[Q] Android 3.0 - Folio 100 General

Now that it has released the Android 3.0 SDK, you can make a mod for our folio?
THX

Nope, developers need a full systemdump of the motorola xoom rom.
It wont be long before that will hit the internet.
There is one dump on the net already but missing some vital data.
It wont be long before that will hit the internet.
Expecting my folio today.....i couldnt resist my self, for 200 euro's it was practicly a steal!

Ahah! Yeah, me too. I bought mine last week. But then, you'll eventually end up screaming at the "crazy keys" . Apart from these and its poor LCD, this thingy has a wonderful fun/buck ratio!

200 euro, that's quite a bargain!
The current Honeycomb doesn't get good reviews running on the Xoom.
It seems to be released in a hurry, giving an unstable version

Thats what we have this community and it's DEV's for

Hi,
here you have more info

So this is it???

I recall about a month and a half ago, all of the xda peeps getting together and raising a big stink against viewsonic and nvidia about not supporting our choice of tablets, I also recall them saying that they were going to continue to support the tablet from that point on.
Well...... I haven't seen much from either of them and it seems that this community is content to sit back and and get fed a load of crap from 2 companies that should have better track records for customer service than they have shown us.
What gives? are we dead in the water? Did they just say enough to appease us in hopes that we would just go away? Are we just going to sit here and keep saying to ourselves that something is "coming soon"?
First and foremost, this should not be in the development forum as it has nothing to do with development, it should be in General or Q/A.
To comment on your post, yes, we are probably **** out of luck.

LOL ! ! RIP GTAB
actually there may be little stink becuase some people have realized that we dont' need VS to provide us what we need. They let the 1.2 bootloader out of hte bag, then closed the bag back up, rather quickly. The 1.2 bootloader is the same bootloader that Notion Ink uses on the Adam, also produced by Malata, also with the Tegra 2 Harmony hardware, and now also with the same bootloader as the G-Tablet.
So, since we've accepted that VS is going to be the proverbial dead beat dad, we've noticed that Notion Ink is a tad more responsible. So, what dad won't provide, maybe we can get from stepdad.
It's rumored that Notion Ink is getting an official GB update, with drivers from Nvidea. All VS had to do was make it possible for G-Tablet devs to port roms from Adam (done with 1.2 bootloader) and tada, they no longer need to support the device, because they can rely on others to do it for them.
We'd like them to continue providing updates, or at least admit that we are still here, but we don't necessarily NEED them to do it anymore.

There are new and fresh ROMs around for the tablet. Our "community" is fairly large and crosses many forums.
are there any honeycomb roms yet?
or any gb roms that dont disable the hardware video acceleration?

Just have a look around. Roebeet is working on a HC port. Adam evs have begun working on a port for HC, and Roe is working on fixing the bugs to make it work on the G-Tablet. It's still in Alpha versions, but has caused some pretty big waves in the community...but, video drivers are proviing to be the deal breaker there right now, too.

The CM7.1 nightlies are GB and have some hardware acceleration built-in now.
Sorry about posting in rom dev. I always check here first and was saddened by the lack of new items coming in.
It isn't just the software that I'm speaking of, what about all the hardware that other tablet vendors have available the docking stations actually made for their tablets, the cases and covers that fit without any modifications.
I went into a "tech" store the other day, won't mention which one, and when I explained that I already had a VS tablet the salesperson actually said.. "Well we sell real android tablets here so let me know if you want to talk about what we have in stock."

That sounds like a sales pitch to me. Just because some people don't realize the potential of a product, doesn't make that product extinct.
My buyer's remorse is increasing...
They had 7" Galaxy Tabs on Woot.com for $260 yesterday. I wish I knew they were going to be lowered in price so much in anticipation of the 10" version coming soon, because I would gladly have bought one of these instead...
I would take my gtab over a 7" galaxy tab anyday.

Just becuase it doesn't have the latest and greatest that a $800.00 tablet has, it does exactly what I want and I knew what I was getting into when I bought mine from WOOT.

Seriously ! Samsung is just as bad as VS when it comes to support in any way. Be happy with your purchase and in a year get a transformer when the price drops to 250 and it already has a fat stack of roms to play with.

