[Q] From latest network/operator version to Global Shipped ROMS noob help - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
I've been reading through all the posts I can find and I'm starting to understand the different parts of the update process, however I would like to confirm my understanding and can't find a post which clarifies this for me, can anyone help?
My X10i is running the following on 3 UK:
Firmware Version 2.1-updat1
Baseband version 2.0.49
Kernel version 2.6.29
Build number 2.0.2.A.0.24
These are the steps as I understand them:
1.) Root the phone using SuperOneClickv1.5.5 (for 2.0.2.A.0.24).zip found on this forum post here: LINK (thanks hush66)
2.) Update the baseband to 2.1.54 following instructions found here: LINK (thanks steve.adams.x10)
3.) Install xRecovery 0.3 as per the post here: LINK (thanks zdzihu)
4.) Then flash using the instructions in the noob guide here: LINK (thanks rendeiro2005)
Then done?
My other question would be, does running this type of procedure reset the phone in terms of apps and save data? If so can I back these up first? Is it possible to backup the factory installed versions mentioned previously?
And I run Windows 7 64bit, which has the SEUS tools installed, should I use my XP based netbook for the flashing process in order to prevent conflicts and problems?
I've only recently moved from iPhone to Android and although I'm loving it I'm finding it hard to piece together the info
Thanks for your time and appreciate any replies even uncomplete
Cheers
Dan
P.S I've flashed a few baked ROM's on PDA's in the past so not a total idiot (I hope)

Do like it says, didn't have to make a thread.

baseband : 1.0.14
kernel: 2.6.29-rel semc-android (AT) semc #2

K here what i need, information on to how to get this system into the new 2.1 system, i seen steps there already for build r2 but nothing on my build so any assistence, also, what should i backup? numbers? apps? (dnt really care abt apps) its mainly my pics, movies and numbers but there on sd card accept my numbers.

Oh yea not to bump or anything, as far as i can see my phone where i found all this details out doesnt seam to have any branding of any sort. so i guess even global generic verison would do, but please guys tell me what would be best based on the information given above.

Debrand. Go Nordic. Done.
Oh, and also Search!
Go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=683793
Download X10i_2_0_A_0_504_GLOBAL.
Run the flash tool.
In 3m:40s, your phone will be on v2.1*
*Backup all your data using Titanium Backup and/or SMS Backup & Restore first. Install SEUS, PC Companion and connect your phone in flash mode before using the flasher so that all the drivers install.

so will this work on build: R1FA014 as is, or do i need to upgrade something, my phone is non-rooted

It will update both your firmware, 1.6 - 2.1 and build R1FA014 to X10I Global.
Will work on yours.

How to downgrade to official 2.2 from 1.5.3 ?

Despite all the excellent work by Steve & the other boffins here in this forum, I continued to experience instability (a few random resets & freezes daily) on 1.5.x
I guess stability is more important than flexibility for me atm, so I'm thinking to install the official Dell 2.2 as I hope it will put an end to my woes.
Grateful if somebody could please advise me the procedure to go about the downgrade and where to find the official 2.2 package I will need. Do I have to downgrade my BB too? If so to what version?
(I originally went from stock O2 1.6 to 2.1 then to 1.5.1)
Thanks for your input.
Current status: O2 unlocked Streak running DJ_Steves V 1.5.3, baseband GAUSB1A131800-EU
Flash stock recovery then upadte stock 318
Sent from the Iphone Killer
Just to ensure I understand correctly, borijess, you saying I should flash this first: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=840326
.....which will then enable me to go straight from where I am now to 318 ?
Edit: Nevermind, after some intense googling I found a step-by-step guide of exactly what I'm after right here: http://forum.pocketables.net/showthread.php?t=8285.
Thanks again borijess for having pointed me in the right direction - I wouldn't have known what to search for.

