Hello EVO 3d owners. With the recent possibility of samsung releasing a 1.4 ghz dual core variant, and the possibility of an ice cream sandwhich device at years end, are any of you considering returning this phone and waiting. Just looking for opinions.

Nope... if we continue to wait for the next big thing in technology, how can we ever enjoy any of it? The evolution of phones is moving very fast... as soon as you get your hands on this new 1.4 ghz phone they will be releasing notes on the even newer 2ghz phone of the future.... I am excited to get my hands on this device and will hold on to it until my next upgrade is available, gives me something to look forward to without having to focus on each new thing out there!
There's already quad core phones coming out by q4 2011.

If the phone just came out buy it no need to wait especially if you have upgrades every year. If the phone has been out for more than 6 months then I'd look at what's out on the horizon.

Theres only so much you can do with a phone. Sure you can have a quad core 2.0ghz phone, but wtf do you need it for? Plus the battery life is already terrible. Could you imagine?

I can agree that if we just keep waiting for the "NEXT BIG THING," we'll never really get a chance to enjoy what's now. Think of it this way, you have a phone that's less than a week old, so you're doing pretty good. Will this phone last for a while? Sure, I think it will. But this is coming from me, who just upgraded from a HERO. So, I think I can hold onto this phone until my next upgrade (1 year from June 24th.)

I can say quite positively that you added nothing to this post, and only took away from it. Maybe it was not "smart" or "high quality", but you just decreased the intelligent level of the conversation. Thank you for that.
I agree with everyone. I am not a tech junkie, I don't have to have the best of the best. I am a graduate student in neurology. I also have a lot a bit of experience in computer programming. I actually used my Org Evo to interface with research equipment and analysis data. Well the software we use continues to advance and demands better phones. So I am just trying to future proof myself in that area. I am trying to make sure the phone's hardware is all that it is suppose to be. If my original evo was up to par, I would still be using that.
I believe that it is. I honestly believe, based off an in depth talk with a gentleman whose entire career is based on developing microchips like the one we see in our phones. He is adamant that the newest generation of qualcomm (spelling) processors are the best he has seen in a phone this far.
Anyway, that combined with the reputation HTC has, the 3vo seems like a great bet.

If you go with the attitude to wait, then why not wait forever and get nothing I mean lets say you hold off on the EVO-3D, and wait for the slightly better Galaxy S2, but don't get that the Nexus-4.0 will be even better than the Galaxy S2, but wait, the Nexus-4.0 will be trumped by the best yet Galaxy S3 due next spring per Samsung, but wait the Galaxy S3 will be outdone by the EVO-Three.
What if while waiting for the next best thing, you get killed in a car wreck tomorrow, thus never enjoying the cool tech we have right here, right now.

What people have said in this thread makes perfect sense. If you wait for THOSE phones there will be even better ones around the corner in the future too. So you would simply be right back in the same situation.
I can see the 3vo being the 2nd legit 22 month phone. the og Evo being the 1st.
Like others have said you can't keep waiting or you'll never get. As for a 1.4 dual. Meh what's it really going to do that your 1.2's can't do? well outside of increase your penis size in a pissing match. Heck thats about all the quad cores are going to do too.
phones are advancing too fast. there is hardly anything out there that will take full advantage of the dual core phones. i think getting the 3vo would be fine because it will take a bit before developers catch up with it and by then you'll be due for an upgrade.

Yeah the QHD screen, the better form factor on the body of the phone, double the ram, 4 times the internal storage (this will matter a lot more when we have root and custom roms), the actual camera button, the newer build, second microphone for noise cancelling. You're right the Evo 4G had all of those.
only thing thats making me more and more want to return the phone is..
its not that I don't believe HTC will unlock the phone...

it'll most likely make it's debut in quad-core phones around sep/oct+ and if it comes to the rezound(may not though) it won't happen until 2013.
I say we'll see Sense 4.0 officially the same time we see ICS officially, which is probably late spring, early summer.
I don't know if we are getting sense 4.0, that might only be reserved for s4 processors and tegra 3

Saw that a little while ago. That's only going to accelerate the bad attitude towards HTC that's been building lately. So much for their flagship phones in 2012 promise, huh?
That's good for my psyche though. My jealousy meter pegged at 0 once I heard that. Not to mention ATT (I've had no real issues with them, but I've always worked out in the sticks where only E is available).

