This is a work in progress. The goal of this project is to move it into a Theme.apk for the new "Theme Chooser"
Credits:
tnpapadakos (buy him a cappucino)
This is his hard work, and it's very good looking, I'm just trying to help minimize the zip size and get it moved to an apk for Tmobiles Theme Chooser

this is a good start in the right direction, dueces

Awesome, thanks!

*sigh* - DON'T
Seriously, guys... The themeing engine was added to CM7 precisely to avoid this kind of messing up with the ROM, so *don't* do this. Themes can now be built and distributed as APKs, you can even market the damned things...
This comes from an installable APK, for example:
xttp://dl.dropbox.com/u/10355648/mau5-land.png
Check the vendor/tmobile/themes/Cyanbread and Androidian stuff for examples.

Awesome I love it thanks

So this is a .apk or theme? Could you explain a bit more why you say this is a bad idea?

I've tried this, wiped caches, still will not give me the settings menu colorized. I'm gonna do a FULL WIPE to see if that resolves the issue, Thanks for the post

Had some issues, working now on #15. I edited the link in post #1 for the working full colorized build #14

I dig this, but am not keen on flashing something on top of nightlies that could jack with the ROM that's already a WIP.
Once you convert to a theme I'll definitely give it a whirl (not much liking the current 3 themes, but love the functionality & options it will bring).

Agreed. Love this idea. It should be an option with cm7 IMHO.

It's a theme, installed as an APK. Messing up with ROMs to change layout has always been a problem, it's _very_ easy to mess up something, especially when those changes are done by simply repacking the resources (unzip, replace, re-zip). It's a fairly frequent source of support problems for developers, and it's just an ugly way of themeing a phone.
CM7 includes a themeing engine developed by T-Mobile, and the main reason for it is to prevent these problems (and it is _very_ powerful, allows you to change almost anything from layout to animations, not just graphics). If you're running a recent build of CM7 (or any of the many CM kangs) , open the "Theme Chooser" application and choose one of the 2 samples: they are a very small example of what can be done. Note that even the window transitions are changed. Then search the market for "greybeard", and have fun installing your first market theme

well, no, its not a theme yet
its actually a kanged version of cm7
THE ONLY THINGS THAT ARE CHANGED ARE:
images in framework, SystemUI, Settings, Bluetooth, Browser, Calculator, Calendar, Contacts, Deskclock, Email, FM, MMS, Music and Phone
no layouts or xml files are changed, only images
the images changed have the exact same names, they have only been colorized so that the menu icons and notification bar icons that were grey/black and white before are now colored...some others that were colored before (like battery for instance) were changed to blue or some other design that i preferred (i personally cant stand the signal bars/wifi indicators in gingerbread)
this was originally just something i was doing for myself for a few months starting in july, 2010, but after i finally shared it in october over at cmforum, it took off as people liked it
there is nothing else changed in the ROM itself, so flashing this overtop of your current version of cm7.*** doesnt "break" anything else
so really its as simple as having both versions available on sdcard and flashing one or the other
honestly, its much to do about nothing, its just a different look
if someone can tell me how to "theme" the framework, and all those apk's listed above without doing it this way, i'd be glad to do it, it would save me alot of work, but i like doing it anyway

For those of you crying that this will break ****: No, it won't. It is a full rom. Nothing is broken/breaking.
I am working on adding it to the theme chooser, as that's the goal here.

