More themes for Nero than Axura? - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is it just me or there are fewer themes for Axura than there are for Nero ROMs. If thats true, are more developers using Nero and hence like to develop themes for Nero?
*** Sent from my Samsing Vibrant (Nero V5) using xda app

moot point, Nero is old and done with. Enter Bionix-v which will yes, have a lot of themes for it.
Axura has fewer... its not the # but the quality. The guys who I really enjoy are currently/will be doing both.

The guys who do both generally know what they are doing more than the people who only do one platform. Changing images is one thing, delving into the xml which varies between the two roms is something entirely different that requires more knowledge than just generally knowing where the images are located.

I agree, but want to point out there are some who only do one who are very talented/appreciated. They may just prefer one over the other and I dont think that should take away from their perceived skill.

[Q] M - Flagship V3 versus Bionix-V!! Who wins?

Both extremely stable and fast ROMS. Little no zero lag. Great Developers. What are your thoughts about the both?
i prefer m flagship v3 because it looks better in my opinion. i've used them both and they both function the same.
Flagship. I honestly haven't used Bionix-V yet. I do love TW's work, but I have been more than content with flagship and can say its going to take something big to get me to go elsewhere.

While I am honored to get a couple votes in the Flagship corner - I would not, and will not be hurt if the votes go against Flagship or EDT. Tw is a top notch development group. It is because of their quality of work that the rest of us have to work so hard to deliver roms that remain on the first page for longer than a day. Without them, without Master, Eugene, the lone rom-ers, the quality of the roms here would be sub-standard. It is the spirit of competition that drives innovation on the development of these roms.
The ones who win are all of us vibrant owners. Thanks to all the great choices we have we can use one rom one day and another rom another day and be confident that we will have a fast and stable phone.

having used both ROMs I will say its a tough choice. While both are very stable and fast theere are just a few cosmetic issues within Flagship that made me choose Bionix. Nothing major just a few little things. I would recommend both o anyone.
Both roms perform about the same so it's all about the looks. Flagship wins by a mile. And you cannot beat team einherjar's support on their roms. If you follow any of their roms, you will see continuous dev support and sometimes they even take requests. That means a lot.

LOL - Thanks!
I was hoping to be the first to answer the OP's query with "VIBRANT OWNERS" but I see someone beat me to it.
THANK YOU TO ALL OF OUR WONDERFUL DEVELOPERS. You guys have made OUR version of the Galaxy line the best in my opinion. Lets not forget our amazing themers too (whitehawk, tonic_acid, samcrow, etc).
big fan of both, but i've been running flagship v3 for the past few days and it really looks amazing. the animations and menus are really gorgeous and the rom runs smooth like butter. love it.

[Q] Theme Suggestions

I would like to get into developing themes and have all the necessary know and tools. I am just having some trouble coming up with ideas. So here I am, suggestions?
You mean like a guide on how to theme?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=916814
No, I've got that down, i'm more looking for a concept to build on, like how we have black froyo and what not, im looking for suggestions on what kind of theme to make. but thank you for your response
Professional, clean lines/sharp, color choices that are easy on the eye, easily readable.. something that looks more professional/modern.
black/slate blue/gray
OK sorry about that. Thought you were talking about something else.
If I were to do a theme Id like to do something centered around engine block orange With transparency's
Windows 3.1 had a color theme called "Hot Dog Stand."
I would love to see that ported to the vibrant.

Alright, well the past 2 posts sound nothing like what I was talking about.... maybe clean/sharp/professional is not what the masses want.

I think i will most likely do the clean sharp and professional just cuz we need something to show other people who get phones for work to show them that these are just not toys. I do like the idea of a engine/car inspired theme tho that one is going to take alot of creativity to do. I will probably start with a clean and professional one. See what it turns into and use that to help me solidify my skill set. I know most people nowadays are using either tw d4a or eijenhar and i think most of the key roms are KA7 based.
Aren't most of these roms based off the deodexed voodoo ka7 kernel? if so thats what i will likely start themeing for.

There is a new leak, doubtful you will ever be able to keep up (not a hit on you, just moves fast)....
KA7 and the voodoo kernel is money though. I am wanting to try Eugenes new kernel, but have not yet.. sounds like he has really improved the battery. Currently running Flagship V3 with no plans to switch, best rom I have used to date.
Glad to hear you are taking the clean route!