I read about it quite a bit here prior to my purchase and knew that I'd be able to at least get it rocking a solid and clean froyo.. If I can get GB and/or HC on it eventually that's just icing on the cake for me.. (I say eventually, because I won't jump until hw vid accel is nearly 100%)

I look forward to kalel and the ice cream sandwich future. The only thing interesting to me in honeycomb are the pinch more tablet specific apps and the new 3.1 usb compatibility.
I hate to sponsor another site but you should go check out www.slatedroid.com Roebeet is there releasing tons of roms for this beast. I don't know why you are complaining unless you paid the full 499 or whatever price these tabs normally sell for. I picked mine up for 299 and haven't looked back. OCed to 1.4 ghz brilliant corners rom is running perfectly it ran great at stock too. Im getting between 3800 and 4100 in quadrant I have yet to get below a 3800. It runs all my games fine flash 10.3 and full market access. Its exactly what I want.
as far as hardware and accessories, you'll just never get that with ANY android tablet. sure, you'll get some things from the manufacturer, like our dock, and official tablet, but there just isn't anything pushing third party vendors to make products specific to any android tablet. The main reason is that each tablet is just so different.
If we are going ot bite the bullet and insist n NOT getting an iThing, then we have ot accept that we won't have as many iAccessories or iDocks, or iCases, etc.
I bought a zune...2 of them actually, knowing that I wouldn't be able ot use any of the plethora of accessories that were made for the iPod.

To buy or not to buy

Ok , a co worker is selling a 32G almost new touchpad. I really want to buy this since i missed out on the firesale and he is offering at the same price as he bought it for and also CM devs are working on it and judging by the videos i saw, i see a lot of potential.
Now since you guys are already on it and some of you have installed CM7 on it, i want to know if its a good investment as I intend to use it only with android. I know its still in alpha and developing stage, but is the hardware really worth the investment ?
Or should I hold on for a few more months and then buy something better ?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Well if he's asking for 150 that's a steal people these days are dying for a deal like that

yeah definitely jump on it.
and then send it to me.
thanks
jk
I've got the alpha loaded on mine, haven't messed with it to much but the major things are working no problem. My opinion, buy it! Great investment. Maybe its the CM7 team being humble or my ignorance but this build looks like it is closer to beta than alpha, my opinion
Edit: As far as the hardware, everything on it is great, except the camera. Its kinda crappy in either OS. The speakers are loud and clear. I had the processor('s) overclocked to 1.5ghz normally but up to 1.7 and it was stable, that was in webOS only, haven't got that far in Android. The one thing I like about the touchpad over other tablets, and it may seem gimicky, but the Touchstone built in inductive charging. I'm not to familiar with other official Android tablets, but the lack of expandable memory on the touchpad kinda stinks, but theres enough cloud services and what not to cover that. The list goes on, overall, theres a lot more positives than negatives on this device. No regrets!
Thanks guys. Really appreciate the honest answers. I actually got my hands on it today and im pretty impressed.
I think i'll buy it and 150 is a steal like you guys pointed out. Cant wait to get on the development forums and start messing around with the CM7.
Thanks guys!
Definitely get it. I bought one during the firesale and had doubts about webOS. Now I love it. I also have a Asus Transformer but I have only used it 2 or 3 times since I got the TP. I basically gave the transformer to my wife. Now I love WebOS. It is definitely more user friendly than honeycomb. I wish there were more apps, but there is still an app for pretty much everything. I hate to see how kill what palm worked so hard for, but that's the only way I would have ever experienced it, because I damn sure wasn't going to pay $600 for a tp.
Definitely get it and just give webOS a try. If you like Android I think you will be impressed with webOS. It has a look and feel like Android with a skin rather than a full separate OS. If someone could make Android apps run on the Touchpad I wouldn't be able to find a single bad thing to say about a TP at all.
Also please don't think I am any sort of palm/hp/webOS fanboy trying to troll. I am truly and Android fan and will always be, webOS has just grabbed more of my attention in the tablet space, for now. That could all change after ICS is released.
Good luck, and definitely get it. Worse case u don't like it and could still sell it for a small profit.
lol when i went to Android i kept trying to swipe up to change apps.
LOL
Hey guys! hope ur all doing well
so i am looking for a nice tablet and i feel for the hp touchpad. The problem is: Its not sold in my country so i have to buy it from Ebay. I am now wondering is 260$ worth buying the HP Touchpad? It will be 300$ including shipping, thats the cheapst i could find on Ebay. I was looking for the motorola Xoom but its very expensive..with shipping it could be 450-500$ for the Xoom. So help me out plz, should i buy it?! never owned a tablet before, and from looking at the reviews, WebOS looks awesome, so smooth and then u'll always have the chooice to put android (i think with ICS it will become even better when the source code is released) what is your thoughts? hit me!

