Any VOLUME HACK? - G Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Folks.. I am Runming TNT Lite.. Are there any Volume Hacks (for lack of a better term) that will boost the unit's Speaker output. Everything on my end is pretty low.
Thanks
R

+1. Vegan has a great volume increase. It would be great if it could be added to other roms.

I'm looking for something to increase the volume on TNT Lite. Anyone?

Maybe someone can ask Wildmonks to develop an Audio Boost Kernel like the ones he has for the Nexus One?
Edit: I sent Wildmonks an email, lets hope we get a reply.
=o)

Glad to see it's not just me who notices it..

Anyone figure anything out on this?

Anyone?
I'm on Calkulin and Clemsyn 1.5, and the volume seems to be on the low side.
Anyone with an update or suggestions? TIA

I use power amp for listening to music. It has a really good preamp that boosts the speaker output quite a bit. Of coarse, this doesn't help for movies our anything else, but if it works in power amp, it makes me wonder if anyone knows of any app that will allow audio boost no matter what rom you're on.

Best audio boost method?

Anyone had any success with an app to boost the speaker volume of the NC?
I read that Audio Boost 2 doesn't alter speaker volume much. I have not tried anything yet, but would any audio app with an EQ function allow boosting all freqs. work? I know that there is a chance of overdriving the speaker, but I want to try to get this "fixed". The speaker volume is the single most annoying issue with my NC. Mainly with sources with audio tracks that are recorded at low level.
Any help is appreciated.

Obviously, no-one did much. The worst part is NC's CM7 devs don't see it as a problem.
However, if you could talk dalingrin into looking into the issue (I myself failed to entice him to do anything), then there are some chances with his forthcoming new audio pipeline/ALSA commits.
As of now, when on CM7, you may try to play with DSP Manager's equalizer. Doesn't do much, agreed.

Only luck I'm having is headphones. Its really bad when the speaker is pushed up against the back of my case. Volume is horrible.
Use earphones will be the best bet for the time being.. Unless is CM7 got vol boost...
you can try poweramp, it has audio boost eq
yes its work withe me
Played around with Poweramp. Adjusted EQ midrange boost, keeping bass low & boosted Preamp setting & have determined that the speaker may just suck! Unless Poweramp EQ is adding distortion when the levels are boosted, the speaker can't handle much volume before breaking up. There may be no hope that the NC will ever have decent volume.
I find the volume on many sources to be barely adequate for personal listening in a quiet room, but for showing another person a video in a not so quiet environment, it is barely audible. I have also noted that the audio quality from the headphone jack is really poor when compared to any decent MP3 player. Looks like B&N saved $$$ on the audio section in order to bring us the nice screen & other quality hardware. I think that I am OK with this, but it would be nice to have it ALL!
Cheers,

P. S. This may end my search for an internal solution to the volume level. Probably keep experimenting with small phone jack based amplified speakers.
The volume seems fine to me.
Hopefully we can have a stable Bluetooth stack working, so that we can pipe to audio to BT Speakers...
I really think the physical speaker is just crap. At the end of the day, you can't fix crap.

That's the conclusion that I am coming to. Seems B&N found it necessary to keep the output level low so the speaker doesn't break up. Be fun to remove it & connect another more efficient one that can handle more power. I think I will continue to experiment with the small headphone connected powered speakers.

I would be interested in seeing how much it would cost to solder in a "good" speaker.. I would think there would be a bit more space to squeeze in a decent speaker or possibly two?
First thing I thought of before I even bought my nook was what speaker was I going to buy for it! When I saw it in stores, I knew there was no way that speaker was going to do anything, and it made me wonder why it's even there. Considering that it's not loud enough for audio books really and mp3's would just play way too low, I think they should have just left it out and added 2 aux ports! Okay, that might not be realistic, but still!
I've opted for a portable iHome speaker from Wal-mart(it's the one that is a round cylinder and if you buy two you can have them hook to each other) for only $20 and should be getting it today. Unfortunately my PSP speakers blew out or that would be perfect for the nook since those things were loud enough to start a party.
Try my mumusicon it has got a sub increase function and that increased my nc's speaker volume more than 40 percent without causing distortion

I wonder if its possible to add in one of those tiny compact laptop subs too. My dell xps has one on it, they might be too thick though.

I think it's a typo. I searched the Market and found "MyMusicOn Music Player".

Well, I dnlded Mymusicon & don't see any way to adjust the volume???
Edit: OK, tapped the album art screen & got another menu. Under "volume" there is a "sub" adj. that increases volume some.
I use DSP Manager to just raise all the EQ levels all the way up. It's pretty loud now.
stoopid but helpful
With the CN facing you in landscape, hold it up with your left hand. Put your right hand palm flat on the back of the device, gradually moving your palm to the right. You find a 'sweet spot' where the speaker is amplified about 50% by reflecting towards you off your palm.
Play around a little & you learn if your hand should be half way out from under the CN at the right side for loudest clearest sound (what sounds best to me) or palm cupped or flat.
An easy DIY aplifier would be a piece of flat plastic (like cut from milk bottle) adhered with a tiny bit of velcro at the 'sweet spot'. Could be detatched for travel, not need bulky external speakers, yet deliver noticably louder sound.