Not HTC's fault that Nvidia couldn't deliver LTE compatibility. If you're going to bash on HTC.. Why not get a different brand of phone? That's the wonders of Android! Choices! TBH we won't even need quadcore on our devices.. It's a huge unecessary hardware bump used to cover up crappy coding that Google still hasn't fixed. It's just the nature of the beast know as Android. The dualcore coming up in the one X blows away our dualcore in benches. But for everyday performance probably no difference. For everyday usage you won't notice a damn difference between the two. At this point I feel that all dual core phones are unecessary. There's just nothing in the market that really challenges the current devices on the market. All I can really see is use quadcore bench, flex epeen at smartphone benches = win? If you're talking about performance differences don't even sweat. I'm sure there will be better 3D performance on the s4 and tegra 3, but original point, nothing on the market to challenge our hardware. If you're talking about physical architecural differences in each processor, check out the wikis for each perspective processor.
honestly, i don't even care. those new phones, from the start, i KNEW were going to be for ATT or Tmo..look at the design, it's just like HTC's stuff on those carriers anyway..verizon's HTC stuff looks much different.
either way, i'm not upset in having the rezound, because honestly, it's perfect. i highly doubt any of that stuff is that much of a big step up from the rezound, so i'm def not feeling any buyers remorse lol
True that. We have the best hardware. Still....I had a rezound....took it back. Got a gnex...then ditched it for a rezound. I think this is the perfect phone. Its sturdy, and has what I want. Beats, great camera, and it has good radios...

I think i read something on either Phandroid or AndroidCentral when the S4 was announced that it actually out-benched the Tegra. If nothing else, it was close.

Hence the link that Zets just linked a few posts up. The S4 chip (which I was initially hoping the Rezound was going to be released with) is pretty bad ass and is some competition with that Quad from Invidia. I am just wondering what the power consumption would be like with the Nvidia (Quad plus one) and the Dual of the S4 chip. Curious how this will play out...
All in all, just as others have stated, these newer phones have a marginal increase in horsepower compared to the Rezound and that's pretty much it besides being released with Sense 4.0. I'll sit back and enjoy my Rez for a bit longer than I expected and happy to do so.
Without a doubt, HTC and tmo have released some pretty amazing devices, Sensation, Amaze, Mytouch 4g slide, etc... Now, the One is coming to tmo, would you upgrade to it?
Here's my opinion, apperently, the model Us carriers will get will be dual-core, because apperently LTE is not compatible with quad core CPUs. I think one of the disadvantages of getting the One is that when LTE comes out, we won't be able to use it. But, tmo's 4g is pretty good already. So, would I upgrade? Yes. Hd screen, ICS with sense 4.0, 8mp cam, to take 1080p vids and pics at the same time, pretty good.

Title is misleading because it is, also yes I will upgrade. I'm very big on photo's and the camera wouldn't be the same on the Amaze, the sensors are outstanding! Smart Flash! Sense 4.0 and way more development because the ones are a world phone! It's faster than the amaze and all benchmark test that i have seen and its running stock! Imagine custom roms! Even thought quadrant itsn't everything! Plus its smaller and thinner. Beats audio integration throughout the whole phone! I know dsp manager is their but i hate opening it all the time. So yes when it comes out I am getting the one s hands down! Also! the one S is dual core so theirs no LTE Problem im pretty sure Tmo will make it so we can use our phones otherwise thats bad marketing. Also a better front camera which will help with video conferencing I can't wait.

Its a very nice phone, definitely some nice minor upgrades over the amaze but to me it isn't worth it. I've decided to stick with the amaze and see what the Galaxy S III has to offer. I want a quad core phone with an Hd screen, I won't settle for something with capacitive buttons(with the amaze as an exception) especially now that android 4.0 supports buttons on the touch screen.
It's funny how when people hear that the US version is getting a dual core instead of the quad core people assume it's worse but in fact the Snapdragon S4(Dual Core) is faster than the Tegra 3(Quad Core) and US carriers will be getting a better phone than the UK.

Ikr! Its like the AMD P920 (Quad) and the Intel i5 (Dual) ones Dual ones quad but intel kicks that possessors A**. Plus a lot of apps aren't customized for Multi core anyway.

