id3tag and froyo//no apn to be shown with eplus//usb not working - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Android General

hello everyone out there
i have those 3 problems named above!
i have them no matter what build i use (froyo x or frx04)
with tmo sim everything is fine! eplus even if entered manually isnt showing up apn!
and id3tag:
in music player i can hear all the songs (with some lags when switching between lots of songs and sometimes while playing)
but 1200 out of my 1600 songs are listed without artist(!)
any way to solve this?
using cubed doesnt change a thing =(
and now usb:
i can attach it to my notebook and usb debuging is activating. android is asking if i want to copy files from computer but when i press the filetransfair button (i suppose its like "mount or charge" under donut!) nothing happens it just does nothing.
everything else is running gr8 as i dont use the cameras
-> its much faster and fluider than windows mobile on this phone! (i use only titanium from latest energy rom but hey it laggs!
sense is too heavy for me i hate such interfaces so i'm staying with froyo hoping for an nand release (=

This problem is discussed here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=922868
It seems to be eplus specific. For me the data connection only works on first boot...

i had this on my kaiser tooo and somehow another froyo build solved the issue so there must be a workaround!

I APPLIED STARTUPCLEANER 2.0
AND disabled everything expect google framework (on bootup)
and what happened?
EPLUS 3 APNS working 3g
realy
is this meaning, google mediascanner (i disabled before it started working), i preventing eplus apns?
anyone with epus please try this out!

Yeah the idv3 tag is the most annoying for me 90% of new music now is idv3 and pretty much my whole collection of lik 150 songs is all idv3. But I doubt we'll get someone fix it as I suppose atm people find camera functionality and such higher priority issues.

Yup have the same issue with my music, only a select number of songs show the artist, and I'm not exactly sure why. As I manually edited all my artist names and such the same way (right click/properties in windows explorer on my PC) and some show up while others dont.

There's two versions of ID3 tags. Have you guys all made sure that you're propagating both versions?

Tags
Use mp3tag and convert all tags to ID3v2.3 ISO-8859-1, because UTF tags not supported here.
Lost titles and tracks skipping solved.

There's v1 and v2 tags... This is more of an mp3-related topic/issue rather than an Android issue.

Oh I understand there are different version of the tags but what do you mean by propagate both versions?

How to keep a same time in wm and android?

I'm GMT -7, and my time never is different - I guess my WinMo ROM or service provider is updating the time...? That seems like the best solution. If you have cell service on the device, just make sure that the device receives time from your provider...
For me, this 'just works' - I didn't have to setup anything. I don't know why some do and others don't... but that's the solution. There's probably some atomic clock app for WinMo as well, but this really is a WinMo issue... and you're posting in the Android development section .
Thanks for your infomation, and i think i should try some rom from energy or jackos.
And if the post is not related in the section, you can delete it~

There is a good, free time sync app, here.
You can configure it to run at startup by creating the shortcut (using total commander) in the \Windows\Startup directory with the command line option "/silent"
For me setting the time-zone to GTM +0 (Casablanca) in android works. (with auto detect time via internet selected off).
btw, I'm from the Netherlands ;p

Yup. Some WinMo ROMs autoupdate the time, some don't. EnergyROM doesn't seem to do so, making it update from network requires going through a bunch of menu items. It's a real pain...

I've used EnergyROM ever since I got the TP2, always updated for me... Never changed any settings from the default - I've also flashed many different versions of Energy. Before I preferred the look/feel of Sense, but anymore I just use WinMo to boot Android, so I went back to Titanium .

Tha'd be odd. It seems GSM users have reported this issue MUCH more frequently than CDMA users - so perhaps that is the key...

Actually, it's probably always correct - if you assume it's GMT and not local.
My winmo is always right, to the second. I assumed it polled the carrier the same way some of my dumbphones have in the past.
The only time its ever been off was when I used a time sync tool in android to correct that clock. For a few minutes after booting back into winmo, that clock was off before it polled again and righted itself. Since I rely on my winmo clock and only play in android for now, I tolerate the android clock being off and no longer try to sync the time, though other than getting a sync tool from the market, I've never really tried to fix it. Might just be some normal android setting change is necessary.

It's a kernel bug actually... WisTilt2's 4/15 kernel doesn't exhibit the drift - or at least it's significantly less. Not sure what is holding it up from the autobuild, probably some piece of the patch that the repo maintainers don't like .
His patch removes some locks from the kernel message logger. Frankly, the fact that it works tells me we've got too much code spewing out debug messages while inside interrupt handlers. It's crap. You throw debug messages in while you're trying to figure something out. Once you have it working, turn them off.
The fact that these things are being left behind all over the kernel source is a pretty bad sign - either the developers got sloppy and never cleaned up after they got something working, or they just never got it working and moved on anyway.

