IDK if people use this but i use it and it works JUST FINE...
to root my 2.1 xperia x10 mini pro i just went on app market...
typed in "root" into search and scroll down a LITTLE
and this Chinese thingy saying z4root--(Chinese symbols ...) root (more symbols)
came up looked at comments seemed legit, downloaded & installed.
it took about 2 - 3 minutes to root the device once I opened it.
looked like it had froze... but it didn't... just took a while to apply the root.
rooted my device, auto restarted it, and Tada works fine now no hassle
it all kinda happy with it.
Even came with the superuser thingy pre-installed too.
downloaded a over-clocking tool and granted root permissions and works fine.
[[[UPDATES]]]
Downloaded systemapp remover used to uninstall lots of apps
still working fine and faster battery lasts longer because of things I don't use
( this is with the over clocking tool keeping my phone at 600mhz ALL DAY )
Heres is a small list I've been messing around with...
SAFE UNINSTALL LIST CLICK HERE
confirmed, works like a charm (no other root worked for me)
thanks liamguest
nice work!!
thnksss!!!!!it works fine at my E10i mini!!!!!you are great!!
nice work, I have found that there is a English version of the same program and it works very well. Tried it on my wife's U20i with Android 1.6.
Thanks a lot, lets see now if I can upgrade to 2.1 :=)
It took less than 30 seconds and the phone did not freeze at all (maybe 1.6 is easier to root than 2.1)
good job !!!beneficial
why do you keep your phone on 600mhz?
OK, update....
I am not sure that is roots 1.6 (it looked as if it was rooted), but when I tried to open root explorer, I would always get a error saying that it can not access root privileges because of super user. No matter how many times I would reboot the phone or reopen root explorer the same message would always pop up.
Now I have updated to 2.1 (officially with SEUS), and I am trying this tool again.
Hope that this time it will work. So far I am waiting for it to root for 6 minutes. Will post back how much time it took.
Regards to all.
Update:
After 15 min and I was still waiting for the root. I ended up taking out the battery, and doing it again. The device got rooted the 2nd time quite fast (max 2 min), and now I can use root explorer, thus I have finally rooted the phone.
Have fun.
a question about the root... is it full root (s-off)?
I want to install font changer (to get bigger fontsize), and despite my having rooted my phone, and granted su permissions to this app, it tells me it doesn't have permission to write to the system partition, where the fonts are.
I have been trying via adb shell via cmd on the PC, a terminal emulator on the phone, I get the #, but no joy when I try to mount as rw.
Tried mounting each folder on the phone to rw, didn't work either
This is with Android 2.1 (I have managed to remove all Vodafone branding, games trials from the phone, so the basic su permissions are there, just not the "FULL ROOT")
z4root isnt showing on market anymore, at least not for me anyway, either the x8 or the x10
Worked great on mine, where all others failed. Currently uing SE's latest 2.1 update 1
X10 mini pro U20
Hi,
I have a problem with upgrading and wondered if anyone could help, please. I have searched the forum and couldn't find an exact answer to my problem.
In November my wife broke the usb on her X10i and hasn't been able to upgrade to 2.1 because of Sony's lack of OTA updates.
Is it possible to root and flash 2.1 on the X10i using the SDcard only instead of connecting the phone to the PC through usb?
What is the best way to root and the best 2.1 rom to use when flashing a pay monthly O2 X10?
Thanks for any help in advance.
The model is an X10i
Firmware 1.6 (obviously)
baseband 1.0.16
Kernel 1.6.29
Build R1FA016
1. Search & download Z4 root to your sd card (use google, can't miss it)
2. Download BUSYBOX from the market
3. Follow the instructions on this link to install XRECOVERY:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=859571
After these your phone should be ready to be flashed, it's just a matter of what you want to flash it to.
Hope these help.
Thank you, I'll try your suggestions.
A standard 2.1 rom that works on an O2 x10i is fine to flash to, doesn't have to be customised or fancy. Any suggestions on the best and most stable rom to go for?
Cheers.
I think you will be fine with the Generic 2.0.2.A.0.24 build. (Thought I had the link to the zip file but I must have deleted it, I used the flashtool exclusively for 2.1 and I used xrecovery when I started to use froyo.) I've only had my x10 for a little over 2 months, flashed it to 2.1 after a few days of getting it then I switched to 2.2 betas since the new year but I was happy with that 2.1 version the short time I had it.
Thank you very much
A couple more annoying newbie question though.
I rooted the phone but couldnt install busybox from the market, does Z4 root install it when it roots the phone?
I can't move the three xrecovery files from my sdcard into the system/bin folder on the phone. Do I need to install Root Explorer from the Market to access and write the 3 files onto the phone system folder?
Thanks.

