Game play? - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am thinking of going with the TB. Anyone know for sure if it will play a game like pocket legends better than the dinc? Almost went with iPhone just because of how smooth that game is on there but in the end just couldn't do it.
Thanks!

Since it plays on my Nexus S just as good if not better then my Ipod Touch. I would bet that it Plays great on this phone too.

Games?? Android has games?

the ram is way over kill I doubt it will have any problem running anything anytime soon... I just want to play gun bros on a bigger screen than my incredible...
is your incredible rooted? cause I have never had any problem with lag on anything I ever run

I actually heard a guy talking on youtube unboxing this phone saying it benchmarks better 3d than the tegra 2. I hope nvidia is fail because motorola is trying to stay afloat with it.

[Q] Gameloft Games on Rezound

Hi, long time reader, first time poster.. Had a question for fellow Rezound owners...
Is anyone having issues with gameloft games, even the hd ones? They load and videos are full screen but when goes into actual game its about a third of the screen and all the buttons dont match where you have to touch the screen for them to respond. I also had this issue attempting to play the Quake 3 Arena port.Am I wrong in guessing we are just gonna have to wait for devs to patch games for the newer hi-res phones? Thanks in advance.
not sure on those, but I have Samurai II: Vengeance and ShadowGun which are also HD games and they play fine. although they do manage to make the phone run hot and slowly drain the battery while its charging... õ_Ô
Thanks for the quick reply. Went and tried both those games, they look fantastic! But I see what you mean, the phone warms up considerably, I am hesitant to keep playing those games, how much heat can it withstand I wonder.
As long as the phone is only hot when playing games, it is fine. If the phone's heat isn't hurting your hands, then it is fine.
Yeah i noticed that some games won't download the extra content and some like Splinter Cell don't have any buttons at all.
hmmm... if we could somehow keep dry ice close to the back of the phone. ó_ó
If it is a game that says optimized for tablets, I would assume it should work with our phone. If tablets are not supported, you are probably going to have scaling issues. I could be wrong.
It seems Gameloft games are out until they optimize them for the the higher resolution then, too bad, they are putting out some great looking games. Do any of you Rezound owners have any other game recommendations. Samurai II and Shadowrun are amazing, does anyone know any other compatible great games? Thanks in advance.
I don't play games, but I did play the NFS demo which was pretty cool.
Scrabble on Rezound
The Scrabble that EA makes for Android sure gets screwed up on the Rezound. It can't handle the 1280x720 it would seem, so you get a tiny little game in the upper left of the screen and a bunch of crap everywhere else. It's just barely playable in the tiny upper-left corner.

Nova 2 didnt work fine for me.

Does this phone have issues gaming also?

According to Gizmodo in their HTC One X review, the phone had issues playing 3D games. They specifically mentioned Temple Run, and the phone not picking up certain inputs due to the CPU being overloaded or something. Sounds iffy to me, so I'm seeing if anyone is able to replicate this kind of thing with the LTEVO, thanks!

When playing Temple Run, I notice an occasional blip where it hesitates for just a moment. Enough to make you smash into a tree though if you're not careful. Doesn't happen often thought, and I can't find a pattern of when it happens.

Playing Stair Dismount on mine there is a lot of slowdown
Def not bc of lack of power I'm sure they just need to be optimized for the EVO..
If you think about it, there are only three Android phones with HD screens on the market right now. Most games are probably not yet optimized for that resolution as well. Even Apple doesn't have HD screens in their phones yet. Handset HD rendering is a rather novel feature.

