[Q] Should I buy Optimus One P500 - Optimus One, P500, V General

Hello friends!
I have to buy a new phone with Android 2.2. I saw this phone and found it to be pretty reasonable. Problem is that none of the dealers here are ready to give a demo of the phone and I dont know how does the display looks, the quality of the touch screen and the speed of the phone.
I had been using Samsung Galaxy 3 before this and got really pissed off with its speed, although the touch screen and the screen colors were very good.
Can anyone tell me how does the phone behave. Moreover, some one told me that the touch screen of this phone doesnt behave like the Samsung phones. Unlike Samsung touch screen in which we just need to give a slight touch for the phone to react, in this phone we have to press slightly. Is it true?
Please help.

Yea its a liitle bit true about touch but with me it happned only in apps when i tried to make my fingers fly over the phone.
A little advice buy lg optimus Q becasue its better!

Why don't you watch review videos on YouTube to get an idea of the device? Optimus One is my first Android phone, and I really love it. Have had it for about a month now, but still can't stop showing people what it can do, and playing with it all the time till the battery drains out LOL. For the price, it's a really good device, compared to others like xperia, or htc (from the same price range).

How much will Optimus Q cost in India???

How about browsing your local stores mate?
There are some slight issues with O1 , some of them being fixed by mik and caveman's work. Also Noejn and Paolo , the authors of the best ROMS , at least in my opinion , hold title to : Void(best overall ) , Prime(stability ) , Megatron( best performance ) and Paolo's LOL rom which is the only one to cook a 2.2.2 version of android .
Also the phone has officially received Android 2.2.2 recently and will receive pretty soon Gingerbread .
So if you're in doubt about the support and popularity that such a budget received then stay assured that you have nothing to worry .

Cost is exactly same as galaxy 3

What about Sansung Galaxy Ace against LG Optimus

it will cost around 15k or rs 15,ooo in india.
but if u r low on budget then p500 is best choice i have it for a month and cannot let even anyone else touch it!!!!!!!!

Samsung doesn't give more than 256 MB ram on its non flagship phones. P500 has 512. Only this feature is enough for you to make a choice.
Samsung is playing a very dirty game by restricting the ram of all its newly launched non-luxury phones. I7500 died only due to ram. Spica is taking its last breaths.

are you sure they uses Qualcomm processor? i think they use Samsung's inhouse SOCs. but i think that can be tested by overclocking the chips to 760-800Mhz.

not really worth the extra 3.5k INR. you are getting just a bigger screen, better & usable camera. what you loose are: better screen (cause both uses same resolution), ram, battery life, weight.
if you use the camera lot & ok with less battery life, go for Ace. but Optimus One still has lot of life left. also i doubt Ace will ever taste official Gingerbread.

Belive me dude its real!
one of my friend took it for only 5 mins he couldn't leave it!!

I personally will never buy another Samsung phone again. Maybe Android, but even then I'd be very careful... From my experience their software is buggy, and they don't update it either. It makes no difference if the model is 200 euros or 400 euros, you'll get one or two updates until your model is old already.

Are you sure that Optimus has 512 MB RAM because if it has, thats some thing to go for. Moreover, can some one please tell me the colour quality and touch screen quality of LG. As per the specks of the phone, Optimus has only 256K colour while all other phones these days has 16M colours. As for the touchscreen, do we really have to press a little for the screen to react. Moreover, does a Optimus have a QVGA or a HVGA screen type??

It has 512 MB RAM and HVGA res. Why do you call 256k ONLY ? It's enough, 16M is crap, you cannot see the difference between them. (don't get me wrong, but I would not pay more for the same image/clarity/brightness on a TFT/LCD panel; AMOLED is something else)

Any idea as to when will any of the below mentioned models be launched in India and whats going to be an approx price:
LG Optimus 2X SU660
LG Optimus 3D P920
LG P990 Optimus Speed
LG Optimus Black
LG Optimus Mach LU3000

hey wait a little bit and buy a samsung galaxy gio!

