[Q] Retarded Archos 43 - Help - Gen8, Gen9, Gen10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I bought an Archos 43 a month ago and I think it is defective. For example, it crashes about 5-8 times a day for no reason. The camera does not work very well, since it crashes and saying something about codec when playing the video I just recorded. When left alone, it starts doing random things to try to crash itself. After enduring this thing for a month, I finally decided to system restore it and when I tried to install the Third Party Applications it says that there are none to install. So Now I do not have Android Market Place and this device is pretty much useless. Does anyone else ever have this sort of problem, cause I doubt it?

You can find the apps here ftp://support.archos.com/

Mine has only crashed once in a week. However many apps FC making them unusable. I.e. The XDA app

The camera is awful! I've noticed freshly recorded videos don't play but if you wait a while they do play. Bad.

Mine doesn't do that but it drains the battery alarmingly fast when left alone.
Mine is running firmware 2.1.4, I haven't root'd and I did install Market via gappsinstaller

Can't say that I have but I am considering a complete wipe and restore in an attempt to improve battery life.

Yes, marketplace is installed. I followed the directions found in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=867303'
I am pleased to say it appears to be working just fine. I haven't noticed any apps missing.

Ok I got marketplace reinstalled. Now it sometimes flashes the home screen randomlly, so I had to reboot it. Afterwards it works fine. However after a certain amount of time it starts flashing the home screen again. I think this thing might be possessed.

Possibly some heavy-duty protection so they can't be rooted!
More than likely just the same stuff they did in honeycomb.. like the quick links up the top. And a wicked sick browser that crashes without fail when ever you attempt to have a few tabs open, and dare to browse for more than 5 minutes

My browser crashes once a day at most and that's no worse than my laptop browser. You just have to set your expectations low and you'll never be disappointed.
I don't understand that. My browser hasn't crashed once (yet). Not the stock, not Dolphine HD. Only crach I had is android.something.media but that I solved with cleaning casch and data.
are you on the latest firmware? I'm pretty sure the crashing came with that, though I could be mistaken.
If you've never updated then you are still on the old one.

If your content with that, thats great for you, but unfortunately my experiences differ greatly .
Sometimes it will crash 5 times in 30 minutes, other time it will crash, I will go back in and go to the same site, and instant crash (no more than 15 seconds after first crash).
On my phone browser I experience 1 crash maybe every couple of weeks, and the amount of tabs I have running on that bad boy sometimes is insane.
We pretty much bought a tabelt to have the conveniece of larger screen web browsing, without having need to turn on the laptop everytime we wanted to look up a quick recipe or something. It is most certainly not convenient
EDIT: I should also add, I have factory reseted twice already trying to resolve another issue, and this problem has been present everytime.
You should probably try a different laptop internet broswer also! lol. Mine only crashes if there's a tonne of adult content loading in the form of flash videos across a plethora of opened tabs

I am on the latest firmware. Was the first hing I did with the tablet. version 3.2.1 (revision2) I think it says. Works good for me (knock on wood).
Maybe clear cache/data can help? I guess you have tried that a million times already.

I come from a iPad 1 and since the last update the browser crashed a few times a day.
Now with my Tablet S the browser seems much more reliable, only had one crash with the default browser in 4 days..
Interesting as I've never had a browser crash lol
My browser only crashed once since i have my tablet S. I have it for two months now. And now I'm on the latest update and still doesn't have problems with the browser. I use the default browser and I spent at least an hour or three of web browsing on my tablet everyday. The most tab I open up though was 3. I never really need any more than that. it works fine for me so don't blame Sony just cause yours doesn't. why don't you try a factory reset? maybe that will help you. factory reset sometime fixes bugs and glitches that may occur during an update.
I have several times. It's a common issue with the tablet so lets not go saying "mine fine it's you" sort of things :\. I believe it is related to flash content.
well, I appologize but mine IS fine. If it's flash related then you can turn it off in browser setting. if you turn it off, flash content would show up as a blank white box with green arrow instead.

Z3v Overheating

My phone has been over heating. A LOT. Even with basic use. No gaming or anything. Anyone experience this? I called tech and they were no help. Told me to run in safe mode and remove my SD card..... Ya that won't work for me.
Thinking about full wipe but I dread resetting up everything.

I haven't had any issues like that. Only over heading I experienced were while using car navigation while wireless charging. You can try shopping cache plus restart to see if something is stuck, or if you have a new installation freeze that and see if things get better.
Another thing to look at is detailed battery use, see if there is any surprises. Many times the app that causes heating will also cause faster battery drain. If you can't find the app then full wipe may be needed.
Edit: one other question, did you change case recently? some cases don't transfer heat as well.
I did. A lot. Got to the point that I could take one picture and the camera would shut off because it was over heating. Hard reset didn't fix anything. I also had wireless problems (wifi would never stay off, airplane mode didn't work), and battery life was pretty poor (coming from Note 2). Replacement phone seems much better on all counts.
Thanks for the info guys. No case on the phone. Still working on rooting and playing with Xposed.... Maybe something there will help.... Or just have Verizon send a new one. I really do love this phone... So hopefully I can resolve this.... Maybe lollipop will help... If we ever get it....

I found that using settings reset is just below factory reset cleaned up my issues. It retains your programs and data.

Update
So had Verizon send me a new phone..... Have had it a day and a half and have already seen signs of over heating...... Granted it's close to 100 outside..... But I've been in the car with AC using GPS and it was getting really warm. I've had SEVERAL other phones with the same or more heavy usage with no over heating issues......
Not sure what to do. If it keeps up I'm going to have to consider a new phone....
Anyone know of any risks using the phone when it's over heating??? It's not going to explode or catch fire is it???

