[HOWTO] Nookie Froyo for EMMC ***Very fast!*** - Nook Color Android Development

Here is a set of images to get you Froyo on EMMC. Just DD the following images to their respective locations.
dd if=boot.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk1p1 ***in nooter***
dd if=system.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk1p5 ***in nooter***
dd if=boot.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p1 ***in recovery***
dd if=system.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p5 ***in recovery***
I recommend using nooter .02 with ssh as this has been verified to work correctly.
If you end up with a bootloop try wiping /data with "rm -r *", if this does not work restore back to stock prior to dd'ing these images.

http://serversave.us/android/boot.rar
http://serversave.us/android/data.rar ***not needed for functionality, if you get boot loops you might try and dd this image to your data partition...***
http://serversave.us/android/system.img.tar.gz
If you need to recover check out these threads to get you back to stock:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=914690
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=919353

Thanks for the dd images, i think they are the only full proof way to install. what kernel are you running in the boot.img ?

Could a mod sticky this? It certainly seems the easiest way to install froyo yet!

Cool beans
I think im gonna try this out...
P.s. will you make more images as new versions come out?
Also is anything, like the market pre-installed?

does the image have the correct vold.fstab as per your manual guide, i can't get sdcard to mount??

Will this work on windows?
Is it required to have adb working? I had it working on linux before but for some reason it doesn't work anymore
Also would like to know if it comes with gaaps installed.

gApps please

It would be great if gApps was included, along with busybox, spareparts, and superuser.
Also interested in a way to do this from Windows.
Thanks

Oh man is Rapid share getting bad. First download had a 1 minute delay before the download started and the second one had a 7 minute delay before download started.

How often this gets updated depends on interest from other users... as of right now this baby is bare bones. I might do up a fully loaded image later today with gapps etc. Stay tuned!

Don't know. Hang on a minute, I'll check.
Don't know why but de-odexer failed to de-odex it. I'm running a de-odexed rom so I can't test it now.
Thanks narco, but it didn't install. I took the apk out of the rar file you posted and tried to install that. No joy.
I really thought this was the right forum. I saw someone get yelled at in the Dev forum for posting app requests.
Don't know anything about de-odex so can't say why your file didn't work. I really like the ROM I'm using except for a few little ommissions like this. I wouldn't mind the file manager from the stock rom either if you have it. I hate these ad-supported ones in the market. I know I should support the developers and buy something, but these are things we got for free with our phones. I just want some of that free goodness.
Thanks again.

No worries. Coincidentally, I happened to de-odex that file since my last post. So here is the de-odexed version that I have running perfectly on Froyo. And since you need it I'll attach a de-odexed copy of the file manager as well.

narco, what am I doing wrong? I downloaded the rar files you posted and extracted the apk file. I moved the apk files to my internal SD card, then used a version of "Root Explorer" to launch the installer on these files. I get a message that says they weren't installed. No other helpful information as to why.
Is there some other method of getting these files to install?

Yes there is.
First you need to install the SDK.
Then plug your phone into your computer, enable USB debugging, open a command prompt on your computer, navigate to the folder where your apk resides and enter the following commands:
Code:
C:\Phone Hacking\Vibrant>adb root
restarting adbd as root
C:\Phone Hacking\Vibrant>adb shell mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/st19 /system
C:\Phone Hacking\Vibrant>adb push VoiceRecorder.apk /system/app/
C:\Phone Hacking\Vibrant>adb reboot
Okay, I think I got it. I installed the sdk and tried the whole adb thing, but it said I couldn't go into adb root on production builds, then it occurred to me that all you were trying to do was move the apk file into the /system/app folder which can only be accessed by root.
I already had Root Explorer, which I used to move the apk file and it worked. Thanks for posting the files and your help. I've been wondering what I could do with ADB. I messed around with the usb drivers for a while but ended up getting adb to work via the wirelessadb app that was included in the Onyx rom.
Learning something new everyday.
Thanks again.

The reason you got an error about adb not switching to root mode is that you are running a production kernel. You might consider changing to a custom kernel. You can run a rooted kernel along with your current rom.
I would suggest one of Eugene's custom kernels. I currently run A4 but there is a new A5 out that I will switch to later tonight.
If you can't figure out how to install it send me another message. I'll be glad to help.
Edit: Just updated to A5. Runs Great! Super fast awesomeness!

Try this, from Bionix final.Copy to root and use root explorer to copy to system/app.
This is my first week with rooting/flashing. My primary reason for going this route has been to get some froyo goodness and extend my battery life. I have been reading that the stock kernel is the best way to get the most battery life. What do the custom kernels get you? I've stayed away from the lag fixes as well for the same reason.
Thanks for being so helpful.

Battery meter 1.9

I have just cooked one file today for 1.9. The file needed editing after cooking in UOT and hence taking a long time.
I expect this to work for all.
The file needs to be flashed in clockworkmod or streak recovery.
If something goes wrong just flash update 1.9 and you should get things working back.
I will try to cook more this weekend based on user feedback
. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=60PYFTZM
New addition 3/23/11
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=6QM0PWD3
Modified framework.res
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=4TI7W0E1
Disclaimer : This could well be the last flash ur streak might have and hence do things at ur own risk
I've tried flashing this twice now and absolutely nothing happens. It does not change the battery meter to that pictured and nor does it break the phone and cause boot loops like failed attempts have in the past.
It flashed really quickly. I might try downloading it again later, maybe the download was corrupt?
It's using the new style update script, are you using streakmod? it doesnt work with the new style script.
You're either gonna need to repackage it with an old style update script or you'll need to flash with clockwork mod (or manually)
Hey mate, how did you get the framework.apk smaller in size to use on the UOT?
Tried with clock-mod no-go
also says install from Sd card complete, but no battery change.
thank you
streakmod recovery
Worked fine for me bro thanks

ALWAYS do a backup when installing files for framework or system or anything that messes with the ROM. And most likely it will over-write the panels considering that when you install nightlies or the beta it installs the sytem-ui, framework and all that good stuff

Porting ROMs from other devices?

I asked this over in Android General and I was pointed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1598713
Could anyone confirm if this would allow porting of a ROM like HTC Sense to the Xperia?
I posted this here as I reckon that if it is indeed possible, it could be of some use to the dev community in here. If not, mods can delete this
Our phone only has 480mb internal storage.
HTC Sense is well over 1gb just for the ROM.
Sent from R800x
that's wron
a normal sense 4.0a rom needs 420mb system partition
our is only 300mb.
so we need to decrease the zip (remove apps) and move some apps to /data in zip.
then symlink /data
and then we can go porting it
I would use a Sense 4 rom , I'm going to mess around later lol.

I know what the error is. I need to jump into Linux to unpack the kernel and edit the init.rc file (Only possible on Linux).
Going to flash back to MIUI temporarily to move the files onto my SD card to shift them onto Linux. Going to do that a bit later on as Im going to be a bit busy. If I get anything working I'll PM you and Dropbox the ROM for you to try If all comes back working, I'll release it to the general users

The last Rom I built was a froyo hybrid sense 2/ sense 3 rom for the glacier, and it was nowhere near this frustrating... Even when trying to create it from ota like this one...

I got it booting, just had to use the modules and the boot.IMG from the vm ics Rom... As for the data/app, did you add the functionality to the Rom so it knows to look in that folder for apps?
