Myths busted. Three batteries for X10mini pro test. - Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mini

Ok, here we go. I tested three batteries for X10 mini pro. Testing conditions were real-time/normal use (that´s all we are interested in, and not some crazy testing programs) which means several calls, some mp3 listening (half an hour max), some wi-fi usage and browsing. GPS and background data transmission were always on. all tests were done at the same location (i.e. phone didn´t have to look for cells) with good 3,5G coverage. 00:to 9:00 phone was idle.
Time Ericsson Jin Dian Jinpintong
00:00 100% 100% 100%
09:00 60% 60% 65%
12:00 55% 52% 54%
15:00 28% 20% 44%
18:00 17% 16% 22%
21:00 dead at 19:30 dead at 19:00 8% (dead at 21:30)
As you can see the behaviour of the batteries is the same in the first 12 hours (until 50% discharge), the differences show up later.
I have attached a jpg file with battery pictures so that they can be easily identified. BST-38 was marked as 970mAh, Jin Dian 1420mAh and JPT as 1800mAh.
Tomorrow I will test the winner (JPT) switching the phone to GPRS only (no 3G)

thanks
would please give us a link to the Jinpintong battery please

It is somewhere on ebay. Make a search on BST-38, then start looking at the pictures and compare with the one I posted. It is usually sold as "business battery". By the way the 1800 mAh written on it is bull**** as well, because theoretically it should give us at least 50% time increase, and as a result we get barely 2-3 hours extra.
By the way, can someone who owns a DEJI battery repeat my test, so that we will haveit for comparison?

I bought it from this guy http://myworld.ebay.com/efoodlifecn/ he erroneously had them listed as 1650 mAh batteries, and currently doesn´t have any BST-38 compatible ones listed, but write him and ask about it. Since he sells a lot of batteries (the yellowish ones) from the same JPY (jinpintong) factory, he must be their dealer.

how many charge cycles have the batteries gone through before testing?
I have the Jin Dian battery and haven't noticed much if any improvement over the stock battery

That is exactly what my test shows. Jin Dian gives no improvement at all, and Jinpintong gives a marginal improvement of 2 hours.
The quantity of cycles doesn´t matter, as Li-Ion batteries have no memory effect, but just for information, all of them went through at least 10 cycles, before the test.

Nice comparison, i wonder if i can use these for the X10 Mini

No, you can't.

I´ve ordered a DEJI battery from DinoDirect, the one that everyone is praising, and as soon as it arrives, will repeat the same test for it.

Modifying build.prop battery info makes no difference on physical battery capacity. But if you doubt it, I can test DEJI battery (when it arrives) both with and without modifying.

yes i do think so but maybe the system have some sort of overcharging protection and limits battery performance...
good testing

Overcharging protection is built into the battery itself.

In my case when my battery going down fast, it's due to an application.

I don´t think it´s an application. If I enter airplane mode (all applications still running) - I lose 5% for the time I lose 45% with transmission enabled. We have excellent 3,5G coverage, so no issue with signal loss or level.
It is just badly managed battery. When I was on win 6.5 it lasted MUCH longer. Btw. other Android phones suffer from the same - just check out the other forums - everyone complains about the same ****.

TP2 battery

Anyone know where I can buy a extra battery for the TP2? I have found a couple in the UK but would rather find a seller in the US.
Part# - BA S390
Is the part# listed above the correct battery for the TP2?
Mine actually says "RHOD160" on the back of it...
I found a 1500mah battery on ebay (item# 250445669999) with a "buy it now" for $8.95.
Anyone have any experience with this "replacement" battery. If so, how does it compare with the original battery which is 1500mah also?
****Update****
I also found this 1500mah battery on ebay (item # 270409538954) with a "buy it now" for $21.99