[MetaMorph Theme] AllBlack v1.2

FOR SAMSUNG VIBRANT (SGH-T959)
USE WITH OTHER GALAXY S MODELS AT YOUR OWN RISK!
CURRENTLY TWO VERSIONS. 1.1 IS FOR JFD-BASED FIRMWARE WHILE 1.2 IS FOR JI6-BASED FIRMWARE. MAKE SURE YOU USE THE CORRECT VERSION!
UPDATE
This update is to make this theme compatible with the new JI6 firmware and ROMs based on it (such as Bionix 1.6 and above). There are no changes or additions to how the theme looks as of yet. It should appear identical to version 1.1 running on JFD-based firmware. Also, I have decided to remove the black-to-stock reversion theme as it seems to be causing more problems than it is solving due to compatibility issues with other firmware and other Galaxy S models. If you wish to return to stock, please either restore a NAND backup or use/create a stock TouchWIZ MetaMorph theme that is designed to work with your current firmware on your device.
AllBlack v1.2
This theme gives your notification bar and pull-down notification menu a sleek, minimalistic flat black look. Not only does this theme give your Galaxy S phone a clean dark look, but it also helps you save on precious battery power since black areas of the screen require zero power due to the active matrix nature of Samsung's Super AMOLED display.
I have made two versions available, one with my own custom notification icons (the same ones included in my ClearBar theme), and one without any notification icons so you can keep the same icons you have already been using.
This is a MetaMorph theme, so you will need to install MetaMorph from the Market and use it to apply this theme.
MAKE A NANDROID BACKUP BEFORE APPLYING THIS THEME!
ClockworkMod Recovery is available for Galaxy S phones through the ROM Manager which is available in the Market. If you have not already, please install ROM Manager in order to flash ClockworkMod Recovery (completely safe) and create a nandroid backup before applying this theme. I am not responsible for any issues this theme causes. It works perfectly fine on my Vibrant, but no two phones are alike so your experience my differ.
Be sure to turn USB Debugging on before applying. For some reason, having debugging disabled causes MetaMorph to hang when applying the theme.
Feel free modify or incorporate this theme in part or whole in your own projects. I only ask that you give me some credit if you redistribute my work.

applied both versions of this theme, however the dropdown notification background stayed the same default color (light greyish) both times and after a reboot. any ideas?
This is incredible.. black is my favorite color and I LOVE this theme. Only thing I would change is use the arrow with a line under it for downloads isntead of that box. Freaking awesome. Thanks tricorder!
Had to revert the "Droid in dropdown" theme for it to apply fully, where as when I applied on top of it only themed the top notification bar.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
applied only changed the bar not the pull down but still looks good
edit: a 2 reboots got it to show nice work just what i was looking for
i was just going to say the same thing. rebooted, reapplied, rebooted and then it started soft-rebooting itself 5 or 6x. Finally it let me back to the homescreen and everything seems to be ok.
It worked perfect fine for me coming off your Clearbar notification theme...
Sent from my Ungodly sleek, stylish, powerful, and sexy Vibrant...It reminds me of myself
I was having the same problem everyone else is having with getting the pull-down notification list to change properly when I was making this and testing it out. The best solution I found for when this happens is to go back into MetaMorph, only apply twframwork-res.apk from this theme, and then reboot. I don't know what causes this, and didn't have the same problem when I was making ClearBar.

I'm actually pretty fond of my animated downloads icon. I really like the whole "arrows of data going down into the phone" effect that I made. If you don't like it, you're perfectly free to use different icons or make your own. Just open up the zip file and navigate to framework-res/res/drawable-hdpi and replace the icons you want to change. No resigning or anything like that is required for this to work in MetaMorph.
No dissin tricorder lol.. you made my phone awesome. Thanks...

White stuff?
can we get a theme with white for the notifications text? I want brilliant white instead of dim colors... not hatin or anything!!!
i don't know if anyone else is having troubles but when i do this is messes up my market to the point i cannot access it. Any ideas?
+1 on the white text and I never had any problems with my market..

Use hxd. Search for 0800001C and then edit the following 8 digits (BGRA).
Here's a good guide to get you started: http://www.jbthemes.com/AndroidThemeingGuide/The Ultimate Android Themeing Guide.pdf
Or you could just yank it out of my theme if you're short on time

Thanks again. I'll look over this and learn to do this the right way instead of yanking it out of your theme, but thanks for offering.
Tricorder, look for AXMLPrinter2.jar on the forums. It can convert binary xml to text xml.
tried to revert back to stock...it just hung on the 'applying' screen forever. rebooted, tried again, etc. let it run on 'applying' for 2 hours before giving up. stuck with the allblack theme now and although i'm not sure (haven't been able to isolate it) i think it is causing some lag issues. but this may be unrelated.

I really don't see how it could be causing lag. All it does is change some png files.
Also, double-check to make sure you still have usb debugging enabled. That seems to be the primary cause for MetaMorph hanging when applying themes. I've used my black-to-stock theme to revert a few times with no problems, although it doesn't always seem to apply the stock images from twframework-res on the first try, but the second try and a reboot always seems to work.
I'm working on a new release of this. I've eliminated the white background for the music controls in the pull-down notification menu and started changing some of the text to white to show up better. Does anyone have any suggestions for some other changes?