[Q] Should i buy LG OP1 or Dell XCD35(ZTE BLADE)?

I have seen games lagging in OP1 so shud i opt for Dell XCD35 or OP1 is great ? plz help folks .!
Well, Blade has a bigger screen and a nicer resolution but the processor, ram and gpu are the same. Plus you can't say it's better-looking.
Some games are lagging on the stock ROM but if you're thinking about modding your phone, the performance issues will be solved.

Well if you really want hd games then I suggest that you should save mor money and buy a more powerful device. This one is not for hd gaming, it's a budget smartphone...
More browsing, chatting etc - ZTE Blade
Games - o1
Cos they share the same chip but Blade aka XCD35 has a higher res screen ... so what lags on o1 will lag on the Blade ... But to be honest, none of these are meant for bleeding edge gaming ...
I'm an owner of an LG P500 but i suggest you to buy ZTE Blade. I wanted to buy it but in Italy we don't have it
ZTE Blade has a nice community like LG O1? There's a lot of ROMs like the ones to O1? Buy the phone just to buy without not even a little community is not so good.
Look by this side too. Now, by the posts above, make your best decision based in what you need and the support you will receive post buy.
Keep in mind that Optimus one P500 have bad sound quality, it makes all the time a backgroud buzzing/static noise, the noise is present in the phone speaker and in the headphones. I can't use my P500 as mp3player because of the loud background noise (it doesn't have anything to do with the headphones I use).
I wish I knew before I bought it.

Never heard of that before. Mine p500 never had sound issues and either have read something like that.
this depends on your standards, maybe some people don't mind having a background noise.
the speaker background noise is not audible in noisy places like in the street.
google and you will find some threads about it.

I so wanted to buy the ZTE blade, but it just would not ship to my country, so at last I ended up with my O1. Though I'm satisfied with it, it's true that it lacks in terms of sound quality. :/
Is zte blade same as that of dell xcd35,coz it looks same but in gsmarena it shows step has 512mb ram and dell has only 256 MB ram..and someone here said zte has an arm 7 processor, but I cannot see that in GSM arena...

Well, upon looking up the Dell's specs a BIG minus strikes me:
256MB DRAM
v. all the Optimus ship with 512MB DRAM, which can make a difference.
All else being equal(i.e. same SoC), I prefer the screen size/res of the Dell...
i had/have both. I had the blade (oled screen) for about two months. The display broke while i was loading my car.
You couldn't see a scratch from the outside, it's just the displays are very sensitive and the blade has a cheap body.
Aside from the better resolution of the blade, i'm much more happy with the p500. It takes a lot more beating, seems to be a better package all together and the casing is higher quality.
The original blade has 512 MB ram, just like the p500. The newer blades only have 256 MB but some of them can be "repartitioned" to use the extra ram. However, this is dangerous and if it fails, you brick the device.
Yeah Install a customr ROM and the performance issue will be fixed. Mine was fixed.
I make u get Nexus One for 2nd hand lol...

[Q] Samsung Galaxy Gio S5660

I'm Confused between Samsung Galaxy Gio S5660 And LG Optimus One P500.., Which is the best one?
LG P500 have 600mhz (MSM7227) with 419MB RAM where as, Gio have 800mhz (MSM7227-1 Turbo) with 278MB User RAM, Which one should i buy?

