[Q] landscape vs. portrait - Streak 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hell all,
I am running 2.2 on my streak [flashed using QDLtool at streakdroid.com] my question is is there a way for portrait view to be set as the default? When you click settings > display > and check the box for auto rotate screen, it keeps the screen in landscape mode.
Anyone know if its possible to have portrait mode be set as default? Thanks guys.

I tried many screen rotate apps but they just not working for streak since streak was default set in landscape mode.
Not until I use an app call Go Launcher, it can lock it in protrait mode. My streak works like a charm now.

You have to leave auto orientation on to use portrait on the streak. Can't make it portrait only unfortunately.
Dell Streak powered by StreakDroid 1.7.0

ADW Launcher EX

You have to rotate your phone to portrait. Then disable the auto rotate screen.

Strange screen orientation

When using my Archos 70, I find out that the screen orientation is somehow strange.
1st - I like to use it in portrait. However, I cannot make the screen 'lock' to portrait orientation. The 'lock' feature only supports landscape orientation
2nd - Even in portrait mode, when using some apps, the orientation is inverted (such as z4root). Seems Archos makes the default portrait position to be like 'power button at the bottom and the USB at the top). However..... I think most of you will agree that we all like the power button AT THE TOP.
So, is there a way to fix the orientation (default) to portrait, with power button at the top?
Thanks for your help.
1. Yes lock is Landscape, that has to do with the stand.
2. This has to do with the way android works. Normaly view is stopped and started again with the new orientation by the os. But the developer can tell Android that it handöes this switch itself and then the app is responsible for thee switching.
So there is no way atm to change this.
Whenever I use an application (on my A101) that only works in portrait mode, the power button is always at the top.
So far I have tried with Twonky and z4root.
edit: oh, and I believe some of the launchers available will let you lock screen in portrait mode ... try Launcher Pro or ADW

[Q] Dell streak in portrait question

Is there a way to keep my dell streak in portrait all of the time without rotating to landscape?

Portrait for whole system
Hi,
I've been seeing the forum threads for portrait mode on the Dell Streak but all have just options for the launcher reorientation.
I have currently locked the system to landscape only since its extremely bothersome when the system is on auto rotate and it rotates by 180 degrees. However even with this, there are apps like Astrid tasks, etc which have some of their screens in portrait - which is a bit irritating...
With the landscape mode its not possible to try an operate the device with one hand. In the portrait mode it is a bit more easier to reach with the thumb across the screen to the opposite side corners and by sliding the hand down the entire screen can be accessed with a single hand when you have to.
Is there some mode where the full system can be made completely in portrait? Of course its understandable that select apps like Klondike, etc will run only on their default landscape mode but is there nothing that can be done for the rest of the system? Something that can probably just be included as a command in the install.txt file for Streakdroid packages perhaps?
I run Streakdroid 1.9.0 and love the new Stage UI. Not particularly impressed with ADW or LauncherPro.
Thanks in advance.

[Q] I hate landscape

I hate landscape, is there a way to keep the streak 2.2 froyo in portrait all the time, i have adw for the homescreen but when i go to dailer or anyother menu it flips to landscape unless i have auto-rotate screen checked to which the screen goes all over the place at times. is there a theme or hack to HELP???
That's interesting. I hate portrait.

I too hate landscape. I have ADW locked in portrait, but it'd be really nice if I could get the phone to be in portrait mode for all of the apps instead of having to wave my phone around to get it in portrait. And the lockscreen is always landscape no matter what!
I've tried various orientation locking apps from the market, but they all lock it in landscape. Anyone know a solution? I'm using streakdroid 1.6.1 (soon to be 1.8.1).
I think Dell Streak is best at landscape. I have it locked on ADW on Landscape.
Don't know if this works for just the homescreen or not, since if I had my way I'd never go into portrait, but someone posted this a few weeks a few weeks ago on modaco:

Go into settings, find system persistant in orientation

if you load 341 froyo 2.2.2 there is an option to disable rotation completely.

Wouldn't this just force the Streak into landscape-mode or does it stay in portrait-mode when disabled?

[Q] Restricting rotation to one portrait and landscape orientation

I was wondering if there was a way to "lock down" rotation so that the landscape orientation would always be such that that the LCD buttons were always to the right in landscape and to the bottom when the phone was rotated to portrait.
Any ideas or Apps that I've missed?
To lock to landscape just turn off orientation in settings ....to lock to portrait. Use adw launcher and select system persistent

Not the question he asked
The O/P wants to keep landscape/portrait ability but limit it to one direction only. For example the port is always the screen bottom in landscape and always the left side in portrait.
Exactly... I want to be able to lock the streak/ui down to only one portait and one landscape... basically establish to fixed "tops" and then use the accelerometer to swotch between those two. Is that possible in 2.2.
Btw, what's "o/p"?

Which tablet do you have? My Acer a500 has a switch that can lock the screen orientation to the desired position. There are also a few apps in the play store that can lock it in as well.
Are you using custom launcher. I use nova launcher and you can force portrait by going into nova settings>look and feel>screen orientation>force portrait. I think most of the launchers have this feature.
