Notion Ink Apps on NOOKcolor [Working] - Nook Color Themes and Apps

After some time lurking through the Galaxy Tab Forums I saw that some of the Notion Ink apps were ported to the GTab then tested and worked on the Galaxy Tab. I figured I would download the other apps and give them a try on our beloved NOOKcolor.
The first app I tested was the Mail'd App and viola, it worked. I set up my GMail account and it's been running great.

I tried the Calendar and Calculator apps with no luck; I get a parsing error notification. Additionally I was hoping that the QuickOffice HD would install but that didn't work either.
Members in the Galaxy Tab forum noted that the browser worked but need to make a few changes in /system -- see below [thanks Boushh]
Boushh said:
With the browser apk, you must first use root explorer and navigate to /system/app and rename your default Browser.apk to Browswer.apk.bak and then it will install. To go back to the stock modified samsung browser just rename Browser.apk.bak to Browser.apk.
Edit- I got mail'd working, just install THIS APK it's really sick!

I have not yet tested the Browser, Sniffer, Keyboard, or Canvas applications. Please do so at your own risk. I will attach the files.
All credit goes to Gojimi for porting these to the Viewsonic GTab and Boushh in the Galaxy Tab forums for making the email .apk. All I did was test them out.
Good Luck and please report back with any feedback on apps that work/workarounds to get them working.

Thanks for these! Downloading the email app as i type this.

Email crashes. And most of these apps are froyo apps.
Nook Color via Xda Ap

thanks, the email is working fine and super awesome!

Installed Mail'd. Outgoing mail works fine but when trying to sync/receive I get a network unreachable error (standard Gmail is working fine in both directions). I tried changing the incoming server settings, but my changes will not save and revert back every time i leave the screen.

Email works great, looks awesome! Truly love apps designed for tablets.

I'm getting a similar issue when trying to use a non-Gmail account. I'll see if I can sync any other accounts and see what happens.

it seems like when i try to use the back button via softkeys, the mail app crashes. anyone else have this problem?

I use Button Savior and though it doesn't crash, the back button is unresponsive.
UPDATE: I was able to install Quick Office HD. You must uninstall Quick Office (Barnes & Noble Version) via Titanium Backup then go ahead and install the Notion Ink Quick Office HD and you should be good to go. It works very nice too, optimized for tablets like the Mail'd app.

Great work! Dowloading now and will try to install after church. Thanks a bunch man.

Mail app works great, thanks! Browser gives a parsing error even after renaming.

Have not had a chance to test it too extensively, but canvas appears to install and run just fine on froyo. Really nice drawing app.

Most of these apps if not all should work on Froyo. I managed to install Canvas on Eclair but even after a wipe via Titanium it would not open up.

I got Mail'd set up and working with my Gmail account, it crashes whenever I try to read an email though, and I can't get it setup with my schools exchange account(we go through outlook.com and I can't figure out the correct settings)
I also got QuickOffice HD working and it is quite nice.

I got quickoffice HD and Mail working perfectly... but no browser =[ anyone got any idea how to get it working?

Installed quickoffice and mail'd.
Only issue I see so far is you lose the status bar so you lose the menu button, and button savior does not work.
Oh, that and Notion appears to think you spell syncing like this..."synching".

sadly it looks like mail'd is based off the k9 framework and uses webdav instead of ActiveSync for exchange. This means no push email for anything other than IMAP idle. Too bad. I was excited for a second there...