Plus were using phones, a quad core which actually has 5 cores would use more power than the Snapdragon S4. That is why I don't overclock my phones. Unless I can keep the voltage the same. A phone is meant for making calls and to in keep contact with people.
What would you rather have a Core i7 2600 or a FX-8150 which is slower and consumes more power but has 4 more cores?(Which are actually modules but AMD product management sucks and decide to advertise them as eight core processors)

I have an i7 2600K and 4 Crossfired AMD 6990's and that thing is a power hog, but the possessor isn't a thing with phones.
I know the minute i get an HTC One device, and find a happy home for my amaze, google wallet will be available for the amaze 4g.. With some awesome promo. Not that much of an upgrade. Im perfectly happy with my camera. Not worth it. I have a standard camera for that.
I forgot which Android blog, but I just read about a "reliable" rumor that tmo is gonna get the one x without lte capabilities (ie the international quad-core version, cuz the hspa+ is good enough they say) and it's likely going to be a "G" device - like the G1, G2, etc. which means it'll be vanilla ics.
If this is true I know exactly where every single dev is going...and I'm gonna try my hardest to follow, haha.

I've been following the hands-on reports and such from Barcelona. All I can say is,
Take everything with a grain of salt, the reporters in Barcelona are sometimes getting their facts wrong,
Details about what will be sold in the US are still not finalized,
Real world testing and independent benchmarking of the total package have not happened,
The One S (remember, T-Mo isn't getting the big dog One X) has a smaller battery, it could have even worse battery life issues,....
I'm disappointed in the chronic problems I've had with the Amaze ... I might upgrade if T-Mobile gets tired of supporting my Amaze! But ... I've just read that T-Mo might only offer the "painted" model, not the one with the plasma-anodized aluminum.
I understand the use of the S4 processor is because the LTE radio is integrated in the chip (not a separate component as in the Amaze) ... Euro LTE markets will get the S4 as well.
I understand the Tegra3 is a 4+1 chip, with a "low-power chip" for "sleep mode." Dunno if the S4 has anything comparable. Based on what I've read, I'm not sure the Tegra is better than the S4.... Anyway, AT&T's getting the S4 too, and ... I'm not sure if will be a 32GB or 16GB version of the One X.
The lack of removable battery, and lack of Micro-SD slot, are giving a lot of people concern on AndroidCentral and other Android sites. What good is a hot diggity 1080p video recorder if you only have some subset of 16GB (9GB like our Amaze?) to record with, then have to slowly upload to Dropbox? Humbug.
Also, the screen of the One S is no more higher res than the Amaze. Same size. In fact, the One X and S have a similar body to the Amaze, leading me to think the Amaze was the "first draft" of a design concept.
I think while some media sources are drinking the Kool-Aid and proclaiming the One series as the best thing since integrated circuit chips, my own impression is that both S an X comprise some glaring compromises (size for battery, cool unibody case for user-replaceable memory card).
Would I upgrade? Well ... much was made of the dedicated camera buttons on the Amaze, and guess what's noticeably missing from the One models? I used those buttons all day at the Monterey Bay Aquarium earlier this month....

You can't crossfire 4 6990's.... I have a Core i7 970 overclocked to 4.6ghz with 2 GTX 470's in SLI overclocked at 825Mhz

It's kind of hard making a quad core more efficient than a dual core when all 4 cores are going to be running constantly without powering off. If anything the HTC One X will have the same amount of battery as the One S. On HTC's website it has the specs and the Battery on the One S is a 1650 mAh and the One X is 1800. The screen on the One S is a Super AMOLED screen which is a major improvement over any of HTC's old screens.
The One X US version is getting a dual core:

ChromeJob expressed it better than I could. Keeping in mind that I'm probably older than the majority of the main demographic here and I consider my phone a tool more than a trendsetter, fashion statement, toy, and so forth, I don't see what's so great about the One S compared to the Amaze.
As I said in another subforum, the HTC One S is HTC's vision of an iPhone that runs ICS. Make key components non-user-removable, wow the press with hype, remove physical buttons (camera), dog it with some of the hardware (VGA FFC), and (likely) charge customers out the ass for it.
Also, while I did say that I don't care to have a phone as a fashion statement, aesthetics still matter in the sense that they could be a tiebreaker in deciding between phones that are otherwise close in specs. The styling of the One S is bland to me.