Galaxy Gio looks to be a nice deal but I would still say LG O1 even though it has a slower processor.
LG O1 has 512 MB RAM and will be getting official 2.3 within the next 30 days max while as far as I have read Gio's 2.3 update is not planned yet and also it has less RAM.
And if you plan to root the phone, the LG O1 has an awesome Dev community with some great custom ROM's.
Positive points for Samsung Galaxy S5660:
+ Better display (16m)
+ DNSe sound enhancement (I don't know what that is)
+ Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n
+ More processing power (800Mhz)
+ Stereo FM radio with RDS
+ lighter (102g instead of 129g)
Positive points for LG Optimus One P500:
+ More user memory (about 170MB basic)
+ More RAM (512MB)
+ Upgradable to v2.3.3 (coming very soon)
+ More battery power (1500mAh instead of 1350mAh)
It's up to your taste now =]
I'd vote for OO P500
Samsung medium-end devices have very poor support, either from Samsung nor from the comunities
P500 can totaly pwn any devide to 300€ with tweaks and improvments from XDA devs, imho.
If you intend to use the phone as mp3player you must know optimus one has bad sound quality. THREAD
Also some users complaint about dust under the screen.
The weight of optimus one is not a problem, you will get used with it from the first day, my previous phone had 86g.
In my opinion the single problem with optimus one is the bad sound quality.
Go check both phones in a store and decide then.
Right. If you want to mess around with roms, scripts, enhancements, etc h4x0r stuff then P500 is the ideal.
If you want (as soberspine said) a multimedia phone, then probably Gio will be sightly better.
Go for the device with more RAM and a better battery. Trust me. Android + small RAM isn't a good combination.
But if you want to use it for music I would recommend Samsung. DNSe is not something amazing but it's pretty good (DNSe as in Digital Natural Sound engine - I have it on my Samsung mp3 player and I really like the way it sounds).
Thanks for reply guys.
Thanks guys..., thanks for replying.,
i've read somewhere that gio have gingerbread rom on samfirmwares and O1 have some noise problem in speaker as well as headphones also., in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=842047
and also the dust under screen in O1.

Brand - wtf man, you're buying stuff because of the name written on them or because you like them?
Multitouch - lol, O1 also has multitouch :|
Camera - both have 3.2mpx autofocus snappers, maybe Samsung's sensor is slightly better but either way none does well as a shooter
Led flash - yes, it's true, it's handy
Music - only for people who use it (I prefer not to drain my phone's battery with music so I use mp3 players; and that's very rare because most of the time I listen to music in the car - so not everyone needs music on the phone)
Dust - I keep hearing about dust under screen; well, mine really doesn't have a bit of dust under its screen, maybe it depends a lot how you keep your phone
Neocore score - benchmark results are just benchmark results, real life usage is different

Ace is to samsung as iphone is for apple.. f***ing expencive and not that good, not even close. Ace is nearly at the same price than Galaxy S i9000
imho, LG p500 is the best handset to 390 usd.
In Singapore, O1 is more expensive than Gio. Gio's only 265 dollars
look's like there is a war against ace and gio... i want to buy an android smartphone this summer and i really don't know what to choose... So what can i buy with 200euros? that's a question especially for guys from Romania! have a good time!

LG Optimus Successor Already?

http://phandroid.com/2011/07/12/lg-optimus-pro-and-lg-optimus-net-get-official-overview-videos/
Supposedly the LG Optimus Net is the successor to the O1. Kinda mad that the O1 is still fairly new and there's already a successor to this beast, but it isn't really much better.
The only changes:
- 800mhz cpu processor
- Comes with Gingerbread
- New design?
Not much to call it the "evolution" of the P500, I´m pretty sure that CPU it´s still ARMv6.

That should of been what the O1 should of had when it came out really.. I hope they don't forget the O1 because people would probably buy that over the O1.
It's an O1 with a maybe better shape and an 800 Mhz cpu... It has Bluetooth 3.0 and maybe we have 2.0 but I'm not sure about that...
Anyway LG said that this gingerbread update for O1 was the last update so net or not net our phone won't get any other update.
Bluetooth 3.0
Wifi b/g/n..
What makes me envy is that is i my O1 40 days old & 800mhzz default clock...gggrrrrhhhh....
Most important the new LG maybe wont have the dust problem and the crappy sound quality.

