Depends. Which theme? Link?

There's a couple theme porters available here on xda, or google. Or you can look into doing it manually, then you can grab what you want and mix and match. It sometimes takes a few tries, but its fun if you like that sort of thing. All you have to do is unzip, swap out the pngs you want, zip and and sign, make an update.zip and flash, or use something like Ninjamorph to stuff it back. Automates the zip, sign, replace.

The Theme that I was interested in coverting over to CM6.2 was the andro green theme originally found in the Hero forum, the link is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=783883

+1 for an answer to this, I'm in the same boat. Tried Theme Porter but I think I'm doing it wrong...

Basically what i ended up doing was just replacing all the appropriate images in the framework-res.apk

what program/app did you use to do this?

It be really easy to port that theme since its already on a same size mdpi device . Only thing that would be a little time consuming is if he made any changes to the xml's which isn't hard to do just takes a little time to sift through it and compile it to your framework based on the rom you are using.

I used dsixda's HTC Android Kitchen to decompile the ROM that I wanted to replace the images in the framework-res.apk. I definitely recommend learning how to use it because it will allow you to customize ROMs of your choice and allow u to add and remove apk's in the ROM. And then recompile it.

Not anywhere specifically, I learned by decompiling frameworks and reading tthrough the source xml's and asking and read up in theme threads and Appmanager. But if you have any question about something specific you can pm me

I can if you know how to integrate/add files to your framework-res.apk. It cannot be done with MetaMorph tho.
Is there a guide or something I can follow and achieve it? Or could u give instructions on how to?

Sure, there are several guides and HOWTOs on XDA (Chef Central, Desire Development...) on how to theme, repack, sign and everything. There are even several tools available that let you do all these steps in one swoop. I'm sorry but I can't guide you through all of that but if you have a will to do it, you will find a way through, of that I'm sure.

@BlaY0: How to apply this theme? It looks realy nice!
install like any rom!
why this not working with ur rom i install it in rom manager??
I don't think this theme is a ROM Manager flashable ZIP file...
Maybe we must use some theming app?

You have to decompile, edit and recompile classes.dex in services.jar. BTW it needs to be deodexed. It will be included in B 0.2.

Can you add one more modification in B 0.2, please?
I will like to see the new gingerbread style when you click menu button (white icons and text on black background).
Is this posible? I almost succeeded with some editing in framework-res.apk...
0.2
New version...
BlaY0,
Any chance to switch notifications itself to black background and white text? Curious why you didn't make it - hard to change or you just like white notifications?

[Q] [REQUEST]flashable .zip for framework-res.apk

Hey guys,
actually I am on a Stock Rom and am trying to modify the icons in framework-res.apk
I found some very nice parts in several custom Roms here in our Section as well as in others, i.e. Sony/LG and and...
My plan is to mix up the icons I like from different Roms and made it already but I can only apply framework-res.apk via ADB, to provide it to others here I would love to have a zip where only the framework-res.apk is placed in...is there someone who would provide this to me ?
For now my maingoal is to bring Battery in Percentage and some other small things to any stock Rom, even for people without root and with even less knowledge than me ;-)
So, what I'd need is a flashfile that only changes the modified Icons...anyone ? Would be sooooo kind
Uot kitchen can make it

[Q] What is VRTHEME??

I saw lots of theme which has this in their title. but I can't find any guide or tutorial about this. So, what is this? how could I use it? has it any benefit over usual "decompile/theme/recompile/replace"ing an apk?Is there any script to implement it like apktool?
Its the universal theme flasher created by Villain ROM.
As for all your other questions I'm not sure.

thanks,
correct me if I'm worng pls.
Universal theme flasher, is kind of template. and I should extract compiled PNGs and xmls from apk file and paste theme into that. and for editing theme, I need to paste and replace those files into the apk file and then decompile that apk.
then what should I do if I changed something in "values" folder? cause it just appears in decompiled apps and It can't be seen in a compiled app.

I think after compiling the apk, you should copy the "classes" and the other file *-) I can remember its name, and add them there.
Am not sure *-) I had this question too but I thought abt trying it first and if it doesnt work I wld ask. I have no time to try I have exams

classes.dex is for the smali that has been edited if there was any.
I assume that if the xmls were edited and they point to new PNG images/objects then the resources has been changed. I would say that in this case you would need to have an updated resources file for these adjustments? This could be pulled from your newly compiled .apk that you want to base your flashable theme off?
I am unsure if resources needs to be updated though for certain? I have flashed in the past new xmls and they worked fine, however these were not referencing any new sources or images...so my thoughts are that these mods I made didn't require this additional file?? I could be wrong. I really should read the thread about it here on XDA. I did a long time ago, but have come a long way since then.
I diverse. Try using it without new resources file and see what happens?
You may also like to looking into Morphing as well (very similar concept).

Android themes need a good guide

Hi I want to learn all about making themes for Android roms please point me in the right direction to find easy learning guides using windows 7 to theme on jellybean and ICS and gingerbread thanks
do you want to make cm7/cm9/10- themes or flashable themes? if yes, you have to dwcompile the apks and mod them how you want... i dont know more at the moment, im also searching a good tutorial (at the end i will probably find it out by trying^^).
If you wanna make flashable zips for gingerbread roms use uot kitchen,.its easy and makes fun, legends say it can also make cm7 themes but i couldnt create one till now... for uot you only have to extract two files out of your rom, systemui out of /system/app and frameworkres out of /system/framework
maybe start over with that

Hi thanks I want to make flashable themes for gingerbread what it uot kitchen and where can I learn how to use it
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=990829
that is the official thread with tutorial, its easy just type uot in google, you will find the site, click on "kitchen" and choose and customize your mods, then go to "upload files" (can do this first to save time) and choose "upload system apps", then upload em and click on "summary", if all mods are green click on "cook" and wait, you will get a code (you only need it if somethings not workin).
then you can download it after ~20-30 minutes from "pickup", you can also do that from your phone , then flash via cwm and enjoy

what do you mean building rom?? if you are building cm11.. there's no need.. it has native theming support..
and there are thousands of themes for cm in Playstore.. and with newer cm11 you can even make like.. your own theme by using parts of different themes.. so i don't see no point in wasting time themeing from source..
if you are talking about decompiling stuffs and theming.. then there are tons of guide to help you with that.. and decompiling frameworks and apps and theming is not called building.. it's called cooking or something like that..
Buddy, just decompile your systemui.apk but firstly install framework-res.apk, no need of sources in theming rom if you are making rom in @dsixda 's kitchen

uot doesnt work with mine.
There is no "Simple way" for theming.
U have to decompile it using Apktool
then go to drawable-ldpi and edit the things
stay away from .9pngs
and then recompile
