[Q] optimized Kernels - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, Everbody
First of all excuse me for my bad English. I was a Galaxy s user until my phone was stolen. I am thinking of buying a Atrix, but before i do this i would love to know some things.
On my galaxy s it was very easy to make modification by flash en that kind of stuff. I want to know if this will be available for the artix to ? Manly i want to know if KERNEL modification is possible for faster, compatible, stable, and good battery life. On my galaxys these kernel modification really made a lot of differences. Other points are :
Improving the display or video and sound quality by modification of kernels.
Universal lagfixes Like changing the file system or something like this.
Brightness tweaks
Adjusted kernel HZ value to increase smoothness.

On atrix, the bootloader hasnt been hacked into yet but it is in progress so no kernels as of now. The problems suchs as lag fix and HZ values I feel are not neccesary on this device but I am sure we will see custom kernels soon enough

Thank you very much. I dont remember anything about bootloader with the galaxy s. Must be the downlaod mode in wich you can flash kernels in to the phone ?

Motorola has locked the bootloader on this device(and many others) so right now custom kernels are not possible and nobody knows when...if ever.

If you want kernels I would not hold out on the Atrix, it has an encrypted bootloader. This will be very hard to hack, but if anyone could do it it's the devs on XDA. If you want something on ATT that will give you lots of development options go for the inspire or buy another captivate. I bought the inspire and i like it alot. But you don't get the dual core and some other features that the atrix has. I guess you gotta just know what you want, either development or better specs. For me I will always go for the development.

I love development , but i also like the atrix. I get the feeling that motorola is not so development friendly. I'll wait a little longer maybe somebody can change this development problem.

question on roms and which is best?

hey just got the htc touch pro for sprint. I had a tmobile g1 so I am familiar with roms and radios etc... but only with android.
So i was wondering which are some of the better roms for this phone? Their are atleast 10 times more then whats on android so kinda overwhelming.
I really dont want a rom to change ALOT, mainly just performance and tweaks to enhance the phone because I already love the UI look and stuff.
I also heard you can put the new touch flo as the UI on the touch pro?
thanks.
Make sure if you are looking for a ROM it is specifically for the sprint/nextel phones and not the GSM models
The best ROM is subjective. What I like may not be what you like .
Try a few from the first pages of this forum, have a look at what they offer and see what you like the look of.

so based on updated gingerbread info, might we see it on hero?

http://www.unwiredview.com/2010/07/...details-post-some-corrections-clarifications/
interesting post, an update to
http://www.unwiredview.com/2010/06/...esolution-1ghz-minimum-specs-mid-oct-release/
which turned out to misquote things a bit.
So now the info says that 1gHz 512mb phones aren't the minimum requirement, they're the recommended phone for gingerbread.
it could be interesting therefore to try and build it for the hero when it comes out, although I can imagine things like the camera becoming a completely non-functional bit under that OS possibly.
however I'm not a rom developer, I don't know if they'll allow for it to run on the arm6 basic instruction set even.
Nor do I know anything specifically about coding at that low a level on the hero, other than common sense, so please understand I'm just asking if it seems like this might become less of an impossibility now with the new information.
By the way, this is actually old info I see now, so if this has been discussed already I'm sorry. I searched but found nothing about the update.
the thing is, noone really knows what gingerbread entails right?
UI refresh should be fine (plz change the Vanilla notifications bar! )
but your link does mention a "maximum multimedia experience"... my Hero cant even handle a 700mb avi in Rock Player too well.
Im not hoping for too much, after all the mobile market has been moving really fast.
I didn't read any of your links but afaik Gingerbread requires a processor of 1Ghz and the Hero is 528Mhz or something along those lines. So unless the requirements of that change I doubt we might see it, also we won't have kernel sources from HTC so we will need a kernel dev to help out with the new kernel to get things to work on gingerbread. This looks doubtful since devs are having a hard time (I assume since I am not a dev) with getting a .32 kernel
I doubt it , sorry to be negative but also their Is aparently a min screen size aawell which will be 3.5" and hero is 3.2" I'm hoping to get a new phone with gingerbread installed already the specs should be awesome because manafactures I'm sure wnt just settle for recomended settings and recomended settings is the top spec at the moment
I will bet my desire that gingerbread will be on the hero, within a few months of release with guys like nprussell and Pulser and ninpo. Screen size isn't a biggie.....
But being screen size it will be themers that need to downsize the pictures and nprussel and co. ( not co just other devs lol ) that need to change the code etc so can they all work together

[Q] What kind of ROM would you prefer for running on your SGS3?

