HW video rendering resolution issue - Folio 100 General

So I installed FolioMod 1.4, did a wipe, and restored most of my apps...
When I try to play a 16:9 video (using the toshiba player, or the hardware accelarator in rockplayer) it resizes the 16:9 vdieo to 4:3, and puts that on the left side of the screen (so it's not centerd)...
When I use the soft accelarator in rockplayer, the resolution is fine...
Is this a known issue? and how to solve this? it is very annoying...

Hi,
I don't get this issue and also have foliomod 1.4 installed. Maybe you install something that broke you video player app. What's the encoding that the video file is using? It could be related to the codecs you are using.

All videos are mp4... All video's are converted with the same software to the same format... the only difference between some is the ratio... 4:3 video's play fine (also centered), but all the widescreen video's mess up like I described in my first post...
The only installed videoplayers are RockPlayer, and the Toshiba player...
I'll put some avi/divx files on it, to see what they do, but these mp4 files should play fine...
Edit: So a DIVX widescreen movie is no problem, it plays full screen like it should be...
Specs of my mp4 files not playing right:
Video: MP4, 720*480 (NTSC Widescreen), 3Mbps, 30fps
Audio: AAC, 128 Kbps
Edit 2: Issue still exists, but I batch converted the MP4's to WMV with my I7... and they work fine...
But I still think it's weird that they suddenly messed up...

[Q] Gtablet Video Issue

Hello All,
I am running CWM and TNTlite 4.40. I am having issues playing video on it.. I tried playing the videos that it came with and some on them it would play no problem with the standard video player that it came with.. Then i tried loading my videos thru USB or microsd and it has a LAG.. I converted the video from 2GB mkv to Mp4. i used Rockplayer and it does the same thing.. The audio is fine but the video has a delay. Not sure what is going on or if it is the firmware it self. Can someone shed some light.
thanks in advance
regards
cd
What is your video encoded at? If it's high profile H.264 you may have issues depending on resolution (and at 2GB, I'm guessing it's not a 480p video!)
A program called MediaInfo (free) will tell you how your video is encoded - if you see anything like "[email protected]", it's too much for the Tegra 2 chip to handle. It will do [email protected] with some tweaks to settings (like no p frames). One of my other posts (shold be able to search under my profile if you're really interested) has Handbrake settings for a good 720p video encode that runs like butter and isn't a space hog either.

HD Video

I can't for the life of me get this to work i have this 1080p AAC/MP4 harry potter movie- works fine on my laptop and desktop- but wont play on this tablet.
Initially when I got the tablet i was excited and installed the gtabcomb rom (for 1.1) this was AWESOME, but obviously no hd video support (which is really what I am after...)
Ive tried CM7, Gtab TNT lite 4.40, Calkulins, and im about to try the vegan rom.
I have the 1.1 boot loader.
Ive tried like 5 different video players, none have worked except for the software decoding on rockplayer... HOWEVER this was 10 fps, and distorted.
What do I do here? I really want decent hd video.
Thanks!
EDIT: Vegan is clear and the audio is working properly all with the default player BUT the FPS is less than 15...
Now what ?
What player have you tried? For me, between qqplayer, mvideoplayer, and arcmedia, I can play just about everything under the sun.
:<
Going to try some other players now, i will make a list.
strangely - after having the video work (sort of ) in the vegan default player... I tried rock player again.
That fails- when i click hardware decode it just flashes and goes back to the video list... software decode does nothing... just black screen.
SO i uninstalled it.
And now the default vegan player doesn't work at all- just says " can't player this video" (or something like that).
So frustrating
EDIT:
Rock Player : Clear video but 15fps or lower, audio but jumpy.
QQ - Clear video imagery but 15fps or lower, no audio.
ARCMedia - Choppy video at 15ps or lower, choppy techoy - audio....
mVideo - "Cannot player this video" (exiting... then im back at the video list much like the default app)
Try moboplayer, but I dont think the gtablet can do 720p or 1080p unless properly encoded specifically for the gtablet - not powerful enough (ie stuttering).
Same
Mobo player with soft decoding works but still 15fps or lower.
What is the absolute best container, format for a 1080p file to be encoded?
Moboplayer plays almost everything I throw at it with very little stuttering while streaming from my home network using UPnPlay but the audio from the gtab is way to low. When I plug in headphones the volume is OK.
I have gone into sound settings on the gtab and the set device volume is always at 50% even after I increase it to 100%.
Suggestions?

