[Q] Best ROM for Streak? - Streak 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, now that I have this new Streak, I would like to put a new ROM on it. Is there a location that lists the various ROMs that are available, with a description of each?
Can anyone recommend a goof Froyo build for the Streak?
Thanks!

the only chef we have for streak is dj_steve and the rom is called streakdroid, currently on ver 1.6.1 and the post regarding it is in t he android dev forum

Thanks, I have been looking at that, but didn't know it was the only option. Now I am trying to figure out how to get clockwork on it...

utilities guide:

(download the pdf in the first post)

Thanks, I finally got it to work using Streakmod. There is a hex command that you have to add to the fastboot command that didn't show up on the tutorial I was looking at.

if you use clockwork, the guide is exactly the way you should do it, not sure about streakmod though

Honestly, I would use the QDL tool to get 309 on there, then update to the dell non carrier version of 318 and flash smokku and fard's kernel mod that will over clock your processor and give you quadrant scores of 2000

Head to StreakDroid.com and just follow the guide.
QDL tool to the "official" 2.2, and then use the StreakMod version of Clockwork and flash to DJ_Steve's 1.6.1
My Quadrant scores are now over 2500. Lovin' it.

I appreciate that you took the time to offer advice, but I have no idea what you said...
Does that mean there are more than one Streak ROM out there? I like th clean interface on DJ Steve's 1.61, but it seems buggy and I get a lot of force closes and other weird issues.

U gotta flash version 1.5.1 then factory reset using stock recovery then flash back to 1.6.1
After that it shouldnt be buggy anymore. The reason u go down to 1.5.1 is bc the later versions don't support factory reset.

going from o2 2.2 to dj steve 1.6.1

i wanna install dj steves new rom but right now i have o2 build 2.2 gausb1a131921-us, kernal 2.6.32.9-perf, and build number 12972. Can i just flash dj steves rom directly over top of this or are there more things i need to add. Any help is appreciated.
You'll first need to flash a custom recovery. Either StreakMod or ClockWorkMod, after which you can flash Steve's 1.6.1
Where can I download fastboot from for some reason cmd wont respond to fastboot commands anymore wanna make sure I got a good version

Look for the "Everything you need to know about the Dell Streak" thread here. Think it might be in the Streak Android Development section. Has a PDF with all the proper steps and links to the necessary files.
i feel dumb but fastboot wouldnt work because the file on my desktop was fastboot--windows, i then renamed it to fastboot and all is working. got dj steves 1.6.1 downloading ight now.

[Q] Rooted 2.2.1 About to ROM

Hey Guys,
I'm very glad XDA exists to help us take charge and modify our gadgets!
Here is my Dilemma and I hope there is a solution.
Specs: Rogers 2.2.1
2.6.32.9 - perf
14896
I managed to root the phone and I have Superuser working. Phone is unlocked via an eBay code. I own the ROM Manager Premium app.
I read the forums, I read the famous PDF however Im unsure and worried. I just installed MRF even tho I have fastboot installed as well, the .img file and the Pkg file renamed as Update on my SD card.
Please advise me what is the next logical step? Ideally I wish to use ROM Manager and install streakdroid 1.90 given the reviews.
Your help will be very much appreciated.
Alex
Please help anyone

The info you need is already out there. You need to search/research more.
Some starters:
ROM Manager does not work well with the Streak judging from other posts on the subject. No personal experience here, just based on what I have read.
Radimus’s Universal Guide to Flashing a ROM
Dell Streak – The Complete Guide – thread at XDA that includes a somewhat dated (was written when the Streak was running Android 1.6) PDF with Streak hacking basics. Read the thread for follow-up!
and try the links in my signature.
Thanks for the feedback Marvin I will look into it more carefully! I think its just me at this point waiting to make the next step. I remember reading some of your links before, I willread the very carefully!
Can I just load a Rom from my sd card without recovery first? That is the question.

You have to have a recovery on the phone that matches the ROM if you are installing from recovery. If the rom you want to install is in the upgrade path for your phone you can DL it to your phone over wifi, tap on the DL notice and it will install that way. Stock roms (.pkg files) need a stock recovery, install custom roms (.zip) with StreakMod Recovery
You can use fastboot to flash pieces of the OS (baseband, etc) but the best way if you want a particular baseband is to install the entire stock rom with that baseband and then install whatever custom rom on top of that.
As always, make backups and you are responsible for what happens to your phone.
Thank you very much for your help! I'm confident I will be successful now!

I could follow his steps but I wanna know that can i flash ginger streak 2.4.4 directly from 2.2.2..? thanks..
If you follow DJ Steve's instructions to the letter, you'll successfully have StreakDroid on your Streak regardless of what ROM you come from. Why did you think you had to flash the Olleh ROM first?

Oh thank you dude;-) but in that table why he mentioned android version 2.3.3 buddy..? Thanks buddy..
The first release of gingerbread for the streak was gingerstreak 2.3. Then DJSteve came out with gingerstreak 2.4 and several bug fix releases later we ended up with gingerstreak 2.4.4. All of these are based off of Android 2.3.3. Make sense now?

YOU MUST FLASH THE BELOW BASEBAND AND DSP1 IMAGES TO ALLOW THIS BUILD TO WORK CORRECTLY!!
Quick How to for flashing the above files - assuming you already have fastboot setup and configures on your pc.
1. reboot your streak and hold the camera button down until you get a white screen, then hit the fastboot option in the top left corner.
2. connect to pc and wait for streak to show FASTBOOT_MODE
3. run the following commands to flash the baseband and dsp1 then reboot
Code:
fastboot -i 0x413c flash amss amss.mbn
fastboot -i 0x413c flash dsp1 dsp1.mbn
fastboot -i 0x413c reboot
I fail to do this step so please guide me guys..
I reached fast boot mode in streak but dont know how to run those two comments from fastboot mode.. so help guys..
There are download links for the stock version of Gingerbread in the opening post of this thread. Also detailed flashing instructions. I also recommend that GB ROM.

