Issues with Market Please Help! - HTC Aria Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm running latest CM 6.1 and the Market seems to Force Close repeatedly on me. I reflashed and did hard reset but it keeps happening. I may add that I flashed the google apps package thats avaialble on the thread and thats when the problem started. It DOES NOT happen on Liberated ROM FR008 of which I Nandroid back and forth to after doing the proper cache wipes of course. Any help is much appreciated.

I copied this post (of mine) from the CM6.1.1 thread in the development forum.
=============
Not sure which package you installed, but when I recently installed CM on a friend's phone, I had the same issue. I resolved it by installing the Oct gapps zip, then installing the smaller Dec gapps zip over the top.
1st file:
http://android.d3xt3r01.tk/cyanogen/gapps/gapps-mdpi-20101020-signed.zip
2nd file:
http://www.multiupload.com/4W93YOY4UT
================
So in other words, prep your phone as always before flashing a new ROM (nandroid/cache/etc.), flash the CM zip, then flash the Oct gapps file and then flash the smaller Dec gapps file after that.

Ill try that. Thanks! I dunno if the answer to this is elsewhere but you helped out big.

The December gapps package is only the updated market - so you need to install...

Mirror: gapps-mdpi-20101020-signed.zip

That is from the CM6.1 thread in the dev section. Flash this first, and then the gapps package from December ONLY if you want the updated market.

I went into Recovery, did dalvik wipe, and cache wipe. Installed the first gapps and things were fine. After I installed the December gapps I got the force close again. What am I doing wrong?
Sent from my Liberty using XDA App

Even though it's a pain, at this point I would wipe cache/dalvik and do a factory reset/data wipe, then go through those steps again (CM/gapps1/gapps2).
If you like, you can download from the market MyBackup Root to backup all of your apps and data. I would wait to restore that backup though until you make sure the Market is working again.

Are you getting an error when you attempt to flash gapps? If so, what's the output?
The steps aren't very detailed, download the zip, check the MD5 and flash it from recovery. Wipe data and cache, reboot.

i think i may have downloaded a different file thanks for the help. Ill try it again in a little bit.
How exactly did it fail? Flash CM9 from the patched CM7 recovery if already on CM7 or CM9 - Flash Gapps zip - Wipe Data - Wipe cache. It's that simple. Never had a flash fail for me unless the zip was broken or my battery was too low. Oh yeah... Make sure your battery is charged 50% +
I believe there is an updated gapps zip for alpha 4 specifically, so make sure you use that one instead of the old one that's already on your sd card from alpha 3. FYI gapps zip does not install google apps on your phone. You will still need to download apps like maps, earth, youtube, goggles, etc from the market.
Sorry if you know/tried all of that... OP was kind of vague...

Updating dragonzkiller's CM9 Mod for X2

I have Alpha 4 of dragonzkiller's CM9 mod for the X2 installed but I am confused on how to update it to Alpha 5 (and beyond). When I looked for the patched BSR the link posted by dragonzkiller is dead as well.
If I can get a hold of the patched BSR do I just follow the installation steps exactly as I did when I installed CM9 for the first time? Or are the steps different because it's an update?
For reference, here is where I was trying to get the patched BSR from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21342515&postcount=1
It should be exactly the same as how you did it the first time. Get into BSR (when you get it) and wipe data/factory reset. Then wipe cache. Then go into advanced and wipe dalvik cache. Then flash the CM9 update zip file then the gapps file. Before you do all that, it would be a good idea to back up all your apps with Titanium Backup. Maybe even do a nandroid backup of your current rom in case something goes wrong, saving you from doing an SBF.
In the future, I would just keep all the necessary files, like the patched BSR, on your SD card for future flashing. Good luck
The link worked for me from my phone. When downloaded locate file using your browser of choice and install apk.

Update: Nevermind, it was just taking longer than usual to boot. I've got the initial Droid setup screen showing right now. :victory:

[Q] Gapps already installed without flashing. How?

I was recently trying a few different ROMs. Each time, going back to CWM Recovery and factory resetting, wiping the cache, wiping the dalvik cache and then flashing the ROM and gapps before booting which seemed to work okay, however, I noticed the last few ROMs I flashed have all had the google apps preinstalled, without me flashing the google apps package.
I thought this may have been due to me restoring my google account on first boot, however, even without this, the play store, google +, and the official google search app, among others, are still present in a fresh flash. As far as I know, these ROMs (cyanogen mod, pacman, aokp) should definitely not include the google apps pre-installed.
Any ideas as to why they're showing up without me having flashed them?
The ROMs probably have them included, check the ROM's zip and see for yourself.

