Android 2.4 - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hope springs eternal. Android 2.4 announced for the summer, my original post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=910057

I think it is more importand now to get 2.3 works, If that works, Then we will see in the summer if there is still some dev left who want to do a 2.4 rom. And to see if it runs on the Hero. It was said 2.3 woudnt run, but it did, and well mostly will it support MPDI. wich I think it wont.

Ignoring the fact we haven't got 2.3 fully working on the Hero, and the fact the "announcement" you link to isn't an announcement at all it's rumor, this is a dev forum.

rumor: RaduG almost finished his 2.4 alpha rom
sorry

BTW, am I wrong or we still don't have a Froyo ROM with Sense and Camera working?
Why is camera harder to make work if sense is cooked?

Guys here you go for android 2.4 nexus one system dump which I posted couple of days ago. Actually 2.4 has been renamed to 2.3.3
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=967779

I understand the camera doesn't work as the driver is not working, and possibly linked to the 2.2 Sense being from another HTC device

Is not possible to use HTC Sense with stock Android camera drivers, with the Android stock app?

I thinkk cyano will give us something good.
I tryed CM7 v8 and it's really impressive.
Coming from stock 2.1 to 2.3.3 of CM7 it's a big jump.
even if it is still in beta and not finished is faster than stock 2.1 and more usable (in terms of HCI usability).
Unfortunately i had problems with OpenGL games (Restaurant Story) and with GPS (no fix after 10 minutes), so i came back to stock for now...

Try Elelinux-7.0.0-RC1-Hero-v1.1.1 works ok with me. GPS is working fine.

2 different problem vs 1.5modaco and all 2.1

HI ALL,
On modaco 3.2 the GPS is not working at least for google map but meteo is ok?!
And for All 2.1 ROMS we have the green effects problem on recording video and photos?!
And also, not working playback videos for some of them!!
Plz guyz tell me i m not crazy lol cause i dont find any solution and I dont know now which rom is definitively really stable and full working.
mcr3.1 is stable and everything that is in there works. same goes for 3.2, but it lacks a few things since it is an operator tailored rom (namely there would be the "2g only" switch in settings, not sure about others). gps is working fine in both, if you have problems reflash your radio.
there is no bugfree 2.1 rom yet, as we are still waiting for the official release from htc.
if i say that this is the wrong category i will get bashed, so i'm not gonna say it. just gonna point out to you that there is a q&a subforum, which might be the better place for these types of posts.
Going from a 2.1 ROM to a 1.5 ROM appears to break GPS in some cases.
This can be fixed by reflashing the radio.

[Q] difference between 2.2.1 and 2.2?

Maybe I overlooked it but I couldn't figure it out.... Can someone give me an idea on what the difference is? Is it just for the I9000 and was ported to the Vibrant or is there some actual "improvement" in the source code or something? Just trying to better understand...
Thank you.
Supposedly some speed enhancements but except in the case of the port from the GS4G port all of the i9000 ROMS loose Wifi Calling which is a deal breaker for me. I've really dug around 2.2.1 and 2.3+ and really don't see a difference than Froyo other than cosmetic. Maybe when we get something specifically for our devices we will see a difference. Unless you just want to be on the newest of the new I would stick to 2.2. ROMS based off of KB5 for now.
That's all opinion, but hope it helps.

Thats more or less my findings too. And I always revert to Trigger. I was not letting go of his 2.7.2 but then this KB5 Modem came out and Trig released the 3.0 and I had to try..... Right now I'm on it, and IT IS F#$ING AMAZING! Everytime I try a 2.2.1 my phone either won't recive data(no 3g or H) or will become sluggish...... Now I'm rambling.... LOL.... Oh well, Thanks for your answer fam.
Below are the factual differences between 2.2 and 2.21/2.22
The difference between the Asian and European versions has more to do with how well they align with the USA version in platform design and how they will port over
Android 2.2 had two revisions.
Android 2.2.1 was the first revision released. Android 2.2.1 included some improvements and bug fixes. Improvements were mainly on Gmail application and Exchange Active Sync. It also received an update to Twitter and refreshed weather widget. Android 2.2.2 was released in June 2010. It was released mainly to address the email bug that randomly forward the text messages in the inbox. The email bug randomly select a recipient from the contact list and forward a random message in the inbox on its own. This bug was fixed with the Android 2.2.2 update.

Anyone have luck with GPS and 2.3.* roms?

I am currently running the latest "stable" Cyanogen ROM with Eugeans kernel. I have tried every kernel, and many different GPS setting and GPS fix's.
Sometimes it works, sometimes it don't..
Reboot soemtimes fix's it, sometimes it don't...
I just want a stable ROM with working (like always works) GPS. If i hve to go back to 2.2.1 i will, but i would like to find a 2.3.* ROM.
Also is it true that there are different hardware configurations for the Vibrant (T-mobile US)
Thank you for your time
I think its just gonna be flaky with any 2.3.X rom until the proper source codes are released....I've tried almost every 2.3 rom available for the vibrant and its all the same.....but I do love miui.
If you truely want a stable GPS i think your gonna have to go 2.2.

