[Q] How to write "capacity" without stopping Update? - Defy Themes and Apps

Hey Folks.
I'm just a beginner for Android, but have some expirience with several PC-Programming languages. Hopefully this is the right place for this Question?
The first thing I'd like to do sounds simple, but there is a point where I'm not able to find a solution.
The Quest:
I'd like to have 1%steps in akku-display. on my DEFY
What I' found until now:
There are 2 Files containing the Information!
/sys/devices/platform/cpcap_battery/power_supply/battery/capacity
there is a symlink to that file
/sys/class/power_supply/battery/capacity
and the file can be found on two furthermore places:
/d/battery
/sys/kernel/debug/battery
at the same locations there is a second file : charge_counter
This is also with the named other directorys.
The file "charge_counter" contains the 1%step-value for the akku-level!
The file "capacity" contains the 10%step-value which is displayed by all the Widgeds and tools
The files in /sys/devices and /sys/class can't be changed. Even with 777 they resist any write-atempt
The files in /d/battery and /sys/kernel/debug/battery CAN changed they are 666 by default.
So the idea was just to copy the content from "charge_counter" to "capacity" if "charge_counter" change its value.
at first it seems to work! Every Value I wrote to "capacity" is present with the whole System! It changes the value in every presence of "capacity" I found. Also It changes the Batt-Widgets content, the status-bar-symbol and so on.
BUT
The Problem:
Once changed the value in "capacity" the phone doesn'd update "charge_counter" any more. Also "voltage" an some other Values in that directory will stop showing the real state!
So once I copied the value it will shown fine and than never change again until reboot.
Question: HOW can I avoid stopping the Update?
Sorry for typo ... english is not the language I usaly speak
any ideas?

This should be in the development thread. Not many have their eye on this section.
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App

Sounds good... post in development. If we have 1% step values, must be a way to be show.

I think I can't ... hav not enough Posts here until now! Maybe someone else may post it?
"bitboy0, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:"

Leave it in this forum for now. It's related to Apps from what I understand.
Also, you won't be able to post in the Dev sections until you have 10 posts

Yes, I knew that 10-posts-thing as I red the stickys
Until now I tried to solve the "problem" without Java ... just using "Tasker" and the locale-execute-plugin ...
But I think It would be more effektive to handle that using Java? ...

It makes me sad to know: here the pro's doesn't read ...
Where the pro's are I can't write.

Excellent question!

Here you go a new thread has been create to see if someone will take on hacking the Defy to get 1% increment
See here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=11295128

Do you think that can help ?
http://grepcode.com/file/repository...2_r1.1/com/android/server/BatteryService.java

I don't think this all is needed. I am almost sure, that it's just about editing battery stats (and maybe some others) xml's and png's in framework-res.apk. Nothing more.
edit: And maybe something in services.jar. I had it changed on X10 mini.

Battery Monitor Widget now supports Motorola Defy
Hello,
Just to let you know support for the Defy has been added in BMW (which can be download from Market).
You can follow the app thread here.
Can someone test it and let me know if it works ok, not having a Defy makes it hard for testing
By the way Defy supports need to be activated in settings / monitoring settings!

Works perfectly. Wondering if it depletes more battery.

Good question! As I don't have a Defy can't say... Last week I checked consumption and found it as low as 0.05% CPU consumption on both a HD2 and Samsung Galaxy S!
Yesterday test results are attached, logging and refreshing every minute, screen on with mA in notification bar and didn't start the UI, just monitoring.
Will add more test result (screen-off, etc) in the app thread
Nevertheless on the Defy, the app will get % from a file (instead of event-based) and will also compute mA estimates, so it will definitely consume a little more...
Maybe you could run some tests comparison with or without activating the support?
EDIT:
Removed any comparison with other app