No problem I have a few things I still need to learn myself so no worries.
First, when you run z4 root does it say that its rooted?
Did you get an error when installing busybox or are you saying you can't find it in the market?
No, z4 doesn't install busybox.
Yes, you'll need to install root explorer before you can push any file to the system/bin folder/ on the phone.
Z4root worked, i chose permanant root, when I try to install busybox I get the message
Your Phone is rooted.
Busybox was not found.
The app failed either because your device is not nand unlocked or we were unable to remount.
I installed Titanium backup to check the phone is rooted and it says it could not require root priviliges either.

Sounds like z4 root didn't work since 2 different apps does not see your phone as being rooted. Uninstall z4 then search and download for Universal Androot 1.6, that's the other root app I've used in the past.
Thanks.
Phone rooted, busybox and root explorer installed.
Xrecovery files moved.
Can't get into the xrecovery menu at startup
My rooted Orange San Francisco is looking like a good buy now. I'll give up on messing with the phone. Thanks for all your help and time, my wife gets a new phone in year and it will probably take me that long to get it working and for SE to release 2.2

hi there, dont give up now, you are getting so close!
you dont really need to use xrecovery menu at all. the idea for you would be the following:
1. root the 1.6 phone - done
2. install titanium backup/my backup pro and backup your data - done (i think)
3. download the 2.1 flashtool from the following thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=683793 (choose the appropriate ROM - if unsure ask questions! i would recommend the latest X10a_2_1_A_0_435_GLOBAL)
4. run the flash tool and update phone to 2.1
5. reroot phone with z4root and reinstall backup software
6. recover all backups and you are now done!
i should clarify also.....the reason i have recommended you NOT to use the xRecovery menu is fairly simple. If you are not planning on constantly flashing new ROMs and booting into other ROMS, then its simply not necessary for you.
The benefits of xRec are that you can take a complete backup of your phone, flash it with something else and then recover the backup when you are done. Its a simple way to flash new roms quickly, but as i said, not really necessary for you.
Flashtool is very easy to use, all the instructions are provided on the screen, and it is done in 5 minutes also, there are lots and lots of tutorials posted around the place too.
good luck!

