Question for the Keyboard and Bounty - Gen8, Gen9, Gen10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Samsung with the Gtab recognized the french Keyboard
but Archos NO
is it possible to see and extract the keyboard mapping ti the Gtab (i have this) and intall on Archos (i have all) ?
Thanks
If it is possible or if you have anoter solution ,with no SDE - Just ADB or APK
the Bounty will be : 50 € (not 50$)

I think without root/sde this will be impossible because the system files of the standard android version from archos are read only and there is no way to change this - they are saved in a non-writeable, signed containerfile...

Okay, another point in the done this/been there list:
change the qwerty.kl and the gpio-keys.kl in /system/usr/keylayout/ according to your hardware-layout.
Example:
Code:
From: key 21 Y
To: key 21 Z
Confirmed to work with a Apple-USB-Keyboard - changed succesfully from qwerty to qwertz, on-screen-keyboard stayed the same an works properly.
If this meets the requirements for the bounty - please donate it to $aur0n for his great work
Edit: the /system/ directory is read only on the standard android from archos - this is not changeable.

Hi, reviving this topic: Is there any way to use this method to add deadkeys to a standard US keyboard?
ie: press ' followed by e and get a é
I'm looking for a fast way to input special caracters like this on android for months and nothing do the trick.
Thank you all.

[SOLVED] CyanogenMod6-v3.1: No Home/Back/Menu

Hello,
I have a Mini Pro and succesfully installed CyanogenMod6-v3.1.
Then I put qwerty.kl form german.zip via RootExplorer to /system/usr/keylayout.
Since then I do not have these three buttons: menu, home, back, on/off.
They are completly dead.
So I thought to replace qwerty.kl with the original one found in update.zip.
But this does not work either...
Do you have an Idea?
Thank you
Tobias
(I have less than 10 posts, so I have to post here, sorry)
EDIT: I did a re-flash via xrecovery and now it works again.
But how can I change to the german keyboard layout?
Keyboard
Sorry that i write here, but i am not able to write in the right discussion
the german keyboard works so far fine, but the number "3" is not on the right place.
In the german keyboard the three is over the y and not over the z ( by pressing the green quader.
the problem is in this file qwerty.kcm in the last line y3 yy it must changed to z 3 zz i think
The second :
the symbol button just aktivate the numbers over the character and not the symbols or Ä,Ü,Ö.
thanks for your powerful work
I do not see that these problems are related.
It would be better to start a new thread for you...
How can I install the german keyboard layout?
Thank you
go to the 1st page of the cyanogen mod download german keyboard and instal it with recovery tool
the number 3 is above the y and not above the z. This bug will be fixed later
Thank you.
I mark this as solved as the bug with number 3 is already known.
open qwerty.kl with root explorer (with write permissions) and a text editor. You will be able to change evry single key.
bye

I'm also interest in your question: I want to use a Spanish Keyboard with a WME ROM because special characters ?&%/().....doesn't work (Like you).
I had this problem in the past and solved it with a great program called AE Software AEKMap (ask me if interested)
But I'm sure that cockers can help us because if I use a Spamish ROM, the Spanish keyboard works perfectly, so I'm sure that there must be a key Reg to change it.
BR.
THX
...but I must to use original ROM, becouse do not exist ROM in me language.
One way for reason this problem (IMHO).
User can define national letters in WM device via file sym.txt or sym0409.txt located in Windows folder. This files is simply txt files an user can change it for instance via Notepad. Unfortunatelly this letter is activated via SYM key on HW keyboard of mobile device. In USB host mode user use classic PC full size keyboard without SYM key.
Can some cocker help us?

[Q] Keyboard apps for mini pro supporting the physical keyboard...

Hi!
I have a xperia x10 mini pro and I use it in Serbia. Some of my contacts which the timescape grabbed from facebook are in cyrillic and I can't access them except if I change the language to Russian, which is cyrillic, and then I can look them up, but I don't know the russian keyboard layout so it's a problem. And there is no support for Serbien cyrillic (only serbian latin) in the mini pro. Now, I downloaded some softkeyboard (touchscreen) apps, but I don't wanna use the touchscreen.
So, is there any app that lets me use the physical keyboard for typing? An app that has serbian cyrillic which I then can use via the physical keyboard?
I hope I have beeen clear enough.
Thank you!!
Is there not a latin based Serbian keyboard layout?

