Has a Swpe port been done? - Nook Color Themes and Apps

Has anyone got swpe to work on the nook color? or is it not even allowed?
I would be willing to work on the port if I am allowed to.
once I get a nook color that is.
If I am allowed to dont expect anything soon, I need a nook, I need more java exp. I am only fluent in c++

Swype is one of the few applications which aren't allowed on xda.

Sounds ok,
Sorry for thread! you can /delete

Sign up for the beta you might get a surprise. I'm not a fan of swype and I see it as an uneeded resource hog.

I don't think they have made a compatible beta for the Nook Color.
You can cobble it together for use on NookieFroyo from the info in this thread.

There's a similar kb several others have advocated called SlideIT (in the market) but it has a really annoying autocorrect that changes what you're writing to something from it's limited dictionary.
Several others have loved it so it might be worth a try for you.

I signed up for the beta, but I keep getting the message that downloadable apks aren't supported.

You need to uncheck and recheck allow downloaded apks in nook color tools. It's checked by default but like the allow compatibility mode button you have to repeatedly click it for it to actually work.

Press the button repeatedly to make it happy? So like most women I know? Will definitely try that when I get home. Thumb typing is cool, but Swype is cooler.

[Guide] New Swype Beta - Much Improved

First, register if you haven't. A LINK TO THE SWYPE BETA. It is open now. Why wouldn't you register??
Second, completely remove your current version. Uninstall it. Open Root Explorer, go to main root folder, press the search button on your phone, type "swype"and delete all files, reboot your phone.
Here is what my Root Explorer looks like... again, I am sure there are better ways. This worked for me though.
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

}
Then, Download the swype beta installer. I go to the site from my phone. Open it, follow prompts, select swype as input method. I only download the English/Spanish version. No need for a bigger file, right?
I suggest turning auto correct off in the settings.
Here is a really good guide for backing up / restoring your Swype Dictionary (root users).
Also, tell @swype their new "feature" of moving to the end if a tapped word is annoying. It used to show the cursor where you tapped. I've notified them already. They said it would be addressed and higher ups notified.
All in all, it is SO MUCH BETTER! No more annoying pop-up window! Really feels a lot better.
Here is a picture. Notice how the words are displayed now, not a pop-up:
Swype v3.0 BETA released!
Here are the details:
Swype v3 introduces two major new features: Tap Correction and Horizontal Word Choice List
Our Tap Correction engine utilizes many of the concepts that make swyping so accurate. Seamlessly go from typing to swyping and back without missing a beat!
The Horizontal Word Choice List replaces our popup word choice window, giving users an experience more in-line with evolving Android standards. It also makes dictionary control and word selection faster and easier.
Swype v3 is available for devices with HVGA, WVGA, FWVGA, QVGA, WQVGA, WSVGA, qHD screen sizes
Introducing a special Honeycomb-only WXGA version for Android tablets, with features like "moveable keyboard" that you won't find anywhere else!
To see which languages are supported on your device, check the language and resolution table
Improved licensing: Swype will no longer be disabled after a reboot on some devices; added support for devices that don't have a cellular radio (wifi-only tablets); no more license failures for CDMA devices in airplane mode.
Simplified registration by allowing users to authenticate their email address directly through the installer
Too many other improvements to list! Download Swype v3 NOW to explore everything the next generation of Swype has to offer!
Limited End User Support - mostly via our forum
If your phone came pre-installed with Swype
DO NOT download this beta (it won't work)

