Am I in the minority? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys! First post here and first Android (Atrix)...came from Iphone 3gs. I have been sitting back and looking at these forums for a while since my fiance got a captivate.
I have rooted my Atrix and am using LP and I must say, this phone ROCKS! Battery is no problem for me because I keep my phone plugged in during the day.
From a former Iphone owner, I am glad to have this phone and to tell Steve Jobs goodbye.
Everyone who contributes to this forum rocks!
THANK YOU!!!!
-G

YES finally a 1 poster member that isn't a troll post!
The phone is a great phone. It has a few out of the box flaws, but nothing that is a showstopper for most people.
Dont think you need to keep it plugged in all day, the battery is more then enough to get the average... even above average user easily 14+ hours. I'm at 14 hours with 40% remaining!
Coming from the iPhone, if you want the iPhone icon look, use ADW Launcher. There's a setting in there for the blocky colored icon look.

I also like my Atrix, I am from 3Gs and Nexus One

I love mine. I am at 42 hours now, havent used it TOO much, but I have been texting all day, and have about an hour of calls, and it's at 20% now. This was after my 3rd charge, the first day or two it was low but it's gotten absolutely outstanding. The phone flies, the first day or two I was pretty disappointed coming from an ip4, but it has really picked up. Regardless of the reviews, I am using the newest Firefox and find it to be extremely zippy. Even Flash on the phone seems to be pretty fast, and when I had my Nexus One it was pretty miserable. I had thought about swapping back to an iPhone, but this has really grown on me, and I will be keeping it.

No way, you're not the only one.
I absolutely love my Atrix. I literally haven't stopped playing with it since I got it, I keep finding new fun things to do with it and creative ways to customize it and get the best usage out of it. I haven't even had any issues with said "out of the box flaws" that other people are having. Coming from an old iPhone user, and a more recent Captivate user, this phone has been more than a solid upgrade. Love everything about it.

Same here.
I still have my iphone 4 and nexus one, but the Atrix really is amazing. Hopefully we'll get some kind of bootloader solution so that the devs can really go to work on this beast.

love my Atrix

No doubt, now sell that iphone before they announce a new one.

Sold my iphone 4 today and have no regrets. While the iphone is super polished android is a gadget junkies dream.
Things I love.
- notifications
- gmail
- customization
- not having to sync to a computer.
Things I dislike
- no music controls in notification bar. I love this on my tab.
- no quick brightness control.
- moto blur.
- app selection
Sent from my SPH-P100 using Tapatalk

the phone is definitely far from perfect, but DAMN is it FAST!!!!
Coming from the captivate, there are many things I miss (such as wireless controls from the pull down), but the speed makes up for ANY and ALL and EVERYTHING and ALWAYS

Coming from an iphone 3gs to the Atrix.
Honestly, it's like going from a Kia to a Porsche.
No really, it is.

Use one of the Market music apps, there's a few really good ones that make the stock one look like crap.
There's brightness widgets out there as well I'm pretty sure. If not, I'll make one!!

I can't wait to het my Atrix. I ordered mine from Bestbuy Friday night, express shipping. It says ill receive it either Monday or Tuesday. Of course I'm hoping for Monday. I'm coming from the HTC Evo.

Launcher pro or adw launcher to remove blur
For brightness I use the power control widget on my main screen and it does all the stuff that was in the notification bar on the touchwiz from my captivate. specifically it as wifi, bluetooth, gps, notifications, and brightness.
I have to say that I wasn't "blown away" by the phone like I was with my captivate (Hero was my first android), but so far nothing has sucked really bad and thats what I love about it. I know that over time the roms will improve stuff, and for now it rocks enough to not have to change anything and be content.

Trying to go pick up mine today. Coming from an iPhone 4. Hope mine goes as yalls did.