Weird. My gtab's sound is the loudest out of the tablets I have available to me (ipad, iconia, and transformer).
Froyo
Are you running Froyo? Had the same problem until I upgraded to honeycomb. Now its nice and loud.
I thought there was absouletly no HD video support in HC :/ Is it possible to get smooth, quality 1080p playback with 1.1 BL + HC (I guess Gtabcomb?)
And how?! DO WANT!
:/
It would seem that even the stock rom does not play my video Guess it might just be the damn video lol.
Media info is saying MP4 container, h264 and acc audio.
:/
zzz
Someone please tell me what is going on, I can't imagine everyone is using these tablets without any video support...
I nvflashed to 1.2 BL - stock. bone stock, no new apps nothing.
and then i downloaded some trailers from here
http://www.h264info.com/clips.html
Now, the damn viewsonic site even says this the gtablet supports these:
S1080p H.264/H.263/ VC-1/MPEG-2/4/WMV9/DiVX 4/5 Video Decode, 1080p H.264/MPEG-4 Video Encode, Supports multi-standard audio formats, including AAC, AMR, WMA, and MP3
AND- the video (for instance the serenity hd dvd trailer on that page above) is:
Video Codec: H.264
Trailer Resolution: 720p (1280x720), High Profile (Xbox 360 Compatible)
Audio Codec: AAC LC
Resolution: Stereo, 48 kHz, VBR 128 Kbps
Why is that not playable?! I tried multiple other formats and nothing works...
I want to see this device in an out of the box way play hd video as it suggests... i can can't it?
Really frustrated, spent 4 hours tonight flashing pretty much every 1.1 rom and then nv flashing to 1.2 and flashing like 4 different 1.2 roms (including illuminate, which looked really promising but just gets stuck and the "Illuminate Android" screen...
Flash videos player (snotr.com) but youtube.com videos do not. (error occured).
EDIT: Just managed to get VitalPlayer installed (downloaded apk on computer and installed) - plays all of the above videos BUT still they are terribly slow frame rates... what am i doing wrong?
So encoding in MPEG-4 makes everything work... smaller file sizes, smooth frame rates... AAC audio seems good too.
Set bitrate at 4000 and I guess this is how ill have to do everything :/
I am currently running C&C 1.5 v6.
Streaming over UPnPlay.
Most .avi files play ok using the stock movie player - sound and picture
When I try the same file with Mobo the volume goes way down.
When I press the volume button up the on screen volume indicator gose from 50% to 100%, but there is very little change in the volume. The gtab volume indicator does not appear.
When I go back to gtab settings the volume has gone from 100% to 50%.
I have gone into the UPnPlay settings and switched between volume and volume DB with no change.
Look i know your trying to help but if you had read a single thing I have posted
* I HAVE NO ISSUES WITH VOLUME *
Just trying to get an hd video (preferably 1080p) to play at a decent frame rate (23.976+).
Thus far no h264 video works... they are all 15fps or lower.
I have found that a 720p h264 re encoded to mpeg4 @ 4000 kbps does play smooth.
However a 1080p h264 re encoded to mpeg4 @ 4000 kbps is (better than just h264) still sluggish, and the audio doesn't quite sync up.
I really just want to know what video container/codec will work best on a stock 1.2 BL T&T Rom.
I was replying to roberto188 regarding my ROM.
Didn't mean to hi-jack thread, I was just sharing my experiences and looking for help.
Well apologies accepted I am sorry for my mini-rage, just really frustrated trying to get some hd videos working on the thing.
Seems I am just going to have to deal without them...
No worries.
For what it is worth, I just switched to GtabComp 3.2 and the audio issues disappeared.

Try using this to convert your videos for the gTablet. http://dvdvideosoft.com/download/FreeVideoToAndroidConverter.exe
It's free and it has a setting for the Viewsonic Viewpad 10 (1024x600, 1.5Mbps, 128kbps AAC, 48khz, standard quality) and they play perfectly on my Caulkulin+Clemsyn Combo v6 (Froyo).
Thanks will do! I found that mpeg seems to work best but i def got hw acceleration working with caulkulin+clemsyn combo not sure if h264 is working but at least the videos are clear and crisp - I will see about this software thanks!
edit:
FYI Just tried the program, it converts them to mpeg-4 anyway just does it really clean, and faster than handbrake.
Good find TY!!!
so does this mean that when ViewSonic says the Gtablet can play 1080p....are they really saying if you convert your existing movie file into another format with different bit rates and special settings then the Gtablet can play 1080P?

[Q]NT Video Codec Compatibility?