I stick with genuine batteries now as I had a bad experience with after market batteries. My TyTN2 has issues turning on, and randomly turns off - even after I put the genuine battery back in. It seems the after market battery did some permanent damage.
I recently received some 1500mah batteries for the TP2. I purchased 3 units. I have a friend that will test these batteries before I use it. I will use one for the office, home and the other one will be opened and my friend will inspect the board and cell of battery. He usually takes about a week to do these test so, I will give you a update next week, if possible.
I dont really have a problem with the battery life of the TP2. Its just in case I forget to charge it over the weekend, due to my drunken stupor. Its nice to have a backup battery at home or work.
maybe I'm the only one with short life battery problem on rhodium... but I have to complain... after 3 times I've charged ...the battery dies in the evening.
maybe I must be patience and maybe it will improve after some charging cicle...but for now I'm disappointed.
anybody've seen a better battery on market for TP2?
well... i been an iphone user for a long time..
well since the first gen came out...
i still own an iphone First Gen (2g)
and now i been with the TOuch Pro 2
for about 3 weeks..
i love the TP2...
i did a test.. a little one tho..
i live in NEw YOrk.. in the bronx
i had to go to the JFK airport
in train so it was arround 1 hour and 20 minutes
maybe the trip...
i charged both phones to 100percent...
i was listening to music the WHOLE TRIP with the Iphone
and the TP2 was Idle...
when i got there... my iphone still was 100...
the TP2 was about 91%....
another stuff that i know it drains a little my battery from the TP2
is beejive but i cant live without it, i been trying a lot of methods to
increase my battery, cant see it perform better..
TP2 fully charge in the morning and it dies before 7pm..
just Textin, and some phone calls ( about 3-5 calls )
no website .. if so maybe 1 website .. no emails no push anything...
no bluetooh no wifi...
i ordered an extra battery and a craddle i hope this helps me.
something i figured was that the charging is REALLY FASTTTT....
it can go out 20% in about 15-25minutes of charging
( wall plug ) ... dont try to charge from USB it will take u 200 hours LOL
when i first got it i always charged from usb and used to take me like 8 hours
even more to fully charge it.. but when i tried from the wall plug..is Amazing
how fast it charges..

Peace dude.
Not saying that your statement is false or deceiving, just that your iphone battery meter was lying to you.
Clearly the battery level can't be at 100% after 1 hr 20 min of use. The meter must only drop when the battery gets to a certain level. Kinda like when you fill your gas tank and the needle stays on full for the next 50Km.
You must have the 1% increment tweak installed. Notice how a couple of minutes after taking it off charge it drops to 99%. At least this is realistic aye enjoy your TP2.
I found the screen brightness was one of the biggest battery killers. Since I took it off auto adjust and set it to full brightness all the time, the life had significantly decreased.

I don't believe you.. I dare say that because I was a user of iPhone 3G.. battery is hopeless.. I SURELY didn't get that kind of situation.. My wife still has an iPhone 3G.. also can't replicate your kind of situation..
In anycase, I do not believe any mobile phone device, listening to music at >1hr can still be at 100%.. surely the battery reporting driver has gone haywire..
However I'm not saying TP2 doesn't have battery reporting issues. Infact most HTCs I use seem to report battery differently at times.. usually after a soft reset, it shows a different battery status.

It's just about how you use the phone.
I normally get a bit more than 2 days out of one charge, but then I'm calling and writing, surfing and checking EMails every 30 minutes, youtubing and listening to music.
Now I went over my data plan so I disabled the Mail-checking and did not listen to music for a while. The battery now lasts for 3 days with already 60% left.
I would say, one week battery lifetime isn't much of a problem if you don't use the phone's functions in any matter

Anyone bought one of these? Seems cheap - but if it works...
Comparin iPhone 2G with TP2 is not an apple for apple comparison. First compare with the ipHone 3G (Remember how poeple complained their 3G was lasting really less than their 2G and were switching from 3G to 2G to spare battery life ?)
Besides as many underlined the battery meter from iPhone is decieving (The TP2 has issues but less I believe)
In the end my TP2 last rougly 136 hours an I am quite a hevay user. Even if the iPhone last longer (I dont have an iPhone so cant compare both feelings, and my previous remarks come from my friends' experince who own one), the nice point with the TP2 is to be able to replace the battery with another one
wu dudes, well,my tp2 comes in 7 days.... i'll test it and than post here about life batery.... and freeway4you maybe u charge your batery when its not 0%. if you do that the batery is gonna be weak. sorry the english...