I love my Atrix! I don't know what all the whining is about on the forum. Most of the issues are caused by the users and not knowing Android. I had several Android phones and this my first Motorola after 4 HTC devices. I am impressed so far. HTC lost in quality in the last 2 years...but this Motorola is rock solid. I switched from T-mobile to AT&T and my speed went from 0.8 mbps to 3mbps download. Couldn't be happier with my choice

came from iphone 3g, to captivate temporarily, now on atrix. love this fawking thing to death.
im just DIEING to have a custom rom, and the ability to overclock, and have good custom themes like i did on the captivate.....and i keep looking for an update in the thread, ive read the whole thing. and i has a sad. granted i dont know anything about what these awesome developers do, but from what i read my hopes arent high that i will ever be able to use a custom kernel.
if the bootloader never manages to get cracked, the next phone i buy i will be taking this into heavy consideration because i wouldnt want to own another android phone without being able to use all the fancy stuff the devs here make.

DAMN! I am so looking forward to these babies hitting the Aussie shores. May can't come any quicker.

First time user here too. Coming from iphone 2g to atrix 4g. Big jump for me and loving it!

[Q] Are you happy with your new phone ? (POLL)

Before ordering mine, a small poll
(Edit : "Your Phone", meaning your new S2 of course !!! )
No!!!
Because i have a N97 now, i guess in a few days i'll be happy with my SGS2
So far yes.
Yes, absolutely. I can see this potentially breaking my record for longest-owned phone.
As long as the gps is good, and doesn't cut out mid-journey (****ty DHD), it'll be perfect.

Definitely. Coming from the hero I am struggling to cope with the speed of this thing! It surprises me every time I launch an app! Touch wiz lasted about an hour before I tried to change the dock and it wouldn't let me. Golauncher ruins like a dream.

absolutely love it and i can yet think of a thing i'm not happy about. i feel sorry for my old desire which looks bulky and slow compare to this..=)

Open the app drawer, then press menu and choose edit. Now you can longpress the dock icons, widget style, then drag them to the app drawer. You can put whatever you want in the dock, although I believe only 3 apps (because the drawer needs an icon)

TouchWiz lasted about an hour for me too. It was actually the same problem that made me download ADW but even though I worked out how to do it, there's no reason to stick with it. The app drawer was such a mess, 6 pages of unsorted crap and no apparent way to sort alphabetically. I'm hearing more and more about Golauncher, I must try it.
if any one dares to say not happy, you better have a very very good reason why

Same here, my Hero is heading for Fleabay!!!
THIS PHONE IS AMAZING, and i actually really like Touchwiz, and as there was an app drawer sorter for the SGS, i'm sure one will come for this!
Might switch to ADW like i had on my Hero, especially with all that screen real estate, i can fit 6 rows on the home screen!!

3 questions from a future potential buyer:
1 - Does this finally have a Notification LED? (or do we have to use another backlight hack?)
2 - Does the phone get warm/hot during browsing especially with whites backgrounds? (Any temperature posts would be extremely welcomed, since this was an annoying issue with my Galaxy S)
3 - Does the phone feel too big? (length wise)
^ I always felt 4' was the sweet spot for phones. Your thoughts?
TIA!...

Pretty much what I was wondering. Just sold my Cappy for $500 and was looking for the next beast of a phone. Since the Atrix is uh.."limited", the sensation not out as yet, I guess the SGS 2 is probably my best bet, but a few questions, Im in Canada and:
1. Would it work on Rogers?
2. Am I even able to get it over here? 2a. And how?
How do people have the phone, it hasn't even come out?
It has come out in the UK hasn't it?

im not happy, i hate it.
Every freeken time i take out my phone some one wants to play with it.
and all these iphone 4 users keep getting dribble over my fone from salivating over its speed and flash support.
Owe and the worst thing some looser called steve jobs keeps emailing me asking if he could borrow it.
I should have kept my iphone 4 no one batters and eye.
Owe well the hassle continue.
LOL jokes im still waiting but i expect it to be like that.
If Engadget Guys (Fanboys) changed their view about android after SGS2, I am sure your mates will love it too. Its a race now.. Apple need to come up with something very unique to overcome Android.

