[Q] Wow the Atrix has been a PAIN! [[HELP]] - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I now use my Moto Atrix as my music player like I did with my Captivate. The only problem is, is that my music player randomly stops in the middle of the song. I go back to the player to press play and the song starts over......
this is one of MANY problems that I have been having with the Atrix.
PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Not sure what that issue is but you might want to try another music program. I messed around with the included player for a short bit but I got winamp and I really like it so far. There's quite a few other good options out there.
Hope you're able to figure something out.

Do you know of anything like the player on the iPod touch? Or something that works as good as the Samsung Android music player?
Edit: THANK YOU!!! Winamp is working amazingly and the problem has been fixed.
Edit: Continues to have the same damn problem....... f**k the Atrix

Still having the same issue with winamp? That seems odd... what file types are you using?

Do me a favor and post your bug in this thread on their support forum:
https://supportforums.motorola.com/thread/45468?tstart=30

I've got the same problem. But one thing I am sure is that when you use task manager to kill background program, don't kill those you are not familiar with.I tried several times to find out what's impacting the music player, but finally,it turns out to be obscure.I mean when I erase everything from the kill list, music wont stop in sleep mode, but I cannot prescisely tell who are they.It seems that several programs together work on it.Most suspect those whoes string having 'media' in them.

Some people just react and blame instead of trying to find the solution.
I went through that once due to a task killer. I ignored the music app from the task killer, but eventually realized the task killer was not needed!

I now blame the Auto Kill ---- I don't have the Music app in the Auto Kill and I thought that the phone was acting dumb, so I guess the Auto Kill was being a little b*tch

Don't know if this is a fix for everyone but I was having the same problem. I removed the gallery app from the auto-kill list and it fixed the issue. I tested it several times by adding and removing the gallery app to and from the auto-kill list. Every time it was on the list, the music would cut out after sleep. Every time I removed it, everythnig functioned mormally.

ok i did my own tests today adding programs to auto-kill list and playing back audio in between. the playback issue only appears when the screen go dark . i focused first on apps that in my opinion had nothing to do with media and after all this time consuming process i found that adding certain programs creating the problem . here is the DO NOT list and hope this work for all of ya
1) gallery
2) purchased media*
3) music
* im sure this folder was created after sync with my itunes . i used motorola media link app ( free download from motorola site) which work like charm on my mac pro adding exactly that i checked. keep in mind that your case could be different depending on type of sync or adding media method so its up to you finding the correct folder. now if you sync via the mentioned moto app you maybe having other folders on list like podcasts or whatever you decided add to your phone storage . i cant confirm this because only folder i synced was purchased media . post your findings... peace!

why are you guys even bothering auto killing apps? thats a big no-no

+1 auto-kill = BAD JUJU
If your going to use a TaskManager, use it only to manually stop rogue processes or apps. Never let it run on its own.
I used OSMonitor to kill off apps as needed. There's tons out there, but only use one that doesn't run automatically.

Dude, seriously, are you 12 or something?
Grow up man!!

Agreed... I'm not sure why you feel the need to kill apps on a phone with a gig of RAM. The only thing it does is kills your battery when you have apps that continually try to restart, then the task killer kills them.
After running my phone without a reboot since Monday, and NO task killing, I still have around 250MB free, and have no problems running Dungeon Defenders, etc. No lag, no anything. Mind you, I run a live wallpaper, as well.

[Q] how to make phone usable quicker? stop media scanning etc on boot?

when i turn my phone on, i want to use it straight away. the sgs2 takes an age to become usable due to media scanning which is pointless unless it's just been connected to a PC, then there's all the apps loading in the background which makes the phone unusable until that's all finished.
when i turn it on, it's slow to respond to even the pin entering part. the unlock pattern screen doesn't register at all for 30 seconds sometimes and registers an error meaning you have to wait another 30 seconds to do it again.
short of forcably uninstalling every single app on the phone and not having an sd card in there, how the hell can i make it usable as soon as i unlock it? meaning no scanning, no app loading etc etc etc?
Do you expect to be able to use your pc as soon as you press the power button?
Just have patience...
I kind of understand your problem with the media scanner. It does seem to run unnecessarily a lot of the time. The app problem though is just part of android. You could download an app i think it is called autostarts and you can disable a lot of apps from starting up straight away.

booting, not long really. it's the delay in the phone being usable once booted that's the prob. best rom? everyone'll have a diff opinion. we do have CM but i've never got on with their roms. oxygen also was laggy so went back ti criskelo
Rescan media Root, this app can disable media scanning, but I think this phone has pretty fast boot.
it does, it's what happens once it's booted to the homescreen thats the problem.
will try that, ta.
as far as i've heard, the scan disabling only affects the stock player which i don't use.
Up to 30 seconds? ****ing hell. For me boot time takes no longer than 10 seconds from pressing the power button to getting onto my homescreen, from there I can do whatever I want, weather the media scanner is running or not. Just root your device and freeze the media scanner.
i have rooted. i'm guessing it's all the apps being loaded in the background more than anything else.
when i connect via usb, then disconnect - the scanning doesn't impact usability
Can't u disable media scanner?