Same here. I can use the camera on this one but this is annoying. Might sell and go back to my trusty Note 2 that still hasn't sold anyway.
Anybody find any workarounds (besides the tin-foil inside the case thing)? I get camera shut-down after just playing around with the various modes without even recording anything. Thinking about getting an ice-pack to mount on the phone when I want to record videos......

I was having the overheat issue when I used the camera, so i downloaded the google camera app and it seems to work better.
My wife and I got refurbished phones from VZW, her's crashes to home screen now (Camera) and mine works for a few minutes longer than the old one.
Right now I am looking into getting a new phone, this one is getting annoying, want something I can get current Android version on and not a year old unpatched (Stagefright) leak that is not even Marshmallow.

Stuttering sound issue

Hello, today, I bought a new Moto Z and updated it to the latest version(NPL25.86-30). Before updating however, I tried out some of the apps I often use and while testing a game I very often play(Love Live! School Idol Festival) I get the problem of stuttering sound. Any time I click on anything in the menu it stutters or crackles a bit, it's very annoying and hard to ignore/miss. This also occurs when playing the game, where you click very rapidly, making the stuttering/crackling sound even more apparent and unbearable.
Have anyone else heard of an issue like this and maybe knows the cause(Yes, I have searched around but haven't found anything properly similar, maybe I suck at searching)? Is it hardware related and a replacement phone might be to consider? I have yet to do any rooting or other warranty-breaking modifications.
Maybe someone else who got a Moto Z could download this specific app and see what happens for you(Be aware it might take a while to download, the app itself is 80~MB and then it will download some more, idk how much but it took like 10 mins for me).
None of my older phones(those being a Note 1 and Note 4) had issues like this(And before you ask me to just play on them, one is too old and slow and the other's internal memory have failed).
Thanks in advance, Nukezone.
Judging from the reviews of the app, I would suppose that it's a bug in the game (one of a long list) and not your device. Does your Z make this sound in any other application @Nukezone?

I have tried to replicate the issue in other apps but it doesn't occur anywhere else. So I also suspect it to be app related, but at the same time it's a bit strange that this is the only phone this app have bugged on(for me at least). I'll go to a store today that got the phone on display and try to install it there and see if the error still occurs, if it does, I'll leave it at that, I love the Moto Z otherwise so I really dont want to have to return it. @squallz506
Well none of your other phones had Android 7.0. I'd install it but it's a whopping 600mb add on file.
My Note 4 does have Android 7.1. Not stock, naturally. It's internal memory is more or less broken, it works sometimes and sometimes i get mmc_read failed. Either way, it worked enough to try and start the app in question and test the issue and it does not occur on the Note 4 with Android 7(.1).
I guess I'll just live with it. Maybe a future update of either the OS or app fixes it.
Thanks for your suggestions at least. ^-^

My device is xiaomi Mi6 with android 7.1.1. It seems like the OS is too new for the game! I have the exact same problem: the more perfects(tap on the note) per minute the more the sound laggs. Newer game (bandori) has no problem than this SIF 2013 game.
Did you find anything? Let me know please.

Music skipping/popping

Hi, has anyone had any popping, crackling, or skipping when listening to music? I get it about twice to 3 times per hour when listening to spotify or local music. There was one time in particular where i was listening to music, when opening the recents menu and opening a recent app caused a serious crackling distortion.
Should I return my phone?
Side note: have tried safe mode. Crackling still occurs. Have tried repeating the same file. Crackilng does not occur at the same time.
Second side note: on version 119. Phillipines has no updates beyond that.
Mine does it too. This phone has more bugs than a bush tucker trial!
Haha. Yeah, it does. I've also have had apps randomly open sometimes and another music player play for a few seconds when I press play on Spotify, then return to spotify. I'm planing to try and have my handset exchanged tomorrow at the store. Hopefully they will.
I do believe this phone has really great potential, if only it wasn't so buggy.
Had too sometimes.
However, I think problem is Oreo, not the phone!
I want to believe it's oreo, since everything else on my phone works great (minus the hiccups mentioned above). No wifi or reception issues. Not even sure I want to get a replacement and do a lottery again.
so glad to see its not just me. phone is terribly buggy. settings turning on and off. sometimes after being on the phone for like 5 mins, the phone locks itself. sometimes without me even touching the phone eg when im watching youtube with it propped up on my desk. has anyone who exchanged their phone actually received one that doesnt have these issues though?
whats up with the blue light remaining on in settings when you turn a setting off? UI nightmare
Hmm. This makes me think we should run a poll so we can identify the common issues everyone is having to rule out hardware issues.

A lot has to be with Oreo as these issues don't exist in other Huawei phones. Also i wonder if some of these unreleased roms that folks are using have bugs in it compared to the official roms received via OTA.

Force 18:5 aspect ratio for unoptimized games

As the title says: Is there a way to force games into a 18:5 ratio? Most games don't work properly yet and have visual issues or are simply unplayable. I added 2 less extreme example.
PS: I'm talking about something like Samsungs app scaling settings. This phone is missing this option which is one of the biggest problems right now. Apps are obviously not always optimized for 21:9 yet so this is a neccesity. I hope Sony reacts to it as fast as possible.
Got a typo in the title. Can some moderator change this? That's a thing xda-developers needs to improve.