Of course there is - I said it.
But I need a cyrillic one. And there is none. So I need a keyboard-app that has it. But I don't wanna use the touchscreen-keyboard, I want an app that supports the physical keyboard... so I can type on the physical keyboard and get cyrillic... is there such an app?
Or is there a language pack to download for the mini pro which has serbian cyrillic?
You could try to adapt the cyrillic.xml layout in the system/usr/keyboard-config/layouts folder and see if that suits your needs.

And how do I do that?
I have never accessed the phone system folders...
Well, if you have rooted your phone, use root explorer to find that file and copy it to your sd card. Then transfer it to your computer and modify the file with xml editor. You can't correct it on the phone since it doesn't have the serbian cyrillic characters once you have made your modifications, transfer the file back to sd card, open root explorer, mount system as -rw and move the modified xml file to layouts. Then change the file's permissions so they are the same as the others. Mount szstem as -ro and reboot. That way serbian cyrillic will come up when you choose to write in russian language.
I suppose I can modify the file for you tomorrow if you don't mind waiting.
No I don't mind...
But I haven't rooted my phone (is that what we over here call "flash"?), I use it as I got it from the store...
Sort of, you root a phone, then flash stuff on. Rooting can be easy with superoneclick or flash tool. Of course it will void your warranty. But with new rooting tools, you can also unroot your phone. After rooting always install xrecovery so you can make a complete backup of the phone before changing things. In the end it is your decision if you want to root your phone or not.
Now you lost me...
HOW can I root my phone?
And what good is it for me to root it?
You can root and install xrecovery with mikevhl's "one klick root+xrec" application from this topic
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=913136&highlight=root
With root you can uninstall system and other unwanted applications you normally can't, you can update firmware without waiting for it to be released for your country, you can change system files (like the keyboard layout) and install modified system applications and use custom roms, also running on android 2.2, 2.3, and get multitouch when dev have it sorted out.
But again, it is your own decision. Rooting has benefits, but don't do it if you need the warranty or the phone needs to stay unchanged (like if it is a company phone).
You will always find help with software problems here on xda, but for hardware issues you need the repair service.
And now I have to say good night, I have an early morning ahead of me.
If you're still interested in getting Serbian cyrillic letter on hw keyboard, I've modified the cyrillic.xml file. Copy this file to your SD card.
Open Root Explorer and mount system as -rw. Rename the cyrillic.xml you have in the system\usr\keyboard-config\layouts folder to something like cyrillicorig.xml. Copy the modified cyrillic.xml to this folder and give it the same permissions (rw-r--r--). Reboot. You will then have Serbian cyrillic letters for every language that is set to use cyrillic (ex. Bulgarian, Russian).
Letters are positioned based on the qwertz layout (let me know if any keys need to be repositioned):
Q љ Љ њ Њ
W ч Ч ћ Ћ
E е Е
R р Р 1
T т Т 2
Z з З 3
U у У *
I и И +

B б Б 8

[Q] To advanced CM6-latest users with keyboard-layout other than qwerty

Hi there,
how did you change your keyboard layout? As there are so much methods to change it, how did you do it? I am wondering if my method is correct:
1) install CM6-latest (miniCM version) with all hotfixes
- Use the files from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=982341
2) install CM7-ActivateSEKeyboard.zip
3) CM7-KeyboardUpdate.zip
4) german_underscore.zip
5) qwertz.zip
6) blacktheme.zip
7) wipe cache
8) reboot
9) set language again to german everywhere where it is possible
10) reboot second time
It seems everything works but:
- under certain circumstances sym menu freezes
- using andoid onscreen keyboard the hardware-keyboard is still qwerty
Either it's a bug to be fixed or I was doing something wrong. So I ask you:
- Did you recognize that, too and live with that?
- Or did you change your keyboard layout in another way and that works perfect and may you so helpful to tell me and others having my problem how!?
Thanks, guys.
If you want a QWERTZ keyboard, just change with root explorer's editor in system/usr/keyboard-config/keyprint.xml
THIS:
<script-name="latin" keylayout="qwerty-en"/>
TO
<script-name="latin" keylayout="qwertz"/>
Then save and reboot.
Temes
so if i get this right for azerty (got a dutch phone) i do
<script-name="latin" keylayout="qwerty-en"/>