Stock task killer too aggressive

My built in task killer is being super aggressive recently. When I first had the phone, pressing the "Clear RAM" closed around 5-10 applications and left me with ~350-400MB of used RAM. I installed system tuner pro (which is now uninstalled), but ever since I had installed it, my task killer is now closing 20+ applications, and my used RAM is getting down to 200-250MB. I can never get it down to "0 applications closed" anymore and the lowest I got was "3 applications closed" over and over again.
Normally, I wouldn't really care so much, but what I'm getting annoyed with is that doing that seems to disable NoLED and I suspect it's messing with SetCPU. SetCPU shows 702/192 on the widget, which is what I had it set to, but if I open SetCPU, I see 1836/192 at the top, but the scrollers are still 702/192. Anyone know what the heck is going on?

My problem is that the stock task manger kills my alarm clock & battery widget. Which I really need....
Ever since I have swtiched to Advanced Task Manger and I honestly love it over the stock one. I even set it to auto kill when I turn off the screen.

And yet still remain necessary for malfunctioning apps or those that stay running even when you back out of them and consume way too many resources, harming your battery life. C:Geo is my example. It doesn't always shut down properly and likes to drain my battery when I'm not using it unless I force quit it.
Another good example: Voxer likes to get "stuck" almost constantly. Only way to fix it is by force quitting and starting it up again.
While I agree that users shutting down apps constantly with a task manager to clear RAM does more harm than good, they still have their purpose and are a handy thing to have on any phone OS.

So the answer to OP is then to stop hitting the "Clear Ram" button.
Honestly, What is the point of a phone having this much ram, if you aren't going to let apps use it?
When you hit the home button, what android does is save the current state of that app and lays it to rest in the ram. When you go back to that app, it will pull it from the ram and bring it back from that state.
The app is not running in the background unless it's intended too.
So johnus is right. If an app gets stuck, or it is using your cpu and there is no real way to close it, that's what an app killer is really meant for.
Case closed now?

Well samsung goofed up with the black crush issue also, but that doesn't mean I should stop using youtube, netflix or viewing black photos on my phone. With that kind of logic, lets just tell every to just stop using their phones because bugs are always going to exist everywhere, but there's no reason to fix it, because no one will ever use an app that's not perfect...right?

[Q] a music player that promises NO delays

Hi there everyone,
So heres my problem, idk if it can be solved my the music app - but i expect so! If not it means much more complicated things....
I have been given an old (its almost as big as my desktop PC!!!) mini disc player, for which to play sound effects in a local Panto. The reason apparently for this is that,
1)you can label tracks
2)you can pause then navigate to track
3) The most important one: When you press play IT MUST START PLAYING IN LESS THAN A SECOND! they actually claim the mini disc player does it in millseconds - ive not tested that yet but not 100% convinced.
I've been told that they have tried using a laptop before, and CD's and a tape deck, all of which SOMETIMES have a delay. They said something along the lines of, "you never know if the computer is thinking about updating or whatever, so its slow to react." I can see how thats true.
So i have a GS3, I use the samsung stock music player, but ive noticed with the screen off, from time to time I get a "jerk" in the music, I've also seen it take a second to begin playing. I know of course that like a laptop, my phone maybe doing other things which slow it down. I've used Winamp (free version) and loved it on my old HTC Desire but even then I remember it sometimes had a delay. I have a 16gb (samsung) class 6 SDcard, and ive tested it, I know the sdcard isnt the problem. o n its fat32...
anyway before I ramble on too much, I want to use my phone for the job, here's my question:
Which apps (if any) can PROMISE the fast response EVERYTIME?
or
Can you FORCE a music app to stay in foreground memory or whatever it needed to get the result?
or
will changing my sounds file format help? if so what do you suggest? *.Wav maybe?
or
Can I disable other background schedules? (i dont mean like using aeroplane mode or disabling wifi or sync n all that - I can do that I mean a app running in the background)
ANY advice or suggestions or things to try would be greatly appreciated (and thanked), I've got a few weeks before the first rehearsal, and I'd LOVE to show them how its done in the modern world.
There's a setting in poweramp that let's you keep the app in memory, so that it's not unloaded from the ram when the phone's idle. That sounds like what you're looking for.

I've got it down to 3/8 of a second by freezing lots of apps, disabling sync n all wireless connections (aeroplane mode etc ) and using poweramp with persistent service enabled. I'm happy with that, but if you can this of anything else to try please do not hesitate to reply!