I agree. I like Webos.. Its pretty.. Easy to use.. I like the multitasking concept.. Though I just added perfect task switcher in Android which sorta gives you the same thing though not as good. Android is clunky compared to it.. Because its made for for small screens.. But I still love it and haven't booted webos since cm7 lol...

Same here! Still getting used to the onscreen "soft keys" as well
At the fire sale price or close to it, it's a no brainer. Not even worth asking...
Worse comes to worse if you absolutely hate WebOS, you can always sell it and at very least get you money back.

MIUI and CM7 Progress report

I have some ideas for 2nd init that I am going to try today. Going to see exactly how 2nd init on the X used a hijack zip rather than just init.rc like we have now. It seems like it's executing in the right spot. Just not loading what we need to.
Sounds Pike a good start keep us posted. This is exciting

Good stuff...u gonna be on IRC today?
Ill be checking it occasionally when I have time...at work now.
good luck
Well I cant do much today but I looked at some more documentation on the atrix's 2nd init and the actual init part came straight from the Defy like the x's did. Going to try making a wrapper to load the x's hijack which should load a hijack zip and then we could load everything properly. Our 2nd init works via moto_charge_mode or w/e that bin is (something like that) which is why it needs to be plugged in to drop into 2nd init. So I was gonna write a wrapper to try and load the hijack bin from the X since we don't natively have a hijack file. Essentially what it will do is try to load charge_mode and then the actual file would load hijack inside of it. We did something similar to delay the RIL loading on the D2G
Its nice to know you are actually doing something with the phone. Last time we donated a phone to a dev, we didn't hear a peep from him until he said he was getting rid of it to CVPCS. Which is good he got it to CVPCS but he never kept us updated. I for one love knowing what's going on and wish you the best of luck in getting us some CM7 and MIUI love. I can't wait to make hybrid of my Molten ROM and CM7

Wow that was lame of him lol. Anyways I am doing it because I started falling out of love with my d2g after seeing the X. Not to mention it wasn't a challenge anymore to work on. I do see a lot of potential in the phone given that it scores the same as my D2G in quadrant with my ICS MIUI rom when I have gingerblur on the phone. So it impressed me a bit, especially since it doesnt have neon.
Edit: Speaking of cvpcs I have been keeping in touch with him via twitter as well. I get along with all the other devs out there =). Haven't gotten to touch base with koush yet but I do speak to p3droid and cvpcs from time to time.
This is good news. I've been dying for CM7 since I heard of it after I got the X2.
Keep up the good work and if there's anything I can do to help out just let me know.
Sent from my Eclipsed and ICS themed X2.
cvpcs from what I can gather from his twitter is trying to port ICS over to the X and isn't (and pretty much has no plans to) helping us with the X2.
And ace, I think you're doing is right in theory, but I know we aren't going to be able to use charge_only_mode to use the hijack/2nd-init unless we're going to want to plug in our phones to the wall every time we turn on the phone. The reason our BSR uses it is because you can't draw to the screen without certain services being started (which are started when charge_only_mode is). We aren't going to need those services started if we're just going to hijack and then 2nd-init. I can show you the script I use to hijack/2nd-init for porting over the CWMR and the one I have for when I was working on CM7. It's basically like the hijack binary that is compiled for the X and the others, but in a shell script (that works for our phone).
Also, PM me if you ever need to bounce ideas off of me or want me to try something out.
Yeah, shoot whatever you got to me. I wonder if we could use just a wrapper for hijack. Idk if anyone has tried that yet. Those services may not start inside the bin. idk enough about the charge only mode except it kicks off when its plugged in
If you could just post that here or get it to me as well i would be interested. I have not seen any actual implementation that works on the x2 so far so i would be super interested in what you have done.

=( the motherboard I bought for my thinkpad was bad. Just contacted the seller (it was supposed to be 100% tested.... yeah..) It isn't that it doesn't turn on... its the it has bad ram on the gpu in it. I get screen corruption in the bios, in windows (in windows it's so bad it bsod's) and on and off the dock. That wrecked my plans yesterday to dev at night. Like I said, I can use my work laptop.... just sucks having to adb push everything. Not to mention my thinkpad has a more complete set of tools. I don't have the rom signer or anything else on here. I even have my boot.img decompiler on there.
You need an early christmas gift for yourself man! There are some pretty good laptops out there for under $400. Not going to set any speed records, but they have some pretty high end tech in them that is only a generation or so old. I was looking for laptops for both my parents and came across a ton of good deals! I personally prefer my built desktops though.
PC Direct is down the road from me, so I trust them a lot. Here are a couple examples.