Yea i've had that same exact problem today, charged it, went to sleep and i woke up it was almost empty. I went back to the shop and replaced it, i'll see what happens now. Although after doing some research I think that it has to take some cycles to reach full capacity. Good luck bro ...

[Q] Dangerous battery???

Hi,
I found a compatible with BST-38 (for the mini pro) Li-ion 3.7V and 1420 mAh (my phone battery is Li-Po 3.6V and 970 mAh), do you think that can be "dangerous" to use one of these batteries? (The brand name is Jin Dian and what worries me is if this difference of 0.1V can damage the mobile, whether it will be more or less good in general) You can see it on ebay (220676929621).
I'm just desperate because I tried autokiller, setCPU, advanced task manager, juicedefender, etc. (droid wall and Wisync didn`t work properly in my phone), but my battery dies in less than 15 hours...I need a solution!
Thanks and sorry for my poor English
15 hours using it how? full? idle?
SE says with android 2.1 the battery life will be increased 200%, maybe before to burn your phone you should wait a couple of weeks and try if it is true... xD
15 h with data connect on for k-9 email, but without BT, wifi and a couple of calls.
I bought the same battery and have been using it for the past 4 days. To be honest, it lasts about the same as the stock's. Maybe with a few more cycles, it would last longer.
But does anyone know of any app that could measure the mAH?
There is a BST38 battery with 1930 mAH selling on eBay but will burn a HUGE hole in your pocket!

I used to charge my phone every 2 days. I used it mainly for calls, sms and internet. I dont stay more than ten mins each time Im online which could be 2-3 times a day. I dont have bluetooth, wifi and 3G switched on. But lately the battery life is dwindling...maybe cuz I have more apps now...sigh.

I'd be interested in your results. I just got my x10 mini pro and have already noticed that the battery doesn't last long. Same as my old Nokia n95 and before that a SE p800... eventually both these phones got decent higher power batteries available... I'll wait till I get a few reports. Maybe someone could build a thicker back case and a bigger battery?
What we must know is : is it a lithium-ion or lithium-polymer battery
Because, Li-Ion last longer, but they get warm quickly
Li-Polymer are quite the same, but they stay cold.
Oh... The battery performance are quite the same between those two

how could a battery of the same size provide almost three times the capacity of the stock one? maybe it's because it uses the new Li-bull**** technology

Sure, here it is:
Made in Japan
2 year warranty
Utra-high capacity battery
Maximises time between charges
Delivers superior performance
Robust & durable battery
Direct battery replacement
Stable and safe to use
No memory effect
Uses Li-poly technology
Capacity: 2430mAh
Its not your li-ion battery crap that overheats and causes the mini to reboot, its li-poly.
With reports of 1930mh lasting for 6 days with one charge, im guessing 2430mah could last 8 - 10 days =)

does it work for mini or just for mini pro?
I just googled a little about gold batteries from Japan. samsunggalaxysforums.com/archive/index.php/t-3856.html?
found a thread where samsung galaxy user tried gold battery and it lasted much more than stock. If i remember in a heavy usage user managed to get abou 3 hours with stock and more than 5 hours with gold battery. It seems that original batteries cost about 20 usd for piece.
I will try to buy one and test it because the one of my mini pro doesn't last more thant 4 hours with heavy use (3g umts 24/7 online, push for twitter, gmail, listening to music in streaming. or watching videos from the sd. and the battery in my phone is of 970 mAh Li-ion and it overheat fast .w.