I would agree .27 is a mess. I think that's why most of the kernel devs are looking to .3x to save us, instead of trying to fix the mess that .27 has become...
Back to the orginal topic... (kernal tangent was interesting )
Network time sync does not run automatically on all networks (GSM). Seems like a hit or miss... yes, you CDMA folks finally have an advantage!
For those using Energy ROM, just extract the attached file (link) to your \windows\startup folder and it will run the 'get carrier time' script at each boot back to WinMo. Or... you can use TotalCommander, locate t.mscr in windows and create a shortcut yourself and drop it in the startup folder.
For most people direct linking to t.mscr or t.exe will cause a pb.exe error. JVH3 has put together a cab that seems to work around this issue it can be found linked to this post.
Pretty sure this whole discussion is off topic to "android development" while kernel discussion is very relevant. So do we stay on topic with the forum section or with the post? Paradoxical.

[Q] GPS Data Collection?!

Hi, I'm new here, but I figure my question is as good as any other. I recently became proud owner of the Xperia Neo MT15, which is now rooted and thoroughly protected, but I noticed something about the GPS and Network Location that bothers me - each time I enable either one, it asks me to agree to anonymous data collection.. Well, I don't agree, and I see no reason why I should be denied the features, because of my belief. So my question is this - does anyone know which system apk controls this? I would really like to impose it some restrictions using Pdroid as to stop the data collection. Any input is appreciated, thanks.
IddAgent.apk --- Anonymous Usage Stats

Nope. Not the culprit, since I don't even have it. I do however notice a lot of calls for Network Location from com.sonyericsson.learningclient(which sounds logical) and devicemonitor(which sounds just suspicious). They start actively operating as soon as I enable GPS. I've disabled the access to most things for both and set GPS and Network Location data to be served as random. I don't think there are any other moles.
It's weird, because they both sound so harmless, when I look at their descriptions in the list you linked to. Maybe there's something else. I'll see if I can find anything.
Sony has a particular feeling to collect data .
Soon you will discover also that the sony Gps will not works without data at all, because is affected by a bug, and it drops every 5 minutes if you don't have data enabled.
For more informations, please, read my thread about gps on xperia phones

Holy... why did I ever buy a SE in the first place?! I love the brand, and I've loved every phone I've had/used (those include K750, K850, P1i). I'll try to see if I have the 5 min. bug.
EDIT: I'm not sure if i observed the behavior or not. I didn't go anywhere, but stayed on the window with the GPS and nav software on. The software never displayed a loss of connection. I did notice the GPS icon went to it's unfixed state twice for a split second, 5 minutes apart, but I guess I'm supposed to be on the move to notice the issue. All the while learningclient would call for GPS location and be fed random data. The wifi and data connections were both disabled. I'm going for a drive, I'll test and report back.

Hm, you don't have it? You deleted it? I just run a search trough my phone and found a lot of files with idd in their names. Some are even in etc/security and in system/lib there is even one in framework
there's even one folder data/idd who also have output folder. It stores some files in there but can't figure out what trigger loging.

I don't remember deleting IddAgent. The other two I track using PDroid. I just enable its notifications for everything and I watch what does what. learningagent seems very keen on getting GPS location, while it's on, and device monitor calls network location every once in a while, I see no good reason why.
If you are able to unlock your bootloader, and install a custom kernel like inteks, or nightelf ones (void guarantee), question about collecting data while you enable gps just dissapear. I dont know if there is a easier way.
If I wanted to throw away my warranty, I would have done it the day I bought it. I know a custom Rom would solve the issue, but I don't want to risk it with the warranty, not yet anyway.

Music player rename tracks

I'm not sure if others have had this problem but I'll explain anyway.
Last week, I spent hours and hours renaming all of my incorrectly named songs and setting the artist and album info. I done this for about 600 songs, at the time. I went onto the music player the next day to find that all the changes I'd made, were gone. So it wasn't showing album/artist info and some songs were back to being named wrong.
I'm just wondering if this is a problem within the Xperia S, or whether mine just decided to play up on me.
I don't really want to try it again until I know for sure (because of hours wasted) Any help would be great

I'm not sure but I think it's an Android 2.3+ problem. On my previous phone Motorola milestone, running on android 2.2, the tags and names of the songs, artists etc. were placed in the right order with the right tags etc.

OP did you just change the file names?
The player is reading the ID3 data, so unless all of it right you wont get the correct info on screen. This means changing artist, album artist etc etc. I recommend "Mp3tag - the universal Tag Editor" www.mp3tag.de/en/. Its donateware and performs perfectly in both directions.
I suggest you use beets (beets.radbox.org). It is a command-line based automatic tagger / library organizer that uses MusicBrainz to automagically (!) identify your music. So you just go into a folder with 1.mp3, 2.mp3 etc. and run beet import .
Have you used the SensMe functionality? If you do, that's one of the culprit. It takes your music info and tries to match it with Sony's database. It then renames all the music in the library. The only way to put it back the way it was is to retransfer all the files.