1. No
2. Not noticably
3. It's not comfortable for long phone calls (as I discovered last night), but for general usage it's about the right size for me. Despite it's gargantuan scree it is so svelte and quite ergomical, so it doesn't feel ridiculous in the hand.

Thinking about selling my iPhone and getting the Atrix. Is the Atrix rock solid??

I have been kicking around getting the Atrix as my first Android cause I love my friends HTC Incredible so much but I am on AT&T so the Atrix looks like a good one to me, but I am just wondering if this phone has any bugs that need to be worked out as far as software or hardware goes? Thanks
The bugs on the ATRIX is due to MOTOBLUR. You can set the ATRIX free if you root and unlock it

My experience with the Atrix.
I've had the phone for 3 days. Overall it's an amazing device. However, since I've had it the main issue has been reboots&crashes(my phone is not rooted). The funny thing is when I'm using it, it has never rebooted or crashed, but when it's idle it tends to crash frequently(about 10 times per day). As of now, I'm still trying to figure out what's causing this. So far from what I've found on a few android forums suggests that the problem only exists on some devices. There are some Atrix phones that don't have the rebooting problem at all.

Oh, okay so it's kind of like a Volkswagen where one is great and the other is junk? Ha ha just playin. But I take it that this is not really a common problem with this phone but you just got unlucky, and maybe another handful of people?
Or maybe like Mr flo said up above that it's all because of Motoblur?
Imo wait till October or November. There will be a whole new line up of phones coming out. The Atrix is epic but there will be better in the new future.

forget trying to figure out whats wrong and exchange it for another if you can, thats something in the hardware most likely
Overall it's a solid phone, and almost every iPhone user that made the changeover usually posts that they are happy they left the iPhone for the Atrix.
In the end you are getting a dual-core phone with a 1GB of RAM and a large battery.
Plus this phone just got the BL unlocked, so that means you will have CM7 and Ice Cream Sandwich in some form (possibly even official)...

The ATRIX is future proof....these current and upcoming dual-core phones have only matched the ATRIX. I have a custom rom and kernel....and my ATRIX flies

"future proof" makes me happy I just realized that I just made 10 posts! Ha ha!! I'm FREE!! Now it's time for me to go into the DEVELOPMENT THREAD and cause some real trouble, ha ha.
i have had mine for about 3 days, no reboots and whatnot. I am liking the way the phone feels and works. calls are clear via bluetooth speakerphone and the regular earpiece.
ive ditched the default messaging app for chomp sms(its basically bitesms but better and smoother in alot of ways, same dev team if im not mistaken). and im not using the default launcher anymore, launcher pro seems smoother.
anyway hardwarewise the phone is awesome, even with the motoblur on it in a nonrooted oem rom. with that said i plan to root and try out some different roms in the near future

This is my first android phone and I love it! I've already rooted and unlocked it. I've flashed several ROM's already and have had excellent results. There have been a few reboots and connection issues but nothing to seriously complain about. My current ROM has taken care of all that and I'm getting over 30 hours of battery life without changing anything. I don't know about "future proof" with LTE coming but it will be tough to find a better phone
I have 2 in my household.
The wife's is as stock as stock can be and it is rock solid. Never had an issue with the phone. No force closes, no issues, just a solid work beast. Nearly, only nearly mind, rivals a Berry for battery life.
Mine on the other hand has gone through the wars a bit as regards reliability BUT all of those issues were my fault not the phone.
I am like most of those posting here in that I do like to play and tinker with ROMs, apps and anything else we can think of playing with. The upside is that after that learning curve I have a phone that is fantastically quick, great battery life and not really going to be left wanting for much over the next year or two as regards hardware.
Same as most android's really it is what you make of it. If you want a solid work beast, it can do that. If you want to play, you can do that.
Importantly though is that the initial learning curve has been gone through, mostly on this great forum, so if you want to root, mod, unlock the bootloader and whatever else may come make sure you research it.
There is only one rule really. If you unlock the bootloader and use the official AT&T Gingerbread update NEVER go back to Froyo. Remember that and now it is quite hard to mess up.
I know I have tried !
Wow, thanks a lot guys... I think this will be my first Android after reading what you all have said about this phone. Thanks for taking the time to give me your opinions, and to the guy that hates the phone... Dude I'm really sorry you got a dud.

