WIRELESS TETHER: a great tool (it works with 2.1 & root), BUT... - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello!
Today I am starting to experiment Wireless Tether, a free Android application that you can easily found on Market and that makes it possible to do tethering with your Android device for other devices (ex. PC, other smartphones, iPad,...).
I installed it on my Xperia X10 with stock 2.1 Eclair and ROOT. Because of the software requires root access, I had no problem in installation. However, when I try to enable the tether, a problem appears: my kernel is not able to support a feature. The log says: Disabling NAT rules... FAILED!
Has anyone experienced the same problem with X10? Other devices are able to connect to my X10 wireless network BUT not able to surf the web through my device! :/
Thanks in advance!

our kernel does not support this. wait until bootloader is cracked or use barnacle tether

Ok, thank you very much!

+ 1 iv been using barnacle tether and it works perfectly well

hello folks,
does wifi thether drains your battery fast?
i'm using barnacle at the moment, and i notice my battery is draining fast.
just wondering is this normal or is it just me.
thanks

+1 barnacle
Works perfectly on x10
Yes wifi drains battery

Tethering on X10

Ive looked around, can you natively tether an X10 and get internet access or do you need to install software like easytether?
Ps I cant get easythether to work either. (PS just got that working ;-) )
Thanks

No native app I know of that comes with the X10 for tethering. Try PdaNet, works like a charm for me. =)

I second this. Great app. Well worth the money.
I'm trying to tether with my ipad using X10 but PDAnet shows in order to use buletooth tether I need to be on andriod 2.0 or above! any way I can do it on 1.6?
Thank you.
Tethering
Thans for the PDAnet mention, isntalled that, its working nicely.
Was jsut used to HTC phones connecting automatically with internet sharing.
Not sure about the bluetooth tethering, as it states, needs 2.0
Wont be long till Paul has rooted it, the we can get vanilla 2.1 on and will work ok.
Bloke
yeah the windows mobile htc's have automatic tethering ??
anyways
pdanet, you have to install their software on the pc that you want to tether too right ?
Barnacle works like a charm!
just root the phone, and use barnacle, PDA something is harder
Easy tether works great and easy to use

Root the phone, use barnacle and tether over wifi. I just could not get BT to work with PDANet
If we start barnacle, can we connect other phone? Or just PC only?

O. You mean: run barnacle use x10. And then just search for wifi spot and connect. Just like that? And what ever type as long have wifi connection can connect to our x10 via barnacle? If yes... I can not connect my x8 to my x10 with wifi. Anything wrong?
Gunawan-GN Multimedia-X10i
I tried install barnacles, but my HTC Magic, Blackberry 8250 and Archos 101 cannot detect the wifi that's tether from my X10i....
should i change any setting?
anyone can help?
Are you searching for an infrastructure wifi connection or an adhoc? tethering is used with adhoc, its a direct connection between two devices. Refine your search to that and maybe you'll have better luck
-X10(a)i 2.1, JIT ~ via XDA App
I use barnacle at lans to share a connection with a few ppl. we all join and play starcraft2 with no problems what so ever.
Barnacle FTW!
Thanks heaps for the barnacle suggestion, works amazing
i just used barnacle wifi.. n its v gud n works just best thanks all
Question
barnacle is great, but does it also work that way:
Me (X10) connected to a (foreign) wifi-network ---> friend (iphone etc, doesn't matter) connects via my x10, and is also using the foreign network??
will soon spend some days in London with my school calss and wifi will cost money, so we wanted to buy access for 1 phone (wifi) and the rest will connect via this phone =)
Hi Guys,

i have ported my xperia x8 with gingerdx v010 and every thing works fine, but unable to do usb tethering. Can any one help me?
My two top tethering apps have to be:
PdaNet 3.02
PdaNet can sometimes be a bit picky and will sometimes disconnect itself for no apparent reason, but its pretty good considering it's free
But the app i have found to be the most reliable is:
Klink (Red Edition)
It is £3.09, but it is alot faster than PdaNet, more reliable, it so far hasn't randomly disconnected and is very stable
Hope i helped
Beans
For Wireless i am using Wireless Tether 2.0.7 using Andyx NetFilter module.
and for Usb i am using Easy Tethering.

[Q] X10 Mini as WiFi Hotspot

Hi,
Can anyone give me some idea how can I turn my X10 mini into a wifi hotspot? I found many people are asking similar question but I did not notice any good answer. So this is possible or not?
Use Barnacle: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=740698
search for it in the market
you could found that information in the wiki or with some searching in this post in the x10 mini/pro General Forum
I use Barnacle Wifi Tether as Cyberwuulf already said.
It supports WEP encryption on my x10 mini pro, and works perfectly every time, super fast - And ive sent in a few good ideas to the dev which he promised to implement in the future.
It works with my X10 Mini with PC connection, but fails to get connected by Xperia X8, and I'm still working out with other phones tomorrow... Please note that my X10 Mini is running 2.1, rooted.

