I'm not planning on doing any more mods to this, but if you wish to customize this ROM to your liking then use something like my HTC Android Kitchen. To set up, please read the FAQ posted in the kitchen thread.

sick thanks!
eww just noticed first post XD
but in other words
where did you get this!
Does this mean the OTA is working fine now?

I got to try this! thanks!

im wondering.. is hardware aceleration enabled? if so does this mean FPS will now be more than 14-25 especially with LWP's on will it no longer lag my helix launcher?

Nope I don't believe this is HW accelerated. I think that comes with > GB builds. For a taste of HW acceleration you might want to try the HC port, it's impressively smooth for a build not optimized for our hardware or screen size.

AFAIK only Googles semi-proprietary WebM support is hardware accelerated, and as virtually nothing uses it yet, it's not very useful.
I'm not even sure that this IS the case, I'm unable to find ANY official (i.e not blogger guesses/speculation) word that there's any form of hardware acceleration on the N1 via 2.3.3.
Is there an official 2.2.x --> 2.3.x changelog anywhere?

a) Don't quote a whole screenful of post for a 1-line request
b) It's unmodified stock which means NOT rooted.
Either install it and re-root it yourself, wait for the changes to be merged with CM7, or wait for a pre-rooted build which will probably be available in a matter of minutes.
To self-root, flash Superuser from this thread from recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=682828

thanks for u, and rooted rom with some other unofficial mod would be better.

Yep, although the drivers seem to be compatible for HW acceleration, GB itself doesn't seem to use this feature. The I build (Ice cream sandwich or whatever it will be called) will most likely have HW acceleration built in. Although far from extensive you can see that only HC has the feature currenty:

[Q] CWM Loses Convenience

I'm not really sure I understand and maybe someone can help me to, but the appeal of CWM to me was the ability to flash a ROM without needing a PC. However, most of the ROM's in the dev section say that a kernel flash is required and the utility requires a PC. The appeal of being able to flash a new ROM at any time is lost since I need to wait until I'm at home with my PC. If a kernel flash at the PC is required for most ROM's then why CWM at that point?
I'm realizing as I write this that the answer is likely that it's easier for a noob than adb. I still ask the question in the event there is something else I'm missing.
Also, before I get 30 hypersensitive replies about not appreciating the devs work and I should dev something myself if I don't like it please know that this is not intended to criticize the work of the devs. I'd just like to know if there is something I'm missing or maybe that I'm misunderstanding that a kernel flash is required when I read the releases.

Yes! You missed this thread
All the latest roms are using Faux kernel anyways, Flash once, and then you can use CWM to flash any multiple roms you want
The ONLY time you NEED to flash a seperate kernel is when going to a totally different build. Examples:
Sense 3.0 to Sense 3.5
Sense 3.5 to Sense 3.0
ICS to Sense 3.0
ICS to Sense 3.5
Sense 3.0 to ICS
ICS to Sense 3.5
...etc
Other than that the kernel that you use is still pretty much stock.

This is true, but each successive release says that a kernel update is needed. I am assuming that this includes not only those freshly flashing the ROM, but also those flashing from a ROM's previous version. Are they incompatible from version to version? Basically, if I'm bored while out and wanted to flash a ROM then flash the kernel later are there risks?

Thanks Binary. That makes sense. No pun intended. So then the boot.img a dev includes with the packaged ROM is more or less a suggested kernel to best optimize their ROM and not that there are features of a ROM that will not work?

That depends on the kernel that the developer includes.
If it's a faux edition then there are a few tweaks however it's still stock.
All features should be accessable in the rom as long as you are using an unsecured kernel.

[Kernel] ICS 4.0.3 Stock Kernel

Don't flash this as you already have one from ur ICS ROM! I just did not see any Stock Kernel that is the reason why i made a thread!
Haven't seen a stock ICS 4.0.3 kernel in development section so i m just dropping stock kernel in case some one needs it.
It meant we'll have mod kernel soon? Better battery faster ... everything.
Sent from my AT&T Galaxy Note™ - please forgive any typos
ummm... what?! Is this i717 specific, or just the AOSP 4.0.3 kernel? How did we get this for the i717 without source? Where is it from? So many questions!!!11 lol
If this is for real, someone please throw a bucket of ice water (and/or trout) on Da_G...
I have tried to use this tool http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20806471&postcount=1 to inject init.d support into the stock kernel but cannot tell if it worked. It worked on the stock ICS kernel for the Asus Transformer according to this post. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23005237&postcount=104
Anyone else more familiar with init.d care to try it? It did give me an init.d folder, and the command prompt on PC seemed like it was successful but I can't tell from the file it placed in init.d after first boot if it was successful or not. I tried putting a supercharger script in the init.d folder but it doesn't seem to be working.
edit: Also at the risk of sounding dumb I don't know what set permission as 755 is. I tried to set the permissions of the folder to match the other folders in the directory.
I don't understand why are guys so happy about this ?
This kernel (boot.img) is already in ICS ROMs,
you can just unzip one of those ROMs or the leak and there you have it !
They need kernel SOURCE to do overclock etc.