Wow 4 hours thats bad!
Then again mine is probably that bad too...the heaviest I use it is having 3G/wifi on and chatting on facebook or whatsapp, perhaps whilst listening to music.
And yes, the battery drops at something like 1% every 3 minutes or so...its ridiculous!
Which is why I hardly ever use it heavily whilst im away from home - I'm scared it'll go flat while I'm out!
I'm seriously considering getting an Iphone as my next phone now, because android phones in general do not last a normal day under heavy use...whilst my friends with their Iphone 4s constantly have 3G on, with their large screen on nearly full brightness, constantly checking facebook and chatting over the internet...yet their batteries last the day quite easily....

Guy from samsung forum has battery from digi.tech seller and looks like that battery really works much better than OEM.
Just bought the 2430 mHa battery on eBay,. I hope to get it within a week.
I'll give you a feedback report as soon as I get the new battery. Bye

Did you got your battery already?
Hi guys! My Gold 2430 mHa battery arrived about a week ago. I needed some tests before I could give my opinion.
I expected more than a 100% improvement from this battery compared to the 950 mHa standard battery, the facts say that I can get only from 30 to 60% improvement. At the evening, whereas I had 10-20% of charge, now I still have 30-40%.
I think it's possible that the phone stop charging too soon, when it get to a given level of charge, so I ordered an external charger (I hope it will arrive soon) to make more tests.
I am not sure, but it seems that the new battery full charges faster than the old one.
A notice: the battery is a bit longer than the stock one. I had to slice a little of plastic with a knife (less than a millimetre) to let it fit into the phone.

battery problems

hello all.
my tg01 has some problems:
1) after a full charge the battery goes to 10% in about 20-30 min of 3g opera, is this normal?
2)after a full charge the battery goes to 10% after one day of 3-4 phone calls 5-10 min each, is this also normal ?
I bought the device 6 months ago and i didn't use it for about 3 months( didn't charge it).
Is there any way to fix this problem , can i format the battery or anything else?
( i use one of the latest of miro roms based on win 6.1 with spb shell and a hero-like theme with about 75 megabite of free ram .)

Basically, the system the TG01 uses to measure battery charge is very inaccurate, one reason is that it is not measured correctly, to demonstrate this restart your phone, and guess what, you magically have a extra 10-20% battery remaining, but even that is inaccurate as it will probably drop off very quickly back to where it was before you restarted!
And in answer to battery life, well this is the big achiles' heel of the TG01, battery life is poor, its fine if you are not far from a power point or car chatger all day. This is simply a symptom of poor design, the device was designed to be the slimmest mobile phone in the world at the time, yet draws a lot of power when using certain functions and is equipped with a inadequate 1000mah battery capacity.
You cannot format a battery, but you can buy another one!
I bought a second official battery on ebay to solve this problem to a point.
Buy a Mugen-Power 1300mah battery or opt for the extended 2600mah or 3900mah batteries and you will have very good battery life, but a very chunky 1" thick TG01.
tenks for the answers. WHAT will be the improvement with a mugen 1300 mh? does anyone have it already ?

Literally a 30% increase in battery life over the stock 1000mah battery.
Here a video of how Mugen 2600 and 3900 looks....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CfljgI6xe0s
In my opinion, the 2600 size can still be acceptable. The 3900 looks horrible..as a brick...

If You want to show the people "look how nice phone I have" You are right but for whole day outdoor usage it is second to none. I have such solution and I am proud

He he. You can be laughing but I can ensure You , I can keep it it in my hand more surely than in thin cover. So in GPS usage for example it is much better than with thin cover.

[Q] Performance Issues of Battery (BST-38) on Xperia X10 mini pro (U20i)

