[Q] Tablet in China - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I bought a Malata Zpad in China, because I live here.... It is a tablet with 3G and GPS. Overall it's working out of the box.
3G is only working if the ROM "understands" Chinese. So I did not changed the ROM.
Two major things are not working:
- No Android Market,
- No GPS.
For the Market I did the modification of the build.prop as described here in the forums and downloaded the com.android.vending_2.2.6.apk (I also tried other versions with the same result).
If I start the app for the Android Market, it starts and shows a white screen for 5-10 s then it crashes.
Other users outside of China describe the same problem, but there is no clear solution for that.
It is known that the Market is blocked by the "Great Firewall" in China.
I found a workaround (put in the IP-Address for android.clients.google.com in the Hosts but prior find out "local" IP address from PC via nslookup).
This workaround is not working for me so far, but I am not sure if the software is OK...
Is the "White screen" the blocking from the "Great Firewall" or is that a Software Problem?
Does anyone have an idea for that?
The GPS don't work. I installed the Google Maps application as well as GPStest. They are trying to get the position but it doesn't work. GPStest tells that the signal is OK but not so strong (yellow). It cannot get the satellite anyway.
The same thing for Goggle Maps. If I use the Goggle maps application and activate local position, it tells me after about 30s that it is unable to get the position for the moment. On the Goggle Navigation app, it tries to find the position for very long time without stop.
The GPS symbol never occur on the tablet.
Navigation is also not working with my SIM card installed, based on network position.
Later I found in the gps.conf file, that there are no parameters in!
I tryed to edit gps.conf by writing in the Chinese Time-Server. For the other parameters I changed to the default values from Google. This values were written as a comment in the gps.conf itself.
The editing of the gps.conf has not solved the problem nore changed the behavior of the programs.
Does anyone have an idea how to make GPS navigation work on a Android here in China?
So does anyone have the parameters for GPS.conf for China?
Thank You very much.

I am sorry to hear that, According to your words, your tablet pc has not the GPS function.
Make GPS navigation work, you could choose an external 3G model.
Hope help you.

GPS not working properly

Hey guys,
Im running stock ROM: 2.73.405.5
Radio : 63.18.55.06EU_6.35.06.18
My device has recovery and root.
And GPS does not seem to work, I have tried with Google maps and Waze.
Waze gets my location for a sec (as it resets the map to my real location), I have disabled the use of wireless networks to find out the location so I guess GPS must be working if it can see where I am for a second but after that it says it's looking for GPS satellites and it never finds any no matter where I am.
As far as I recall I have never been able to get a satellite.
Will a radio upgrade help me?
Has anyone ever experience such problems and found a solution?
Are there any changes to settings I need to apply except enabling location services ?

have you sat still for a good 5-10 mins with a clear view of the sky?> and does ur internet work fine on the phone?
hero can locate you either with the phone's network service or GPS, the first one locate you in no time but can't get an acurate coordinate. On the contary, GPS takes longer time but get a better fix (Take a few minutes).
Go to "setting" - "position"(not sure for my not using english as my default language) check both box to active GPS and network locating function.

Get aGPS to work in Google Maps??

I had the feature in other roms that would give me an approximate location on Google Maps almost instantly when it was opened. Within 2400 meters or so. With the new NFSFAN rom this is not the case. It finds GPS lock, but until then it has no idea where I am. The weather location thing works so aGPS should be working, just not working in Google Maps.
Not sure if it will work in your rom, or even be the problem. I assume you are talking about tower based location.
The rom I was using it worked then suddenly stopped after upgrading. I compared the registries and found that for some reason some keys in the registry werent being created. I added these and it started working again.
HKLM>software>google>googlemaps
supports_extended_ril value=1
(this will enable location based off of cell phone tower)
supports_extended_wifi value=1
(this will enable location based off of your wifi access point)
You will need to restart google maps for it to take effect.
hope it helps.

what is your distribution_channel value set to? I have it at gmm-htc trying to see if that is preventing me from connecting to the gps towers.
i don't have HKLM>software>google>googlemaps
I have: HKLM>software>google>cll>permission list>services.exe
I put those values in cll since there was nothing in the other two and it did not work.
I'm also trying to get GPS to work on NFSFAN's 1.05 ROM (either aGPS or GPS). I don't have the registry keys mentioned above either.
I'm on the latest USCC radio.

Do you have the right COM port and baud rate set up? If your GPS isn't working right, you may have to manually set up the hardware parameters. Try to use QuickGPS/HTC GPSTool/VisualGPS or whatever GPS tool NFS cooked in his rom and see if it can connect and get a few locks.

??? is that a key also for google maps, I dont have one like that. I just have the two mentioned keys (after I added them) along with one other key.
Have you tried adding the above keys and see if it helps?
Keep in mind, I am not currently using the same rom as you, its just a problem I noticed with my rom and the keys fixed it.

I could be wrong, but I believe you only need to setup the com and baud rate when using an external gps or using your phone as a gps for something else (ie computer)
Good luck!

