How to prevent AutoKiller Memory Optimizer from killing SetCPU - Streak 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've gone thru a few threads without an answer. There doesnt seem to be a ignore list for AutoKiller. And SetCPU with Smartass governer is too dear to lose. Anyone have a solution? Also, how to see is SetCPU is indeed running and hasnt been killed? Sometimes, I run SetCPU and it says permission given and I take it that it was previously killed.

It doesn't have an exclusion or a way to to limit the processes. I really just want to see the apps I've initiated, not every process. I remember I tried this app some time ago and uninstalled it. I thought maybe I didn't use it correctly after hearing good comments, but I'm gonna uninstall it again.

Taskkiller not necessary on Android?

I have read that taskkiller is not necessary on Android as the OS will kill off running apps when it needs memory - what are people's thoughts on this?
Hmmm...I read somewhere (maybe on here) heard if the App is coded properly that when not in use it will be background so not take up memory.
Not too knowledgable, but in that case would imagine they are acting like a windows service so will be taking up memory somewhere....so perhaps what I read was nonsense
Well, I have stopped killing tasks and guess what - I notice no difference at all! Hero is just as speedy (or slow depending on how you wanna look at it!).
Interesting!
Killing truly idle applications wont have significant effect. There are however many applications which appear idle, but still drains resources. An example is Peep, the twitter client, which starts automatically even if there's no twitter account configured. It has some frequent checks that put load on the CPU and thus helps drain power. Killing it adds many hours of standby time.
i'm not using any task manager/killer, did try them for a couple of days, can't really tell the difference, except i was wasting time constantly killing apps :/

Ditto... surely there is no need as the OS will kill a unused app if it needs the memory ??? I don't have any problem running any apps one after the other... they just load.
The only lag I get is while the handset starts a widget update, once they are started everything runs slickly.
I found it a little slicker without taskiller. Especially in the use of big apps like copilot or documents2go. It seems to be managing itself pretty well.
Yep. I can report that the phone is working very well without Taskkiller. I have uninstalled it now.
If you are reading this, give it a try for a few days and tell us what you think. You may be pleasantly surprised...
Ditto - I've removed taskiller so I don't get tempted. Surprise surprise, no problems, no lag, etc. Now mostly this is due to removing the clock and people widget, but memory management seems fine after playing many different games and browsing the internet.
I think a benefit to doing this is that you aren't going to get and bizarre problems caused by killing system processes by accident - ie you won't miss alarms or stop receiving email alerts.

Battery life

Hi Everyone,
is it just me or since flashing your phone battery life is not that long?
i own x10a, i running not timescene stuff all wifi, gmail, email is all turned off. I just run the bare minimum hardly place games. use it to only text message and make calls and i just fully charged my phone last night and now it already used 1/4 of the battery from 5 text messages this morning. the phone is brand new. just got it last thursday. any ideas?
- reduce display brightness and time to turn off
- disable power-hungry features (wifi, gps, bluetooth, even gsm at certain time) - you can do that automatically using tasker and his 'wifi near', 'gsm cell near' action contexts
- use SetCPU to dynamically scale processor speed, it is probably enabled by default but setcpu gives you a way to configure it. rooting needed.
also, reducing cpu usage can help reduce battery usage:
- edit autostart and disable programs that you dont need to have in memory (for example, i dont know why titanium backup places in the autostart and is loaded, and no feature of it is needed for me in realtime so i disabled it)
- task killers can *probably* help by automatically cleaning up programs that reside in memory after using them. i think that some poorly written apps can use CPU even in background and even when they do nothing

hi thanks for the reply, yes i now notice when i reduced my brightness it has stoped chewing battery. when i get SetCPU will that allow me to configured the autostart application on my xperia x10?
i dont really know what you mean.
SetCPU sets cpu clock downsteping on specified profiles (for example display off - set cpu 284 mhz to 384 mhz)
Autostart managers allow removing programs that put themselves on autostart, like on ms windows you know . of course you can always launch them later with your touch )
type "autostart" on android market to browse and see what they can do.
SetCPU is either on market or XDA x10 forums - use forum search.
good luck!