More UI elements themed
More apps themed
jav... nice work! tried to catch you in IRC, but you left b4 I got a chance to talk to you about this...
Not sure if this was designed this way, but wanted to let you know either way... it's kinda that way in Google Voice as well... Great job tho...
I kind of did that on purpose, but I've been toying with making them more prominent a bit. You might see the look get updated in the near future. I'm glad you like my work though and appreciate the constructive criticism.
Niiiiiiccceeeee!!! Did you use the black modded apps package to make twitter and facebook black?
I really like the theme, it looks great. I also love dark/minimalist themes. The only thing i don't like about is it is that the battery indicator looks a bit too bright/happy for the theme.... Maybe a grey indicator in the status bar would work better or maybe a blue or purple one. Just a suggestion. Other than that it looks great.
Nice work ,

I've actually been trying to remove almost all color, or at least that's the end goal.... except for green. I wanted to let the Android green stay. I also happen to think it looks good with the black and gray, brings just a slight amount of color. So, unfortunately, I don't intend on changing the battery indicator. Maybe I could provide a grayscale option as a flashable update.zip style installer package at a later date though if I get time.
I'm glad you like what I've got together so far. It's really far from done yet, I plan on more deeply theming a lot of the other apk's, like facebook and twitter that you mentioned, so that they're more black just like the Gmail/Gtalk apps are already.
Perhaps I'm missing something....
since swype apparently was not included w/ 2.2.2, I downloaded the swype apk, but even after reinstalling the theme, I still get the default swype keyboard.
Other than that I'm a big fan, nice work!
The direction s on the original post should state where to find everything. I don't install swype automatically as not everyone has it installed/uses it. Check /sdcard/BlackOut for a D2_Swype.zip and flash it from recovery.
Afaik, it works perfectly. I know a bunch of people who're using it.
Please try and remember to always read the first post from start to finish before reporting "bugs". I'm glad you like my work.
Sweet theme, in the 5 minutes I have looked at it and tried it. No themed FB and Twitter widget though? Something I am missing?

It sounds like you're doing something wrong. You don't install apk's in recovery. Can you describe for me the exact steps you're trying to take to install these? Nobody else has reported any issues on DX or D2, so I highly doubt it has anything to do with the apk's themselves, but I could be wrong.
Best theme out there, any chance we will be seeing Gmail 2.3.2 in all black? Also a blacked out version of market would be pretty cool. Looking forward to the 2.3 drop when it comes out!

Everything should be updated hopefully this weekend to work with 2.3, including hopefully the new Gmail. I've been hearing there's already a Fission 2.3.1, so I might just jump over 2.3 to that, but either way, the theme will be getting updated and development continues.

I'm not really sure what you're doing in Root Explorer. All you have to do is open up the included "Files" file manager and click on the *.apk file that you want to install from /sdcard/BlackOut. It'll prompt you if you want to install it and you click ok. Afaik, you're the only one that's been having issues getting these .apk's installed. Try it the way I just described and report back, if possible. It's really the simplest / only way I ever install *.apk's and I've never had issue.

REQUIREMENTS
CM6.1 for the HTC Legend
CM6.1-Gingertheme.v6.1.LEGEND.zip courtesy of Sympnotic - Download provided below.
LauncherPro (Recommended) OR Gingerbread Launcher
*** NOTE: Gingerbread Launcher 3D Free does not work on the Legend.
Icons (if using LauncherPro) courtesy of Benny879 @ the LauncherPro Forum - Download provided below.
Gingerbread Keyboard by Fabolous @ Droid Forums
LCDDensity
Livewallpaper from Gingerbread
*** NO METAMORPH REQUIRED!
STEPS
*** DO A BACKUP FIRST!!!
Flash CM6.1-Gingertheme.v6.1.LEGEND.zip
Select STOCK_Black theme in CM settings. (User interface --> Tweak Extras)
Flash the keyboard and select Android Keyboard in text input.
Open up LCDDensity and set to 240 then restart.
Open up LCDDensity again, set to 160 (default), and restart again (this is to fix the unusually small size of the new keyboard).
Use the icons to give the LauncherPro dock the Gingerbread look. DO NOT FLASH THE ICON ZIP FILE just extract it and customize through the LauncherPro menu. Alternatively, you can use the Gingerbread Launcher in the Market, but it does not have support for a 3D app drawer.
Set wallpaper to "Nexus" live wallpaper.
BUGS
Rebooting the phone will cause the keyboard to return to its small state again. You'll have to repeat steps 4 & 5 to correct it.
After flashing the theme from Sympnotic, the CM theme options may appear as a blank menu with one checked radio next to it. Check it again, leave the menu, go back, and STOCK_Black should be there.
After flashing CM6.1-Gingertheme.v6.1.LEGEND.zip I got stuck at the Cyanogenmod boot screen. I had to power it down then power it back up for it to properly boot. Everything was fine after.
"Add Call" button appears lower than the "End" and "Dialpad" buttons (See Post #5). Flash CM6.1-Gingertheme.v6.1.LEGEND.zip to fix. Thanks to Sympnotic.
MISSING FEATURES
New live wallpaper as seen on the Nexus S. Fake Nexus S live wallpaper added!
Official Nexus S live wallpaper.
Orange colour burst when reaching the end of a menu.
Sleep animation.