You do know this is just the kernel right? If you flash only this after a full wipe, you're not going to have a booting Android phone.
You sure? I would think it would be more like flashing it to what is already in it, unless, this is not for the i717.

I think he means if you flash it after a "full" wipe, meaning clearing the system. If you just do a data and cache wipe it should be fine, if of course you are running an ICS ROM.

If this isn't source, then I don't understand what this is for. Every i717 ICS leak currently available has this kernel already included. Having it on your SD card just in case isn't really going to do anyone any good, since everyone running any of the currently available ICS ROMs is already running this very kernel. If this is acceptable, then I won't be surprised to see others parting out the leak and posting pieces of it in the dev section, when it really belongs in General since it isn't source. Please don't flame me, just trying to make a point.

It's pretty useful for noobs who flashed DaG's kernel mistaking it for an ICS kernel.
OP is pretty misleading. There is no reason to flash this at the moment.

Actually, I dont understand what the big deal is...
There are stock roms in the development thread aren't there?
Stock Odin recovery image:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1506330
Stock boot & recovery:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1504999
Strange that no one *****ed about these being in Android Development... I dont see what the difference is.
All this is is the stock kernel from the ICS leak taken out and made available for flashing in case you want to flash the stock kernel FROM THE ICS LEAK (so, if you are still on stock GB, this wont be helpful, this is ONLY useful if you are running the stock, unmodified ICS leak and have changed the kernel and want to revert back to the stock ICS kernel from the leaked ICS rom).
The OP is pretty self explanatory, in fact, the title of the thread is pretty self explanatory. I mean, ICS 4.0.3 STOCK KERNEL sounds pretty clear to me.
My only beef is not with the thread or its location but the lack of organization on XDA. There should literally be a category for ROMS, another for mods & themes & apps, and another for stock images. Q&A should be removed and combined with General. Given the limitation of the current choices, this doesnt fit under General, Q&A, Themes and Apps, or Accessories. The next best fit is Android Development. This is of course all my opinion.
Thread moved
Stock kernels belong in General.

I really didn't want to jump back into this, and it seriously doesn't bother me at all that this was posted... that said, there are NO modified ICS kernels on our Notes right now (we're all on the same kernel at the moment), so this won't become useful until someone modifies one (as appdroid apparently intends to do to add init.d) -- and even then, it will need to be replaced once the official ICS build/source gets released.
Either way, like I said, this thread doesn't bother me at all... appdroid's dev efforts on the Note are much appreciated!

[Q] Custom Rom for ICS Leak?

Any suggestions if there is a possibility to run one of the Custom Roms, built for ICS Leak, on the GSM ICS Leak? Just something like using the GSM-Patch with the GB-based custom roms. Is there any possibility to get this working?
I want to try it with Black Widow ICS (leak). It can be installed via ICS Bootstrap.
Edit: Maybe I can build a GSM-Patch for this roms.
I want to copy these files from system/lib:
li-mot-lte-ril.so
libmoto_nwif_ril.so
libmoto_qmi_ril.so
libmoto_ril.so
libpppd_plugin-ril.so
libreference-ril.so
moto-ril-multimode.so
and these file from system/etc:
apns-conf
All files taken from GSM device of course!
Then modifie the build.prop to the GSM settings, pack everything to an update.zip for using with CWM.
What do you think?
I hope anyone could give an advice

But i did that on eclipse when i was on GB and i directly replaced those file into the eclipse.zip, not a patch and it worked fine.
but if you look at the blackwidow rom

There was a Q that I wanted to do:
What needs to happen in order to create custom ROMs based on our leak? (GSM) In order to start "cocking" xD
Reading your answers, I understand that when fastboot files are released development on this device would start..
this is correct?
Thank for your time..

