I have been wanting to play with the new vector Google Maps and 3D city renderings since I saw these things being demoed last month by Andy Rubin.
Now I can get these GMaps 5.0 features working on my NC (as well as my HTC Sapphire) as a result of the download from the post below. Yay!

how do you use this
You can install it through adb by
adb install "apk name" without the quotes.
I installed it, but there are no 3d buildings... I can do the 3d scrolling but where are the buildings? XD
Seems to work just fine... 3D buildings are showing up in San Francisco.
Two finger drag up/down works fine, but rotation does not work. Is this a limitation of the touch panel or some software fine tuning that still needs to be done?

Just keep zooming in until you see them.
How is this different from the 5.0.0.5014 download from the market?

The market version checks the hardware and disables the "advanced features" (read: vector-related and "tilt-3D" code) for any device not on the approved hardware list:

The OP is about a "modified" version of Maps which skips the hardware check.

Yes, the rotation functions are not working properly ... I had noticed that, too.
My not-so-educated guess is that this is a software issue. For instance, the kernel hackers in the Development section seem to think that there is no reason that only two touch points can be registered by NC hardware.
Anyway, personally, I am excited not to see the stupid tiles being loaded on every zoom. ... And the buildings are cool to show off on the huge 7" screen ... for the first 3 minutes, that is.

Uninstall your previous version of Maps or whatever version you have now. They conflict.

No, sorry but everything is ok : I fogot to install the Street View app from Market.
Now all is fine, Maps is very nice on the NC

Anybody ever figure out rotation? Using Dotty from the market, it's clear that the NC digitzer is plenty capable of distinguishing two points rotating past each axis (no Nexus One weirdness).

the new update is not getting installed in my mini. is anybody facing same error?
I had to search for it in the market, and install it manually (didn't automatically show as an update) but it seems to be working.
[edit] 3d maps *DO* work (Go to New York, and zoom in) - the problem is that we can't perform the gesture to change the map angle, so we're stuck with a top-down view, but they're definitely 3d

Downloaded perfectly for me mate, and yes its meant to have 3D maps, but its not showing on mine either..
in the video of gmaps 5.0 they use gestures with teo fingers to "switch" into 3D... but we lack multitouch...

i have 2.1 on my mini pro and got the update.
unfortunately i havent been able to get the tilting nor the compass mode on the fone if anyone manage to get these to work, let us know.
It is still a great update though - vector / offline cache / 3d.
oh, and you don't need to uninstall the previous version to get the update to ggle maps 5.0

that's only for 2 fingered rotation. obviously minipro is not supported because stock MT is disabled. still shhould be able to use the compass mode right???

For a great legal alternative, try downloading the wolfram alpha app. It's fantastic and can do all sorts of amazing plots and such. Probably not EVERYTHING a TI calc could do, but you'd be surprised.

I know you found a workaround, but the issue is the soft keys on the bottom of the screen - they offset the synchronization between the app and the touch screen, for some reason. If you hide the soft key bar, everything is properly aligned again.

I don't really now how I'm supposed to unlock this without doing anything dirty.
I think it's not something that could be solved through market enabler, as friends with the same carrier as I don't face this problem.

Apps will be filtered depending on your handset. Certain apps are for certain handsets only (E.g. Trackball alert for the Nexus one). You can't see games like Riptide as they're meant for tegra2 devices. The easiest way to view them is to download chainfire 3d and choose the 'Fix market' option, it'll then let you view all tegra2 based apps on the market.

I tried market enabler, this has nothing to do with region it seems.
Started it today and its really amazing for the NOOK since it requires a big screen to be playable in my opinion.
Great graphics and really interesting.

Go into the app "spare parts" and un-check compatibility mode.
May need a reboot, then you should be in full screen.
I don't have this game, but most frequently this is the issue when an app plays on a small portion of the screen.

Extra data was around 200mb and the screen is full.

HD means whatever you want it to mean... The original android phone (G1) was 320x480 so modern phones (800x480) are very "HD" in comparison. The NC just happens to be even higher definition (1024x600).

I would think the better question is, when compatibility is turned off and it works in full screen, does it look like it's scaled to fit? Or does it actually look proper high resolution?
When I say "scaled to fit" I mean like how PvZ/Peggle from Amazon are obvious scaled to fit and not full high resolution.

even when you fully zoom inside the game, graphics are great without any distortion.

The games that I've had to disable compatibility mode for to get full screen haven't appeared to be scaled. They look like native 1024x600. Wave Blazer comes to mind.
I can't seem to get this to work on my CM7 NC. I purchased it with the $1 india method, and bought it for the droid X, but after it downloads the data, plays the gameloft intro video, shows the disclaimer, it crashes to launcher with no message.
Any ideas? how did you all buy the game? which device did you buy it for?

Downloaded "regular" (not HD) settlers... couldn't get full screen, regardless of compatibility mode. Downloaded HD settlers, got full screen, was able to download data, again, regardless of compatibility mode.
Game plays great, i have a feeling that once I sit down and get a chance to play it, its gonna be addicting!

Changing DPI didn't do anything to get the on screen controls.

Installation instructions:
1) Download .APK file, install the game
2) Download Performance SD Card Files (or via WiFi if you device is supported)
3) Place SD Card Files in sdcard/Android/data
4) Play

I am also having the same problem with cm9 being flashed on my LTE note. The six axis app isn't working with it either and it works fine with gta3. Anyone find a fix yet?
Maybe its not ics compatible. I would have no problem buying but Google play is showing its not compatible but I just assumed it was my 213 dpi. Changing dpi didn't work for me as well.

I downloaded it a "different" way too...simply because with a 1.2gb extra download, there's no way I would be able to get a refund within 15 mins!

Ya I got it off a torrent because I couldn't download it from play store. I tried turning off six axis ime and no difference. Why would android be seeing it as a controller is connected. Maybe there is different apks?

I have six axis n64oid nes.emu snes9x and gameboid ill try clearing all caches. My bt is always off.

Yeah hopefully that'll work...I just cleared all my caches so it may not have been sixaxis that was causing issues.
I went into cwm cleared cache and dalvik cache still nothing. I really don't have anything on here to conflict with it. Maybe u just got lucky plus ur on gb and international so Idk.

What r you on
I don't know about CM9 but other ICS ROMs are working fine on different phones. So I believe ICS is not the case as a lot of people (in different forums) think.
I have the same issue on the international Galaxy Note, on Galaxy S Plus, but not on Galaxy S (I9000). None of the phones have anything To conflict with it. No Sixaxis, no other emulators and no Bluetooth. And I've tried with fresh new stock ROMs aswell. I guess different phones were not fully optimized by Rockstar.