I put a bunch of videos on my new MicroSD that I got in the mail yesterday, and while all of them will run in Moboplayer (except for American Psycho which is in AVCHD in a .m2ts container), they all seem to stutter a bit.
So, I was wondering what is the most reliable video codec and container for the NT?
It says that it supports:
3GP, 3G2, MP4, M4V, MKV, WEBM, H.264 (Baseline/Main/High profile) up to 1920x1080, MPEG-4 Simple/Advanced Simple profile up to 1920x1080, & H.263

but H.264 seems to stop running every few seconds for me.
Quick edit: Just finished uploading an MKV file and it seems to be the best so far, although the subtitles are coming up even though I disabled them in Moboplayer.
Any other recommended video players perhaps?
i use mx video player personally
yea mx video player is most smooth IMO. If available SW Fast decoding provides best playback of HD files 720p or 1080p. Of course it drains more battery so yeah...
Just installed it and it's running much better than Mobo was for me, thanks you guys.
Any time. Btw handbrake is a great way to convert your dvd's to mkv or mpeg4 format. Blurays will be too large to play, but most dvd,s will be about 700meg. I also use anydvdhd to strip the drm. On the computer i also use media browser for listing the movies. Bluray dvd's i have are played with media player classic hd with shark 007 codec pack
I grabbed 2 Youtube music videos - one 720p and one 1080p - both mp4 files. They work with no issues with the B&N video player but mx video player installed from the market wont play them. I don't get any errors or warnings its just stuck there at 00:00 with no movement and a black screen with the video controls - all i can do is exit. If I am to install one of the codec packs from the market - arm6/7 etc - which one should it be? Not sure what the processor is!

From what I understand you shouldn't install ay codex pack unless mx player tells us to

I think its ARM7 you want to get.
Also, mp4 is only a container filetype. The codec used for compression is also important, for example HuffyUV, H264, X263.
yea i have a video thats an avi but it closes out any media player right away...just opens the player then closes lol

i have an avi on my NT and it loads fine. i think the previous poster was right about the codec. the codec is more important than the container. you might want to email the developers who made mx video player and ask them about it.
I need to run g-spot on it, it might have a weird codec or something
Been using Mx Video and it has worked with every video that I have thrown at it.
h264 codec is hardware accelerated in MX Video player. Even FullHD videos are played smoothly.
What container are you using? I can't get HW acceleration to work for any h.264 files in mkv, mp4, mov, or m4v. I use MX player and it kicks over to the SW decoder every time.
Here are my discoveries about HW video decoding in MX Player:
1. originally I uploaded some 1.5 gig MKV file downloaded from the web to SD card and tried to play it, but nothing happened - MX played it in SW mode.
2. Then, I created/converted some small video to MP4 (H.264 and AAC) and tried playing it with MX - and it worked fine
3. Strangely, but after playing hand-converted video MX started to play MKV, but with glitches...
So I think MX has some bugs when run on NT or it is not fully compatible with NT.
EDIT: ArcSoft Media Converter was used...

No 1080p playback over HDMI?

Can anybody confirm that 1080p MKV playback (I tried all players) over HDMI just gives a weird image, like if it was an old VHS with very bad quality? Software decoding (if selected in MX Player) works over HDMI but its too slow to play the movie smoothly...
720p movies work flawlessly. On the device itself, 1080p plays like a charm..
Not sure if this helps you, but I was able to get a 1080p h.264 file to play back smoothly over HDMI. I even pulled up the status on the monitor I was using to confirm it.
It was a pretty high-bitrate file, too. It worked in MX player and Dice Player.
I tried both players and also tried different files... I used MKV HD movies, what kind of movie file did you test, I mean in which container was it packed?

[Q] How to encode video for playback on NT?

Hi,
I'm trying to make MP4 files from my DVD archive to play on NT. I'm using MeGUI and I have been through that process a number of time for my PC. However, the problem I have with NT is that it seems it cannot playback 16:9 or other wide formats that have non-square pixels correctly: during playback, it shrinks the video to display it with square pixels. No need to say that the same files play correctly on a PC or other devices (Xbox 360, network media player, etc.).
One solution is to resize the video during encoding. I tried that with HandBrake (couldn't figure it out in MeGUI though) and encoded a PAL 16:9 video (in the standard 720x576 pixels forat) into an MP4 file with 1024x576 pixels. It worked and NT played the file beautifully. Still this process is less than ideal as it reduces the overall quality and wastes space.
Is there any way to keep the original video resolution and still make NT to play it correctly? Also it would be great to know how to do that with MeGUI (HandBrake is fine but misses a few critical features compared to MeGUI).
Thanks,
AlefSin