And No Touch Screen bug. I really hope LG can get their brand as high as Samsung, Moto, and HTC. Right now they have a pretty good low end device line, but they are lacking their high-end devices. Many LG devices are plagued with bugs and build quality issues and it sucks because I believe LG has good intentions and I want people to regret pushing LG away as an option.
Optimus net may lead us to official updates beyond 2.3.3.
Sent from my LG-P500 using Tapatalk
This phone has just 3.6 Mbps hsdpa speed.
not even a year that O1 is out and already a replacement..how typical
I checked the specs from gsmarena and indeed it uses an armv6.
Im not judging it as a phone but there is no reason for someone to go and buy it if already has an O1.
O1 is still having plenty juice in it for a low end device and by this move lg is like pushing aside their current customers.
Even Optimus net 2.3.3 can reveal something for us. Because our official gb is not very fast. May be Optimus net gb will be more fine tuned and speedy. LG will also put a slight higher price on it.
If its gb version turns out to be better than ours, and assuming it has the same specs as ours, this may offer one more area for fun and development.

What do you mean by support? If its further software upgrades, then no. LG never really provided support for our phone actually. Even their PC Suite is unusable. Even though O1 is a good phone, I was pretty much deceived by it after purchasing it. I don't think I'll ever buy another phone from LG in the future.

As some ppl already said its still a Qualcomm MSM7227T chipset clocked at 800mhz
Full specs
http://www.gsmarena.com/lg_optimus_net-4043.php
The camera has been lowered to 3.15 and the internal memory to 150mb I´m really disspointed of this because i really thought LG would make a real new O1 with more specs like 3.5" screen with 16M colors, led flash, frontal cam, ARMv7 800mhz proc, and keeping it budget, more like a step between the actual O1 and the Motorola Defy, but this really sucks, the only good thing is that maybe this device gets Ice Cream Sandwich and maybe it could be ported to the O1.

I wouldn't jump ship before trying out the phone though. Maybe try to see how games run on it since the O1 was plagued by the multi touch bug and see if that exists. For price it wouldn't be much more higher than the O1.

Let your first priority be
Wildfire S and the second one motorola defy.
None of those will give you the feeling of a real improvement. But if you don't want to wait and spend more money on a much better device I suggest you choose the Wildfire S. The Defy is also a nice phone. The first Wildfire and Gio are not an option.

well we already got 1 miui phone m1 in the same price so yes we will defintely see some price slash in many phones if m1 wins the dual core category but still if any1 wants to go ahead than its not at all bad he can enjoy his phone fr the time being and than again change the next year as a lot is expected from defy too as the thread is growing fast- but yes not to match with high end phones obvious
i see what you guys are saying and maybe it is a good idee waiting.
i dont know how it works where you guys stay but here in SA those phones are on contract for 24 months, the defy contact is R89 for R100 airtime + 25 free sms + 10mb data for 24 months.
the wildfire S contact is R99 for R100 airtime + 25 free sms + 10mb data for 24 months.
currency: $1 = +/- R8
so there you have it. what do you think know?
is the wildfire S worth R10 more a month then the defy?
and when i go get it ill look for the red lens... if its green then its a no no...

It's actually the best ideea. If you really want to upgrade your phone, get at least 1ghz single core, at least 3.7" HVGA etc.