[Q] Can't get Netflix to work on rooted Nook Color 1.2 with Honeycomb

Hello everyone,
I can't get Netflix to work on my rooted Nook Color 1.2 (blue circle) with Honeycomb 3.0 (Deeper Blue's). I've downloaded the latest version of Netflix from the market and when I try to launch it briefly shows a black screen, then returns to the apps menu.
My setup is HC-v4-emmc and clockwork-3.2.0.1-eyeballer.
I've tried changing the build.prop settings to both the HTC/HTC Vision and samsung/Nexus S, and nothing changes.
I've searched all over the web and I can't find a solution.
I'd appreciate anyone's help to get Netflix running for me.
Thanks!
The Honeycomb builds for the Nook Color are little more than tech demos, not to be used as "daily drivers". The builds lack hardware overlay which you will find is necessary for pretty much any video playback, even if it did work it would be software emulated and you wouldn't have a video, you'd have a slideshow...
Thank you so much for the information, I didn't know that!
What build/OS do you suggest I use to root my Nook Color? I'm looking to use Netflix, web browsing, the Google suite (calendar, email), enterprise email, and stored video browsing pretty regularly.
Thank you again.
I highly recommend the CM7 nightlies, rock stable and very speedy with the overclock. You can grab the latest build here http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=encore , I'd recommend flashing it onto the emmc for the speed advantages. Dolphin HD for web browser, Mobo player for video, Samba app for wireless file transfer to the Nook, CifsManager to wirelessly mount your PCs shared folders to the Nook(great for streaming video and music). Just a few recommendations to get you started, you can find all those apps in the market...

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but what overclock settings do you recommend?
I'm rolling with 1200mhz for my highest step>875mhz>525mhz>425mhz>300mhz for the lowest with the ondemand governor.
Joe,
Thanks again for the help, you were right on. I installed the latest CM7 nightly and I'm up and running.
Unfortunately, now the market doesn't show Netflix as an app. I'm guessing I have restricted access to the market where certain apps don't show. Any idea on how to address this? I tried the directions online to clear the market data/cache but that didn't work.
Any help would be appreciated.
If you just want netflix, you can grab the latest version in the thread from my signature.
Otherwise, a little explanation is at hand, Google just recently updated the market app and it seems to have some issues, some major issues, we are waiting for Google to fix the issues. In the meantime there is a work around, you'll have to edit your build.prop and change your dpi to 160, reboot, then go to settings>applications>manage applications>all> and clear the data from the market app. Your market will work fine for a while and then start acting up again, at that point you'll need to clear the market data again, wash rise repeat...
Thanks for the advice, I changed qemu.sf.lcd_density to 160 and I'm now able to download apps that were previously listed in the marketplace but not downloadable (e.g., Flash Player, Facebook), but Netflix is still not showing up. I installed it from your link though. Any other ideas on why it may not be showing up?
Oh, I forgot, I also made these changes to my build.prop
ro.product.model=SCH-I500
ro.product.brand=verizon
ro.product.name=SCH-I500
ro.product.device=SCH-I500
ro.product.manufacturer=samsung
Which should get you around the device filtering Google has implemented and make most if not all apps available to you.

Did you download it from the market? Yes it shows up if you sideload it but I have never been able to get it to show up the market using any build.prop edits. If it does show up it probably will not have the option to download it.

It was side loaded because it is the version I made without the rotation lock, but that is not why it is showing up. I uninstalled it and then searched for Netflix
Like i said, the build.prop edits work if you do it right.

Does the build.prop edit work with 176+ and 3.1.3? I just tried with no luck. Movies shows up in Market and I can play trailers, but Netflix does not show in the search. I went for a sideload and that works fine. Just wondering...

It works, along with the 160 dpi change you need the "make & model" change, then clear the data from your market through >settings>applications>manage applications> once you've done all that then you should be good to go.

New Market 3.1.3 (3.1.5 is up now too)

Edit, as of October 3, I'd suggest holding off on the 3.1.6 Market update. Could be fishy. It's signed differently than Google does. Mine below are fine.
EDIT: The new market is cool and all, but I have noticed that if I have multiple google accounts, it switches back and forth... which is REALLY annoying. If you notice issues, go to menu > accounts and make sure your primary is selected. Other than this, it is great.
EDIT 2: there is now a 3.1.5 - the bug mentioned above still exists
DOWNLOAD LINK FOR 3.1.5
If you had 3.1.3, it may just auto-update for you.
---------- below is older information for 3.1.3 --------------
You can thank @MastaTM (XDA: Official_Master) for the new Market (3.1.3)
http://www.multiupload.com/41FQ6PQ3MS
The below is litterally pasted from androidpolice (again, they are on point). I bolded what is new.
Wow, Google is on a roll with the Android Market lately. Since the release of Market v3.0, a number of small updates have come to the Android Market recently, but this is by far the biggest yet. Google has added the long-awaited +1 functionality to the Android Market (which has been on the web version of the Market for quite some time), along with a few other goodies.
There's a brand-new settings menu, as well as click-to-read explanations of app permissions (not developer customizable, unfortunately).
There are also 2 brand-new Market icons to spruce things up a bit (within the Market itself - unfortunately, the app drawer icon is still the same).
For convenience's sake, the size in megabytes of each app, along with its latest update date, have been moved from the bottom of descriptions to the top of individual app pages, which is a very useful change in our book.
Moving on to the thumbnail navigator, Google added a long-overdue sliding transition - a nice touch that makes the Market feel more polished.
Oh, and did we mention you can now use an optional custom PIN for purchases on your phone, instead of leaving your Google Checkout wide open for anyone that picks up your device? If you have kids, or your phone is stolen, this is one awesome feature to have - and really, it makes a lot of sense.
You'll need Unknown Sources enabled in the Settings -> Applications menu to install it.