[APP] GMusicFS

***NOTE: I take absolutely no credit for developing this app or supporting it. Flash at your own risk.
That being taken care of, most of you on this board know how much I love music and when I saw this posted on xda's news, I had to grab it and share it ASAP. Summed up, we have a storage issue without and external sdcard. This app allows all your music stored on Google Music to be mounted on a virtual hard drive on your sdcard. This allows a number of popular players to play all your music stored on the cloud as if its on your internal memory. I now have my N7 library full of over 5000 songs with Beats, DSPManager v2, and N7's EQ working in perfect harmony!!!
Just use the help tab within the app to get the settings right for whatever player you're going to be using. I'd donate to this guy right now if I could.

I'm not sure if it will work with stock music app. If there's a setting in there to tell it where to look for music and to force a refresh of the library, it might. I am sure that it does stream from Google Play, though. It just sets up a database the local player can read on a virtual hard drive. The music still comes from the cloud (Google Play), so you'll use up your 2gigs quickly streaming.
This made me think of the potential of this app. Once he gets the bugs squashed, I bet he can make it so you create say a "Music" folder on your Dropbox, Box, GDrive account and upload your music in there. He can make it read those files and create a database as well. This app has HUGE potential.

bubbleguuum just posted!
Speaking of HTC devices, do not use GMusicFS with HTC device until I have found a fix for the slow scan issue.
This issue can make your Google Music daily quota go over limit, which will makes streaming impossible from any client until the quota is resetted (in less than 24h since it is a daily quota).
I have added this warning in the first post of this topic.

Yes, I am the unlucky one that brought that to his attention. My device hit its limit in less than 2 hours. so i only have pandora for any kind of streaming music for now.
after providing logs and testing later revisions of his app, he now has what he needs and is working on a way to reliably identify any device, specific to htc to where his new rule can be implemented

yea i only have 1318 songs in my google music library and the first run through, it took 2hours to scan and got stuck on 80% ... then again on 5% then again on 67% ... all that scanning and requesting/accessing data from the google server has limited me out for the day.

After the sync completed on mine, I noticed it was scanning, and stuck at 0% for a long time. It seemed strange, but thought I would let it finish. I went to look at the OT and saw he had posted that. I instantly stopped the scan, and will wait for the next revision.

I have no idea what the scan is for and it was taking forever, so I reboot at like 2%. It hasn't tried to sync since (or I just haven't checked recently if it has) and I haven't had an issue.

while mine scanned, it added the files to the music player. id check as it was at 5% and have x number of tracks ...check again when it was at 50% and have 10 times as many tracks.
just letting yall know. for us with HTC devices, he has fixed the issues of the slow scanning. we did some more testing and finally got me working with a test build. i think he is going to be updating the OP with this soon
scanned all 1300+ songs in 2 minutes 14 seconds (where it took over 2 hours yesterday) this was 'htc device specific' i did see others who had slow scanning issues as well.
Thanks for the update. I'm really looking forward to using this app.

Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda premium
0.9.3 beta is up, which addresses the HTC issue, thanks to JWhetstone02's help
I did get a full scan in this time (thanks J.) However, when I initiated a new music scan in N7 player, it FC'd. I'll mess with it later.
After the force crash I rebooted and music library was completely empty. I forced a scan for music within N7 and everything came back. All is good now.

[Q] Pandora song info refresh

I'm having an odd issue with the Android app, I'm using JB 4.2 leaked from Samsung. When I'm using it with my car stereo the app doesn't seem to refresh the song information. That means my car stereo display remains stuck displaying the information of the first song played. If I unlock at phone and look at the app the information is the same the display, and lock screen, are showing. Sometimes unlocking the phone and opening the app makes it refresh and display the current song info.
It's very annoying. I tried Pandora support but they gave me the usual uninstall and reinstall answer, adding they don't support custom and rooted roms, of course...
I know it's a long shot but... you never know. Any idea? Could be the rom? I froze Play Music because it was always starting on its on, does that break anything?
Best way to find out is first unfreeze play music and test and second is to drop back down to 4.1.2 and test. If first doesn't work but second does then its to do with 4.2.2 leak.

I'm stupid, of course I can unfreeze it and find out. Sorry.
As for going back to 4.1.2, that's gonna be time consuming and sadly I don't have much free time. Heh. I was hopping someone who has it running on its phone could confirm of deny having the same issue. That's why I was saying "long shot".
What happened when you unfrozen it? Did it work.? Sorry I can't help you.

Provided that Google Music works flawlessly with the car stereo, nope it didn't change anything, sadly.
I'll keep you posted if there are developments.
[Update 08/12/2013]
I gave up. Ditched Pandora for Google Play Unlimited. I know, Pandora is awesome, but for me this crap is important. I'm sick in the head.
Same issue with Samsung G4
Any update on this? I am having the same issue with brandnew out of the box Samsung G4. No mods or anything.
I also notice that on reconnecting to the car (after being turned off), the volume is very low but gets restored to the correct level when the track changes to the next one.