Of The People, By The People

my time with the gene is heading towards its end and i'd like to go out with a bang!!
i created this thread to give something back to this wonderful community for all the help and guidance that has been offered to me so far
i've kept the next post as sort of a checklist for new (and experienced) chefs for the stuff that they should include in their ROMs and also a list of things that our users request (based on popularity)
i'll also try and provide little descriptions wherever possible
so i'd like all those here to write down the features/apps/requests/tweaks whatever it is that you have used in your previous/current ROMS that you've liked
i'll go through the posts and add newer items into the list as time goes on
this will serve as a good place for the senior chefs here to contribute bits of their knowledge and as a quick reference index for new or aspiring chefs for things they should be considering while making their own ROMs
so here's a list of things a cook oughta look up while making a ROM
i've grouped the things up into separate catgories like
1] OEM
this group requires comparatively less editing on the chef's part so i figured it best to get it out of the way first
i - the initflashfiles.dat files can be edited to make changes in the default directory locations, file names and shortcut links
ii - i remember having changed the CameraDriver.dll module while trying to get my camera working, so chefs may want to look around for that one
iii - same goes for the sdbus.dll and sdmemory.dll, some of the older SYS builds need these modules to be patched else the sd card is not detected by the phone
iv - for those adding their own CABs or any other files for customization on first boot should make sure that their Config.txt file is edited as per their needs
kitchen crashes sometimes set the contents of this file to default thereby voiding the changes made by the chef
v - edit the mxipupdate_OEMVERSION_100.provxml to add in custom ROM name and date
2] SYS
i - firstly go through all the packages and remove unnecessary items to save some important space on our little GENES
look here for more info
ii - feel free to customize the graphics files in the dpi and dpi res folders
nothing says custom ROM more than custom graphics
iii - for more advance users, you can edit the graphics within the .DLL files in some of the files in the SYS folder
modules may also be recmodded to flat .DLL files to edit and then reversemodded to modules again
iv - various system files can be recmodded to reduce the number of modules in slot 0
here's the reason why
i'll place a link up when i find it
v - some of the files can be replaced to improve the functionality
3] EXT
here's another place for some really deep customization for the chef
instead of writing down every single software package that is available i'm making a list of the must-have softwares that work well on our devices
i'll be starting off with a list of my preferred apps and i'll be adding more apps as the user suggestions come in
i - a registry editing software like PHMRegistry
ii - PPCPimBackup
iii - S2P 0.83 by far the best FREE music player around
you could alternatively use older version like the 0.58 version which had the cover flow feature and a different method of creating the playlist
iv - XDA_UC, simply because it reduces the workload on the user post flash/hard reset and pitches in great for when the chef wants some post-boot customizations to be carried out
v - pocketnester, NES ROMs may not be everyone's cup of tea but it sure as hell provides some endless time-wasting fun
reserved...just in case
Lets work on overclocking our CPU.currently iv been using "omap" to overclock my device to 240Mhz.
Worst part is,just as the device goes to sleep mode,or a manual shut down/restart,the clock speed reduces back to the default 186Mhz.
We either need to edit the Omap executable file or write some code to make it work continuous till the device is active.
If we succeed in this, we'll have ROMs rolled out with default 240Mhz clocking speed as a gift to Gene n the Gene users.
n r u shiftin to a newer device ? which one r u gonnu buy.do let us know.i'll probably shifting to Samsung Galaxy S2. dont wannu wait for the HtC Pyramid.i want the Super AmoLED plus screen in my hands.
I'll need shtdown animation. For overclocking pocket hack master is best(If you have money to purchase it!!!!).
To Karan999:Why don't you switching to HTC HD 2? Plz tell me bcoz i'm also going to buy HD 2 next week.

Ya man but it will work with psshutxp but i'm using shutxp not psshutxp (i don't know if there is any difference or not),but it replaces poweroffwarning.exe from windows folder.HTC Animation uses poweroffwarning.exe from PACKAGE_POWEROFFWARNING.I want someone to edit this exe to make it working for HTC Animation
To psychocyst:HTC sense feel on GENE will be expected.I knows that it's impossible to use it on GENE but any other UI that looks like Sense UI
Hi Karan,
Use Omap-264. This has all the advantages u require. It will keep in 264 even after softreset; It will keep in 264 even after power on.

Below 264 is fine. Want to change the clock lower? run omap_OverClock from the startmenu/programs folder. I run it at 216 MHz always. No problem.