[Q] Flashing Android 4.1 on a rooted device running 4.0.4

Hey All.
I rooted my phone previously using method one from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746794 and installed clockwork mod using this: http://galaxys2root.com/galaxy-s2-r...ckworkmod-recovery-on-rooted-galaxy-s2-i9100/
My phone's carrier is Optus and I am currently running Android 4.0.4 with baseband version I9I00XXLQ6 and build number IMM76D.XWLPW
I'm wanting to update my firmware to Android 4.1 .. can anyone point me in the right direction of some instructions which will enable me to do this with my current phone versions?
Thanks
I have recently flashed Jellybam onto my S2... (4.1.2)
Other than I cant find google talk on the latest version, its works perfectly.
The instructions are pretty clear once you have your phone rooted with Clockworkmod. It only takes a small number of steps and a couple of minutes.
This is the thread for the ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1903162
and it points you to this site
http://www.igio90.net/device/samsung-galaxy-s2-i9100/
I'm no expert (not by a long way!) but shout if you have any questions and if I can help you out, I will!
cheers,
Paul.

[Q] After downgrade to an older firmware, how to upgrade?

Hi all!
I'm just new to xda and android and liked to do a nandroid backup.
So I read about it and find out, that there isn't any way to do so, without install/flashing/? a Custom Recovery, such like ClockworkMod Recovery, is it?.
So I get ROM Manager from GPlay Store, but it didn't find my phone. Then I downloaded RecoverX from here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1773227) and run it. But this needs root. I think, there isn't any way to use ClockworkMod Recovery without having root, is it?
I try to get root, reading here in that great forum, but it seems, there isn't any way to root my SE Xperia Pro, because it has a Build-Number 4.0.2.A.0.69, and you can only root *.42. There it says, you can flash that firmware, using flashtool (http://flashtool.net). I found a *.42 firmware here: http://dexxmor.de.to/.
So here my main question: After I flashed that firmware and root my phone, how to upgrade to the x.69 one? They all say, that this will be done by "OTA". But my Phone has GB and could have ICS (I didn't upgrade). So when I do so, after that, I would have ICS, right?
Sorry for that n00b question and my bad english
Thanks
PS: Sorry, if i posted in a wrong forum. I didn't found a Pro/Sony General one.

My Device:
Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro (MK16i)
Android: 2.3.4
Baseband: 8x55A-AAABQOAZM-203028D-66
Build: 4.0.2.A.0.69
Kernel: 2.6.32.9-perf

What you are looking for by asking for an update is just making your phone ram hungrier. It would make no use upgrading. Also, after upgrading, by default the root and its advantages will be lost. So it is better to simply keep downgraded, rooted and to mod your phone rather than upgrade it.
Happy to help
Thank you for your fast reply.
You make me unsure, because I always read to upgrade after rooting, but this doesn't make sence of course, if root will be lost.
A last question: What happens, if I won't mod my phone? What happens if I stay with that older firmware?
Kind regards

Rooting and updating an Android version

Does any one know of a step by step guide of how to install the latest version of Android on an HTC Desire S?
There is plenty of information on Google but i cant find a detailed guide that includes how to root the phone first. The HTC Desire S i have is currently running Android 2.3.5.
A couple of questions:
- Does the Android version depend on the spec of the phone? (i.e. does the phone have to have a specific amount of memory or specs for me to be able to install the latest version on the Desire S)
- Does the phone have to be rooted first before i can install
- If i do root and install the latest version, will i be able to revert it back to its original factory settings?
- What does "installing a custom ROM" mean? Is this the same as installing a different distribution of Linux or a modified version of XP?
- What is the relationship between installing a custom ROM and updating the Android version? Is it the same thing?
- And finally, are these custom ROMS safe? Do i have to install a custom ROM to be update the Android version and if so, how do you ensure that when you update to the latest Android version, you are not installing a version that has modifications to record personal information e.g. your email or paypal logons?
Thanks.
up.. this is also my question..