I don't use the speqkerphone, but I seen a lot of praise for it around here.

Alright, so this phone needs some serious consideration. Of Course, this phone probably didn't fly as much as it was promoted, I still guess its promotion was a little weaker than I expected.
I have been using Atrix since its launch. About 8 months and never had any issues with my phone.
Phone durability - Rock Solid, even though you can feel the plastic all around, but the phone is light in weight, and it still is very sturdy. Have dropped it a few times(Of course with a cover on top - so no scratches) but even after those many drops, phone is absolutely fine.
Screen - First qHD display. Truly amazing. I feel it better than iPhone's retina display, trust me when I say it, have used iphone 4 and exchanged it with Atrix.
Call Quality - SubPar. No noise issues. Whenever I receive a call, the person on the other end never complained.
Speakers - Loud and clear enough. Even when I put phone on speaker while driving, it is just clear. Loud enough to fill my car with voice easily.
Biggest Bonus - Unlocked Bootloader. Means, this phone is now free. With lots of Devs now coming up with new ROM's, and CM7 on its way, I have heard that MiUI is also coming to Atrix in near future, it is just an amazing feeling that how much customization is available for the phone, with Devs spending days and hours, it is just truly phenomenal.
Processor - with Dual Core 1GHz processor, this phone has got the raw power to beat up the competition. I feel, phone is fast enough to give solid competition to the upcoming new android variations, upcoming iphone and so on. As someone earlier said, it is a future proof phone, not only because it has got the Dual Core processor, but because it has got Dual Core processor, even today, there are many phones which still get released with 1GHz Single Core, I think for next couple of years 1GHz Dual Core processing speed is safe from getting extinct. Also, the fact that Atrix can now be OverClocked to 1.3GHz, man you should see this phone, just totally flying with that much power.
Camera - As promised by Motorola earlier at the time of launch, with GingerBread, phone will be able to do 1080p, and yes it does it. What else would we need?
Another Bonus - Finger Print Scanner. Just unique by itself. No more words needed to explain what it is.
Last but not Least, Battery - Solid. Usually, I have always seen people be able to get around atleast a day out of the Atrix battery easily. Now with different applications available to help us save the battery, it is even easier to get more out of it.
Webtop Dock etc... - Personally I don't use any other accessories for Atrix, so no idea, but have heard they all are also similarly amazing.
If I missed out on anything, I am pretty sure, I have got something good to say about it, as long as it is related to (M)Atrix.
If you got the phone, you should be happy. If you are thinking of getting one, go for it. If you dislike it, it is your personal choice and I am sure people will respect it.
Cheers!!!
Well Guy's!! I took your suggestion (besides that one guy) and I got the Atrix! Thank you thank you!!! I love this phone already. I have the bootloader unlocked, rooted, clockwork recovery, and the Alien ROM installed. Awesome phone, thanks so much for you help. After having the iPhone and then switching to this phone, there are so many things and so many ways to customize this phone it's insane. I almost don't know where to begin. See ya out on the forums!
I wouldn't have gone with the atrix personally. I had one. Froze a lot, soft rebooted A LOT, screen was not accurate to touch and would become unresponsive at times, not to mention it was SLOW(for being a dual core tegra phone). Like others say though, its mostly personal preference. I may have also had a bad one. I've owned many androids and I personally rate the atrix worse than a poopy aria.... its on the bottom of my list. I got my nexus s now and have never been more pleased.

Are you happy with your Atrix?