Hi Devein,
sorry i am still having an issue with this application i power up the app and asks me to select my phone, i select auto detec because my phone is not listed, then it has a green scroll bar in the middle, i do not know how to setup profiles. and set this autostart manager you talk about.
thanks.
I figured it out thanks.
No problem: D
i am really disappointed though with the battery life of the x10. such an short battery life compared to what was stated.
Something weird has happened to my phone.. I was getting easily 16 hours off 60% charge.. then in the last 3-4 days it's dive bombing.. I'm down to 63% remaining from full charge after 5 hours... and haven't used it a lot..
Tried removing any new apps I've installed this week.. and also switched mobile data off as I've noticed that I've started getting a weak 3G signal at home and thought this might be the problem.. but doesn't seem to have slowed it down..
I'm on R2BA026 and not rooted.. I've not changed anything else..
Tempted to do a FDR it's that bad.. but I know that I'll get the 2.1 update in the next 2 weeks so really don't want to have to go through the pain of setting it all up again and then have to do it again when 2.1 lands!
The problem seems to have started when I did a test of using Moxier to get Hotmail Push.. but I've got rid of that now, and have cleared all the moxier data..
Confused!. Anyone?
(EDIT - Fixed it - for some reason Moxier still had data in it.. so deleted the data within App management and it's been ok since)
Check out my tutorial on getting the most out of Xperia X10 battery.
Most of the things have already been pointed out above. But, you still might come across a few tips not covered here in my tutorial.
As with iceman, most of the time it's some naughty app that causes all the trouble.

Want performance

Hi guys,
New android user here and using the P500. Just rooted my phone and only used a cpu overclock app on it. I want my phone to have better performance, I noticed this phone keeps running programs like settings, messaging apps, etc even though I never touched them, using up the ram pretty fast. Killed them with taskiller and other task manager apps but still they autostart after awhile.
How do I permanently disable them when not in use?
What other ways can I do to improve the performance?
I've read some threads here but as a noob android user I'm still lost. Hope to someone can guide me here and teach a thing or two.
From what I understand, those tasks running in the background will actually save you battery and memory. It has something to do with how the OS deals with many tasks at once. I'm not an expert at that so try reading a few articles on the android's task killing. There are pros and cons on both sides. I try not to mess around with my task killer anymore unless an app freezes on me.
Oh and the only way you can get rid of some is to uninstall the useless ones via root + root explorer or to use one of the many custom ROMs that have done away with bloatware. Most custom ROMs have the usual performance tweaks anyway so choose whichever has the least unnecessary apps (i went with the void-base ROM, almost zero apps then I manually installed the ones I will be using)

App to disable background tasks by button?

Sorry, I couldnt come up with a good topic subject. What Im hoping to find is a program like backgrounder for the iPhone. I didnt care about the the backgrounding function of the program, I used it to disable backgrounding on apps that I didnt want to stay in the background.
So, is there a program that, for example, pressing the home button for a few seconds will close the app, instead of backgrounding it?
Thanks!
Try autokiller memory optimizer. I've always ran it on my EvO. Instead of it hindering AOS, it helps it along, unlike ATK. Unfortunately we need root to run presets but you can go in and one-click the apps you don't want. I'm using it now just for that, but not @ it's fully potential @ the moment
Thanks - Yeah, I downloaded that early and notices without root that its "crippled" but its a start....

(Q) Kill running apps for good?

Okay so my battery life is amazing and this is not the reason for wanting to kill running apps. Sometimes I feel my phone getting a little sluggish (still pretty responsive tho) and after looking into this issue I found that I have so many third party apps that keep starting up and running in the background. I close them but they just keep coming back. I dont want to uninstall them because I use them often. I installed Advanced Task Killer to do the job but it only kills them and then they come back. Also I heard Task killers do more harm than good. Can anyone help me or give me some suggestions on how to stop these apps from constantly running? The built in task killer doesnt kill all the apps in the background. Hardly kills any of them. Just opened apps. Please help, this is really annoying me.
Unfortunately the only app I can think of that would be able to do what you need is an app called "Autostarts" and it requires root. So if you wanted to temp root your phone and purchase the app and set it up on every boot that's your best option.

Ill root and check it out. Thanks.
I definitely recommend AutoStart as well. I have it running on my phone as we speak and, not only does it improve on the already impressive battery life, but it keeps apps from self-loading in the background due to certain conditions being met by the phone.
Okay I got it rooted and installed autostarts. Now I need to play around with it cuz it looks complicated. Any tips?
