Hi all,
Will there ever be an android 2.3 rom with sense for this device?
Thanks!

Probably not. How many devices 'officially' have 2.3...? The Nexus S? That doesn't have sense, and the hardware on that phone is slightly different from our phone's hardware...
Considering we don't have 2.2 with sense, what makes you think we'll get 2.3 with sense? lol.

I know it was a stupid question xD, sorry !
Then I will look forward to a stable Gingerbread with some more 3D performance, and maybe a bit faster(A).
Love to this project!
Thanks ,

For sure it will become faster and more stable
Let the devs work and as they did for froyo, there will be a final and nice gingerbread build

Indeed, the gb builds are all pretty alpha. XDAndroid always strives for stability, hence the reason some things are just removed for the moment. Once the kinks are worked out, the missing pieces will be added back in and there will be a final build - but there will probably be a beta and several RC's before it can be considered final. Thanks!

sense GB, yea right....

[Q] Whats the possibility of CM7?

Whats the chance of getting CM7 on the SGS2?
Is the SGS a fully supported CM7 phone?
I'm a HTC man myself (DHD atm), but the SGS2 is looking mildly tempting due to the AMOLED screen, loud speaker and great .mkv playback capabilities as I watch quite a bit of video.
I am leaning more towards the Sensation due to the 16:9 qHD screen and the fact I've never been let down by a HTC device yet.
But I've really got used to CM7. Whilst I'm sure the Sensation will get CM7 on it... at some point, I reckon the SGS2 will get it first.
It's a big hmmmmmmmm from me atm
Very doubtfull you will see any custom roms on HTC now mate because there locking bootloaders
The device hasn't even been rooted yet but I'd say it's only a matter of time. If it's a deciding factor for you then hang fire but I'm actually quite liking touchwiz 4 and that's something I never thought I'd say.

Samsung is very good about releasing source, just check http://opensource.samsung.com they will post the source within a few weeks I'm sure.
sorry to ask this noob question, but why do you need cm7 on this phone? is it laggy? lacking features ?

Because this forum is for developers and development of ROMs, otherwise why would you be on this forum
some people want root regardless as they like to tinker.
also enables useful features like
titanium backup / Clock recovery so you can easily backup/clone your phone state
overclock (speed) / undervolt (battery)
CIFs for mounting windows shares or presenting itself as a windows share (very useful esp over wifi, look ma no cables)
get rid of touchwiz and other preinstalled stuff (I haven't used touchwiz 4 but I like stock android and I'm a speed freak)
I never rooted/custom ROMed my nexus one (as I love stock android) but it was the first thing I did to my galaxy tab and will be the first on my list with any non stock android phone

There's a chance it might get cm7 but it'll require a lot of work, the current sgs has cm7 but its still in alpha stage since samsung doesn't release the source for its proprietary drivers, everything has to be made from scratch(ie. time consuming). I don't think anyone whose working on cm7 for the sgs wants to do this again.

all upcoming HTC devices will have locked bootloader, plus i strongly doubt we're going to see CM7 on SGS2 since Samsung doesnt release (or at least not so far) the source code of the drivers.
wait, does this mean no custom ROMs for SGS2 or rather they will just be less drastic modifications?
for example I don't think the galaxy tab custom ROMs use written from scratch drivers.
sorry new to custom roms.
There will be plenty of custom ROMS. Just not AOSP rom anytime soon.
Basically with AOSP you will loose a lot which includes all the multimedia capabilities ( ability to play many containers and codecs natively with hardware acceleration ), hardware GPU acceleration in browser, probably MHL link and HD recording.
There are very few people who will be ready to give up all this to get AOSP rom for this phone.
well it's rooted already isn't it?

but re CM7 .. again ..why? i use custom sense roms for my desire but CM7 and it's god awful cam ... yeh ..no thanks.

Man,never been a big fan of CM Roms, have moved to MIUI Froyo Rom{now with Formels MIUI Android 2.3 Rom},,tried CM many times but battery drain & other force close issues were in plenty.MIUI works best with my Nexus 1,,extremely fast, smooth, less battery drain ROM.
As far as Sensation goes,i hope it will be rooted, also it will be by June end when both SGS 2 & Senation will be launched in my region,so will have clear idea as to which one is getting more devs support{as xda support is what is most important for me rather than the phone itself}.
Have such a great time with N1.

Not only Cyanogen, there are various different devs with their custom roms, but CM is used in most of the droids.
Samsung Galaxy S has a pathetic lag issue/faulty gps issue.
Even after so many lagfixes & workaround{in various roms},it still is very fragile.
Therefore you will definitely see people asking about SGS 2 lag issue or any GPS issue{hopefully GPS is great here in SGS 2 by default compare to quite pathetic in SGS}

As I said, I'm a HTC fan, but one thing I am not is a Sense fan! I can only presume that will extend to TW, although I have never tried it. I also like to run my phone at 190dpi instead of the standard 240dpi that most phones run at. And with Sense at least, when you change to anything other than 240dpi, it does not like it one bit!