Yes. Overclocking is always dangerous. But if u use it judiciously it works wonders. I have not seen any appreciable drain in battery life. I used to get almost 2 days previously. now also i am getting the same amount. May be a couple of hours less. It increases the ram speed correspondingly.
thanks for the heads-up...i'll give it a go and check out the results and post them up
Incoming calls not being displayed
I'm new to this flashing rom and stuff like this, but with ALL my help from this site(thanks to everybody) I had successfully upgraded my rom to Karanz_ULTIMATE v7.12 on my new gene.
But coming to the main point, the MAIN reason for flashing my rom was that i had issues with my stock rom of incoming calls not being displayed(although the ring could be heard to the call on the other end) occasionally. This issue had landed me into some HUGE trouble which scares the crap out of me even today. After a few days of using this newly installed rom the issue surfaced again and now I'm afraid to use this phone any more.
I know for sure there are great GODS in this forum who can solve issues like these in a breeze, so I humbly submit my heartfelt request to please advise a solution. ANYBODY PLEASE for God's sake help me out. PLEASE...
Additional information about my Phone:
onbl 1.17.0000
spl 1.07.0ref
gsm 02.79.90
os 1.17.0.0
Any more info anybody needs, I shall give(provided you tell me where to find it).

FAQ
-Why?
-I know that there is QtADB, but I have two main reasons for finishing this project: 1. competition - it always helps to reach a better quality of app and users have more apps to choose from. 2. Improving programming skills.
-It looks similar to QtADB!
-I've never downloaded QtADB, I've seen it only on screenshots. What's more, I'm focusing on functionality, not appearance.
-When it will be done?
-I don't know yet, it depends on functions you want to see.
I'm opened for any ideas about functionality! I won't be available for a couple days in the nearest future, so please leave ideas here.. I'll read it later.

Hi, nice work.
Hello, I've decided to release alpha version... You can see how it's working. Check post no. 3 for link.
When app is not detecting your device - unplug and plug it again, wait about 1-2 min and then connect to the device.
Ok, testing It...First thing...looks really good....
Suggestions: the middle area doesnt show folders, i think you should show the folders also there...my suggestion...
cant open files from mobile...maybe you also know it..or is it not implemented yet ?
OK...i had waited for 2-3 mins, now it is taking too much time for opening apps folder...
all these are my review..i'll try out properly tomorrow and give a detail feedback
Really great work...

Mhm, I need to improve function that is parsing adb result of the files list.. It's hard thing - in the first version it took about 10 min . I'll try to figure out other algorythm.

I've just found some bugs with DragAndDrop (like dropping itmes on specifed folder wasn't working). I've solved it, but I won't update link, I'll do it when some other features will be added.
@Dharam list of folders in the middle panel is implemented so folders are shown in the middle panel
@First link updated, nevermind.
subscribed..
Looks really nice and promising, I'm definitely following this one
But as dharam said, the waiting time is really to long for now, I hope you can fix this!
Hey, I've found bug... I don't know why, but it's not a fault of parsing... I've noticed that that it is a fault of adb.. I've no idea why the returning of the result of "adb shell ls -l /system/app" command takes so long time... Espiecially, that other paths works fine..
I need to figure out why.

