installing the update. The phone freezes, and I can't get out of this without doing a battery pull a la blackberry. This is issue 1.
Issue 2 is that a lot of my menus have wrong names, e.g. the 1 for Wireless connections says "Turn It On"
and even the options within the menus are wrong, e.g. In the display menu, to set the screen brightness, that option is entitled "Set A PIN code to lock your UIM Card"
Further to these, often when I try to access many of my settings, the whole shebang crashes, and asks me about sending an error report. Til now, nothing has changed in that regard. Any assistance to these problems would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Your best bet is just to do a master reset on the phone. It should clear up all those issues.
tried it...didn't work (well, the menus still are screwed up, and the settings keep crashing when i try to access some of them, like the Sound menu.)

Have you tried locking your bootloader and flashing the stock firmware?
You already unlocked your bootloader, right?
Just flash a custom rom.
If you REALLY want to flash the 1.43 update then relock your bootloader and flash this: http://goo.gl/KvHzj
Rename it to PH85IMG.zip and store it on the root of your sdcard.
It will update everything.
Then unlock your bootloader again, reroot and you'll be good.

Android constantly reseting user values & updating software constantly

Hi guys,
I am currently experiencing a frustrating issue with my android device and I am stumped at how to fix it.
The device in question is a Dynavin car stereo that runs the Android platform.
I have updated the ROMS and even roll backed to older versions but this issue persists. I am now using a totally modified ROM created by a user on here for my device.

My issue is, every 5 or 6 boot ups of my device all my settings seem to revert to default. Well not "all" but I will explain in further detail.
When my issue arises, google maps/navigation/mail will not load, it will crash and go back to the home screen.
Google PLAY will revert to Google Market, when I log into market, it will update all google programs.
Once updated, maps/navigation/mail all work perfectly fine.
My installed programs are unaffected to the extent that they do not need updating, however, all their settings which I adjust, revert back to normal, all the dialogue boxes return, its like as if I'm running the program for the first time again.
Does anyone know what the issue could be and how to fix it? It doesnt happen all the time with every boot up but it does happen quite frequently.
When there is no issue, the system works fine and requires no updates etc.
I feel it may be something to do with the ROM? Should files be moved to the memory card to preserve certain settings? But if I do that, how will Android know where to find these files?
Any ideas, support would be greatly appreciated!
Just a suggestion, if you are flashing ROM I asume you have root access. Titanium backup and link2sd will allow you to freeze market updater (system apk) and this should prevent you from receiving market updates.

mm, dont think the device has root access.
It can be flashed by just inserting a updated ROM on a memory card which picks it up on boot up.
I may try and install something for root access and try what you have mentioned.