I just got a Thrill 4G and Im thinking about trading it in for an Atrix. The phone is great but the battery life sucks, and I cannot see the 3D screen with sun glasses on. I live in AZ so they are on every time I go outside so that is an important deciding factor for me.
The Atrix is $49 today so Im thinking about getting one. I'd love to hold out for the SGS2, but who knows when it will be out and it will prob be $199.
So, would you buy an Atrix again if you had to do it over again?
If I wouldn't of had to sell my first ATRIX I wouldn't have. My fave phone!
Tapped from my ATRIX.
No-brainer imo --- the atrix is FAR superior; I'll admit that with stock gingerbread the phone is kinda meh....still an awesome phone but nothing mindblowing. I assume since you're here you'll be unlocking and flashing it...which makes the phone AMAZING. The 3-D stuff just seems so gimmicky to me and won't be perfected/well-implemented for a good amount of time to come.
As far as the SGS2, on paper it looks like an amazing phone but I'll have to wait to see - I had the captivate and was so disappointed with it (anyone that had that phone from the beginning knows how horrendous Samsung's support was). I hope that Samsung has learned a lot since the beginning of the GS line because a phone with such amazing hardware shouldn't have so many problems.

I actually know exactly what you mean because I bought my Captivate a couple days after it was released. I still have it, dont use it, but I was really happy with it after flashing ROMS on it. The development forum on that phone is fantastic.
Yes, I would never have a stock phone. Did they ever get the bootloader unlocked on this phone? I know that was the major reason that people hesitated to get it.
i love my atrix. nothing out there is better to me. im running CM7 beta on it right now. so fast.

Love it, fast, nice camera, nice speaker, good gaming performance with THD games, great community.

I didn't miss it because I wasn't looking for it. I don't have an Atrix and was asking a question.
Everything I've read says that the Atrix also has poor battery life. I saw a thread on a battery calibration and mod that is supposed to help. I dont want to trade ina phone with bad battery life for another phone with bad battery life.
Both have a dual core CPU but the Atrix has 1GB of RAM which is nice IMO. I cant see the Thrill 3D screen with sunglasses on which sucks to me. The 3D is very gimmicky and hurts my eyes, lol. And there is only one ROM and the dev's seems to be bailing on this phone so I don't see a very good future in the Thrill dev threads.

Bad battery life reports are the vocal minority. Most of us here consider the battery to be one of the Atrix's strong points. I can get 2 1/2 days with light usage on mine with CM7 installed on it. Thats with wifi set to never sleep, and with GPS and 3G/HSPA enabled.
I love the Atrix. Literally the only problem I have with it is the pentile display, and even then its a very minor issue.
It has a 1930mAh and all the review sites i've read say the battery life is very good. Flashing a custom rom will make it even better! People have been getting like 16-24 hrs with Wifi and everything on, constantly browsing the internet and playing games (read it on youtube)
This is my first Android phone. Came from 4 years with the iPhone. Ill tell you this...not looking back. This phone was great stock. Now running cm7, this thing is fuggin amazing... battery and performance are nothing short of great.

The Atrix is an incredibly solid device. Gotta give AT&T credit for getting a top-notch device out of Motorola.
well it sounds like you guys are quite happy with it. If the battery life is that great then it's a no-brainer for $49.99. I do believe hat Im gonna return my thrill today. It a cool phone, but im a power user and ROM flashing addict so it seems i'll fit right in.

Good choice. The only HTC that is a solid Atrix competitor on AT&T (candybar Android w/o keyboard) is the Inspire4G, but honestly, after several HTC devices and several Moto devices, HTC may come up with cool designs and features, but Moto is great at implementing reliable, high-performing designs. I've never gotten the "oh, that is cheap" feeling with a Moto phone, while Samsung and HTC . . . meh!
Typically find out people who are complaining about battery life have heavy usage that would have even worse battery life on other phones. You had a captivate like I did, so I can tell you this phones battery kicks the **** out of the captivates....and will be even more amazing should you decide to UV it.
If you want to see a GOD AWFUL battery, **** around with an HTC inspire for about 6 hours lol.
Anyway, I think you should at least give the Atrix a try and worst case scenario you don't like it you bring it back within the 30 day window (assuming you will have one).