Words from CM7/MIUI's developers/ How to Use English version of MIUI

I don't know it's a right place to write down this kind of thread. But it contains a contents about ROM so... I think this Forum is right place.
Okay Let's starts it.
Here are some informations and news about CM7 and MIUI for streak.
First I'm not good at English so some sentences were broke and I don't know I can write down what I want to said.
When I find that both ROMs were on xda, I announce it to hPa, developer who ports CM7/MIUI for streak and HeffyEnd who translate MIUI into Korean and add some patches.
they posted some article at Korea's dell streak user community and HeffyEnd show a way to use the MIUI into English. HeffyEnd tries to write about that at xda but he didn't write a post or thread at xda yet so I posts it.
First, hPa says he will upload and posts some informations and datas at xda's Streak Forum.
He says he will upload data about CM7 and MIUI's development and also how to change Streak's frame late into 55Hz. He will comes to this forum so if someone want to ask something, ask to him.
and he also say he didn't know how exactly he active a 2.4Ghz at Streak. He didn't tries to fool the developers and users, he didn't know the what's the problem of this fake clock(or useless 2.4Ghz… well I don't know to what to call this happening) problem so he just guesses about it.
He says his CM7 uses different clock rule after 988MHz, so He guesses the two tables which able to over clock to 1.4Ghz and 2.4Ghz are actually shows the same result without clock rate they show it.
and Korean user Deltaman tries a test on CM7 and figure our that the effect of over clock decrease after 1267Mhz. Aututu score increased when he increase the clock after 1267Mhz but effect was decrease. and result of 1806/2208/2476MHz is almost same(3216/3352/3351 point).
I say once again. "He didn't tried to fool others. It just a accident or something like that."
by the way, He hopes that xda's developers will make improve versions bases of his develop result. Yes, he hopes it.
Second, HeffyEnd says that there is a way to use the English version of MIUI.
There is a two MIUI rom. One is released by hPa and the other one is translated and modified by HeffyEnd. At the xda's link, I think It's the HeffyEnds.
HeffyEnds rom is optimized to Korean not for other country's so it's hard to use it outside Korea so use the hPa's MIUI instead.
http://www.mediafire.com/?y16376w3a8shlwi
At this link, you can download a original hPa's MIUI. Download this ROM and modify it's build.prop file.
When you open the build.prop file, you can see the text like below
ro.product.locale.language=ko
ro.product.locale.region=KR
change ko and KR into en and EN so both line will change like these
ro.product.locale.language=en
ro.product.locale.region=EN
save it and install it. HeffyEnd says to use this way, you can use the English version of MIUI.
by the way, this ROM is customized to Korean's phone number system so… It doesn't fit to other country's one. I mean some phone number at address book could be looks odd.
and I need to add some information about MIUI.
This MIUI ROM needs some times to stable after installation. After you install and reboot it. Do not touch streak about 5~10min to Rom will takes stable. I recommend 15min for safety.
If you uses phone without this rest time or try to use too fast, This rom show some errors. When I tried to use little bit hurry, I failed to add my google account at MIUI. So I reinstalled it and take a 15mins breaks, It works fine.
There is a more things you need to before you uses MIUI.
- Goes setting->My Location->Automatic Assisted GPS to OFF. If you don't do it. GPS didn't works well.
- Run superuser application and turn off the root. push the setting button on streak to call a menu and select a setting. At there you see the Root permission control, Turn off and turn it on again. After that, reboot.
- At the home screen, push device's menu button -> goes to home setting -> turn off and on the high quality and shadow.
and finally, I don't exactly know about that, MIUI has a problem when you using the titanium backup's full recovery mode(data and apps), So don't use it or partly recover what you needs. In my opinion, I recommend you to re setting datas manually.
In contrast, MIUI recovery works fine.
and last... I want to say about other ROM develop tries at Korea. I don't know those developer like to announce it but this is a common information at Korea so it thinks it doesn't make an problem.
- Three developers were tries to make a CM9. They has a their own version of CM9 test rom. I don't know now they uses hPa's data but they were trying to make it.
- The other ROM developer calls lonkey12 ,who makes a ROM calls LICS MOD(It does not released on XDA), tries to port CM7. It's the different to hPa's try. There is a some rumor that he tries to port CM9, but I failed to check it's true.
- There is a one more developer tries to develop custom ROM for Streak. NeCoritol who makes a NeCoroiD ROM(You can see his name and his rom at xda wiki but not uploaded here) tries somethings. I don't know what exactly he makes but he tries something.
[Add]
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1536752
hPa write a thread. At there you can check the english version of MIUI.
and... sorry about post this thread at wrong forum. I thinks it's the suitable place but result is not.
Sorry about that.
Thanks for the info. It's breathing new life to the streak!
Sent from my Dell Streak using Tapatalk
WOW! Thank you so much dear! its really nice to see working and stable miui rom on my streak! we can use this for daily use
yes, and u also can change any other values in BP (e.g. DPI, heapsize, etc) - preflash
Hey! How great is this? Would someone be kind to post pictures of the MIUI rom and provide us with their user experience with it?
Ive been on the CM7 rom, and can say its the best rom available.. though the battery drain is worse but i dont use my streak as a phone.