[GUIDE] Unicode fonts on TouchPad for Vietnamese languages

Hello everyone. I'm a new TouchPad owner here, and a new member of precentral as well Having the TouchPad so far has been a great exerience, but I was a little ticked off that I could not read anything in Vietnamese when I come across websites such as yahoo.vn or vnexpress.net. Even youtube search in Vietnamese do not appear correctly, all I see is square box So I begin to dig around the net and found that HP decide to get rid of Unicode in all their fonts! Luckily I found this Vietnamese website who was very informative on finding how to add Unicode fonts to the TouchPad but was missing key fonts here and there, and applications wasn't working correctly without "stock" fonts. So without further adieu, here are the instructions to adding unicode fonts to your TouchPad! I believe these will only work for non-character asian sites, beside chinese.
1. Make sure your TouchPad has enough battery life, greater than 50%. Plug your TP into your computer or laptop, and set to USB mode.
2. Download this Unicode Fonts, and extract it as is to your TP drive on the computer. Note: Again extract as is directly to the HP TouchPad drive in your computer, not any other folder.
3. Disconnect USB mode by safely remove hardware, but leave the wire still connected. Turn on Developer Mode on your TP, and open WeOSQuickInstall.jar. You should know how to do this already, if not read up on it before proceeding!
4. Click on Tools, then Linux Commandline. Copy this command without quotes "mount -o remount,rw /" and paste to the window that appeared after you click on Linux Commandline, then hit enter on your laptop or pc. Do not do CTRL+V for paste as it will not work, you have to physically right click and select paste!
5. Copy this command without quotes "cp media/internal/HPbackupunicodefonts/*.* usr/share/fonts", and hit enter on your laptop or pc. Again, do not do CTRL+V, as I know a lot of people would love to do just that. Wait a few seconds until it finish and you see two lines displaying "[email protected]" Then you're done.
6. Remove the usb cord from your TP, clear cache out from your browser on your TouchPad (you should know how to do this already too, if not search here or google ) Reboot your TP completely, not luna restart, but complete restart it.
7. Enjoy
Mod please make this a sticky as I think it's necessary because this took me quite a few days of trial and error to find out what fonts were needed, and to have all games/apps to work! If anyone can, please spread this news out to your fellow friends and websites but please do not take sole credit for it.
Thanks all!
Xterminater
OP, did you get it from this website? http://www.tinhte.vn/hoi-dap-chia-s...ng-viet-cho-webos-3-0-2-updated-again-819453/
I used this, but there are some rare instances where it does not display correctly, it might have to with the type of input for vietnamese characters. Is yours the same as this or different?
Thanks OP, I am sure your post will be useful for other languages as well.
Since the instructions above is slightly incomplete here are a few pointers if you are lost.
1. developer's mode:
type webos20090606 on your touchpad's main screen's justtype search bar
turn on developer's mode, dont need to enter a password. When complete, restart your touchpad by holding power and main button
2. download webosquickinstall from here and run it from your PC. This will allow you to run command line from your PC when your touchpad is attached to the usb port in dev mode.
http://forums.precentral.net/canuck-coding/274461-webos-quick-install-v4-0-a.html
3. after you install the unicode, restart your touchpad by holding power & main button or your fonts will be all messed up in your browser.
I was successfully able to install this without any issues as of yet.
#5 in your instruction is wrong. it should be like this:
cp media/internal/*.ttf usr/share/fonts
#3 (after step 3, user need to use Novaterm in order to login as root in the shell).
thanks.

Why do you do media/internal/*.ttf if fonts aren't there? media/internal/FOLDER FONTS/*.* is right.
Plus, if you use webOS quick install, you have automatically root.
Best regards
Strange display for the keyboard
Thanks for the steps to install Unicode fonts. It works well before 3.0.4 update.
After the update one of the big key from the keyboard "A B C" changed to "A[]B[]C[]". When you pressed this key to change the character from "A B C" to "+ - =" there is space inserted with "[]" in between. Please kindly help me how to fix it. It's just the display of the keyboard changed from
"A B C" to "A[]B[]C[]"
or
"+[]-[]=[]"
I did re-add the fonts again and I even tried to run the WebOS Doctor to reset it, but the result is the same. Display some strange character for that key. Everything else works fine!
Any help to fix it would be highly appreciated. Thank you
So can anyone answer Willy's question regarding this issue post v3.0.4 update? I bought my father an HP Touchpad mainly to view Vietnamese websites (& YouTube, LOL) since he doesn't need tons of apps however, it's useless to him until he can view these sites. I'd like to load the Unicode instructions but not going to do so until this is resolved. Thanks!
Does anyone know where I could find these fonts? Megaupload is closed and there has been no mirrors posted anywhere for these fonts. Thanks.
Regards.