I guess I'm the lone dissenter here. I'm not a fan of the Atrix. Maybe I got a lemon but it seems like there are a lot of problems.
The build quality is suspect. Dust and even a very small piece of cat hair has gotten under the screen. The back plate/battery cover feels cheap and creaks when I hold it. The GPS is rarely able to get a lock on my position, rendering it useless. Also, bluetooth connection is unreliable. I've tried 2 vehicle systems and 3 headsets. They are all able to pair fine, but lose connection in the middle of phone calls.
And if you've done research on the Atrix I'm sure you've read all about Motoblur and how ugly it makes the UI. It's all true. I'm on gingerbread and I have to say its hideous. The stock in-call screen, dialer and photo gallery all look like something designed by an elementary student.
Can you flash it and fix the ugliness of the UI? I'm not a techy but from what I've read the answer seems to be mixed. It would appear yes you can just as long as the OTA update of gingerbread has not been installed on the phone. If it has, you're either screwed or prepare to spend the next 3 years of your life reading up on how to hack the device.
On the positive side, believe everything you've seen about the Atrix's speed. By far the fastest phone I've ever used. The screen is nice and bright as well.

It sounds like you might have got a lemon. But, I had the ota update and flashed it the very same day with no problems at all so it honestly isn't that difficult.

There are many options to get rid of the stock gingerbread Motoblur look. The obvious choice is CM7, which will do away with Blur entirely, and make your phone quite a bit quicker. Most themes available in XDA will get rid of the Blur look, and there is a huge selection in the App and Theme section. I use the ext4 Homebase Rom with his Honeycomb theme, and it significantly speeds up my phone.
I would recommend the Atrix over other Android phones for a few reasons. The biggest reason why I like it so much is because of the form factor. I like the 4 inch screen more than 4.3 or 4.5 or 9.3. Battery life has been pretty good, at least as good as I can reasonably expect from a smartphone. The hardware specs are comparable to any other Android device, and if you're willing to root and flash custom Roms, you will notice a marked improvement over stock performance (which I think is true of any Android phone). What really makes this phone as slick as it is are its accessories. I just bought the lapdock from Vancouver Craigslist for $150 and I love it. I knew when I bought it that it was kind of gimmicky (like the 3D from your Thrill), but for what I need this tool for, it's been outstanding. Nothing beats watching Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad on my hour commute to work while simultaneously charging my phone!
I love my Atrix, and it's a shame the phone got such a bad wrap off the bat due poor implementation of Blur on 2.2, and encrypted bootloader. Now with the unlocked bootloader and better blur, in addition to more and more custom roms being built, this phone is coming closer to its potential. I wish it had a metal back plate, but I understand the potential of worse reception and getting hotter than the plastic cover. All in all, the only phone I would remotely consider exchanging my Atrix for would be the Sensation, and even then I think I'd really have to be sold on the idea. I hope this helps with your decision.
Cm7 is a must on the atrix. I've tried other roms but none ever worked quite right. Annoying fc & other errors - but thanks to those devs for putting in the time & effort. Blur is complete crap: I couldn't even listen to my mp3s without the music stuttering bcuz the phone was busy searching for "suggestions" of similar songs I may like. Damn you, for the unwanted marketing on my device, at&t & Motorola. For a while, I very much regretted trading in my iPhone. But now all is well. Thank you cm7 devs!
So I just got my Atrix
It has 1.2.6 as a build on it, and from reading I'm not finding too much information on that build. I don't think that I want to do the OTA to 4.1.57 though because I keep reading about bricks. I'm going to put a ROM on it, more than likely CM7 so Im not sure what good it would do to update OTA. I'll have to root it though so I guess I can get on that first but all of the root guides are for 1.8.x and up.

Thinking of switching from galaxy nexus to resound. Quick questions.

Greetings earthlings. I was thinking about making the switch from the gnex to the rznd. I was wondering if there were any stock roms out there (no sense). Also how does flashing a rom work with s on? And finally anything else I should consider before making the switch?