Eh, my thinkpad is a t60p (came out in late 2006) It has a Core Duo 2.16 ghz, 4 GB of ram and a dedicated video card. My old one had a FireGL V5250 but the new board only has an X1400 in it. So it's pretty decent imo. My work laptop is an Elitebook 8440p and is much more powerful... Just that its much more locked down too lol. The seller did say he's shipping a new motherboard tomorrow thankfully.
Edit: Oh and the hard drive is a 320 GB 7200 RPM drive

I checked and i don't have any IBM's, but i have a lot of Dell, Alienware, and Asus. I mostly pick those to work on because of exandability. What would be an ideal laptop you would need for development? (screen size, cpu, gpu)? Of all the laptops i ever had i must say Fujitsu are my favorite by far, if you have/had one you understand. I don't have any portables except for a dell D430 12" only thing is that it has a zif drive not the fastest

Under 15 inches. At least a dual core, support DDR2 (Since thats the only ram I have, unless you throw some in) For gpu, anything but Intel and hopefully discrete if possible. Not going to be picky lol. Just needs to be similar to my thinkpad. My thinkpad has seen better days, thats for sure. Not gonna lie, they're tough mother ****ers. I actually jumped on mine with the lid shut before to show it won't hurt the screen.
I've been working in IT for over 15+ years and personally own about 6 IBM laptops, I'm also Lenovo Warranty Repair Certified and I'd still not jump on those things to prove their durability.
I've seen sales reps break their screens by sitting things on them much lighter than I am. I think the only laptop I would ever say would probably be OK if I jumped on it is a toughbook. Even then, I'm not sure proving its durability that way is all that sensible

I don't know, but would say just as soon as they show up on the Archos store website, but...
Even IF they did start selling them this month Dec. 2012, in all honesty I would not even consider buying one until at least July or August of 2013. Seems to take Archos at least that long before they can get any firmware that is even remotely close to being usable for any of their devices.
I bought a 101 G9 that is just now coming up on being one year old. Since I got it, I've gone through at least half a dozen "official" firmware upgrades and just about as many "test" firmware upgrades, and then they royally screwed things up with the last 3 new firmware upgrades so I then had to...
Learn how to get an ADB USB driver installed, learn how to use ADB to install an un-official SDE, and then install an older "rooted" firmware just to get it to work again. And I NEVER had any want, need, or desire to have "rooted" firmware at all to start with!
But, if you just have to have the next new piece of garbage Archos makes... well, good luck with it. With the way things are going there are going to be plenty of FAR BETTER Android tablets available in the next few months from OTHER companies.
BTW: I knew a Steve Adams back in high school (back in 1970), but I doubt that you would be that person. In fact, doubt you even ever lived here in the U.S.A. ... but, just thought I'd mention it.

No sir, it is not I. I have had pretty good luck with the archos tablets I have. I really like the 8" form factor, and my 80g9 works well. And contrary to popular opinion, the archos tablets I have are really tough, my sons 80g9 has launched down a full flight of hardwood stairs, fallen off everything and still works great.

I did not really think you would be the same Steve Adams I knew way back, especially since most of the people in any forums about Archos products are usually somewhere in Europe instead of the U.S.A. where I am.
As far as the "hardware" side of things go, for the cheap price I can not complain much about my Archos tablets.
However, the fact that they can NOT seem to make any firmware that actually works correctly for their devices IS a problem I am not very happy about.
My first was a 101 G9, upgraded to 3.2.80 and worked fine, then had to go through a dozen upgrades ("official" plus "test" versions) before things worked again with 4.0.7 (and the WiFi was still not as good as with 3.2.80). Then, they royally trashed it with the 4.0.2x firmware releases. All of that in less than one years time! No other company puts out that many BAD firmware releases in that amount of time!
Most of the BETTER companies release one, maybe 2 new firmwares a year, but if you count up all the ones (including those I skipped) since I bought mine Archos put out about 18. That's totally ridiculous and idiotic if they actually expect to keep anyone using their products!
If you throw out older devices, there is not anything that Archos currently sells that actually does work anywhere near correctly right out of the box. Just look around the various forums and you'll see that.
As such, the Archos 80 XS is simply NOT WORTH BUYING until Archos gets firmware the really works correctly on it, and I really doubt that will be until at least six months from now (like maybe July 2013)... and then they'll screw it all up with some newer Google Android version. So, why buy it to start with? Would be better of buying a Google Nexus 7 or 10 knowing that it WILL work out of the box, and that any newer firmware will NOT screw it up (the way Archos has repeatedly done).