I love Cyanogen and all the goodness that comes from the open Android community, but if i am to honest with myself GPS is one of the most important aspects of owning a smartphone.
I actually did not even own a cellphone before i bought the G1, and the final spec that put me in "Buyer" more was GPS.
So yea, time to Odin back to stock.
I'm running DarkyRom 10.2.2 its 2.3.4 JVQ. Using the bullet kernel I get a 20' location but it takes quite awhile 10 min for the initial lock then is good after that.
2.2 roms lock in seconds. I was lucky and always had a good gps.
Eugene's newest kernel is crazy fast and accurate. DO NOT APPLY ANY FIXES ON TOP OF HIS WORK. And it will work. First boot up gps test and let it run for 10 mins. Then reboot and test on a a maps program I get 16 ft in under 30 secs and 10 within a min ..... all indoors.

[Q] No GPS UPON INSTALLING ICS 4.0 ON SAMSUNG VIBRANT 2.1 eclair

Have no GPS after installing ICS 4.0 on samsung vibrant 2.1 ...GPS gives wrong location. Had excellent GPS location on samsung 2.1 eclair....HOPE SOMEBODY CAN HELP TO RESTORE GPS ON VIBRANT WITH ICS 4.0 .....THANKS
Which ROM are u on ?
Need to know the ROM you're using (mainly the kernel), but in the mean time check this thread out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1550327
You really only need yag2 from that, but I think the ultimate cleaning script is pretty handy if you ever want to flash another kernel.
Flash that yag2 fix, and do a GPS Test right after your phone boots and see what happens.
On a sidenote: the GPS performance (in my experience) with ICS on the Vibrant is god-awful, and that's saying a lot considering the infamy of the GPS with this phone. It can be great after you first boot, but locks can take a minute or 2 at times after your phone has been idle/asleep for a decent amount of time. If you're big into using your GPS I wouldn't really consider ICS as a daily driver. Use a 2.2 ROM with the Holo launcher; ICS looks with a nice stable base.
Install Chimera 1.1 from www.team-passion.com . Its the newest version they have to offer, its actually a blend between ics and cm9 i believe( could be wrong). It looks exactly like ICS to me and it has working GPS and working 911.
last person is correct. chimera v1.1 with newest 1.3 kernel has working gps after deep sleep and vice versa. the best my gps has been since stock froyo... at least 5 bird lock everytime in under a minute.

[Q] Any ROMs?

Hello, I recently found a TP2 taking care of my dust and I was wondering if there are any Android ROMs for the phone. I know there are some, but I wanna know what's the ROM with the newest version of Android.
Thanks.

battery indicator is kinda broken and also my phone used to overheat.... alot. there's also the froyo build (2.2 version), which might be more stable.
you have to find out for yourself which one works the best.

Why do you say the wifi doesn't work? I've been using Android on my Rhodium since June 2012 and I don't have problems with wifi--bluetooth, yes, but not wifi.
What makes you say it doesn't work? Is it not showing any wireless networks?
what version of the rhodium do you have? RHOD100? RHOD400? I have a RHOD400, and the devs are also using RHOD400's. They don't guarantee complete functionality on non-RHOD400's (that's actually mentioned somewhat by wizardknight at the end of post #1 of the GBX0* thread that wizardknight linked above
Hello, I too am having lots of troubles with finding a ROM that will work on my RHOD300. I started the whole install with a GBX_3.4.35_Full, then the GBX_3.4.26.13_FULL then the OMGB 1.2.3 May 4 and finally the OMGB Jan 16, and all of them have given me a non-working wi-fi. When I enable the bluetooth it actually turns on ok.
I've been using my HTC TP2 for 4 years as a WinMO phone and finally decided that I'd give this Android thing a try. The wi-fi has been working for me all along.
When I first installed the GBX it was giving me Wi-Fi error (viewing in Wireless & network settings). After I switched to the OMGB ROM I'm now getting a Wi-Fi turning on... and the option is grayed out.
I've been searching around and reading through these forums and I'm trying to find solutions, but nothing seems to work. The wifi-nvram-generic.txt file option I wish I could try but unfortunately I don't know the phones mac address without booting back into a WinMo phone.
I would be grateful if somebody could help me sort this out as I really do need to have wifi on my phone, otherwise my smart phone isn't so smart after all...
I've taken my RHOD100 out of the dust, and fired it up to NAND flash it with te 2.3.7 xda ROM. I used the GBX0*+3.4.26.13 Full for my device. Although it's not very snappy, it's acceptable after recalibrating the touch screen. Don't expect miracles. Wifi is working fine. Haven't tested BT yet.
The 3.4.35 version did boot a bit, but didn't get past the bootscreen, which seemed to be in an unending loop.
I doubt the GPS is working.. GPS test didn't get a fix in 15 minutes and did not see any satelites. Also no support for front camera... but hey.. who cares