Okay, I created a blog entry on this.. HERE IS THE ARTICLE, and I've pasted it for the lazy ones.
First, My Rant…
You may have noticed something about me by now. When I am a fan of something, I am very critical of it. I expect the things that I am passionate about to consistently improve – to be the best. Companies are starting to learn this of me too, which I find as a compliment!
.
Well, I’m a Huge fan of Swype! If you can type faster using another keyboard, you’re likely using Swype wrong. I’m hoping this post helps you guys use Swype more effectively. I’ll provide some helpful tips to aid you. But first, lets talk about the new version of Swype and it’s features.
.
Swype addressed some of my biggest gripes with the new Beta update. Sadly, while introducing some new (bigger) issues. First, there is no more annoying pop-up window intruding on your screen. Instead, they’ve brought word suggestions discretely above the keyboard, like your typical android keyboard. Also, you can now peck and have Swype use their auto-correction feature to auto-magically adjust for your bad pecking. Not having to be 100% accurate is nice – much like when swyping, you don’t have to be 100%, it just knows. There are other new features, but this is a great segue to my gripes. Which frankly, are more interesting to me.
.
The auto-correct feature comes defaulted on. It’s new, I get it. But, I don’t peck. If I Swype a word, then go to adjust something it is a world of pain for me. Why you ask? My swyping is very accurate, especially when I have built up my dictionary some (more on that later). So, when I need to make an adjustment to a word, it’s usually minor. Now, when I go to adjust that word it seems to auto-fill a whole new word, or an ending to the word not intended. What makes that worse, they have adjusted the cursor to default to the end of the word on the first tap. It used to be when you edited a word, you could easily place the cursor mid-word, correct, move on. Not now. My cursor jumps around like crazy. If you have a comma at the end of a word, grab a beer, as you are about to be frustrated if you need to delete it. If this bothers you as well, please let @Swype know (they listen, trust me!!)
.
I did find a few solutions to my only gripes. Hallelujah! One, you can turn the auto-correct off. To do so, go to your Swype Settings > Word Suggestion > Uncheck Auto-Correction. The word suggestions still show, which is awesome (no more pop-up window makes me jump like a school girl at a Beiber show). Now, regarding the cursor. Swyping from the “Swype button” to “SYM” lets you easily adjust the cursor location. I have complained to Swype. Supposedly my message was sent to those above the ones managing their Twitter account… so yeah, expect a fix tomorrow guys, you’re welcome. Ha.
.
A Guide…
Alright, you have heard some of the good… some of the bad. Here is my not so perfect attempt as a guide to get you up and running on the new Swype Beta. Please note, they say that if your phone came with Swype pre-installed, to not use the Beta, that it will not work. I am not certain the logic here & will not try and act like I do, but my Vibrant came pre-loaded, and has never been happier.
.
1 – Register for the beta, if you have not already. Honestly, while the Beta is open, what do you have to lose?
LINK >> http://beta.swype.com/
2 – Backup your current swype (titanium, move the .apk to your PC, whatever.. just do something so you can’t blame me for user error or something going horribly wrong that is beyond me). I did not backup but I would prefer you do so.
I will also say, if you have root and you have a current Swype Dictionary that you would like to keep, read this post. If this does not apply to you, or you don’t care about your current dictionary (i did not) then proceed. Otherwise, read that link.
3 – Uninstall Swype from your phone.
4 -Open a file manager, I prefer Root Explorer. Go to your main parent folder and search for “swype” – with most file managers, you should just be able to press the search button on your phone as an FYI. Delete all of the results you see for Swype (again, don’t blame me if you delete something you should not have). I did this, and it worked great for me. Also, you made a backup just in case in step 2, right?
Once you have a backup, uninstalled, and deleted all associate swype files, reboot your phone (maybe not needed, but I did it).
5 – I would then go to http://beta.swype.com/ on your phone. Login and download the Beta Installer. If it’s not showing a download link, you can resend the beta invite email. If you get a message that you are not on an Android phone, you likely have your phones user agent set to act like IE6, not Android – ie, CyanogenMod folk.
6 – Great, now install the Beta Installer. Open it. Follow the prompts. Download the Swype version applicable to you. For me, I get the English version, no need for a full version (more languages) in my case. This really is self explanatory, but post questions in the Comments if you have them. I am willing to uninstall/reinstall to see the prompts if need be.
7 – You should be up and running at this point. I suggest going to the swype settings and turning off auto-correct as previously mentioned. Maybe you want to experiment with the default settings and be the judge for yourself. I don’t blame you, be a cowboy.
Here is how Swype appears with the new Beta installed (sexy notification bar eh? Thanks Roman!):
.
Tips For Using Swype More Effectively…
Alright, now that you have the latest-greatest… lets talk about how to effectively use Swype. Below are some of my favorite Swype tips. It is not an entire list. Swype has a lot on their site not listed here. These are all you really need to be a Swype-Pro in my opinion.
.
You know you can long-press on the letters to access the smaller items (ie, long press “R” for a “1″)… but did you know you can Swype from “SYM” to “5″ and get the entire numeric keypad? It takes less time to do, and if you have multiple #s you will be much faster. Press “ABC” when you are ready for your letters.
.
Just like long-pressing numbers, I often see people long press when trying to do an Exclamation or Question mark…. No need! Just Swype from the punctuation to space. This will add a question mark and auto-fill a space for your next sentence. Quicker and more efficient than a long press followed by a space button!
.
I referenced it earlier, but going from the “Swype button” to “SYM” brings up the editing keyboard where you can adjust your cursor location easily. This keyboard is the most under-valued. I use it a lot for my cursor, but also to select text. Really explore this one. Again, press “ABC” when done.
.
Did Swype get a word wrong, AND it’s not in the new word suggestion box? Double tap the word that was done incorrectly. It will be highlighted now. Key (peck!) the word correctly. Strong chance Swype will recall this word next time you attempt it. I’ve noticed when editing words several words back from where I left off, Swype remembers where I was, so no need to place the cursor back where you left off. It knows.
.
Want to add words to your dictionary, to make it easier next time? You can also simply type the word/combo of words/#s (ie your email address), go to the editing keyboard (“Swype” to “SYM”), press Select All, then Press the Swype button again… you will have a prompt asking if you want to add that crazy long string/odd word/whatever to your dictionary…. of course you do!
.
Need to capitalize something? If using a name for example mid sentence, simple start at the first letter and go ABOVE the keyboard, then back down to the second letter and continue swyping like normal (ie, Callip… start a “C” go above the KB, then go to “a” and continue). Need to make it CALLIP instead? Easy enough.. when you go above the KB, make a little loop then go back down to “a.” That loop above the keyboard tells Swype you want everying in CAPS.
.
The loops and my name remind me… how do you make the two “L’s” in Callip? You simply do a little loop over the “L” before moving to “I.” My name will not be in your dictionary, so maybe practice with a more common word, or, add it to your dictionary since you know how to now!
.
Apostrophes. Common ones don’t even need to have a hiccup, ie, “I’m”… just go from “I” > “apostrophe” (the period) > “M”… done. if you are adding a “‘s” to a word, just swype the word, then start at the apostrophe and go to “S”, ie, that’s cool Callip would be “that” followed by a swype from the period (apostrophe) to the “s” = that’s.
.
Alright, I think that covers most of the tips I know for Swype. If you tips that I have missed, PLEASE let me know in the comments. I hope you guys benefited from this long ramble. Let me know! To finish this article off, here are some videos from Swype, enjoy!