[Q] LG Optimus One vs Samsung Galaxy Ace

Hi everyone, I got a question for you phone savvy people.
I currently have the LG Optimus One (P500) with Koodo Mobile (Sub-Section of Telus:Canada).
The Samsung Galaxy Ace has just become available and I've been strongly considering it. I've read a lot of reviews and just can't decide.
I use my phone mainly for texting and talking. I don't use data, and just use apps occasionally like Twitter whenever I have wifi. I do like to take pictures, but not videos. I don't use my phone for music or video.
So basically, I'm leaning towards switching to the Ace for $50.
What do you all think I should do?
*My phone is indeed rooted, and I much prefer the rooted version. I have no idea how rooting is on the ACE though.
Thank you.
i have had the SG ace for a few weeks and i have to say, its a nice SMALL phone
(this display is smaller than P500) ... but, its realy no comparable to P500.
The display has a lower resolution, you see LED pixel every time, and the performance is very pore.
Sorry to say that, but forget the SG Ace
+ Larger screen on the Ace.
+ Better camera on the Ace.
+ The Ace is a little smaller and 0.56 oz lighter. I'm mildly annoyed by how heavy the P500/P509 is, so I actually do care about this... a little.
- Less developer support for the Ace. This would concern me. LG must have sold a buzzillion of the P500/P509, so I assume it will continue to have good dev support.
- No 3G with my carrier with the Ace. I could easily live without that, but it's still a small con for me (obviously, this won't apply to everyone).
* Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Ace has an 800 MHz ARMv6 processor that currently can't be overclocked. That's a little better than an ARMv6 processor that can be overclocked to >700 MHz... but not much. I'm calling this a wash.
* The Ace has about the same (or is it less?) internal memory as the P500/P509, so I guess this is a wash.
* I don't know how battery life compares...?
I don't consider the Ace an upgrade. They're comparable phones... Phone Arena actually gave higher marks to both the Optimus One and Optimus T than they did to the Galaxy Ace, for whatever that is worth. User reviews are about the same at various sites like Reevoo (good for both phones). Personally, I wouldn't want to pay $50 to switch to a new phone that is almost exactly the same as the one that I have now. The biggest advantage of the Ace seems to be its 0.3" larger screen, and that's not worth $50 to me. ETA: It seems like the camera might be significantly better on the Ace, if that is important to you...

The Galaxy Ace has a 3.5" 320 x 480 display.

My friends have p500s and they envy my phone because of the slimness, 800mhz cpu and screen size.

Seriously? Your friends envy your phone because it is ~1.8 mm slimmer than their phones? Do your friends know that, unlike Galaxy Ace owners, they can overclock their phones? I would definitely prefer a 3.5" screen, but we're talking about two very similar phones here.
Well, i own 2 devices now, current one is X10 but my previous device was the P500
I do suggest to some of my friends which are newbies to android to use the Ace, but after months of usage, most of them report to me that, the Ace restarts a lot...
The main reason behind this is the small amount of RAM, IMO. When your RAM is running too low, the phone will restart itself, aka soft reboot to resolve the problem.
P500 has 512MB[428mb user accessible] while Ace only has 278, get the difference?
Ace does have a few advantage over the P500 though, the slightly more powerful CPU, better camera and flash[camera flash] too, plus you can take screenshot without root too[P500 has to do this via apps, w/o root]
If both were priced at a same price,i'll get Ace over P500, but $50 is just... too much?
BTW, why not considering upgrade to some new sony? xperia ray seems good to me! A QSD8255 under the hood, 8MP camera, everything is way awesome-er than P500 and Ace
You already have an Optimus One which is quite a decent small little phone. I would save your money and if you really wanted a new phone get a more higher end phone and skip the Ace. That's what I would do, but it's your decision. Are you happy with your Optimus and does it fulfill all your needs? If you are I would stay with the Optimus and save up for a more high end phone.
I wish I could get a Galaxy SII but my carrier doesn't have much coice and I don't think I could afford it! haha.
Only good android phones my carrier has: O1, ACE, Nexus S.
The rest are either Blackberry, garbage, or iPhone.

Let me pose a variation of the question.
If I could get a O1 or an ACE, both for free/same price.
Which one should I get?
Please keep in mind what I said about my phone usage.

Same price with Live with walkman too, and live with walkman has some serious music capability too... [i think so]
Dude ill prefer taking nexus . Its a nice phone and updates are there for it. Custom rom wise, there are a lot of devs. Ace can be laggy at times. I have a friend using. Nexus is google best phone yeah

The Ace is better, but have a ugly display. The P500 costs less and the price is correct for that phone. I succest the P500, or a phone above 300€