It's not rooted... it's bootloader unlocked. Not the same. Bootloader unlocked can lead you to root, root can't lead you to bootloader unlocking.

POLL - CM7 or Vegan Ginger

Question is which Gingerbread based rom do you think is running a smoother UI and offering the most stable user experience given the video driver issues?
CM7 updates much more frequently, so they have shown more progress on hardware video acceleration, but that doesn't mean Gojimi isn't also working on it, it just wasn't part of the RC1 that is out there. With respect to a smoother UI, Gojimi has released VTLauncher separately so I personally am running the latest CM7 with VTLauncher, for the best of both worlds. I really appreciate having the dock on the bottom, not the right, other than that I turn off the sidebars anyway...
With the CM team making so much rapid progress I'm not even really sure what would motivate Gojimi to work on an almost identical ROM, although he does have more GTab specific experience whereas CM is generic, and then Mad-Murdoch drives the tablet specific features. I actually appreciate Gojimi's other projects more.

Excellent Feedback. Agree Gojimi is awesome and VTLauncher is pretty sweet.
I prefer donut myself
This is a toughy. I'm a long time CM fan from way back with my MyTouch. But I've been using Vegan since I got my Gtab. I just switched to CM7 and so far I'm loving it. I appreciate the frequent updates simply because it satisfies my hunger for flashing (that sounds bad). I'm also liking that CM7 has migrated the nightlies to the 2.3.4 strain of Android. Video playback - ech. That topic has been done to death and now all we can do is wait and see. Right now, my money is with CM7 until I see what future Vegan releases bring.
Tablet VS Phone
I prefer VegaN due to its more tablet friendly approach. CM7 felt like a phone, and the even murdoch's tablet tweaks felt like an afterthought. For me not having video hardware acceleration is not a big enough trade off to switch back to CM7 nightlies. VTL in Vegan GE itself is a huge +1.
Didn't vote, but running VeganGinger, and watching CM7
VGinger is based on CM7, so I think of it as a teaser for the next rev of Vegan.
No matter what, VTL Launcher got an instant donation out of me. Awesome.

I think that the tablet tweaks on CM7 look nicer than Vegan, and VTL works nicely too. I'm not sure about your hardware acceleration comment. Neither release has full support yet.
I liked VT Launcher so much I bought it for my droid. Its pimpin
Im also telling Gojimi everyday it's time for an update. He is buried in projects right now.
+1 for the VTLauncher
I started with vegan ROMs and if it wasnt for my other phones running CM and addiction to the nightly build bot I'd still be running vegan ROMs.
I also echo whats been said about VTLauncher. It rocks for tablets. That plus tablet tweaks and the honeybread theme for CM7, Im a happy camper.

Seriously.....Gojimi has not forgotten the community. I chat with him several times a day and he is busy working on his launcher and trying to tweak his next release. I think hes waiting for the hardware accelleration issue to finally be completely fixed and I saw a post earlier that DSP may be fixed. (I think Oozura said it actually ) He has tweaked enough stuff from cm source that he just cant produce as fast as cm can. Lots of changes from source he has to manually fix.
He is also busy working on bugs in his launcher in Honeycomb. Minor but major headaches. He's not a big poster because his head is buried in code all the time.

I believe it has the chance of getting ICS but definetly not from Samsung. SGA has a very large amount of users and skillful developers who could make it happen.
We may have to be patient though.. Even Nexus S, which has the official support from Google, hasn't even recieved the upgrade yet. CMIIW.

Yeah.. Lame old marketing tactics lol.
By the way, I've seen some leaked videos of Prime and S running ICS and from there I could understand that even S wont have the exact same version of ICS the Prime will have... Well at least for the GUI.

couldnt agree more
If I had to choose I'd rather have a completely stable and optimized Gingerbread instead of an ICS. Stable meaning every feature working the way it should, like my wifi actually reconnecting after sleep.
The main advantages on ICS are:
1) dual core support and hardware accelerating
2) New UI.
Because neither of those are relevant to Galaxy Ace, I'm fine with Gingerbread.
But XDA developers are really fast and they will port ICS even if Samsung wouldn't.
but i have heard taht the update will be for 1 yr old devices i think galaxy ace is 1 yr old only...so we can get

And really, I wouldnt expect much from Samsung in the term of firmware updates.
Maybe we could just put our hope on a new ICS-based CM instead

Yup there's a new agreement for companies to provide software updates till the 1 year or so is up. We're probably getting it but of course they will prioritize.
New version of OS is one of marketing tricks to lure people into buying new phones, I'm quite sure that we won't see ICS stock from Samsung, but nevermind, we have great developers, so just wait for CM 8 an' see

It'd really be pointless though. ICS is a much more optimised version of HC which should bring full SMP support through software, something that has gone begging for quite a while to take advantage of phones like the S2. Maybe they are adding GPU rendering as well. Another useless perk for the Ace as the GPU is ****.
Also, why bother porting ICS to ARMv6? It's a complete waste of resources when it's almost likely to provide little to no benefit.
My opinion at least. Don't get your hopes up for ICS/ICS-based CM8.
I know (SGA even don't have flash) but at least they'll take some interface tweaks and eyecandies

And what about some battery improvements in ICS? Maybe the phone won 't go faster but battery life could be higher. Or am i wrong?