I don't know if this will work for anyone else, but I had the previous Swype Beta installed. I went into TB Pro and uninstalled Swype (left the Swype installer), Then rebotted, went back into apps and used the Swype installer which loaded the most recent version.

If you remove all of swype from root explorer then try to update using the old installer, it auto updates everything the installer, then asks you to login, then installs new swype.
I followed your method, and it worked.
The TB method has never worked for me so i didn't even waste my time trying this time.
Videos added and formatted a bit.

I initially tried just updating from the installer as well and it didn't work for me either, The reason I did not delete all the files through Root Explorer was that there were several files listed at database and entries in the Dalvik Cache. I didn't want to delete those unless absolutely necessary. So I gave TB a chance, figuring I could always go back and delete everything through root explorer if it didn't work.
It worked great for me to uninstall through TB and then use the Swype Installer, only took about 1 min. to go through the process.

If downloading from your phone browser, make certain the user agent is set to Android, and not acting like a pc browser.
Pretty slick..I'm lovin' it.
Here's what I did..
1. Enable Root Function w/ Super Manager Free
2. Go to Root>System>App
3. Delete Swype.apk
4. Download/Install installer via phone
5. Open Installer
6. I picked full beta but w/e.
Odd thing... went to super manager, deleted swype.apk, several other files but left the swype installer.
Went into the installer, checked version, signed in, downloaded eng/Spanish, clicked install, and it says "application not installed". Tried again same result. Any ideas?
Oh yeah when I installed first time it said its a system app, am I sure I want to replace?
Anyhoo... any ideas? Guess I can get rid of the installer too, but seems kind of pointless ...

SketchBook Pro - Fake Honeycomb?

Hello,
I own a Nook Color and plan to use it along with notebooks in school. I am getting a stylus, but the problem is the app. Is there a way to install SketchBookPro on the Nook Color? I'm running MIUI ROM. Thanks.
EDIT: Is there a way I can fake honeycomb to run this app?
You could use Sketch Book mobile but PRO requires Honeycomb.
Yeah you have to use Sketch Book Express (Free) or Sketch Book Mobile ($.99). Unless you install one of the Honeycomb roms.
Alright thanks. Boy am I sometimes dumb... figures. Thanks again!