[Q] my streak freeze if overclock pass 998!!

Hello guys
I have StreakDroid GingerStreak 2.4.4 by DJ_Steve installed on my streak 5. I'm trying to OC my streak pass stock speed which is 998MHz but anything pass stock frequency makes my streak 5 freeze.
first I used voltage control to OC my cpu but when my streak started to freeze I uninstalled it and tried to OC using ROM toolbox. however that didn't work either and my streak froze again.
The thing is I used an app called Stability Test and ran it for 3 hours and I had no problem, no freezing or crashes or reboots. however after i stopped using my phone for an hour and then tried to go into the web my phone froze.
now I know that every CPU OC differently but is it possible that I have the worst luck in the world and got a CPU that doesn't OC at all?!! or is it just a matter of trying a different kernel?
if so what kernel do you guys recommend for GingerStreak 2.4.4?
thanks
First off, I would recommend ditching Gingerstreak 2.4.4 and go with either DSC, CM7, or one of the MIUI builds. Gingerstreak is old and no longer being developed. The others I listed all benefit from _n0p_'s Phoenix kernel. DSC has it as part of the rom and its available to flash on either CM7 or MIUI.

thanks for your help. I'll try one of these ROMs right now.
just one more thing what does DSC and MIUI stands for?
I know the CyanogenMod but what are the other two? and which one do you recommend the most?
thank you again
I would recommend DSC over the other two. Its the most highly developed and its creator, _n0p_, a genius. I am running CM7 because I like to tinker with my phone and ROM.

DSC = Dell Streak Club
MIUI = Mobile Internet User Interface
I second lordmorphous in recommending DSC.

After root*

Hey guyz...
I just rooted my s5 2.3.3 407 olleh rom
Now I am wondering what all I can do with it...
Can any1 suggest me some nice tweaks or apps..
Also can any one tell me how can I overclock... Cuz setcpu has the highest limit to 998 ........ How can it be 1500 or something like that

Root is the most powerful aspect to being able to get the most from any device.
It unlocks access to the root of the filesystem, so you can change almost anything. Also root is essential to get more functionality from your device, a lot of software requires root access to work.
In your case, try a new kernel, i am sure you will be able to overclock using Pheonix kernel for example.
To be honest, why not install a custom rom?
Everything is done for you, and kept up to date with bug fixes.
If you like the rom you have, my recommendation is the DSC rom as it is an excellent rom.

M planning to flash dsc on my stock rom
With stock kernel
Will my fone b able to overclock then or I still have to flash different kernel.?
Sent from my Dell Streak using xda premium
If you want to be able to overclock and undervolt the processor, you need to install the Phoenix kernel as the stock Gingerbread kernel does not support either operation. You WANT to install the Phoenix kernel anyway as it has fixes above and beyond overclocking that aren't found in the 407 kernel. If you're coming from Froyo (Android 2.2.x), you cannot use a Froyo kernel with a Gingerbread (Android 2.3.x) ROM, unless of course you want to render the device unusable until corrected.
I had stock froyo
Then I updated my rom to official olleh one...without changing the kernel
Nd its working cool

When you change ROMs using official Dell packages, all the components are supposed to be updated to match the ROM. This is to minimize incompatibility. Therefore, when you upgraded to 407, the baseband, recovery, and the kernel should have been upgraded at the same time as the ROM itself.
In this case, you happen to be one of those for whom the kernel wasn't upgraded. And while the Froyo kernel on Gingerbread seems to work, the combination cannot be as stable or as functional as having a Gingerbread kernel with a Gingerbread ROM. The point however should be moot now as you've installed either DSC or Traveller DSC, both of which have the Phoenix kernel.
yeah now my streak has dsc
with pheonix kernel

I am still learning here, a newbie. Please apologize me for my lack of knowledge.
When I first started, I read quite a number of forum until I got quite confused, but has opted a choice. After numerous attempt, I managed to flash my DS5 with Longhorn 2.9.3 using CWM. What I found out was my Baseband(BB is what they call it, am I correct?) was still 347, which later I read somewhere here, I need to have BB407 instead. Was struggling to get 407 installed, but finally manage a solution.
But I still have not really understood what refers to a Kernal, and a Baseband. What they use for, etc...
Can someone please help to explain. Thanks.
My DS5 About phone look like this now. I am wondering if the part, second from below on the picture, is a problem = "MOD VERSION : UNKNOWN:
Can anyone comment on that? Thanks.
And also, I still can't overclock my DS5 using this ROM, max still at 998. I have tried SetCPU and Antutu CPU Master, and I read many forums to find out how, but none seems to work. Have I missed a step on installation or...? Can anyone help on this? Thanks.
BTW, I might decide to try DSCv2.3 (perhaps starts off with DSCv1.0, before upgrading) or Streak MIUI 2.4.20.
Any advice on those? Thanks.
XDA Developers - Kernel & Baseband Difference
The search engine is your friend. Learn how to use it please. In the meantime, I recommend either DSC or Traveller DSC. Read the instructions in the first posts of each thread and you should be good.
Thanks you for the encouragement, suggestions and instruction.
use dsc 2.3
it has rooted rom with phoenix kernel wilhich would allow you to overclock your device using any app