Installing Android Market APK
Could use a little help here. Put a new ROM on my wife's phone, but for some reason, it doesn't have the Market on it. Every time I download the APK for the Market though, it asks me if I want to assign an account to it, which I choose Yes, and then it closes. I'm going to keep working on it, but if anyone has any ideas, please help!

Can you upload it? I did not know there was an update. Curious if it fixes the account switching bug in .3.
EDIT: nevermind... it does not fix the bug.
thank you, this new is better ;D
2.xx is better. 3.xx is too slow and laggy
Someone in the General apps forum uploaded what they claim is version 3.1.6. I pushed it into system/app and over wrote vending.apk but I still have version 3.1.5. Others are reporting success, though. Saying it looks a little more polished.
Edit: Removed link due to suspicious nature of this "update". Search it out and install it on your own, but I've restored my nandroid backup and am done with it until more is known about it.

Android Market 3.3.11

It appears an update to the Android Market is now being pushed out to handsets, and we've got the .apk file for you right now.
Warning: this updated Market does not seem to work very well on Honeycomb tablets, there appears to be a number of glitches.
What's changed? So far, we've found:
•New setting: Auto-update apps (presumably, sets all apps to auto-update mode, woohoo!)
•New setting: Update over Wi-Fi only
•New setting: Auto-add shortcuts (automatically adds homescreen shortcuts for new apps, ala Honeycomb)
•Smaller font
•New app drawer icon
•Microphone (voice command) button in search menu
•Star rating chart on app pages
•Minor UI tweaks

Update: I just installed the market. Everything seems to be in working order. Just d/l the apk. Use ur Root Explorer/File Manager. Run the .apk and install over ur old market. No need to replace vending.apk or setting permissions. Works fine as I did it that way. Smooth as butter.

No Films on Desire HD
Hey. Im on an Atrix in the UK on O2 and am running CM7 (the latest beta) and now have the latest Market (3.3.11) from another link.
I've also forwarded the .apk to my wife and mate, both of whom are on a Desire HD in the UK.
Funny thing is, I have the option of Films, yet, with the same .apk, neither of them do. Just Apps, Games and Books. Very strange! Can anyone explain it? Either I'm not meant to have Films, or they are not meant to!
By the way, I have also used the same .apk on my Uk Transformer, which is unrooted. On there, I too have the options for Films!
I suspect it is HTC thing, but how/why?
(The reason I went looking for the .apk in the first place was because wifey was still stuck with version 2 of market as the Google update wasn't not coming through. Apparently that was an HTC thing - apparently they only release their Market updates with ROM updates. Is that true? or is my wife's phone glitchy? Hers is std uk Voda unrooted)
Thanks guys.

I can't play Flash videos on websites?

I have Flash Player 11 installed. I have tried with the stock browser and Firefox. Whenever I'm trying to play video with either browser; I get a message a long this line "Install Flash Player or enable Java".
I'm on Honeycomb 3.1, there is no official 3.2 update available for my region yet.
YouTube works fine. Videos on Facebook App; only audio is working but with black screen.
Anyone facing the same problem? Any suggested solutions?

I was testing out the new overscreen browser so decided to see what would happen if I tried the link. It works ok for me. I have to add that as a military mom, it brought tears to my eyes.

Plug in enabled, yes, and it works on my computer here in the US but not on my phone nor Tablet... weird.
Would it be HTML 5 related?

Can you provide a print screen?
At the moment it's working after receiving another update, still at 3.2 but things are faster nor flash works just fine!