You are on point MRTIM, I can't argue with what you said. But like he mentioned on his first post, his wife broke the USB on the phone that's why he is doing it the long way.
@Scribbling Are you pressing the back button on the phone as soon as you see the white SE screen?
If you are still having trouble there is another way. One thing I failed to mention is the new version of xrecovery 0.3 is an actual APK file. That means you can just download it to your PC, transfer to your SD card, browse to the location on your phone then tap to install it. If you need a browser you can use ASTRO FILE MANAGER from the Market which is free.
PLEASE NOTE AND I CAN NOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH. If you are going to try and reinstall the xrecovery APK package, make sure to uninstall BUSYBOX then pull any xrecovery files that you already pushed to the phone prior to installing the v0.3 APK.
Let us know if you have any other questions. I agree with MRTIM, why stop now? You are almost there.
Thanks.
Broken Usb is the annoying bit
I'll try installing Xrecovery as an apk.
Ugh..... Xrecovery could not be installed to this device. I'll try Xrec 0.2 later, if I can find the will.
ok this is a tutorial for those people stuck on a login screen.
first-off im not a develloper (far from it)
all info here is made by others and i do not take credit for it!
credits are @ the bottom.
since this question keeps popping up all over the forum and i had a bricked se myself i used a whole bunch of "tutorials" wich all lead to nothing,
so the i started fiddling around since it was broken anyway.
let me first explain i would like to thank the community here for offering all these great tools wich allow us to modify and restore our se.
ok so when i started my phone was completly bricked.
@ 1 point i managed to install xrecovery and accidentally installed a x10 version of a update.zip file...
i managed to flash that update.zip of a x10 version to my x10 mini pro wich completly destroyed my system.
i had no chance to boot in xrecovery because i am a complete noop in installing any kind of script to a android phone.
(if i were pro i would not have bricked it to start of with )
i accidentally wiped xrecovery in one of my previous attempts to "fix" my se with the flashtool ...yes i forgot to run the good update.zip out of the firmwares folder and choose the wipeuserdata option wich removed my xrecovery that i had installed....
so everything that could go wrong went wrong...
since it didnt really matter what i did with my freshly created brick i started digging around on the forums and found this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=920746
wich is a great way to flash roms to a previous version.
so i downloaded the tool 0.26 was the version wich i used.
after i got the tool installed i downloaded a new "old" rom.
i had too fool the se companion tool that i was using a old version.
these roms are found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=826455
pick anyone because it does not matter at all (since im dutch i used the dutch version)
even though my system files were messed up to a point of no return the rom installed just fine but did not boot... but now i had atleast a older rom installed.
so i started the se companion and crossed my fingers...
and it updated! because the old rom was predated to their latest firmware they pushed out the update wich fixed the system files and gave me the latest firmware.
but now ofcourse i was on a stock rom not rooted or anything.
since i am such a noob at this i tried a new all in one script made by mikevhl
found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=10596265#post10596265
it automaticly rooted my phone, installed busybox and xrecovery
after that i just ran the keyboard layout fix found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=822050
but now i needed apps2sd because that was the only reason i ever started this madness called upgrading....
but instead i found this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=919326
it is not apps2sd!! but links2sd
Instead of moving all applications to SD card with app2sd, I want to move only selected applications.
Because I don't want to move my launcher, soft keyboard and dialer application to SD and make them unavaliable on boot if my SD card has problem or not inserted.
and because this is a apk even a geek like me can install that with astro..
please note that Link2SD does not move data and dalvik-cache, it only moves the apk file. This is what Android 2.2+ does. APKs are actually on the card; the dex files, private data directories, and native shared libraries remain in internal storage.
for actual apps2sd i would reffer you to use any other script/installation w/e. after all my failures i could not be asked anymore and found that this sollution was more than enough for me
the only thing you need to do is partition your sd card wich is verry easy and there is a perfect tutorial allready found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=SD_card_partitioning
so now i changed my bricked phone wich i considered dead to a working latest firmware rooted xrecovery links2sd working phone in less than a hour..
i would like to thank:
Androxyde and bin4ry for flashtool!
whooper90 for his keyboard-layout tutorial!
Mikevhl for his perfect script!
bakpinar for his links2sd program!
and ofcourse everyone contributing to their projects.
amen
a good post.thank you
nice post but i want you to point at an easier way
when you soft bricked your devices and i think i am one that have done that the most in this forum lol
have restores my soft bricked pro for more like 350 times now...
pull battery out open SEUS go further till you see you need to connect your phone
plug usb cable in it hold back button and put battery back in
and you rom will be flashed
this will always work coz we have s1 bootloader and thanks for that SE!
unless you go **** around with the boatloader ofc xD
i recently moved on to yet another mobile phone which i hope to be using for a couple of months since the se was not entirely to my liking but yes your method works fine ofcourse unless your bootloader is messed up
anyways i just expressed my way of fixing my problem on the situation i got myself into..which is probably verry simmilar to most nubs messing around on a android the first time and end up with a soft bricked phone... and to help them understand their bricked phone i wrote my little tut just for the nubs like myself.
what if i stuck at the SE logo?
my problem already solved now..thanx every1..xda roxx
Hey guys, hate starting new threads, but this time I just had to. Here's the deal:
First I had a Galaxy Ace. I rooted it, and used root normally for a couple of months. Then something went bazzerk (don't know how to spell bazzerk xD), just as it is on my new Xperia neo. My root explorer works flawlessly and I'm able to mount my system r\o / r\w when ever I want and explore all sys files. BUT, my ROM toolbox, GO backup, etc. all apps that actualy "touch" system files (I mean change or retrieve the above), freeze when a command is given. I.e. I want to move an unmovable app to the sd card. The file IS moved, but the app freezes on "loading". GO backup: I restore a file, it's completely restored, but the app frezzes on 99% even though the job's done. Why is this happening, and is there a way to fix it?
Thank you all, and cheers
P.S. This problem sometimes just vanshies, but it's back a few days later.
P.P.S. I tried restarting, taking the battery out, restarting SU, and restarting the freezing apps, nothing erases the problem.
Have to you tried to factory reset in your phones settings?
If you´re rooted check the superuser app and loock at the log
what does superuser state?