I purchased and use the Sketchbook Mobile application and find that I really like it. It scales well to the display of the NC.
I can recommend it as well.
Thanks, but I just installed Honeycomb. Just to use this app.
Just went back to MIUI for the speed. Now i'm wondering if there is a way to fake honeycomb to run this app? Or modify it to run on 2.3.3? Because I doubt it uses anything honeycomb dependent. Thanks!

This modified apk will install fine on CM7, but force close when you try to run it because it calls on the ActionBar API, which is Honeycomb-specific. You can see this by following the logs.

To do this yourself next time follow these steps:
1. Use Madcat's sdk port running on Rack's SD card to install Sketchbook Express from the Market and retrieve com.adsk.sketchbookhdexpress-1.apk from /data/app
2. Get APK Manager 4.9: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695701
3. Update apktool to 1.4.1 (051511 release) for xlarge support: http://code.google.com/p/android-apktool/downloads/list
4. Extract Honeycomb framework-res.apk from any duodexed HC ROM, I used Xoom Tiamat 3.2: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1203635
5. Install HC framework for apktool per instructions here: http://code.google.com/p/android-apktool/wiki/FrameworkFiles
6. Use APK Manager to extract and decompile com.adsk.sketchbookhdexpress-1.apk
7. Modify the AndroidManifest.xml file with a text editor, I used Notepad++ in Windows
8. Use APK Manager to compile and sign apk.

Ditto on the stylus issue...tried quite a few, haven't come across any that work well. Seems like the area the stylus touches isn't specific enough for any fine detail, or even writing properly.

swype from the pantech element?

so swype beta doesnt support the 1024x768 resolution of the hp touchpad. you can hack the installer but then it installs the phone version of swype which is really useless on a tablet. the pantech element, which has the same screen resolution as the touchpad, apparently has swype installed, but i cant find any development on it. not even as much as a root, much less a rom dump. i was hoping to pull it off that device and use it till theres a proper version of swype for the touchpad. does anyone have any info on it?
Perhaps its possible to pull it from the ROM dump but I can't find one.
Another good thing about this device that I just noticed is it has an APQ8060/Adreno 220 just like the Touchpad. It may come in handy as a build.prop device since it has the same hardware and same screen resolution as the Touchpad.
Yeah it needs the snapdragon for lte. It could be a good donor device, if it had any development.
I managed to find a Pantech Element ROM dump and installed Swype along with its lib file. Unfortunately it gives a licensing error message and goes into limited functionality mode where you cant swipe words. It looks great in landscape but doesn't adjust in portrait and gives an error message about screen resolution, even though the Element has the same resolution.
If I'm not mistaken, the newest swype beta supports the tp's resolution just fine. By phone mode, do you mean no TAB key? Cause I can live without a TAB key.
I really like the skin used on the Pantech Element, and also the fact that you can shrink the keyboard down in size which makes swyping faster since you don't have to cover as much area. You can see screenshots of this Swype in action on the Element in this review:
http://www.phonearena.com/reviews/Pantech-Element-Review_id2961/page/2
I'll try getting the beta working and then seeing if I can somehow get the Element version to work after. I'd post the Element files but we are not allowed to post Swype apks so anybody who wants to try will have to hunt them down for themselves.

and I think something is still better than nothing....
what do you say?
compared to the browser....you'd have to argue the need for this, it was designed for the phone (GS3) and all that's been done is ported from there. If they developer made a bespoke tablet version then it'd be nice. but hey, thats my beef with ICS at the moment, many apps are stretched and look wrong

I was working on it.... Never got it right, as it appears I was only able to change the UI fonts. The article fonts themselves appear to be set remotely and just displayed locally. So it didn't even fix the biggest issue with the fonts which is in the articles themselves. It only fixed the UI and header fonts. I was going to post the APK anyway, but I found a force close error when trying to add new feeds, so that made things not so nice. Add to that the fact that for some reason, the APK wasn't installable unless I re-signed it, that makes it difficult to switch between versions without uninstalling/reinstalling, I decided not to post the modified APK.
If a developer type wants, I can send the modified APK directly. I'm not going to post it here because it's A) not stable and B) didn't achieve the intended purpose anyway, and C) I don't want to have to support something that's broken/unfinished.
Anyone that knows how to decompile/recompile an APK can do the same thing I did. All I did was reduce the font sizes in the XML layout and values files. As I said though, that didn't have any effect on the actual article content, which appeared to be defined remotely.