You should consider that the Nexus sucks and the Rezound is amazing.
Just kidding, but the Rezound really is better. I've only had HTC phones, so I don't know how the Nexus flashes ROMs, but we can do it right in recovery. The only (small) hassle is that we have to flash kernels through the bootloader, but our devs have come a long way in simplifying that process. There are a few ROMs that are stripped of Sense as well.

Also, as best I understand it, you will not be able to flash alternate radios or splash screens.
As the responder above me indicated, there are no straight AOSP ROMs at this time. Check through the Android Development section and see if any of the "Senseless" ROMs fit your needs.

Having owned both the Nexus and the Rezound, I dumped the Nexus and went back to the Rezound. You won't regret it.
The Rezound was only unlocked last week so roms are a little limited at the moment. However, we have some great devs working on it.

I made the switch from a SGN.... I must say, your going to miss some things that the Nexus had (ICS), but your really going to love things the Rezound brings to the table. There are a handful of roms out now. I think the Senseless rom you'll have to install a 3rd party Launcher. I've come to really enjoy Sense... I;ve read about people wanting to get Sense off thousands of times... My only question is... Why? It actually functions quite awesome...
I'm quite happy with the Rezound, the Dev Support is great, and I'm almost positive there will be quite a few more by the 15th when everyone returns their Nexus because the Reception and speaker both are terrible!!
Good luck..
Don't forget the Rezound will be getting ICS soon as well. It's only a temporary loss.

Soon? More like next fall.
i too am thinking of switching from Gnexus to Rezound.
I think in a couple months the truth is going to come out that the Gnexus is actually quite a very subpar phone.
PenTile matrix display, abysmal battery life, and the extremely poor camera quality are enough to have me switch to the rezound.
here is my main concern though, what kind of battery life do you guys get? with my gnexus LTE enabled all day, i could only get about 2 hours of on-screen time. what about the rezound?
thanks in advanced.
Thanks for all the info! Does android wifi tether currently work with rooted rezounds? Also are speeds on lte better? (Noticed lower speeds on gnex)
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
yes wifi tether does work.
I currently just traded my GNEX for a Rezound.
Best choice I've made.
As the GNEX is a great phone.
The Rezound is just amazing.
You won't be upset if you do choose to trade up.
S-ON isn't too bad since we have root.
S-OFF would be ideal, but I'm plenty happy with what we have and is to come
I came from a GNEX and really, really like this phone. The thing that impressed me the most is the screen.
The GNEX has a big, beautiful screen but the colors seemed kind of washed out. The Rezound, the colors just pop and seem very vibrant. Greens are a brilliant green, red's are brilliant red. It's hard to explain, but it is very noticeable.
I also noticed a considerable difference in the camera quality on the Rezound compared to the GNEX. Sure, you're not going to take 20 photos in a second with the Rezound but you do get better quality pictures. Feature wise, both phones offer the same recording features/
I have flashed a couple roms, it was very easy and am very encouraged by the development work that is going on.
I'm one of those few people who actually like Sense, so I really do like what HTC has done with the UI. The ICS dialer pissed me off to no end, it was huge bulky and just seemed very.. blah. While the Sense dialer isn't better, it is at least a bit more functional.
One last thing I would throw out there is that I never knew about the UOT Kitchen (can't link yet, but search the forums and you'll find it) until I happened across a post in this forum. I have to say, it is one of the coolest and easiest ways to give your phone your own personal flair. I'm sure that ICS / GNEX will be supported on the Kitchen but for now, you at least get that benefit on the Rezound.
Anyway, hope this helps somewhat.