£178 from Systo

Although I prefer the look off the 101 as the chipset is so much better.

new batch manufactured

Hi
Is this real? 500 units made new freshly arrive China.
http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=...li_trackid=1_501bb04e88e8661afc97af315acde3b6
Snapdragon MSM 8660 dual core 双核,1.5GHz, 4G LTE,4G HSPA+
converted to USD is 284
Here it is on eBay.
It's on eBay as well, brand new for $253 with free shipping. I can't post the link, but you know how to search on ebay . . . (Just type the words you want into the search bar and hit enter--it's fairly simple.)
This should get development going, no?
probably not. that has been the price for quite a while now..
when showp will manage to crack it and to get a proper kernel - that would get development going..
it seems to be very hard to get something done with this device.

That's a shame. I didn't realize it was so cheap for so long--is the only thing really holding this tablet back the lack of 4.x support? I thought when it came out, the reason it didn't sell was because it so expensive . . . Now that the price is so low, why wouldn't people start picking it up? Also, I don't see anyone selling it this cheap anywhere else, at least brand new.
Plus, the more people that pick one up, the bigger the demand/incentive for 4.x support, which HOPEFULLY translates into more donations for developers.

Update: the $253 BIN JetStreams are now gone from eBay. There's another guy selling 10 (1 has already sold) for $280 with free shipping.
it started off as ultra-expensive and got very little demand.
seeing the low demand HTC and at&t neglected the device, not bothering to update it to 4.x android. that pretty much killed it.
the rest of the units are being sold around in relatively low prices, most of them refurbished.
since no developer purchased the device - there's no development going. the device has such tiny community that its considered dead. look at the forum here, practically no movement at all. no developer would get his head into this sick bad. we had to find one, collect money and buy a device for an excellent guy to work on. and as good as he is, its still taking months to overcome HTC's **** job on this one.
but all of that doesn't really matter. once showp1984 will get the kernel to work, i'm guessing we'll be jumping pretty much straight to android 5.x. and you will see some action in the forum.
I hope you're right. The hardware on this thing is so good (except for the "low res" screen), it's a shame it got killed off so quickly. Is there anything we, the non-programming members of the rooting community can do to help? Other than send showp our positive thoughts, and eventually, our money. ?
eventually showp will crack this kernel thing, and then we (non-programing) could try and look for as many ROM developers as we can. this will create a pool of ROMs and maybe revive this device a bit.
Ohhhhhh dilema for me, price dropped to 225 us$. Should I? Or wait for new HTC unknown when. Or get 4cores? What say you guys?
This is not the droid you're looking for.
every other tablet goes for this price...
if u can wait - do so and see if the development worked.
if u cant wait - don't touch this one.
Ouach, you got in. I'm a 7" phone tablet person. Was pondering this jetstream because HTC sense, then the sync is so much better Samsung kies.
Current P1000 damaged a few times concern times up, need a replacement soon. Tried wife's 4.7" but impossible to go back now. Size up is the way. I don't game on android. Just work, comic, reading, little bit video during flight or waiting.

You're right if there was development here, no doubt I won't be itchy to join you guys. I really like this Jetstream.

Updates?
Hey guru,
I can't reply on the development posts yet, but I was wondering--any word from Dennis on development?
Also, I realized DoomLord already released a kernel for the JetStream . . . What is Dennis working on for us now?
Thanks!
dennis is still working. he's creating a proper kernel using the newest linux versions. that is required for the kernel to support JB versions. since there is no other developer or any similar device - he's doing all the work himself - which takes time (also because he's working on other devices).
what doomlord made was far from perfect, and caused alot of issues for some of us. dennis is much more thorough in his work.
So, what I'm seeing here is that the Jetstream might be worth getting. I've been wanting one for a while now, but just haven't done it. I'm actually waiting to get my wife a Sam Note 10.1 before I get a tablet. She really wants one for work and I want the Jetstream, first, because it's HTC's only 10" tablet, and second, just to play with. I've been watching this forum just to see how much hope there is and it sounds promising.
i would wait for the development to finish. i'm not suggesting the kernel won't work - but it doesn't exist yet. wait for it..
I agree with Guru, but if you just need a tablet for basic stuff, like web browsing, email, Netflix, etc., the Jetstream is fine for all of that. Some apps are not compatible because it's still on 3.1, but otherwise it's a solid tablet for a pretty good price right now. If you NEED ICS or JB, then I'd go with something else, or, like Guru suggested, wait.