And I got it works with my X8 too, before I read the following Ad-hoc mode only:
Can you make Barnacle use infrastructure mode instead of ad-hoc?
If one could make an Android phone look like a real access point (rather than an ad-hoc network), then it would improve compatibility and allow better security. Unfortunately, to make a wifi client behave like an access point requires fundamental changes in the device driver. The hardware vendors of the wireless interfaces present in most Android devices did not include such capability.
What one can do, however, is use Connectify to make their laptop running Windows 7 appear as a real access point. In combination with Barnacle it should be possible to connect many restricted devices (PS3, DSi, etc.) to the Internet.

X10 mini pro Tethering help

hi all,
Got a rooted x10 mini pro running 2.1 and tomorrow getting hold of an Archos 70 tablet. Now the archos doesnt have 3g so i was wondering whether i can wirelessly tether the phone to the tablet?
I have EasyTether pro on the phone but that only works through USB.
Anyone any ideas?
download "barnacle wifi tethering" from the android market.
thats the only way for wireless tethering, i'm knowing. its also only with wep and not wpa2, but in the options you can set a notification, that informs you for every device that connects to your wifi, so you have still an overview who uses your 3g connection.
Thanks for that but it didnt work.
Apparently i need to do it via bluetooth or USB so trying to find a tether program that works through bluetooth.
I would love to tethering my X10 Mini with BT or Wifi/Wlan, but...
The only way that works for me is by USB-wire.
Paid for the EasyTether, installed on the X10 Mini (works with the Pro, too) Needed to set USB connection to Debugging Mode too. "Settings - Programs - Development - ticking the USB-debugging Mode"
Sorry My X10 Mini is all in Swedish and the english menu names are my guesswork
On each Computer that you want to Tether with the X10 Mini/Pro, Needs a program(download and run the install file). Giving you an EasyTether icon on the activity bar.
Thougt you can only tether one comp at the time.I guess that thru the Tethered computer, other comps can access the Internet, in a home network.
Have so far tested a Netbook running Win7starter, a Win7Home Pro desktop and a WinXP sp3 Nettop as well as a Ubuntu 10.10 Netbook (Yes, there is a Ubuntu (Debian?) EasyTether program)
Since you're rooted, why not load a custom Froyo? I'm interested in the mini pro for this very reason and am curious if people have been successful in using this device as a handy tether unit that can do some keyboarded terminal work in process.

[Q] Wifi tether on my X10 infrastructure mode?

First off, my laptop works fine with my phone's ad-hoc tether, but i want to use internet on my psp and vita later down the road as well when i need it, but i can't find any way to tether my X10 other than in ad-hoc mode, which is not supported by most consoles/handhelds.
i found a few guides but it wouldn't work. Would either not broadcast anything or do ad-hoc mode with various apps.
Any way to tether X10 in infrastructure mode instead of ad-hoc?
Ok, so i tried everything and only phone's native tether (under settings, stock ROM latest updates) gives infrastructure, or at least what seems like it, problem arises when i want to access internet and get DNS server error... there are pretty much no settings to mess with there so i am at a loss really. USB tether gives no internet to my laptop either over the native tether under settings.
wireless tether for root users does however work perfectly, but only in ad-hoc mode. The beta version people use on different phones (change device profile select one of the master methods and go) to get infrastructure instead of ad-hoc doesn't work at all, i haven't tried all profiles but on few i tried even though app says tether is on no devices see it, SSID broadcast set to ON.
So any ideas? Could it be provider nonsense? i bought it second hand and it seems to have been unlocked from Orange, but ROM doesn't seem to have all the bloatware from Orange(just news and traffic pretty much) without that I wouldn't even have noticed that it is from Orange.
Would flashing a different ROM help? could it be Orange's ROM is blocking it? Otherwise i might need a new phone
Android isn't able to detect ad-hoc network. There is a program called "connectify" to make discoverable version of ad-hoc for android devices

I want to tether my ps vita and my laptop to my SE xperia X10. i use tether app on my phone to share phone's internet with my console and laptop when i am not home.
also on my laptop i got intel's my wifi app that allows me to rebeam/share internet which is sufficient for my need on my laptop, though thanks for the tip
problem is making my phone tether in infrastructure and not ad-hoc mode. i gone in as much depth as i can about it in the last post, though if you need any more info i'd be glad to provide it if it would help to find a solution...
It is just a stock Xperia X10 with all official updates and rooted... 2.3.3android 2,1,71baseband.

[ROM] Wolfs TW Gingerbread | Feel the difference | V7b6 [stable] | 03/12/2011
^ This rom supports infrastructure mode tethering.
I am in the same boat as you friend but I want a different custom rom. I have upgraded my touchpad to ICS which has no support for ad-hoc networks.
I was using the stock rom above for awhile which supported infrastructure mode which was working perfectly but in my world I want to stick with Miui on my x10.
I updated the wifi teather app on the miui rom to the newest one and was playing with the different setting for different devices. I was able to get the tether app to start in master mode with some of the settings for other devices but I was never able to get the touchpad to fully connect to one of these networks. I had it connect briefly when I put a static ip matching the settings on the wifi tether app but it would not make any internet connection.
If we have the ability in a stock rom, why can't it be ported?
