Samsung Vibrant upgrade to 2.2 via Kies (official) then unlock it? - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I just got my new samsung vibrant t-mobile, and I am a newbie in the Android area.
If I do a official upgrade to 2.2 froyo via Kies, can I unlock it with the same popular methods found here with the: Generate Unlock Windows.zip
Can anyone advise before I upgrade to 2.2? Currently the phone is still 2.1 and locked to T-Mobile.
Thanks!

I suggest unlock it before updating because I think they done something in 2.2 so you can't use any of the easy unlock methods.

relock
Does anyone know if official 2.2 would relock a sim-unlocked Vibrant?

No the new 2.2 update from T-mo will not lock your phone again, it will un-root the phone. Use superoneclick to root again agter update to 2.2

I have an unlocked Samsung Vibrant.
When I tried to upgrade to 2.2, it would start, and then give me an error message instructing me to remove and replace the battery and trying again. I tried 3 times, unsuccessfully, to upgrade.
I believe the phone has to be locked before it will be able to be upgraded to 2.2. This is just my opinion. I would like someone more knowledgeable then me to respond.
Thanks.

Froyo 2.2 unlock alternatives.

Hey guys, I tried everything on this phone, from the free Market app, to the more involved method by the French guy in the Bible Sticky thread on how to unlock.... I even bit the bullet and bought an unlock code which also does not work when I try to allow it to manually register on the gsm network with MNC/MCC codes...
Is there any other method left I can try to possibly unlock my phone?
My first vibrant with 2.1 unlocked just fine.... then the mainboard on it crapped out, the replacement I got I could root & install 2.2 on easy, I think its Eugene's Froyo.... its awesome just that I can't unlock it :-(

[Q] Unlocked Xperia X10a stuck on 1.6?

I have a unlocked xperia x10a on 1.6, Ive read a few things that clash with each other about updating. I read about the flash tool that says you have to be at 2.1 to run the tool.
I want to update the android with either a custom build or even the official build it doesn't matter but im on tmobile and I dont want to loose the unlock and I've already read some material that says once its unlocked you cant update.
Is there a way to update to anything other then 1.6 without loosing the unlock or at least being able to re-unlock.
Im sorry if this has already been posted but I need a specific answer before I mess this up Ive been through like 4 phones in the last month lol.
I actually did the same thing. I bought a x10a from eBay, unlocked the phone, updated to 2.1, and put it on T-Mobile. I didn't lose the unlock when I updated.
As far as updating to 2.1 or other software, I used this guide here from agentJBM. I haven't had any problems. Hope this helps.

What order?

Hello everyone, I decided to buy the ATRIX to replace my old HTC Hero, I'm familiar with rooting an android phone and so on. However in light of the last week or so of news for the atrix, I'm a bit confused.
Currently, my phone is running Froyo (2.2.2) with the system version being 4.1.270.me860.ChinaRetail.en.CN ( Yes, I bought it in China). And I would like it to be running Gingerbread (2.3.4).
What order should I be doing things in?
From as far as I can gather...
Root (2.2.2) -> Unlock bootloader -> upgrade to 2.3.4 -> Root (2.3.4)?
Or am I missing something?
Help please.
afaik thers still no way to unlock the bootloader off a non at&t atrix, so you have to wait untill the unlock is available

[Q] Unlock Telus Fascinate (SGH-T959D)

Hi. I have a Telus Samsung Galaxy S Fascinate 3G+ (SGH-T959D), running 2.2, that I am trying to unlock. I have found several threads on this forum dealing with unlocking, but none of them specifically say that they will work with this model. Has anyone tried a specific method and worked? It would be greatly appreciated if someone could point me to the thread that unlocked their Telus Fascinate. Thank you!
have you done this yet?
No, I did not. I gave up to avoid making the phone nonfunctional.
Get SGS Unlock in the android market (free app)
I used it on my T959D when I went home to the philippines. Was able to use a sim I bought there and had perfect service, even 3g

SGS Unlock free edition wouldn't work for me on my telus fascinate.. but the pro version did.
I rooted it with super one click 1.5.5 first before doing the unlock.
I used the market app:
"Galaxy S Unlock,2.03,com.helroz.galaxysunlock"
on my T959D Telus running 2.2.
I had to use the 3 steps in the app because it only revealed FFFFFF for my unlock code.
I too was able to unlock a Telus SGH-T959D with Froyo 2.2 using "Galaxy S Unlock" ver 2.03 from the Market.
Had to do step 2 to do it, also had to have Internet connection. Which was not possible of course because the SIM was not working. Had to use the wifi connection.
The phone was rooted before that using SuperOneClick 2.2 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=890821)
does his work with Gingerbread 2.3.3?
does his work with Gingerbread 2.3.3?
I just did this with my Telus Samsung fascinate lastnight actually. I currently have GB 2.3.3... I had to Root my phone, get BusyBox, and Superuser before the Unlock App would work. But my phone is unlocked now.
I was fooling around using my sister's Fido Sim in my phone for a couple hours before she noticed her phone had no sim in it lol
Used SuperOneClick to root and had to use SGS Unlock pro version. The free version would not work.
Anyway it is now rooted and unlocked.
Thanks all for the pointers.
Sort of reviving an old thread: I'm getting a T959D as well from Telus, wanted to know if I should upgrade to GB before unlocking using the above or not.
That is assuming it's not GB already (since it's a refurb).
/EDIT NVM, it came with GB 2.3.3
The free version of the Galaxy S unlock app worked for me. I had BusyBox and Superuser installed as the previous posts suggested, and was running a 4.0.4 ROM.

[Q] need help regarding Unlocking bootloader for 2.3.6 version of Atrix

New to this forum and rooting but I've owned an Atrix for a long time now. Mine has 2.3.6 loaded and nd I don't need help with rooting; I got that far and verified with an app that I indeed have root access.
My intent is to get the phone unlocked. What i found here nd other forums is the procedure for unlocking the 2.3.4 version and they say the process for 2.3.6 is different. I am very afraid of bricking my device so need help in this from anyone who has unlocked after upgrading to 2.3.6 and tried out custom roms. Some relevant Useful links also welcomed.
I am using an At&T version of Atrix bought in the US, but using in India as it is carrier unlocked to be used with any sim.
Thnx in advance
Please if anyone could help me on this. I cant find any strong information about this.