Hey thanks. Also, you ever think about making the notification bar slightly transparent? I think that would look real nice. Just a thought. I'd do it myself but have thus far be unable to figure out how.

I'm just trying to learn this stuff too. Right now I'm relying on Sympnotic for the theme and I'm not sure if there are any plans for a transparent version. Maybe in the future if I can figure it out myself.
@jaStrom: Just want to ask you something. Did you sign framework-res.apk after you apply the theme? And did you zipaligne the modified apks?

No and no. I didn't create the required files mentioned in the first post. All I did was flash/install the required items, made sure everything worked, then posted exactly how I did it. I'm still in the process of learning about how to properly use the SDK, so I've been relying on more advanced users' work.
That doesn't mean that it isn't zipaligned or signed, I just don't know since I didn't make it. Why? Are you experiencing slower performance?

Hi, I did the theme, and no, i'm not signing or zipaligning it, I'm too lazy to do that as I'm always replacing things at the last moment before flashing and testing it, but I'm moving files from .zip to .zip to prevent issues concerning signing.
Properly recompiled (w/o errors) framework-res.apk using apktool (supposedly fake signed) gives me bootloops.
I'll grab the fake-sign java thing just in case and will find some infos about it.
Ps: jaStrom : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=869771

Gave it a try and everything works well. The new unlock animation is cool! The 'call' button is still lower than the 'end' and 'dialpad' buttons though. It doesn't cause any practical problems, it's just odd. Thanks for the Legend version!

This is a smallish theme that goes with my Tron Inspired Swype that was released last week. Some of the items I made, and some were modified version of other peoples work. I would definitely call this a collaboration of sorts. Like most people I brought all of this together for me but decided others might like it so I'm providing it to everyone else. Let me know what you guys think!

Thanks for the info
I forgot to add that the charging animation is a spinning effect, I thought it went with the whole Tron disc thing. I might end up putting in a inner circle spinning the other way and get rid of the plug. Scope creep wewt!
Well I flashed axura cause its usually snappier than nero for me. Then I decided to go ahead and try to port the theme to axura. I thought this was pretty hilarious so I thought I would share.
It's definitely going to take some xml work which I have no idea how to do other than I have to decompile the apk somehow.

None of that should require xml edits. Are you sure all your pngs got transfered properly? In fact, I'm pretty sure you should be able to directly your DialerTabActivity.apk from nero5 to axura2.2.7.1. Prior to 2.2.7, they were different, but now it seems like they're using the same one.

Well the first thing I did was transfer everything over from what I modified, the dialer looked ok but the background(behind the buttons) was still axura's background and I couldn't find anything I thought it would be.
That is when I did something crazy, I transferred all of the xml's from blackfroyo that had button background in the name and put those in the update.zip. The result of that is what you see above.
The xml edit thing was referring to the clock on the notification bar that I was glancing at when I wrote that. Not to mention the notification background didn't change, and the rom doesn't have the accurate battery mod.

The date is actually in the services.jar. I can help you with the smali editing if you need, but Master actually posted a selection of date colors you can just d/l in This Thread.
Notification background is actually backwards in axura (don't ask me why). It's status_bar_background.9.png instead of statusbar_background.9.png
Accurate battery....ya, not sure why he left that out. You can either learn to xml edit, or use my framework when I get a chance to finish up my port.