No, I think that would fix it but then I'd have to set back everything on my phone, which I don't want

Superuser says everything's fine. I already mentioned I can see all my root files with no problem. But when another app tries the same, it freezes.

Installed, checked. Says it's rooted. I'm using Superuser and it's reporting no problems. Still freezes when an app changes something.
The thing is root works, I mean I can backup\restore app data, freeze apps, etc. but after the phone does this, the app freezes, even though it's done. A very strange problem. Is there anything I could have accidently made to brake it (exept disallowing an app from Superuser rights, I checked that three times; allways allowed) ?
I remember that i faced such problems a few weeks ago...
some root file explorers denied me the acces to the root files while i tried to change a bootanimation
root acces was granted but it didnt worked
afterwards i tried another root file explorer and it worked fine
why ?
i dont know but something went wrong with the first file browser
Try SuperSU v0.95
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053
Thank you all, it so happened that this version of Superuser didn't quite well support these versions of apps. Just changed the ROM Toolbox to a newer version, and it works perfectly.
:good:
apparently not working after root
noob here, I did my first root today, and have only been an android user for 2 weeks after defecting from apple since the first iphone. I was a jailbreak veteran of idevices, but I got bored with the stale bread, so I spent my taxmas on a Samsung galaxy s4. Specifically wanting the i9500 version so it would be unlocked to use on net10. I followed the steps from website, and video on Odin. And it looked like it worked perfectly. It wasn't until I tried to my photo gallery app to look at some pictures, and it crashed and wouldn't load. I had the same issue with a business calendar issue app that wouldn't open. I tried clearing system cache on gallery app but no luck. I'm afraid I'm in over my own head now, and might want to restore and start from scratch. The first thing I did after rooting was a full Titanium backup. only things that I installed after root was xposed installer and an app within the installer called swipeback.
I would like to know if there is a fix for this, without having to break away from root? Or if I must, how do I know which stock file I need. I know it's i9500ubueMk1 but there's many different regions.. I bought from a best buy in Charlotte . If there isn't a simple fix to fix why my apps aren't working, then the root does more harm than good, and I wanna go back to normal.
Someone please walk me through this!!
thanks

I had the same problem. Theres nothing wrong with your phone, its the app. Instead of root explorer, download root browser. It works better
Hi guys, yep another newbie
Stressed to the max and have read threads here and elsewhere til my eyes bled, watched so many Tube Vid's I think I've actually fried my brain
(Also having trouble with Flashtool but can't post there yet, running Ubuntu 12.04,tried Wine and XP in a VM to no avail)
I have an unlocked Xperia X10i that was rooted by a mate using an older version of Flashtool and he said the Firmware was the 2nd last one for Xperia X10. (can't post link yet)
By the looks of the "Settings"- "About",it shows what seems by all the reading here that its stock 2.3.3
It reads:
Android V.2.3.3
Baseband v.2.1.71
Kernel v.2.6.29-00054-g5f01537
[email protected] #1
Build number. 3.0.1.G.0.75
I've used Apps to check I have root and some say I do,some just hang until I hit the back button and I get the same error I get with all SU related Apps. It says " Activity Superuser Request(in application Superuser)is not responding."
I have used SU Update Fixer and it says:
No problems detected.
Checking signatures.....OK!
If I use SU Binary updater it says.
Downloading manifest...fail!
Hit try again and it says:
Sorry!
The Apllication Superuser(process com.noshufuo.android.su)has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again. [Force close]
Basically,I'm totally over it and stressed as it it is.
I would like to get root access and use Flashtool to rid the bloatware, install Xrecovery, but atm to fix the audio stutter so I can use it for my relaxation stuff without snapping out of a meditative state....then when I get the hang of things well.....:highfive: onto better things
Mainly for now,I'd like to dump the bloatware crud and use the relaxation recordings...god knows I need them!!
I do have the xRecovery Installer on the SD card but when I launch that, it hangs and I get the earlier error.
A few other odd things like not being able to backup all the stuff and I have Titanium Backup Pro showing in the "Manage Applications" but it's gone from the Menu(not that it worked because of the SU problem.)
I have searched and searched and until I'm 100% on the whole Flashtool thing, I'm not game to go stuff it and do another root...not that I have that nailed yet.
Sorry for the long winded explanation guys,it's really doing my head in.
Any help would be greatfully accepted.
Many thanks,
Cheers,
Mushy