- There is a one more developer tries to develop custom ROM for Streak. NeCoritol who makes a NeCoroiD ROM(You can see his name and his rom at xda wiki but not uploaded here) tries somethings. I don't know what exactly he makes but he tries something.

mdnie directory in Galaxy SII ICS 4.0

Hi, does anyone know where is the mdnie files located in the new ICS 4.0? I'm using the stock ICS 4.0 rom for Galaxy SII and cant seem to find it anywhere.
The old GB 2.3 mdnie was located under system/etc but the ICS one seems to have move it somewhere else. Would appreciate if anyone could enlighten me
I would also like to know that!
spent hours searching the directory one by one but still cant find it The only thing i came over was outdoor or negative etc stuff like that......

Has anybody found it yet?
Or at least the control devices?
I've been looking at the ICS source code, and I think I see what happened. They moved the files into the driver itself. However, they also added a facility for loading a custom file. From the source code, somewhere (maybe /dev/class/mdnie? I am not sure--I don't actually have an ICS device myself) there should be a control file named "tunning" (yes, "nn"!). I *think* it works as follows:
If you write a filename to it (i.e., "echo filename > tunning"), it should load the tuning data from /sdcard/mdnie/filename
If you write 1 to it, it should activates the tuning data
If you write 0 to it, it should deactivates the tuning data
A quick test might be to load tuning data that turns the colors red. Hypothetically, the "red.txt" file I attached might work. Use at your own risk if you want to try it. Don't blame me if it gets stuck, destroys your screen, whatever. Since I don't have ICS, I haven't done this myself. Plus I don't know where exactly the "tunning" file is. But it looks pretty straightforward.
The reason I am interested in this is that I am making a night vision app for mdnie-supporting phones. So far it works on my phone under GB, and I don't have ICS.

update beta2 release(app) FLIPBOARD (official beta)

Found this application which was once only on i-application(iphone) working fine on our touchpad and yes it also plays good on my LG optimus one too. It is like google currents but a little different in work around. Enjoy the port.
Here is the app
Press thanks if I helped.........
no offense but I'm pretty sure i've seen this posted somewhere else..u might wanna give credit to the original poster who yanked this from the sg III launch event..

yes you are right but most of the posts and topics look nice, neat and clean.
and I think something is still better than nothing....
what do you say?
compared to the browser....you'd have to argue the need for this, it was designed for the phone (GS3) and all that's been done is ported from there. If they developer made a bespoke tablet version then it'd be nice. but hey, thats my beef with ICS at the moment, many apps are stretched and look wrong
I like it alot.... Thanks for sharing,I hadn't seen the other thread so glad to have the app on my og evo and touchpad
Sent from my cm_tenderloin using Tapatalk 2
Thanks

Someone was working on a version where they adjusted the fonts to make them look better on a tablet but I never saw the actual package posted.

I was working on it.... Never got it right, as it appears I was only able to change the UI fonts. The article fonts themselves appear to be set remotely and just displayed locally. So it didn't even fix the biggest issue with the fonts which is in the articles themselves. It only fixed the UI and header fonts. I was going to post the APK anyway, but I found a force close error when trying to add new feeds, so that made things not so nice. Add to that the fact that for some reason, the APK wasn't installable unless I re-signed it, that makes it difficult to switch between versions without uninstalling/reinstalling, I decided not to post the modified APK.
If a developer type wants, I can send the modified APK directly. I'm not going to post it here because it's A) not stable and B) didn't achieve the intended purpose anyway, and C) I don't want to have to support something that's broken/unfinished.
Anyone that knows how to decompile/recompile an APK can do the same thing I did. All I did was reduce the font sizes in the XML layout and values files. As I said though, that didn't have any effect on the actual article content, which appeared to be defined remotely.