I'd like to learn but I have a lot on my plate atm. I might hit you up this weekend in a pm or something. I'm in the middle of a senior project, and my last database class before I graduate. Of course I had to start doing something like this and let my OCD take over.

I turned the brightness up and played angry birds while listening to the tron soundtrack last night trying to drain the battery enough to see the other colors in the charging "animation". My friend was laughing at me. Playing Avatar was taking to long, Angry Birds drain the battery pretty quick.
This theme is awesome, thanks for the hard work. I'm trying to flash the neon market posted in the other thread, but it will not take. Any suggestions?

I've spoken with the creater of the market. He's working on getting them updated to the newest version. Until then, the market will automatically update itself soon after you flash it, making it look like the original green market again.

The only time I've had this happen was when I installed Nero5, ka6, and then this theme all in a row without rebooting. I bet if you look in root explorer at your system/app folder the app will be in there.
Is this what you did? Otherwise you could just have a bad download or flash.

[ROM][THEMES] DarkHazard & some CM6.1.1 themes

Introducing my first real custom ROM that I have used all fresh images for. This is CyanogenMod's Gingerbread Nightly Build #26.
I have removed several .apk's that I personally don't use including:
DSP Manager
Development
Live Wallpapers
CM Wallapapers
Magic Smoke Wallpapers
Visualization Wallpapers
Browser
Gingerbread Themes and themed apk's
ProTips
QuickSearchBox
and SpareParts.
By removing all these I have condensed the ROM down considerably and everything still runs smooth.
I have themed a few of the apk's in this ROM:
ADW Launcher
Phone Dialer
Camera
and Settings
Other apk's that I replaced the Icon Launcher default images.
Camera
Broswer
Music
Video
Calendar
Contacts
File Manager
Phone
Gallery
MMS
and Settings
I've added a Custom Bootup Animation that has a touch of 'Old School' feel to it to add to the 'screen off/on' CRT animation. Redid the sliders and slider buttons. Added some more custom images throughout the ROM here and there including the USB connection image is now changed.
I've changed the StatusBar Icons as well. Custom WiFi, Cell Reception and Connection Speed Icons for increased visibility. Updated all over icons for better visibility as well.
This works well as a standalone if you like have a ROM that's been reduced in size to increase your MTD partition or for whatever reason you want a slimmer ROM. Otherwise this can be flashed over an existing Gingerbread ROM build 26 and will work just fine.
WARNING: Flash at your own risk, you know the possibilities of bricking etc etc.
CM-7.DarkHazard
Updated CM-7.Darkhazard
Post your Likes and Dislikes. I'd like to know what people think of this ROM as I plan on making more Themed ROMs in the future and might cater to some ideas if enough people like certain things.

Pink Themed Items
Items shared by both Pink and Onyx themes.
Onyx themed items.

As always, flash at your own risk and I hope you guys enjoy these.

all I have to say.. is keep it up, once CM7 is stable, please update it!

I agree, everyone uses the browser. and I dont like any of the android market browsers.
The one thing i dont like much is the boot screen, but that I can change.

I use Dolphin HD cause it seems to suit me better. I'm uploading a new ROM the includes a browser with a changed icon. This is the kind of input I like. for those that would like just the browser I themed the icon, I'll link that too.
I somehow thought Guitarist and Musicman were the same person...
Guitarist has no avatar, and MusicMan has a picture of a guitar
:S
love this theme man. can't even pick out something that I would want changed. again, great job, keep it up!
looks great!! Definitely will try it once CM7 becomes stable and have a fix for my WIFI issue.
Anyway, I was also hoping that I can have the % displayed for battery. Been missing that in CM7 from CM6..
Me too, though having a percentage display on the lockscreen helps out a lot. That, and gingerbread has built in CPU monitoring and some other nice features. Build 26 has been very stable for me so far.

I think that was a slight issue with a few of the nightlies (can't recall which ones off the top of my head right now), I'll be updating this as a final release once CM7 does a final release. Though if you guys want the latest nightly updated version I have I'll push on getting some final touches and release a build 34 (when they do of course). This was mainly to give a taste of my first total themed Gingerbread ROM and find out what people like/dislike kind of deal. I'm still working in the background on this one and have 3 more ideas in the works so far. I'll be making bootup screens per theme as well. I might have some screenies ready by Friday for the Gunmetal Theme inspired by MGS4/COD Spec Ops.