+1 all the One S has over the amaze is s4 processor (which i believe is better than t3) dual channel ram, and maybe a slightly better camera. (im sure its just software though)
I will not be upgrading. I can't express how good of a phone the amaze is. Its very unique looking (front maybe looks like a sensation but the back is very nice) it has an amazing build quality, it out preforms my daily tasks. Phone/SMS/Video/Pictures and a game here and there. The Amaze is still a great phone and i believe it will still be a good phone even when T3 and S4 chips come out. Once we achieve S-OFF i think there will be more developers for the amaze.
I dont know how you guys are upgrading so fast. I recently got my Amaze, and this phone just came out in oCtober of last year? not even 6 months ago. It is still a pretty expensive phone. I would rather stick with amaze love the camera and recording buttons, the 2mp front facing camera, the amazing 8Mp camera, and how reliable it is, no dropped calls or anything

I'm happy with the screen on the Amaze, SuperLCD? I've had a SGS2 owner admit that mine has nicer color, clarity, etc.

The one s has a dual core, the overseas version of the one X has a dualcore. I'm not sure about the S4, i hear its nice but what has me leaning to the quadcore is that i hear it has a small core to help save battery?

Although I'm still getting the EVO LTE, I think LG has something to be proud of here.

While the specs look beast, I'm not so sure about the LG user experience and update schedule.
I think I'm going to wait for the next HTC flagship with the quad core A15 krait and adreno 320 gpu. While the one x/evo lte is nice, its not worth signing another two year contract for. My 3D is damn fast how it is and will only get faster as mikeys development continues on his ics rom.

How will the screen compare to One X? Im not too worried about the processor or ram. My 3D does everything fine.. i dont play games or anything like that.
I've owned an LG optimus s (loved it) and my fiance had the LG revolution (worst phone ever). the difference? the optimus had sprints ui spring ID and it ran well. the revolution? that had LG's flavor and ran like the crap. The revo has way more hardware specs than the optimus, but you wouldn't have guessed it...
The thing both phones had in common... slow update schedule... er, almost nonexistent. So, I wouldn't hold my breath for LG... if this phone is this high on the hardware and is an experience like the revolution... it'll actually perform like the phones of this previous fall (excluding benchmarks - i'm talking personal user experience).
My only gripe with LG is the dismal update schedule.
Their Optimus 3D only recently recieved the Gingerbread update... Talk about late to the table.

Okay.. so it's going to release with a quad core Krait and 2GB of RAM closer to the end of the year, when that will probably be a standard in all high end phones.

wow I can't believe they actually are doing this....pairing the APQ8064 with the MDM9615.....is it really worth all that in the end?.....my answer is no b/c adding the MDM9615 likely takes up space of something else or at the very least makes things different than the normal layout of just having the one SoC with integrated modems...
They have to do it like that with the APQ8064 if in a phone b/c that SoC even though an S4 chip, it has no modem's like the others do...
personally id rather wait and get the SoC next years evo over getting this thing if it were up to me...that and its an LG...lol
Whoa...this thing seems pretty amazing. As long as the build quality and dev community were anywhere from decent to great, this phone would end up being AMAZING. I'm not so sure where all the negative speculation about the "LG experience" is coming from, I haven't heard much negativity about them in the past. Most feedback towards them seems pretty indifferent and/or good. I can't imagine any experience being all that bad with the amount of customization that we have on Android.
Assuming I don't give in and get the EVOLTE (that's what i'v decided to call it btw, lol) or SGSIII i'll definitely be keeping an eye out for this...

I haven't really been keeping up with the new phones and the ones coming out, I had no intention of selling my amaze anytime soon.. but I found this page(http://www.digitaltrends.com/highlight/t-mobile/) and saw they are still listing our amaze - I thought for sure websites would have stopped pushing it.. then I saw that tmobile is now selling the amaze for free! Damn you tmo!
But I was wondering what people thought about other phones that are coming out? I did some light researching and the galaxy s3 euro version looks pretty nice, with the quad core - why the US versions they keep pulling that out, I have no idea.. but 2100mah battery (that can be accessed!) and external sd, the camera pics and video look good(but still not as good as ours) - overall it seems a good competitor.
But rather than do tons more research, I'm sure some people here have some phones they are salivating about, or perhaps pissed off(dual core S2 for the US, wtf?!) about.. and I figured I'd say hi here rather than just stalk the development forums like usual!
So what's good?
I'm keeping it simple, first quad core HTC phone T-Mobile gets will be mine! Keeping my amaze until then

that is about how I feel, but I'm not a true htc cannot yet.. so I won't discriminate yet. My old vibrant was okay, but I felt the quality was low enough I'd be hesitant to go with Samsung again..
Everyone else is fair game, if another manufacturer makes a quality quad core, that is when I'd consider a jump from the amaze.. but I haven't been doing a lot of research into what is coming out till now.
And can ANYONE explain why these manufacturers thing quad core is good over seas, but dual core is what WE want? Or do they think we'll just buy it if they just sell it!?