What are you talking about?
Samsung has released no source code other than I9100 kernel sources, which are basically useless on Hummingbird-based devices.
Nexus S source code is more applicable and has been out for ages - but getting that to support the G70 is a lot of work, more work than it's worth to be honest. I haven't been particularly impressed with ICS so far. It's not awful - but it's not the major improvement over Gingerbread that GB was over Froyo.

Well, technical know-hows aside, I would like to comment on the ICS Vs GB thing. I loved using GB but since moving over to ICS on my Cappy and HP Touchpads, there is no comparison on the polish the ICS brings to these devices. Granted ICS did not bring anything earth shattering to the Android OS game, but the latest Google has to offer seems just right for my devices. GB just felt still being worked on but... ICS has more thoughtful features... simple things as the way gallery presents the photos, just seem right. Of course, some, if not most, would be differences in personal taste, but for me, I am happy with ICS and can't wait for all my devices to be upgraded to them.
Now, having said that... I certainly appreciate all the hard work by all the devs. I have no doubt, for a moment, that it's an aweful amount of work... For that... I Thank you.
@Entropy - That is kind of my gut feeling without having spent much time with ICS.
Is it fair to say the ICS is much more about glitter than new functional features or power?

Yeah I think ICS was meant to be more user friendly. Less technically overbearing to the standard end user.

Awh dammit nevermind, i misread, it wasnt the full source it was just the ics kernel source

ICS vs GB on the Minis

With the new ICS roms/kernels appearing and the huge enthusiasm for them, I'm actually left wondering why?
Given what we know from SE posting on the topic in their dev blog, surely ICS will never run as fast or as effectively as GB on our small phones?
So specifically, what does ICS bring to the table for our phone which GB does not?
Sure, it gets a new styles GUI but that's about it. The under-the-hood fundamental differences surely decrease it's suitability to our hardware.
Now I am not knocking anyone making roms/kernels here and I'm all for doing stuff just for fun, or to see if I can. However I can't help think that a bug free GB will always be superior for our phones than ICS?
Not necessarily, the aokp and miui beta 3 roms by stelios97, which are based on ics, but run on the nAa-11 kernel show a fair amount of promise in speed and stability. I'm very much looking forward to improvements in the miui-rom especially.
As far as the ICS kernel and MiniCM9 by nAa are concerned, they're still very early works with lots of bugs to be ironed out. I am sure in future iterations you will see lots of improvement in the overall user experience.
All that said though, my phone worked perfectly fine on eclair too, so i guess it's all about what you want from your phone, nothing is perfect, and different people have different needs or expectations.
I just love to see that our little devices are capable of so much more than people think or expect, so for what it's worth... there will come a time when it will be impossible for us to run the latest android, but i don't think that time is here yet.

I remember the firsts steps in development of froyo and after Ginger, the first versions were very buggy but now you can see smooth roms of those versions, the same is going to happen to ICS.
We all know that our devices are not supposed to run ics... But as we all have seen all those months of x10 mini development, all versions start all buggy and in the end, are fully optimized for our devices....

Gingerbread was the last phone-only android, Honeycomb was meant to be a tablet-optimized operating system, and with ICS google wanted to combine the two, that's why they never released the source for honeycomb, they didn't want it to run on phones. From ICS on, Google thinks they've solved the problem of different resolutions and use-cases...
So from now on, every android-release is meant to run on tablets as well as phones.. you can't blame them for aiming at increasing hardware capabilities, after all, you wouldn't expect to run Windows 7 on hardware that ran just fine on windows98.
Eventually, our little devices just don't have enough power to run the latest and grreatest operating systems... deal with it...
I remember when I installed the GB for the first time, e the bugs and speed in this was worse then in ICS (CM9) that I flash last week...
I'll report all bugs I see in ICS and wait to be fix.
I liked much more this ICS then the last GB released.
(Sorry my bad english)
I'm using CM9 right now and liked more than CM7, I have better performance and battery life than before, with few bugs of course, but I can live with that. The guys are really doing a great job with ICS! The GUI is amazing!
Don't forget what anancr said "I remember the firsts steps in development of froyo and after Ginger, the first versions were very buggy but now you can see smooth roms of those versions, the same is going to happen to ICS"