I remember when I bought the OG Evo, it seemed to everyone like it was underperforming in the game department. People said it would be fixed with updates and it didn't work because of this or that, but eventually we just realized the hardware wasn't up to snuff. I don't want to make the same mistake with my next purchase, so how bad is it really? Are there any high-end games that run perfectly? How does shadowgun play?
I've played all those games on my 3d ..and they played great..so with a greatly improved CPU and a oc-d gpu its def not hardware ...the s4 is top notch..and ur not go.na have too choice since almost all high end phones coming to the US will utilize the s4

I agree but something is wrong I am having small issues with many games that ran fine on the 3d and OG. For instance just downloaded Nba Jam tonight and it studders and lags the whole time un playable. This game was running pretty good on my EVO last week.
So I agree it is not the hardware but something needs fixed. Sounds like the HD screen issue may be to blame

I will go check it out. I am not saying that it is the issue but someone mentioned it and it sounds possible that these may not be optimized for our screen yet I know when qhd was first hitting the market some apps had trouble with it. It has to be something though because there is no way this hardware cannot run apps that ran fine on my OG it just doesn't add up.
Any one get Demolition Inc working on this thing yet?
Shadowrun plays nice and smooth no issues with that game.

Possible Fix
I don't have the 4g LTE yet I am a current 3D owner. Am trying to decide between GNex and LTEvo but that's another topic...
From what I've read somewhere else (can't quote where from) the fix was to bump your minimum cpu speeds up a notch and will probably fix most/all your lag. Use Antutu or other choice program (rooted only of course) and bump your min clock speed up one or two spots and I bet you don't run into issues.
If this doesn't work then ignore...thanks!
Shadowrun plays really smooth, and I'm amazed with the graphics. Looks sweet!
I was hoping this phone would game better than my gnex but so far it's not doing what I had hoped for. GTA3 has awful audio quality and I have to turn the settings down to low and lower res and other settings to get it to play lag free. I don't think it's any better than my gnex was. I am hoping the game needs an update.
Well I'm disappointed that a lot of the best looking 3D games do not work.
Not Working:
All Gameloft games EXCEPT Order & Chaos (but it still crashes some)
Even the brand new N.O.V.A. 3 doesn't work
Mass Effect Infiltrator
Dead Space
Field Runners
Working:
GTA III
Shadowgun
Minecraft
Deer Hunter Reloaded
Galaxy on Fire 2
Gentlemen, the phone has not even officially been launched yet.
Once game devs figure it out the games will run fine on our hardware. It is fact that our phones are more powerful than the 3D or the Gnex so it just needs to be optimized. On top of that, imagine how our phones will fly on a nice aosp Rom...

Whats the main limitation(s) for the S3s gaming capability?

Good evening ladies and gents.
I'm about to jump off the fence and buy a new phone (and since I'm posting here I guess you've figured that I'm seriously considering the S3). But before I choose I want to know which games I can expect to be able to play. I stumbled onto the Tegra Zone a few months after I bought my Desire HD and was quite disappointed that it didn't support the content. I know the S3 doesn't have Tegra but stil a lot of the games are still supported/available.
I've now read through dozens of threads but I'm unable to find out how one figures out which games the S3 can run. In some cases I see thats it's just the "ultra high" setting that isn't supported (1. is this correct?). 2. Is there a different version of most games that are meant for non-Tegra devices or is it the exact game but some of which lack the highest graphics settings? Lastly: 3. Are there any games that S3 owners won't be able to play in the foreseeable future?
I would really appreciate input to any of my questions. Have a good day/night
It runs Mali-400 games and if you decide to Root just install Chainfire 3D and you can run most Tegra and any other games.
Gaming is very good. Thats all i have to say
Sorry i couldnt be of more help.
Have u tried looking on the playstore? With a friends phone or on the web page. Google searched? There is a thread about good ganes in the s3

S3 can play anything but Tegra3 Specific games, there is an app made by Chainfire it's called "Chainfire3D" where it emulates all different graphic chips in the market, so basically you can play all non-tegra and tegra games that aren't Tegra3 specifc as mentioned above. The app needs root in order to work. Dead trigger is the latest game to come out and it plays VERY nice and smooth. Shadowgun tegra2 version works, Pinball THD, Fruit Ninja THD, NBA Jam works nice PES2011, Blood and Glory work pretty well... I'm not much into gaming, those are the games I own, and I can say they are the ones that will hammer the CPU and GPU pretty good. I'm not sure what you mean with "ultra high settings" everything works. remember that the screen size is 1280x800 so some games that are made for smaller screen will have black bars or some cropping or some weird behavior, but I've only seen that on "time killer" games, can't recall which game was that showed this behavior, but still playable.
Hope that straight things out a bit for you.
Chain fire helps with some tegra games but it's not perfect eg sonic 4 ep 2 lags like treacle and some tegra games don't work at all. However the graphics hardware in the gs3 is the fastest in the world for a smartphone so there's a lot of potential. But tbh gaming without hardware buttons is pretty crap anyway.

