From searching other forums and google I found the following:
You can enter update mode by removing the battery, then while holding down the VOL + button plug in your usb cord(i assume while it's connected to your computer).
Then you can search the forums here and find:
[LG P970] Upgrade Kit 3.5
(the title is longer than this i just didn't put it all in here due to laziness)
This should help you in your quest of retrieving your phone from light up paperweight status. I don't really know though. Since I've never used your phone. Good luck.
recovery mode
you need to press the home button, volume -, and power,
to enter to the recovery mode.
sorry for my bad english.

The Home key is actually the touch key on the Optimus Black..it's not a button but a touch input
The combination is the same as above :good:

Doesn't work when you power up your device with those keys.
Power on your device before you press the key combination.
Took me a frustrating half an hour to find out...

power up your phone, when the buttons start to blink (or the cm logo appears or whatever boot logo you have) press and hold vol down then press power button (home key is not really needed like the video ) . it also works on stock rom if you have a recovery installed.
note that it won't work at the early bootup when the lg logo appears or when android is booted and ready.

Thanks a lot ! You almost saved my life ! USB PC connexion don't work, I couldn't do anything else than achieving booting recovery without adb.

It takes me in safe mode, i'm not even sure what it is (I guess is something similar to window's? It has less apps when I am in safe mode!
I'm not sure what to do, I tried to reboot in recovery mode with the ROM manager but it doesn't work (nothing of the ROM manager works actually).
Any ideas on what safe mode is?
Thanks!
UPDATE:
I tried this app to reboot in recovery mode
play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.siriusapplications.quickboot&hl=en
It rebooted the phone, the android robot showed up with some stuff turning in the stomach (like this: upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/76/Android_Update_Screen.JPG) and then it turned on normally except that all my data now is gone (which is not a problem since I wanted to wipe it from the recovery mode, the problem is that I still can't get into recovery mode!
P.S.: it wouldn't let me post normal links because I'm a new member, I hope I didn't break any rule posting them like this! (after all it's not spam!)

Cannot boot into fastboot and get a boot animation loop. Anything to do?

Hello guys.
I installed CyanogenMod 7 but I forgot to wipe cache and dalvik cache (I guess that's what caused the problem). Now I get a loop in the cyanogen boot animation. I cannot go into fastboot (by pressing power on + vol down) nor RSD mode. Is there anything I could try to save my phone? (Atrix 4g; I installed this ROM atrix-dev-team - Development of CyanogenMod & other fun stuff for the Motorola Atrix - Google Project Hosting )
Thank you so much.
Wrong forum. Should be in Q&A!

He already said he can't get into fastboot like that.
OP you sure you can't get into fastboot or recovery? Are you trying to do it when bootlooping? Try pulling battery, then replacing it. Hold volume down, press power button and then let it go keeping volume down pressed. Or try the same but press volume up to go right to fastboot.
Sent from my MB860 using xda premium
Hello guys. Yes, I have tried that, many times. I have pulled the battery several times, recharge it completely, things like that.
But, it still gets stuck in the "Unlocked Fastboot" screen or bootlooping in the cyanogen splash screen.
Any other ideas? Thank you so much.
Nevermind!
So you get the Fastboot unlocked message. And? Thats pretty much all you see on fastboot. Does the PC not talk to it at that point? Does it show "Starting Fastboot protocol support" after tapping volume up?
Are you instead trying to boot into recovery? Hold volume down and press power on to start. When the fastboot message appeares, release volume down, then tap volume down until you see Android recovery, then press volume up.
Thank you Genomerio. I was able to do an Android Recovery... I didn't know there were more options than Fastboot and RSD. I restore my previous backup and all is working now.
Thank you so much...

[Q] Unable to enter DELL menu by pressing Power and Volume buttons

Hello again,
I am trying to install DSC. Following given step
Tutorial on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18656924&postcount=2
1. Charge Streak to 100%
2. Copy DSC_v1.0 to root SD card
3. Get streak into Fastboot, (don't plug usb connector to pc, power on with Camera button pressed. Wait 20 sec, then plug usb connector)
4. Run flash.bat from 'DSC_flashme2' folder via command prompt, and follow all instructions
5. When rebooting, immediately press both Volume buttons to enter the Dell menu
6. With the Volume button navigate to the second option, 'upgrade...', and select by pressing the Camera button
...
...
I am trying to enter DELL menu given in 5th step (by pressing Power button and both Volume buttons at a time), but it isn't working. I have seen it working when I keep DS5 with bettery removed and then turn it back ON using Power and Volume. But now it is not coming up that way.
(All previous steps have worked, so can say Power and Camera buttons are working)
Please let me know if we have any alternate method to bring it on DELL menu that goes to StreakMod selection.
Any way to change the button combination of POWER+VOL_UP+VOL_DOWN to something else?
Thanks!

No way to change it, and that is the correct way to do it. Perhaps you aren't doing it right.

I have done it in past. Even I was able to get into FASTBOOT 2 days back. But cant anymore. Phone is perfectly well, no physical damage at all. Even the button seems to be proper, not damaged or over-pressed.

Thanks but I have tried all combinations. Thats why I asked for some alternate or any way to change key combinations.
I am even trying QDL.

Help please!!!

Used FreeGee and all worked fine. Loaded up CM10. Used Mybackup Pro to restore apps. It was hanging on boot up. So I held the power button down. Now I don't know how to manually get into recovery mode? I press the power button I see the LG logo and sits at black screen.

Use power and volume up to get to boot loader screen. From there it is a hidden menu, press volume up twice then power.

[Q] Lineage OS / screen unlock not working / can't get to TWRP

Old LG G5 I had previously installed Lineage on. Was in a drawer until I decided to charge it up and let one of my kids play games on it. When I input the correct screen lock pattern, it goes black, then comes back to lock screen.
I am able to hold power button to then select power off, restart, etc. From power off, I power on and get the orange triangle recommending to lock the bootloader. But no combination of power and vol-down or power and vol-up will get me to TWRP. It just rolls right back in to Lineage.
Also, from power off, if I plug in to my Linux laptop, it will power on and go to fastboot.
Feels like USB debug got turned off and/or trust somehow got revoked, but I never had this laptop connected to it so probably doesn't matter. But like I said, my unlock pattern is working. I get different response with correct pattern versus incorrect.
I'm also able to see the phone from my https://google.com/android/devicemanager page. I tried to send a secure and erase thinking it might let me start from scratch, but I only see a notification that "Device Located" and it never does anything.
And finally, lsusb -v does see the phone, but adb devices never does.
My question is any idea how to get back to TWRP to wipe and push an updated image or even put an updated TWRP?
Try this ...
It's like getting into Stock Recovery. To get into TWRP Recovery using button combination (hard reset) you'll need to hold volume down button and power button simultaneously, releasing power button (temporarily) once LG logo appears then quickly pressing and holding power button again, all the while maintaining hold on volume down button. The stock recovery message (white background) will appear requiring you to select volume up/down button to continue to reset software (see attached image). If you select yes it will appear to factory reset but will actually boot into TWRP.
Hope that helps!