Not necessarily. If the software that you are using doesn't detect the hardware right away, you have to manually set it up. I happened to my Fuze when I had it. I had iGo8 and had to input the settings by hand. Same thing with my Vogue.
waiting for this one
I have been waiting for this to be discussed. I am on NFSFAN's ROM on verizon and google maps is not working. I will try the above reg hacks and report back
Adding those two reg keys did not work for me. Deepsix who is your carrier?
Just on a note. I have the latest NFS and this feature works for me in Google maps, even though I have the phone disabled and the Data connection turned off as well. I use my Touch as a WiFi VoIP device only.
When I start I get an approximate location, and when I click on the little blue dot it gives me my locale within 100 Meters.
I also did not install any of the providor specific cabs that are in the first post on the NFSFAN thread.
It does work with wifi but not over the towers which is what is really useful. Good to know that it does at least work with wifi though.
Try the provisioning.cab file for your carrier?
At the risk of offending and stating the obvious did you guys with the GPS problems install the carrier specific provissioning .cab in order to get GPS working?
If not, try it:
the attached files on the first post of the thread titled " *Updated March 5th* NFSFAN's Custom WM6.5.5 ROMs "
I'm not allowed to post links yet.

That wont help you, its a very small regional carrier. "inland cellular" I have never been able to get google maps to work even on a stock phone from them. Adding those two reg entries was the only way I could get it to work for me.
Sorry it didnt work for you. I know how frustrating it can be.
Just to make sure everyone understands, the GPS would always for with the location, but when gps is off its supposed to get its location based off of the cell tower id/wifi router id's Thats what the reg edits did for me. You can tell what your getting your location from becuase of the accuracy. GPS said it was within a couple yard where as tower based it was within a couple miles.
Ok I took my touch pro and flashed the most recent nfsfan rom and tried google maps location. With GPS on, I could get a location, with gps off and wifi on, I could get a location, with gps off and wifi off, using only cellular data I COULDNT get a location.
I closed google maps.
went to regedit and scrolled to
hklm--software--google
for some reason there is not a key titled googlemaps, I am not sure if thats because its baked in the rom or what.
So...
I created a new string under google titled -- googlemaps
under google maps I created a new string value titled supports_extended_ril with a value of 1
I restarted google maps location and with only the cellular data enabled, it gave me a location instantly.
On a side note, there is another key under google titled cll, dont quote me, but I believe thats created for when you enable 'my location' in the sense theme so that your location shows up on the weather tab. I am not sure if you need to enable that also, I did enable it first so if you are still having troubles, try enable that also.
Hope that helps. It seems to work on any rom I have tried it on. Like I said in previous posts, even the stock rom wouldnt give me that location. I dont think it is carrier specific, as if I understand it correctly, google is sent what tower you are using via tower id code, then google compares that to their list of tower locations. Google then send back your approximate location. They also do that with wifi routers.
Let me know if it works for you.

Thanks for the very detailed scientific post. I have not been able to get GPS working on USCC, there is no carrier cab for it.
I didn't realize after setting the registry entry's that you had to turn off the GPS option in google maps. After turning that off it found my "approximate" location very quickly within half a mile or so of where I was (after also editing the registry).
Thanks everybody! It works well enough for me not to care
That worked for me as well. Thanks! I must have been doing it wrong before because that is a more detailed explanation of what was suggested earlier if I am not mistaken. I cannot believe google would screw something so simple up.

Samsung DIVE locating problem

Hello, i got a problem when i try to locate my phone using samsung DIVE.
I tryed it multiple times today and yesterday, but i just cant get an accurate location of my phone
Everytime when i try to locate my phone, i get an error message saying there were interruptions in my gps signal.
roughly translated to english:
Because of interruptions in the GPS reception it is possible that an error occurs for the current location of your mobile device.
Click to collapse
And then i get a location which is 50 meters further than my location.
I dont know why he cant find my location, while programs like navigon, google and gps test get a very accurate location.
I also tryed using the anti theft app from avast, and that app also gets my location very accurate.
Anyone else has this problem? I have gps on all the time, and hspa+ internet connection.
ps: it did work this morning when there were less clouds, so i guess it only works when there are not many clouds, but why do all the other apps work?
i too have the same problem
Try this, go to Settings --> Locations Services, and then check (tick) the following, Googles location service, GPS Satelites, Use Sensor Aiding and Location and Google Search.
Now try Samsung Dive and see if it doesn't pin point you!
yep there all on same thing

[Q] Date & Time Settings problem

Looking for some help, for whatever reason and as far back as i can remember the " Automatic Use network provided values" under my date & time settings has been checked, and I am unable to uncheck it. Its is the only setting on my phone that is locked like this. In order to correct my time and time zone I've had to use clocksync and timezone fixer from the market. Does anyone have an idea cause I'm fresh out. Maybe a manual way to edit it via some system file I'm not aware of or something? Fix permissions does nothing. And like i said it is the only setting that is perpetually checked, all others are adjustable. (someone told me it may be a gps problem, but my gps seems to be working, my compass gets a fix, google maps, copilot, and gps status are all good to go) A little help here please...Thanx in advance.
Oh, I'm running GB 2.3.5

Is GPS taking a long time to locate with AccuWeather only or in other apps as well. For example, is it working well in Google Maps?
You could also try to use a GPS Test app (AndroiTS GPS Test Free from Play Store) to check if your phone is "seeing" any satellites or not.

it does also in google maps and the others. i tried that app and it is seeing satellites. where could be the problem, do you have idea?
and does anybody know anything how to fix the radio, please?
thank you
How many sattelites are visible as per the GPS test app?
Could you please try the following:
1. In Settings > Location Access, disable and re-enable "Wi-Fi & mobile network location"
And check if GPS works (ideally using the GPS test tools).
2. If the previous solution didn't work, then
In Settings > Location Access, disable "Wi-Fi & mobile network location"
And check if GPS works (ideally using the GPS test tools). (The second problem I had faced with CyanogenMod based custom ROMs in 4.2.2)
Note: The first time you connect to GPS it could take a long time (long as in 20 seconds to a couple of minutes). And if possible, try to test it from a place with clear visibility of the sky (at least the first time).