Bionix vs. axura

I've been running bionix for quite some time, but I've been seeing alot of posts for axura. Tws' roms have never failed me in the past, and they are always very informative. I've done a little research on axura but I wanted to get the communities input on what the differences are. Not which one is "better" cuz that is purely user preference...unless I'm missing something.
Thank you in advance!

try them both out.....experience is different for every user, because every user wants/expects/does/uses/needs different things. axura is personally what i use. would i recommend it? absolutely. would i say its better for you than bionix? maybe, maybe not.
I Love Axura! Its a great rom
Trial and Error... just flash MANY roms and decide what you like,
I prefer Axura for purely aesthetic reasons - but now theres so many themes out there.

[Q] Does the vibrant 3g roms work for vibrant 4g

I just purchased a new vibrant 4g which is currently on its way. My question is will I be able to root it with the same process as the 3g vibrant and will I be able to use Masters/Team Whiskey roms on them can anyone please explain. I never post on xda so hopefully this is where this type of question belongs.....
No they are different enough they will not just flash, but converting Say a trigger or other Rom to the 4g will be totally doable, just depends on whether the devs actually get that phone. My guess not many will.
thanks for the response that really sucks I know I could have done the modification for the ffc on my own I really needed the 4g tethering so that was the only reason I gave up my vibrant. Looks at the specs the phones are pretty much exactly the same I see most devs taking the vibrant 4g and porting them over to the vibrant 3g I was hope I was going to be able to use some of the roms which sucks. I may just keep the vibrant 3g and not sell it not... thats dissappointing news thanks for the info

Now to give you an answer: I have both phones. The 4g will have custom ROM's infact there are already 3 of them made by team whiskey. The problem is not having CWM working on our 4g phones yet. However, someone over at TW will be looking into getting this going this weekend. Once that is finished we will be capable of running custom ROM's
One good thing that bruce lee doesn't understand is that all these new PORTS the vibrant have been getting will require less modifying to work on the 4G.. Much smoother.
Bruce Lee sorry to kinda kick ya there, but how about not being a **** when your asking some noobish questions in your thread yourself. Everyone learns by asking questions.
Omg! just joshing. Although it is funny how all these people sooo anxious to hop on the latest and greatest where so sure 4g was going to be the natural progression of development. And despite many saying a ride on 4g wagon was illogical since theres no real advantage, an unlucky few still jumped.
Hey look, stop lying to these people; exclusive development for the 4g will likely never pick up. Even on tw own forum, was a guy advised to return the 4g because of its grim future. Every two years your carrier gives you the option to "upgrade" to a better phone not "side-step" to an equally comparable phone.
And just to be clear, I'm not trying to poke fun at the questioner. The above post is correct to state that no question is dumb are irrelevant and I live by this philosophy, as my previous post prove, and I am not ashamed of that. This was just a knee jerk reaction to some who i consider delusional in thinking 4g is so much more superior. Just thinking out loud

Lovemysgs is correct, there are a couple- 3, And without CWM flashing them is not as easy as most are used to, So, depending on your understanding of how to mod the phone and how to use some of the other tools like adb SDK and Odin, I usually tell the less skilled or the less familiar to wait until the beta becomes a normal release.
Also, when they do mod these roms it WILL be much easier like lovemysgs said. The only real problem is alot of devs will have moved on to other phones since this is not really a new phone just an upgrade to the Vibrant. So I would guess there will be less support.
Good question BTW
The roms wont work but u can still change a few things on it. The Linda sounds posted in the theme section works. You just have to move the files with root explorer. Also the transition animations done through metaphorph work. And you can change the touchwiz launcher with sgs tools. And you can change the shutdown but not the bootup animations.

[Q] Is it a ROM or is it a theme?