As I am still on other phone yet, I can't say for sure if it will work. Try Mp3 Editor or something like that from GPlay. Do it with a few songs, restart the phone and listen to all of them. If none of them have problems, keep doing it with the rest of the songs. I know it will be a hard job, but it's the only solution I can think from the phone.

Try droid3tagger from market, uses acoustic fingerprinting to identify tracks and can be set to automatically rename them.

I have so very many questions I dont even know where to start. Just like it said in the video I am a noob so this might even be in the wrong section.
For the starters a few questions come to mind (and yes, I did use the search button, viewed tens maybe hundreds of forum pages) so please would someone be so kind and help me with following
1] In the browser, when I click bookmarks, I find local but under that two other empty folders with my gmail adress but both empty. How do I remove them?
2] How to properly setup mail for exchange. I have my gmail and hotmail accounts added. Sometimes they work sometimes they dont and how the widget updates is really beyond me.
3] One thing that really bothers me since I like to keep my devices clean and arranged is uninstalling apps and games. I noticed that after uninstalling some files remain.
4] Another thing is that mostly with trial versions of apps, I cant seem to find them anywhere in my files folder therefore I cant check if after uninstalling all the junk is removed.
Besides that I can say that the phone is pretty good although the build and the pentile is kinda let down but enough has been said on this forum on that subject.
Thank you for your answers.

The same issue as on all computers... messy apps. The files on the sdcard do not really belong to the app so Android cannot delete them automatically. I agree that it's a terrible chaos after trying out several apps which is very annoying. Sadly that issue is present with all computers including GNU/Linux, Windows, ...

I'm also new to the SGSlll and I have a the same questions that were answered and it helped a lot but I got a couple of my own if it's not to imposing to ask,

2) why is there some games and apps that I can't find in play store, I tried to DL them from the Internet and it said you can't DL them in your country (Egypt) is there anything I could that will allow me to DL them?
3) Is there any ways to create a folder so that I can put all the games together for example??

Restrictions can be imposed on multiple levels
- Hardware specs (notably display resolution)
- Android Version
- Hardware name
- Country
- Carrier
In your case it seems to be the country. There are multiple descriptions on XDA and other sites, but afaik all of them include using a Proxy server. It's not trivial but unfortunately the only method for accessing them from the Play Store.

Not on the stock launcher afaik. You can create folders on the home screen but not in the app drawer.
There exist several other free Launchers in the Play Store capable of creating folders, try them out.

You can create folders in the apps drawer by clicking the left menu button > edit. Then drag an app (you should be able to see an empty folder icon at bottom left corner) and mount it over the folder icon. The app will now appear in a folder. Rest of the apps can be moved to the folder as well and you can name it whatever you like. Be sure to save the setting at top right corner. This folder can also be dragged to the home screen menu. Hope this helps.

That works well, did not know this. Personally I like to use Apps Organizer by Fabio Collini (on the Market for free). It also gives u the opportunity to create folders with your themed apps (i.e. games / tools / navigation / ...) The advantage here is that you can select your own icon for the folder to go on your home screen. Especially if you have a lot of themed folders (like I do) you can create a much nicer look this way.

The call button on the right side was removed in the LFB update. Samsung probably thought it was redundant and I agree with that. They could have made it optional though.
At the moment there's no way to get that back unless you replace that particular apk (dialer.apk maybe) with the older version of it.

another thing thats bothering me is that in my sgs3 and whole android so much stuff is synced shared dropboxed and other virtual sharing stuff that I feel like my own phone isnt private anymore.

That's fully configurable. Dropbox doesn't upload anything except you actually tell it to.
Go to Settings->Accounts->Sync and disable the Sync accounts and settings you do not need or want.
I'd recommend syncing Contacts+Bookmarks through Google and using SMS Backup+ to sync call logs and SMS.
With those present, even a lost/broken device would be acceptable in terms of data loss to me.

spotify on s5830i? possible at all?

Dear all, I have recently turned my s5830i into a dedicated music player with an sd card. I also want to use my spotify on it, but the android version is not supported. I tried an app called market helper, but it did not help much. Is there a definitive way around this compatibility issue and can you describe it or point out a guide for this newbie?
I am aware that the most posts are ancient here, but I would love to use this otherwise idle phone as a music player. Thanks in advance.
Use older version
I never used Spotify because I rather always download music so I can listen it anytime. So now I tried it to see if it works so:
You can download older Spotify version from here: ht*tps://apk.*cafe/download?file_id=918948/spotify-music
(I can't add links because I am "New user" so copy that and delete added stars)
I tried it (first scanned with eset, you never know) and it works well on, it it's just nothing for me.
For some reason I can't upload screenshot and app doesn't work, but Spotify works
it works but lags

Thank you, it works but the music stream is interrupted a lot as if it cannot load properly or something like ram is not enough (nothing seems overloaded on the phone though). Probably, no solution there, it was more like an experiment. Thanks again for your time.