Well, it can start without fastboot file and make custom rom bases on current leak, but if the dev do something wrong and run into a bootloop after flashing his custom rom, it will be really difficult to back to stock without fastboot file.
I read that it's possible but it's a little complicated and not that much want to take that risk
Ok guys, I tried the whole night. I booted up Black Widow ICS Leak successfully on my GSM device. I've built a GSM Patch, but there are still two issues. Network signal and WLAN is working great and stable. But I am not able to safe an APN and when I trie to enter the rom controls it closes. But no restarts sa far.. Nedd to play with the libs again. The most ones aren't needed. Now I am running the rom without these libs, but a few of them are responsible for saving the APN and the function to the rom controls. Maybe we also need the Verizon kernel to run it correctly...?
Edit: This is bull****, sorry, the verizon kernel can be flashed in case of wiped CID partition, and anyone who hasn't a backed up p18 can't do this without booting up with BP Tools until the end of his days... Anyone an idea?

[Q] Getting a custom rom?

So I've never flashed this device before, and I got it today but I'd like a custom ROM flashed to it.
Could someone point me to the following:
-A working ODIN link for this device
-A custom ROM (GB) that has all working features (camera, etc) and is built for the INTL 5.0 version (I've been looking at this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1465144)
-A guide for getting CWM recovery.
Cheers.

I personally have used the Eryigit rom you linked and it works fine.
Have fun.
I would stay away from Cyanogen and its variations right now if you want everything to work. CM7 has issues with wifi (and other stuff) and CM9 has no HW Acceleration -kernel issues.
Pretty much any rom based on stock is a safe bet.

Check in the custom kernel section and download the kernel according to your device.
Look in the thread cvcduty posted in the custom kernel section. The kernels have CWM packaged with them. You'll need Odin to flash them. If you search the forums you'll probably find a link for Odin... or google it
Make sure you use the rigth kernel for your specific device. The 5" and 4" are different and there are two versions of the 5". Not sure if there is more than one version of the 4" or not.

Edit: Could be because I flashed a GB kernel while still on froyo, I best revert to stock kernel and do a KIES update first
Edit2: Tried to go stock but still a boot loop -_-
This has gone, extremely well...

I just downloaded Odin 1.3 and flashed Entrophy's DD as we discussed. No issues on my device - as i anticipated because this is how I did mine initially. Which model do you have? Another question, did you try to boot into CWM after you flashed the kernel (VolUp + Power). If you can get into CWM then your good to flash whatever ROM you want, even if the Stock ROM is boot-looping.

On another note, I'm actually trying to continue ambrice's development on CM7 but can't get my build to boot.

Hi all,
This is my first android device. Its currently a stock model with gingerbread 2.3.5. I've been doing some reading and see that there are some newer versions of the OS that can be installed on this device. Some work, some don't. What is the most recent verson of the OS that works 100% (if any) and some detailed instructions on how to install? And also how to revert back to the original OS (I don't want to brick the device).
Cheers!

What is the most recent verson of the OS that works 100% (if any) and some detailed instructions on how to install? And also how to revert back to the original OS (I don't want to brick the device).
Cheers!

The most recent *stock* rom is XXKPL for int'l. You can still use it on a USA, but you will need to flash Entropy512's kernel afterwards so your buttons work. To install xxkpl, there is a link near the end of the xxkph thread (or Google it). You will need the 'tar' release (the oldest) of Entropy's kernel. Download a program called Odin, put your device in download mode (reboot while holding volume down), and flash XXKPL by clicking on 'PDA' and browsing to the appropriate tar file. Your device will reboot. You still want it in download mode, so before it reboots, hold volume down again. This time, click on PDA and select the kernel's tar file. Let it flash, reboot, and profit.
(Follow Entropy's instructions on how to update to his latest kernel)

That's basically correct. Only one ics rom has Bluetooth working, and none have the camera. However any gingerbread rom should be fine, not just stock - some of them are themed to look like ics though.

So what's the difference between rooting, ROM, Kernel, and OS? Is it just 3 different acronyms for the same thing? Or are they different layers of software one on top of the next?
thanks!

Rooting is gaining access and permissions to every file in the system. (The system being Android / Linux)
Kernel is the layer inbetween the hardware and software, it is basically the traffic light saying "OK you go, OK now you, you run this for this long and then stop " ect.
ROM is the version of the OS, Android it the OS in this case. The ROM is the version or a customized varient of Android.
Hope this helps.