I've got thick skin so feel free to throw things.
Watching the forum over the last month I've seen a proliferation of ROMs to the point that I've stopped updating - also partly because my favorite and second favorite teams have stopped putting out new versions. I finally succumbed to the burning urge to try another ROM last night but ended up with buyers "meh."
The ROM environment has become so fragmented that it's hard to know what the advantage of ROM a is over ROM b other than appearance.
A comment from one of the ROM makers brought the problem into sharp focus. "I've renamed my ROM because I didn't know one of my team members already had a ROM named X."
How can you be part of a "team" and not know what's being produced by that team?
It seems like we've got more themers producing work in the form of full ROMs rather than themes. I've got nothing against themers, I love packages that can completely change the look of my device and I'm always on the lookout for cool new themes.
I'd rather see ROM maintainers and themers working together where the former group produces faster and more reliable ROMs while the latter group produces mods for those ROMs.
Do the two groups just not want to work closely together or are there predominantly just mostly lone wolves working at the ROM/theme level in Android?
Wrong section. Suppose to go in q&a (QUESTIONS and answers)
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA Premium App
I disagree because it's directly applicable to development and is aimed at the developers. It's not a general q/a question
I agree with this. There's no need to make a "rom" if you just change the theme. Just make a theme and zip it up then post it in the themes section. And oh yea I believe people refer to these people as "winzippers".

OP has a great point about our forum here. Ive really stopped doing anything but for my own use, and with the exception of a few real roms put here, I've watched our Vibrant area here turn into a rom porting paradise, without a lot of original work done by people calling themselves devs. Several of these self proclaimed devs have asked me for help with recent projects, and have then been unable to provide even a simple logcat for diagnosis. If someone cant pull a logcat or understand how to do other basics, you really need to take your time and learn.
It is okay to theme and do little things while you learn, and take the time to put out a quality product, instead of a hurried build thats half broken. We have a slight handful of true devs out here, and a whole bunch of people who want to learn, but seem to be in too much of a hurry to kang others work and not really learn how to build a rom from the ground up. Its a damn shame.
Ginger Clones of the World Unite!!! via the XDA App
I agree with Br1cK'd. There are a lot of "devs" lately that seem to be kanging together half broken ROM's. I can't tell you how often lately I've flashed something only to find major bugs, when the OP claims that the ROM is 100 percent working and bug free. It seems that most of the more skilled developers have moved on to newer devices. I'm all for people learning but they need to do a lot of quality control before they post their work on XDA.
are you tryna say my team member ferhanmm that did an error ? whats up with you son?>
But then... what actually constitutes a "Rom".
For as far as I know, according to CM6/7/Miui people, only theirs are truly "Roms", as they are built from ground up.
Everything else is just a themed stock Rom, or improvements to existing Sammy framework. (Which I still love btw)
If there were malicious Roms that are purposely bricking systems, then I would argue for stricter requirements for releases. But as it stands, I think the openness of this forum allows users and developers alike to find what makes them happy.
I just think in general, Rom devs/maintainers get more credit (Thanks button hits?) than purely themers. As there is a feeling that themers kind of "work for" Rom Devs... Which is why people tend to package their work as Roms instead of themes (So their work seems less derivative or what not)
Wrong section, but I agree.

first of all about the logcat ? did you learn alone ? i guess that if someone ask you, its nno bad to help is it ? because i bet some one showed you...now about the kang, so almost every rom here is a kang right ? almost all roms based on stocks from i9000s and stocks kb1`s isnt it ?... i guess this people have the right to learn, but seems you guys that already know a little dont like to help huh?
I have more than enough mods on my rom to constitute it not being a theme, and I don't know about you but I don't memorize every rom name out there. It sounded similar so I changed it, what's wrong with that? Since 2.2 has already been tweaked to the max I was able to put out a pretty stable version in the first post. Only things I can really do from here are make it more efficient and finish the theme which I plan to do but I just posted it. And it's my first rom so thanks for the encouragement.
I agree, the forum is filling up with "roms" that are just the same rom rethemed over and over and over again. What annoys me most are these self-proclaimed "devs" who take bits and pieces of other people's work and put them together for their own "rom" when they didn't really write any of it. Just take a look at their credits lol... It's a crazy long list.
I don't think there's anything wrong with having multiple ROMs. After all, everyone will like something different.
I think what the OP is saying though is that there are ROMs out there are essentially the same pieces with different theme, or maybe a new lock screen, and whatnot. I think the OP means little additions like that can be part of a theme or the theme & apps forum and could be added to any ROM and doesn't warrant releasing a new ROM under a new name and new dev.

I did my first root about two month ago. Since then I have tried about 20 various roms or updates to them. I tried one last week that seemed to be a copy from an established developer. The other team got really pissy and used alot of immature slang when confronted. I will no longer use any roms from them. I agree that people should learn from the ground up before posting roms and stop the plagiarism.
I appreciate the hard work of the legitimate developers on this site.
