Hey guys, I just updated my Streak to 2.2 using the QDL Tools. I used PC Suite to backup my data before I made the transition to 2.2. But I'm unable to find a work around to restore that date. I've lost all contacts/media and what not. Anyone have any ideas?
Also if you have any tips/programs/updates I should get for my Streak, I'd appreciate it.

Your contacts will be stored on google once you sign in it should reinstall them did you not do a backup with dells backup/restore

Just open up the internet click on the box but leave your finger on the box and a pop up will apear asking u to change input device

I have heard that after the update you will loose all your data and apps, the new Backup and Restore from SE can give you a backup of contacts and data, but what about the applications?
I personally used Titanium Backup with root access on my 1.6, but now that the root wont be possible in 2.1 (so far) I am wondering which application for restoring my apps would be good?
any idea?

The first thing I'll be trying is THIS.
good tip, however, I still need to know how to backup all my apps without using root!! I think sonyericsson have been thinking about this, is not possible that everyone lost all their apps and have to reinstalled them one by one

Have you tried Astro as suggested on another thread? Considering you can root and unroot with an app I don't know why people are so afraid of doing it.
Im not afraid of rooting, Im afraid of rooting not working on 2.1 for some time. I Have not idea ...
I tried ASTRO and I think it works, it never asked for root and Im now backing up everything

Well at least we'll find out tomorrow.
Astro only restores the applications but not the data, so still not the proper solution :S
any other suggestion?
The current methods (X10Root, Androot) are not working with 2.1.
That is a fact.
I use a PC suite called 91 PC suite, look it up on google, its basically in Chinese, but language can be changed to English, it has an option of backing up apps as well, though it never asked for root, but I've used it after I've rooted my phone. nice piece of software, you guys should check it out

Does anyone have the .apk for nero.android.dellsync.apk file?. I backed it up with Titanium Backup Rooted, and it just did not backup correctly.(Corrupted) Now I'm looking to restore it so I can use the Desktop Dell Sync program.

No, thats the Dell Backup and Restore. The APK that Im looking for should enable me to sync with Dell Sync installed on my PC. Im running android 2.2 build 318.

This is just what I needed! The only other solution that I had was to Wipe my Streak and reinstall Froyo, but the file you posted was all I needed to be able to sync to Dell Mobile Sync on my PC.
I just installed the APK with Astro File manager.

I have just updated my x10 mini to the lastest version of Android.
I followed Sony Erricson's advice and used 'backup&restore' to save all my data before updating.
However when I restore my data everyone works except all my contacts. I really need these numbers as I don't have another copy of most of them.
After some googling it looks like im not the only one with this problem, im guessing backups made in 1.6 are not readable in 2.1 or something. Very anoying, you'd think that would have been tested...
So, I have been trying to downgrade my phone back to 1.6 so I can restore from there but am having problems.
I have tried two different guides using two different programs but both have just stopped in error while flashing. Flash tool said I should check settings for debugging and unknown sources but these are ok and it still stops.
Can anyone help me?
Or does anyone know a way of opening the backup file (a *.sbf file) so I can get my numbers out of it and put them back on my phone manually?

I am currently on stock 2.2 , I have cwm recovery, and when I try to update, after the Ron 2.3 rom is downloaded, the phone turns off to patch with recovery mode. The thing is, since I have cwm recovery. The phone just sits there, on it's clockwork mod recovery main menu. I need help to get pass this, maybe how to get back to stock recovery, or can anyone upload the stock official 2.3 rom so I can flash from cwm? Thank u for reading this.

Your contacts should be backed up with your google account so I wouldn't worry about that. For your apps, use titanium backup. Emails? The emails aren't actually on the device so you won't be losing anything, when you set up your account(s) again they will be there.

I have a vmware installed, I have all drivers installed for vmware, and whenever I plug in my phone to my computer, and hit, "connect to windows" in Vmware, nothing will ever pop up. I'm thinking that maybe windows isnt succefully responding with the mac. Is there a certain easy use program like Odin that can work on the Mac? if not, I will just get my laptop monitor fixed, or just put all the files into a flash drive, bring it to my office, and do it from there.

I was actually just talking about this in another thread but, to answer your question, I honestly been successful in getting my macbook to recognize the fascinate in download mode although I can mount the SD card and transfer files fine (and even ADB, on gingerbread at least). I was trying to use heimdall as opposed to running a odin in a VM though. I did a little poking around and it seems like a common issue with the galaxy S phones and macs. Never ended up finding a surefire way to make it work so I just use a windows machine when I need to bust out odin. Sorry I can't offer a solution, but if you have access to a windows machine it'll be much less of a headache.
Oh, and I haven't used titanium in a while, but yeah you just restore the backed up apps after flashing a rom. I believe the free version is limited in some ways and you can't do batch operations. Although I would try to start fairly fresh after the update, only restoring the apps with data that you can't afford to lose. Sometimes restoring data on system apps will cause issues, although if you're just going from stock 2.2 to 2.3 then you'll probably be ok restoring most things.

Just got my S4 yesterday and still figuring it all out. Got it rooted and installed scotts rom on it.
The problem I am having is with tb not successfully removing system apps...specifically polaris office. Tb doesnt give an error but when I reload the app it shows up again.
Anyone have any advice or experience for me? Thabks in advance

You should always make a backup of any/all system apps before modifying them. Why are you wanting to uninstall it?

Thanks for your reply but while I am new to the S4 I am by no means a novice to android or rooting. I am/was looking for advice particular to the phone itself and since I believe to have found the solution to my issue I will post it.
I had pulled the battery to restart previously and my guess is that with the rooting method I needed to reboot via the option in the rom to allow the startup and shutdown scripts to run properly. After doing this my issue went away.
That coupled with the version of ES file explorer also posted in this forum makes me a happy system editing camper