This is a topic I started on Xperia Support Forums: http :// talk . sonymobile . com/t5/Xperia-X10-mini-pro/Performance-Issues-of-Battery-BST-38-on-Xperia-X10-mini-pro-U20i/m-p/402537
My Battery BST-38 is discharged so fast that I cannot even tap OK button on "Battery Power Status 15%, 10%, 5%" messages.
I have managed to open Service → Service tests menu and applied Battery Test. After some hours spent on battery test:
Result
REDUCED CAPACITY
I have stock software and hardware. Only some apps installed from Android Market. Nothing flashed, nothing rooted, nothing hacked. Maybe some cracked apps (for trial, for sure  )
Nothing modified.
And my battery died after 10 months. All I have been doing to my U20i is daily recharging for sure.
So, the question is:
How can I get my batterie's health, fitness, performance back?
Or you can recommend other things, you are the pro.
(PS: I'm living in Türkiye.)
Peace and love.
Just remember- never discharge device completly
Charge it with the wall-charger only, NOT through usb.
Make it charge for about 3.5 hours every time, even when it says it's full.
Recharge it when it's somewhere between 15 and 20 percent left.
If you don't see improvements this way, you may need a new battery.
I should say thanks to you.
Now I just need one more question to be answered:
When I am going to buy new battery, how should I prefer it to get best strength / stamina / durability / performance? What kind of battery should I choose in manufacturer , #value of mAh, #value of Wh, etc. categories?
Note: Stock U20i battery says
Battery - BST-38
Li-Polymer - 3.7V
Type CBA - 0002018B GB/T 18287 - 2000 4.2V
970 mAh 3.6Wh
Made in China 2010

Thank you, sir. I checked your link to the topic but I've found nothing for me to buy/get in where I live.
So I have another Sony Ericsson BST-38 bought.
This one says:
Sony Ericsson
Battery - BST-38
Li-Polymer 3.6V
Type CBA-0002008
930mAh
Made in China.
This is from OEM, but mAh capacity is less. I will test it and post results as I can in some hours.

Well, after the test:
Result
REDUCED CAPACITY
again. I think lower mAh value is the reason but yet I'm not sure and I don't know.
How can I solve this problem?

Did you wipe the battery stats, so it tests with a clean slate? You can try that on your old and on your new battery.

Sorry I couldn't understand what exactly you meant, so I'm giving lots of answers:
Test results are being saved as */LOG files on SDCard with date informations without any need to overwrite.
On the phone, no hardware (including battery and inner-case) or software is modified after factory.
I have tested ex and newer batteries and ex one took 1,5 - 2 hours to test but new one took more than 3,5 hours. Then I got the same "Reduced Capacity" results for the tests on each battery.

You can wipe the battery history using for example: THIS app.
It will completely erase everything android thinks it knows about your battery, resulting in it treating your battery like new. It may change the opinion android has of your battery and thus give you a more reliable estimate, instead of working with, (what may be), old or invalid data.

Thank you for the trick, sir. I will try it.
I would like to inform you about new battery:
Altough new battery failed at the test (Battery Test in Service menu), it does just fine without anything abnormal.
I fully recharged it 18 hours ago, and since that I'm using my U20i as a casual user, my battery's status is 48% now. (in 18 hours: with mobile data traffic on, texting for ~1 hour, calling for 20 minutes, web browsing for 30 minutes, background services off and brightness full.) I think that performance is just good but I have no idea battery failed at test (as you mentioned, maybe test results needs to be wiped) OR just maybe it has less mAh (930mAh) than stock one (970mAh).
So I will find out what causes this.
Now I have one new question: How should I use my battery? I will charge it when it reaches 20%~15%, while recharging I will try to use not it as possible as I can. Any more tips or tricks?

48% left after 18 hours with the usage you specified is not bad at all.
You can use it when it's charging, that's not a problem, but try to charge it through the wall-charger as much as possible, and not through usb.

Some people told me it's bad to discharge battery while recharging it, and I found it legit. But recharging is not a problem for me, because I will recharge it when it's night.
Can you or anyone recommend me anything more about battery health? Any advice will be appreciated.

The wall-charger will deliver more juice than the phone needs when you use it, so it's not really discharging, just charging slower. That said, if you don't need to it's better to just let it charge.
As far as battery health is concerned, just don't let it go below 10%, emptying it completely is not good for this type of battery. There's not much else to it.

Thank you a lot, sir. I will always remember your advices. :good:
Oh - I almost forgot to ask - What should I do about overcharging? I mean, what to worry about?