Thanks for your reply! Could you please explain to me where to look in the ROM's zip to see if they have gapps included?
I've tried the latest stable builds of CM, AOKP and PA and they all seem to be pre-installed with gapps which makes me think there's something else going on since I know that last time I flashed CM I forgot gapps and there was no Play Store or anything.
If those are official builds of cm, aokp etc. Then they for sure do not have gapps preinstalled.
My best guess is your wiping isn't working as it is supposed to and these aren't clean flashes.
Open up gapps.zip and your ROM.zip if you want to check and compare if any gapps are preinstalled but I doubt it (look in the system/app folders)

Bingo! Just as I suspected, the system/app/ folder doesn't have any gapps apk's so I think you're right - these don't seem to be clean flashes. Any idea as to why my factory resets aren't working? I've tried factory resetting multiple times and updating CWM recovery but that doesn't seem to have done anything.
Pull the recovery log after wipes to check, should be advanced settings. Some recoveries are made poorly
Also be sure to wipe everything possible (cache and dalvik separately as well)
You can create a simple wipe/format script also if you wish that will do the wiping for you, this can help ensure cleanliness. If you chack your phones forum someone may have done this already (search superwipe)
If your phone supports fastboot this is one of the cleanest wipes possible and would recommend this too.

The internal SD card of the i777 can be formatted via ADB console in windows, or using exfat-utils in ubuntu

NOTES:
GApps: The size of full Gapps packages crowds /system, preventing the use of other /system based units (art, xposed, etc). Micro Gapps + google play installation of desired addons is a more efficient approach considering the resources available.

SURVIVAL: Go to super SU settings and install backup script. Root will survive updates. As for gapps, most installs include backup scripts. You don't need to re-flash them.
in system/addon.d, you should have a 99-supersu.sh, and 70-gapps.sh backup scripts, which survive the Rom update.
The script backs up beforehand and will restore after the flash.
From the backup script..
#!/sbin/sh
#
# /system/addon.d/99-supersu.sh (root:root 755)
# During an upgrade, this script backs up SuperSU-related files,
# /system is formatted and reinstalled, then the files are restored.

[Q] Going from CleanRom 3.5 to CM 11 Nightlies

Hi, everyone.
I haven't updated my GN2 for a long time.
I just checked my phone, and it currently sports CleanRom 3.5, which is 4.1.2 with VRAMC3.
I gleaned from some FAQS and posts that I do not want the 4.3 OTA update since there's no way to unlock it yet.
Is there a step that I should go through first before flashing CM 11? Or can I just follow the instruction there.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
INSTRUCTIONS
First time installing CyanogenMod 11.0 to your Galaxy Note 2 I605, or coming from another ROM:
- Read known issues ans FAQs
- Flash the latest official ClockworkMod-Recovery
- Copy GApps and CM11.0 ZIPs to your SDCard
- Boot into Recovery
- Flash CM11.0 zip from SDCard
- Flash GApps zip from SDCard
- DO A DATA WIPE / FACTORY RESET (otherwise your device will be stuck at boot)
- Reboot
- Don't restore system data using Titanium Backup!
- Restoring Apps + Data might cause problems and is not recommended, avoid it if possible!
-------------------------------------------------------
Also, according to the instruction, Titanium Backup is not recommended. Is there an alternative that works well with CM 11?
Maybe Mybackup Pro?
I'd appreciate your suggestions and tips.
Thanks.

A few notes that might help:
1. You can use TWRP instead of ClockworkMod if you want, just make sure your using latest version.
2. just do not forget the data wipe / factory reset. (TWRP wipes data with factory reset)
3. I use Titanium Backup and it works fine. I will explain the warning a bit for you. First of all it's never a good idea to restore system apps period, especially from another rom. Restoring user apps works fine if your backups are already 4.3/4.4, I restore my apps every time i do a clean install of CM11 and it works fine. However you are coming from older rom, so what I recommend is to only restore apps you absolutely need the data from, and test them. if they crash just uninstall and re-install from play store, problem solved.