Yep, I am a hardcore Raider fan and it too made my eyes watery, awesome episode!
Back to the subject, I am currenlty on Task revamped 14 but I just noticed that this section is for the 10.1V which I am guessing is not the WIFI only version which is the one I have... could that be an issue?

I don't have a problem playing flash video in the browser
But videos in the facebook app don't work. I can hear the sound but It's just a black screen.
Try this:
Settings > Applications > All, find browser, click "Force Stop" and "Clear Data"
Retry
FB Video's work fine for stock browser, but chrome does the job for everything else

[Tip] Fix App Associations in Sense 3.6/4.0

It seems that because of an Apple lawsuit, all links (YouTube, Play Store, etc) open in the web browser instead of their respective apps. It no longer gives an option to choose like it did in gingerbread. This drove me nuts and I searched around the internet for a fix. I hope this helps someone with the same problem.
1) Delete HtcLinkifyDispatcher.apk using System Tuner or Root Explorer (apk located in /system/app). Note: Freezing the apk won't work, it needs to be removed.
2) Reboot phone
3) Clear defaults for browser in Settings/Apps

So THAT is why.. I always wondered if I could safely remove that APK from my old rom, now I wish I had. Like apple owns the RIGHTS to apps getting utilized.. I'll probably figure it out later, but this doesn't actually break the app association function in system settings right?
Mainly this post is a bump for your thread, this is good to know, and I think this apk is still being included in all the roms..
You can also remove the app using titanium backup.
Thanks

Why not just use app associations in the settings menu?
I stand corrected... MrMako posted THIS LINK and when I clicked it, it gave me option for play store app

The app associations in the settings is incomplete. Try opening a YouTube link on your phone without this tweak and it will force it open in the browser instead of giving it an option to open it in the YouTube app.
The reason HTC added the app associations in the settings menu is to get around an Apple patent that is being enforced by the ITC (thus the delay in customs for HTC ONE X at the US customs). Apple owns a patent which allows intelligent app associations by knowing which app to open by reading the link. HTC lost that in the courts so we get a workaround that is not as good as the old option.
This is not a big deal for most people but I hate the YouTube mobile site and would rather want my YouTube links to open in the app.

Mine still opens in the browser, even after clearing caches, to be honest, I think the app htclinkify or whatever the name is happens to be the app that links contacts, but I may be wrong.
Well guess I'm the only unlucky one, lol.

Worked for me!
You sir, are a flippin' genius! Also, Apple are a bunch of asshats, but that's nothing new.
Just curious, those who have completed this mod, can you click on a phone number or email (check both please) and the phone bring up either the dialer or new email to compose? I tested it and these stopped functioning as the links call the app that is renamed/deleted.
Thanks!!

Clicking phone number does bring up a dialer for me and clicking an email link brings up an option to choose.
Try clearing the defaults for Mail/Gmail and dialer and that might solve your problem.

I'd have to test it, but I don't use gtalk.. but since gtalk is a purely google app, I doubt it would have problems from deleting a HTC specific file. I would go ahead and stop the app, delete the files in system settings, or if that doesn't work uninstall and reinstall the app..
As I said, there is no reason that gtalk should have problems after this..
I just tried this and none of the links open now. When I try for example to open a link from Reddit News, nothing happens. It doesn't open it with youtube app or the browser. Nothing happens at all
EDIT: Seems like freezing the app with titanium backup doesn't work. I uninstalled it and it works fine now
Thanks OP

I found the same to be true about freezing the app.
From what I have experienced, this occurs with the stock browser. I installed Dolphi Browser and I am able to open maps with the maps/navigation app, as well as click numbers and it opens in the phone app. Maybe something to consider.
Sort of easy fix is to install the google chrome beta and make that default. When i click on links on that browser (or even facebook) it asks again. Thank GOD!!!
Question. I don't really mind the fact that the linkify dispatcher exists, and the benefits of removing it don't outweigh the drawbacks for me. But I am darn tired of seeing it showing up in my multitasking menu. Looks unprofessional and tacky.
So, my question is: how can I hide HTCLinkifyDispatcher from the multitasking menu without actually removing it?

I've yet to see a benefit to keeping it, so I don't know why you'd want to keep it. Remove it, then it is a non issue.