[APP] Volume+ app for Gingerbread (works well with CM7/Netflix)

I came across this app, Volume+, in the N1 forums, I confirmed that it works on latest CM7. This may have been posted previously, but it improves volume significantly and I wanted to share. The NC's low volume made netflix hard to hear, even with Dalingrin's volume mods in the kernel at max.
The app was written by meltus and he has graciously allowed the xda community to use his app free of charge, .99 in the market if you would like to support the app.

It makes things a bit louder, but the sound is super distorted... Even through headphones the sound on my nook is incredibly quiet.
Use the DSP app that comes with CM7, works ok for boosting the volume up a bit and you can tune down the eq to the frequencies that distort on the crappy Nook speaker and boost the rest. Still the improvements are marginal at best, but its the only thing I've found that works at all.
Maybe the Volume+ app and the DSP together might inch us up a bit more?

Sorry, I should have clarified. I did tune a bit in DSP. Additionally, having the NC in a case against the back speaker helps a great deal too. This app doesn't fix the sound issue, but it makes it a bit easier to hear video from a couple feet away.
My speaker volume is fine, but the headphone volume is what's super quiet. I run cm7 nightly 87 and it got much quieter with the latest dalingrin kernel.

[Q] How can I raise wired earpiece volume?

Back when I originally got my SGS2 I came across a program that allowed me to basically pump up the volume for my headset output by a rather large amount. I'm fine with the audio through the built in earpiece as well as the back speaker. The volume via a wired headset (not a fan of BT) is very low though.
Anyone care to tell me if they're using anything to achieve this? For the life of me I can't find it...
Maybe volume +?

Sorry! My bad! I didn't understand that volume+ is an actual app!
Yeah it was the Audio Boost program below. I have it set to volume level 86 and it works perfect for what I need.

[Q] ACID Audio - Questions

Hello all,
I just flashed ACID audio (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1923630) because of the rave reviews that it gets, and everything went smooth on CleanRom 3.5. I chose all universal options instead of Samsung, because I didn't see the N2 listed. It installs the ACID audio notifier, and when I plug my headset in, it shows that ACID audio is working. However, I forgot to actually listen to music on the N2 before I installed ACID audio to do a comparison .... does anybody know if you can turn ACID audio off and on to do comparisons? I don't see an option anywhere. Yeah, it sounds pretty good. But it's hard to tell how much it actually does without a benchmark.
FWIW, I assume that ACID audio universally affects sound from all apps, including Spotify, which is where my I listen to my music (as opposed to their Walkman player or what not).
Thanks a ton!
In my honest opinion, as a fledgling audiophile and not knowing ACID: Unless its hardware amplification, its not worth it. You need both good amplification and good headphones.
I noticed a HUGE sound quality difference while I was running one of the few custom roms. But something else I noticed is that when I have had audio quality drops its usually been running custom kernel as well.
So you may end up needing to flash a new rom if yiu can't disable the audio boost. I think the Note 2 drives on ear headphones well so I think anything except full sized headphones should be fine sans amplification

Okay so I have spent the last hour installing pretty much everything from the ac¡d page and came to one conclusion...
They do little to nothing on this phone. I tried every add on and combo you could. the only thing that did remotely anything is the noozy addon and it wasn't much.
I got pretty much the same quality sound by going into the stock player and adjusting the eq...(main thing is taking the clarity slider all the way up)
Now the reason may be that I'm running an aftermarket kernel. Who knows ...but I have uninstalled everything and am back stock. I truly don't think everything installed as it should. I think there is supposed to be more just from reason the op.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for the replies guys; I guess I'll keep it the way it is now. I know on the DNA it made a noticeable difference, but maybe that's just hardware?
i think this device running perseus kernel is nothing short of amazing! i had to turn down the amplification in stweaks but man the speaker sounds amazing for a phone.
i know this is a bad comparison but we compared you tube vids lastnight between a older iphone and my gn2...l it was like comparing a old am radio to a hifi home theater system!

No I completely agree. .. I've used stweaks audio tab and the built in eq in the stock player to make it sound amazing (main speaker and phones) even when hooked to my truck which has a full blown 1600 dollar aftermarket stero system in it, I can cancel the eq in there cause the sound coming out is right.
So the acid audio maybe be working but the sound is already right and it doesn't seem like its doing anything..
Just attached my son's Darth Vader headphones (oh yea thats how we rock it out) to my Note and I am blown away as I listen to Slaughterhouse - My Life and the bass is amazing for some Walmart kids-phones. I think the audio stock is pretty good. I tried beats on my Fascinate and I really didn't see wut the fuss was. Any who just my two pennies loving this phone with my Vader-phones!

mixer_paths.xml

So I went into /system , /etc , and looked for mixer_paths.XML file so that I could increase the kindles speaker volume but lo and behold the mixer_paths.XML file is not there. Does anyone know what happened to it? What file did amazon stick the volume presets in?
Any of you awesome devs ever figured this out? Would liketo increase the speaker volume using this method

Hello conan1600
The presets for speaker volume are in /system/vendor/amazon/smartvolume/
I have played about with these but any significant increase comes at the cost of distortion. Could be a side effect of how the audio system is wired - not sure at the moment. I am planning to eliminate this smartvolume stuff with a major update to audio stack.