[Xposed][MOD][4.0+] XDictionary - Quick Dictionary Search Button

Introduction:
XDictionary adds a quick dictionary search popup button to text you select. The popup is extremely non-intrusive (similar to iOS), and appears next to the Paste/Replace buttons. It then opens the definition of the selected word.
Now, you don't need to bother with opening your dictionary app, typing in the whole word and hitting search - it's essentially just a one-click procedure.
IMPORTANT: after installing, run the app, and allow it to copy dictionary data to external memory. If the app force closes, delete the folder /xdictionary, and reboot. For a proper install, there should be nine files in /xdictionary/dict - the folder will be around 33 megabytes. If all else fails, you can manually make the folders, and download the files from here.
Limitations:
Currently only works in text input fields where Paste/Replace do show up. Making it global for all text is high priority.
Supports only English. Support for other languages may or may not happen, depends on the response.
Bugs:
May break for certain OEM skins or ROMs with heavily modified UIs.
Occasional force closes when you try to copy dictionary data

Future:
Module has been abandoned, as of now; support for custom UIs and ROMs that modify standard AOSP is unlikely. When and if Xposed is ported to Lollipop, I shall start working on porting the module.
Donate:
If you liked the app, and you're feeling generous, do buy the Google Play version! Developing while going through college can be pretty tiring work, and I like the way this app is going.
Download:
The APK is attached; knock yourselves out!
Changelog:
Code:
1.1.0 - dictionary is now offline.
1.0.0 - added support for Toast (donate) and popup windows.
0.9.0 - initial version.
Great idea man will def try and let you know.

Awesome idea. Support for the dictionary.com app would be the best place to start, IMO (it's the most popular, and their widget is great). Merriam-Webster and Oxford English also have apps. If you figure this out, you could also extend it to search Wikipedia, which would be a fantastic idea too.
I don't know nothin 'bout programming or porting, but something similar to the way those Words with Friends cheat apps have a built-in dictionary search might be something to look in to.
Looks like a great app. Just took the leap and purchased through Google Play because of all the potential features mentioned in the reddit thread.
Upon installation though it does not appear to work?
Perhaps I misunderstood the functionality of this module so could you give me a scenario to try to test? I'm not given the option to define when selecting text in Chrome(address bar), or Hangouts (text input field).
I'm running SlimKat ROM with their gapps.
Not working here either on 4.0.4 stock S3. tested many apps.
Lol. Very nice. And useful. Thank you.

Is it possible for the "define" button to not show up next to paste when pasting something that is more than one word?

I'm sorry to hear that; maybe SlimKat have modified their code.
Give me a day, I'll get back to you ASAP. Meanwhile, could you take a screenshot of the Paste/Replace thing?

Is this the same problem RedBeardT was facing? If so, could you perhaps take a screenshot? It'll help.

@perseus0807
Thx for the speedy reply.
Probably no need for screen shot. I simply don't get any extra button or text when highlighting text anywhere whether in a input box or on a page etc. But I get my usual copy/paste etc. Let me know how else I can help.
Cheers
@RedBeardT:
Give me 'til tonight, maybe tomorrow, I'll do my best to have a solution or a fix up.
@themadproducer: okay, scratch what I said earlier; that was for another ROM. Can I have a screenshot anyway? Some manufacturers skin the buttons, which may lead to the problems.
Good, will wait for installed dicts support, Thanks!

This example, is with the url field of boat browser.
Great work!
Would like to see a german version or support for german dictionaries at some time
Love this, Dutch addition would be great!

This isn't working but i really hope it does asap. I'm on xperia u AOSX 4.4.3 pure aosp.
I'm using this module on rooted Stock LG E970. The define button does appear in text selection menu but it's overlapping with the other button (select all) in that menu.
This is not dev's fault at all. LG has modified the system heavily like other OEMs. I'm attaching the screenshot, but if dev needs any other device/ROM specific information like systemui.apk etc, I'll happily provide that.

Thank you for understanding! Actually, there is something ROM specific I do need - the frameworks/base/core/java/android/widget/Editor.java file. I'm not sure if it'll be present in all ROMs, but I'd love it if you had a look.

Does this imply that an update of the module will be required with each update of the ROM?