Will it be MIUI, Cyanogenmod or something else? Share your desires and maybe devs will listen
Definately MIUI.
Using it on my EVO 3D atm, and I loooooove it!
Definitely Cognition Rom
Will be happy to see custom ROMs, but as long as they incorporate the awesome samsung features
I am only looking to put ROMs on this phone that are proven stable - and keep the features of the SGSIII intact. I don't want a phone that needs this workaround to get a feature to work.
I hope BootManager PRO works for this phone because I do like to keep several ROMs at hand at once. I really love the ICS blues and I have seen some amazing things evolve from a stock AOSP 4.0.X ROM over at the GNex forums. So we just need to wait and be amazed with the features that will be introduced to the world of Android via this phone's development section
Kernels on the other hand - this is where I am mostly concerned. We know pretty much NOTHING about the way a quad core kernel should be dealt with... These will be the main subject of my attention as we get into early development stages.
We shall see what some of our amazing developers who have proven they make kernels their bi***es can do with a new kernel. I am also interested in the kernel that Samsung has developed for it and how exactly this works in our favor here at XDA.
The main point is while most ROMs can be considered close... Kernels will be quite different and will be everyone's main focus - making our quad core beasts run with optimal battery life!
Checkrom

I'd like to see a CM9 hybrid\tablet mode rom with per-app dpi capabilities that comes with a free high class escort.
I will use any "rooted" rom that is stable enough .... so far we don´t know is it possible to change bootloader.
Cyanogenmod of course
Probably..... stock rom, bloatware removed (will keep all the good stuff), custom kernel and custom themes

CheckRom 100% the most popular and best ever ROM for the SGSII no other ROM comes close, i still use it and have used nothing else for a long time, SGSII ICS ROM's still nowhere near as good as CheckRom although i hear CheckRom ICS will be landing shortly for the SGSII although ill be selling my phone and getting the Galaxy S3
Slim ICS, as don't see much need for all the extra stuff apart from eye tracking to keep the screen on, S-Voice functionality goes in one ear and out the other, NFC not for me, Social tagging can leave me alone, shame the screen is sub standard to the SGS2.
Still loving my SGS 1 but am due an upgrade so may as well get this, hopefully the GPS is not as ****e as the SGS is. ended up buying an iPhone 3GS just to use with TomTom.
Now if you could give me TomTom on the SGS3 then you'd be talking.
Definitely checkrom with a new kitchen. And if we can get a siyah kernel then its over!!!!!!!!
cm9
miui
slim

first off
this is not the questions section but i will be kind and anwser it before a mod removes it
hardware is good rocking a 1.5 dual core wich is faster then stock sgs2 (wich i also own)
sony's UI is not bad still has some left overs from official ics look but overall it has a good appeal
no phone does not lag even when i have serious multitasking going on never had issues not even on ICS
root does not mean the phone is faster
hope this anwsers your questions
feel free to pm me
COME AT ME MODS
I dunno. I like the XS way more than the SGS2, mostly for design and camera reasons. Sony's UI is not horrible like TouchWiz, though I still prefer AOSP since it looks lighter. There's a bit of a problem with custom ROMs now, but we're quite close to getting a temporary hack while Bin4ry works out a better solution.

[Q]S2 kernels and rom's to S2 Plus

Hello. I have S2 Plus and i wonder can i flash kernels and roms from S2 to S2 Plus? Becouse i feel the phone laggy and slow.
Not unless you want to break your phone, no. Only flash firmware specifically for your device unless you want a very unhappy ending.
CPU and GPU differs.DO NOT TRY!
lol thank you : Then i think buying a S2+ was a mistake.. Thread can be locked.
Yes it was, use the device as what it is, a smartphone.
Sent from the little guy
S2+ is a good smartphone, but has far less support here on XDA.
Main things however have been developed (root, recovery, roms) and also some kernel (such as bnl).
Maybe could try to exchange with an "old" S2...