That's because we US folks complain about battery life all the f**** time. Many will even sacrifice performance for battery life like underclocking the Amaze from 1.5 to 1.2Ghz. Sarcastically speaking... these folks will buy a quad-core only to find themselves again complain about battery life. What do they do? They will downgrade to dual-core to have a couple of more hours of battery. Companies are hearing these folks.

that is true. But with the Galaxy s3 coming out with dual core here in the U.S, main reason is quad core exynos doesn't support LTE just yet.

wait for one of the AOSP devices coming to Tmobile. Show these manufacturers that they need to stop focusing on coding unnecessary skins and leave the Android system vanilla, and instead focus on making better hardware that utilizes the power of the processing chips more efficiently in the way that WP phones do out of the box. and better cameras, better quality materials and most importantly, maximizing battery life.
i know i'll be going for whatever Jelly Bean device i'm assuming Tmobile will get. if not i'll just purchase whatever GSM unlocked one Google Play decides to sell.
Actually the reason why they us in the US are getting dual cores and not quads is due to a chipset issue, apparently only qualcom has the rights/patents to make modems for US bands, mainly the HSPA+ and LTE band we use, so in order to use those bands on the original chipset that they use for the international version, they'll have to add an extra chipset, the qualcom chipset modem, which will give you the US radio, but will increase battery use, which basically no company wants, apple does this but it's kicking their ass as well with multiple chipsets in a device. So you gotta thank US patents/copyrights along with qualcom for us being stuck with a dual core and at the rate things are going, we'll be pretty much stuck with what qualcom puts out yearly in our devices for quite a few years to come. Though if T-Mobile refarms that 1900 band we should be able to start picking up a few international versions and using them on T-Mobile, though I doubt T-Mobile as a carrier is gonna offer them if they're not packing 42mbps, until they throw out LTE.

Right on! All issues can be overcome if they really want it badly. It's a matter of time. Business wise, time is what many companies cannot afford due to competition. Supply and demand in an overly competitive industry is at stake.
I haven't seen anything I'd like to upgrade to. The amaze is more then capable for what I need out of a phone, and will be plenty fast for the next year. Phones just aren't progressing as fast as they did even a couple years back. When I first got my hero there was a newer faster phone out almost monthly. Even with quad core, yes it may be faster on paper, 'woohoo quadrant drag racing my phone beat your phone', but when it comes to day to day use how much faster can you really go? My hero, when I first played with it I could see room for improvement, with the amaze, not so much.

Actually, you made some really valid points - I was talking to someone yesterday about how technology hasn't really improved THAT much in the last 20+ years besides a few things, pretty much everything is the same and it is just getting smaller and faster.. and that is more so true at this point. Phones, computers, until they do something different or better, the increases in speed is becoming meaningless.
For me the selling point on the quad core is the 5th core with the lower clock speed that handles the non-heavy lifting and is supposed to increase battery. I would probably just shut off 2 of the cores and keep that benefit.. If you actually understand how multi-core cpus work then you know that they each handle a different thread(or task) - it has no benefit having more than 2 cores unless there are more than 2 things that need to be done at once(like processing video and audio at the same time).
The BIGGEST change I would like to see with all of these advances in technology - make a better battery. The military has several battery technologies that are far more efficient than what we have access to.. as soon as those things go public, THEN we might have some true awesomeness.. until then we can only make things faster and/or more efficient.

So much, I will more than likely keep this phone till next contract, which is a year plus away. Does everything I need.
I probably stand a lone ground on this, but with what I said up top.....I would consider a BB10 phone as long as it is QWERTY. Really miss my physical keyboard. If they can bring some better apps to the table with a decent screen and still decent battery, I may switch. I don't care about market share ....I get what I want, not what is in....