Thank you all for your replies.
I had already read through the post you mentioned slking1989 but even though it assured me that a lot of quality games are supported it didn't give me a definite answer regarding how to determine beforehand if a game will run or not (like "system requirements" or similar). I'm guessing the reason HQ games doesn't show up in the Play store on my current phone is that it doesn't support themn thus it's no points showing them but since I don't have the phone yet I wanted to do some research.
My choice is between the S3 and the HOX but after your replies the S3 was pushed further ahead in the race (only kept back by the insecurity around Tegra games really). Now I just have to decide which color to get.
This may help u decide

Non compatible games really starting to get to me.

First it was Angry Birds Star Wars. Now, I can't download Modern Combat 4 or GTA Vice City for this phone.
Why can't this phone play those games? I am beginning to get annoyed with this.
-DJ
Because its the first 1080p display and devs haven't worked on it to accommodate yet.
Also, Angry Birds Star Wars HD works. Just gotta shell out cash for it. Which is why I haven't bothered with it. It's a time killer at work, but not worth money to me.
I have the paid version of Angry Birds SW HD and as soon as I click on a level, the app exits. I hear this is the norm for DNA owners.
I just want to play the games, they don't have to make it 1080p for me to enjoy them. If it's the screen ratio they are worried about, just either stretch it or black bar it on the screen.
All you could do is email the app developer about it. Though as it stands now, a very very small percentage of android users have a 1080p display so the incentive for developers to update their apps to accommodate it is very minimal. Such is the downside of the early adopter. Of course, it will get much better is 2013 as most high-end phones are likely to come out with 1080p displays.

dont think of the resolution as much as the Pixel density... here is a list of pixel density of just about every phone is under 300ppi or just above... Iphone retina displays are 326... samsung Galaxy s3(306ppi) and Note 2(267ppi) .... I almost think app developers are scared to let us download it and it look like crap so they just lock it out from the market... MC4 looks great and plays awesome on my DNA but the fact that I had to buy it on my Nexus7 and transfer the backup to my DNA to get it to work is alot of work. Hope they get around to figuring this out sooner than later.

I can't run Reign of Amira on the phone. It loads for 3 second and just stuck on a screen with girls pic, without menu. May be it is restricted to Verizon users only? Could it be possible? Cause when i try to download it from Play, it says - available only for Verizon... Any idea how to run it?
Angry birds star wars doesn't work. It will run and let you get to the menus but as soon as you click level one it crashes with absolutely no error message whatsoever

It would look exactly the same on a DNA as any other 1080p device. It would actually look better on the DNA than on a tablet because the pixels are closer together.

Official gaming

Pls post all game related issues here. What for? Well I don't know about u guys Buh the game incompatibility issue is killing me...I really want to enjoy gaming on my DNA....we all know the gpu is good enough for most graphic intensive games out there, and even tough that screen is demanding, this phone should have no problem handling games. I have been forwarding reports to game devs via email....and I know they will work on it if we pressure them...so post the game, the issue u having and developer...I will forward it to them.....I am one hell of a gamer and I can't watch my DNA sit there like that, when it has one of the mist powerful CPUs and GPUs out there.
Apart from complaining, you can share your gaming experience on this monster....and help other folks with issues...

Ok here are a few:
Need for speed most wanted- When side loaded the game starts and loads only show HUD in race unfortunately
Dark meadow - says it's compatible in store, crashes on menu
Galaxy on fire 2 - small buttons (resolution issue)
All I can think of right now... Aside from those this phone is a beast with anything I throw at it

Something I'll bet a lot of us didn't figure on when drooling over this 1080p resolution
Very few games work. Knowing what I know now, I would not have traded my unlimited
data plan to get this phone. Sure, I can watch beautiful Netflix movies but, I have to worry
about data now. I just want a good GOLF game really.