I can't give a good answer to that as my area isn't 4G... I have chargers everywhere in my house and at my office so Battery Life isn't such an issue for me. I have flashed two roms today and have been playing with it non-stop all day and I think it has been on the charger maybe two hours.. Maybe someone in a 4g area could respond to that better.. I do know that on a normal day, it is way way better than my Nexus... The batt life was HORRID on it.. On the Rezound I wouldn't consider getting the bigger battery, because the battery isn't that bad for me.. In 8 days of owning the SGN, my battery went dead 3x... Rezound hasn't gone dead yet..
I loved the SGN... I'll be the first to tell you.. If it had a louder speaker and a better reception, I'd still have it... But the rezound has a awesome speaker, and the reception is hands down as good as my Droid X or better...
Its a big decision for you to make.. I don't think you will be unhappy making the switch...
I made the switch. I miss ics miss
I don't miss the poor battery life.
I don't miss the loud signal in reno
I don't miss the soso camera
I don't miss the plastic cheap feel.
I have the bigger rezound battery. I haven't used it. The stock battery seems fine.
I love the camera.
It's really fast.
I think I like the 720 screen better on the rezound.
Beats is lame. The headphones are heavy and barely stay in my ears.
I'm not a fan of sense but I don't hate it.
I will keep the rezound. It just works.

I agree.
We have both phones on our corporate VZ account. I am in charge of that account and get my phones for free.
If I wanted a GN I could have one tomorrow, but I am not impressed with the GN AT ALL and I couldn't wait to get one for months before it was actually released.
I do like the huge screen size, I wish my Rezound had a 5" screen, but there is absolutely NOTHING ELSE I like about the GN.

For me it turned out to be more simple than I thought, I had been up for an upgrade for about 6 months (previous phone BB Curve). I was debating on specs and features of the Razr, GN, and Rezound. I would go back and fourth on what i really wanted. But as soon as I waled into the store and actually picked up the phone, i knew which one I wanted. Razr felt horrible in the hand and just down right uncomfortable (i am really not a thin kinda guy). GN felt as if even with a case it would break at even the smallest drop. But the RZ felt solid even w/o a case.
Even after looking at how the phones worked, it still went to the RZ. Now my decision was even more correct now that I have it fully rooted.
I get great battery life (for the type of phone)
Great platform for whatever I use my phone for
Great picture quality
and a VERY solid device that I have a feeling I will be happy with for 2 more years.

Why the hate for the Galaxy Nexus when upgrading to G2?

I'm slated to get the G2 today according to Fedex, so I've been doing a ton of reading on custom ROMs and whatnot. It seems like there are a ton of users on XDA (along with other message boards) who are going from the Galaxy Nexus to the LG G2 (myself included).
It seems like everyone hates the GNex, which I'm confused about. Sure, it's not the latest phone, but it still runs circles around the majority of my friends pre-2013 flagship phones. The only problem I've seemed to have is the USB port breaking, but that was an easy fix.

I had a GNex and regretted it nearly from the start. Its release was delayed for so long that it felt like a previous-generation device at the time. Sure it was a first with NFC, by how many times have you really used NFC? I tried to transfer a photo once, and it failed with some error. I've never encountered another person who wanted to tap-and-share something. Ever. I think I used Google Wallet one time at a fast food joint and even then I had to fiddle with it to get it to work properly.
Don't get me started on the folks who want a stock Android experience and then proceed to load up Nova Launcher, ROM Toolbox, and all these other mods to make the thing look like Sense.
It's not hate but people locked in 2 years contracts. I am still torn between N5 nad G2 but my GNex is going to retire :crying:. I loved it but it's time for it to go.
Saying that I might actualy extend it's life. Some soft and it will turn into Madia Centre/smart TV, permanently atached to my TV

I came from a GNex as well and I think the biggest thing for me is the night and day difference between the battery life. I just accepted having to deal with multiple batteries and charging my GNex all the time but I didn't realize how much of a pain that was until I got my G2. For example, last night I forgot to put my G2 on the charger, which was after a moderate day of usage mind you, that of which my Nexus never would have been able to make through the whole day without charging in the first place. But this morning I still have over 50% charge on my G2 and will easily be able to make it the rest of the day without charging it, whereas my Nexus would have easily died over night and I would have been left without a charged phone this morning.
The second gripe I had with my GNex was the stock Android experience. It seems like all the hardcore Nexus users love stock Android and think it is the best thing since sliced bread, and I'll admit I was partly in that boat for a while. However, once I got my G2 and used LG's UI for the first time, I can honestly say that I don't think I'll ever go back to stock Android. I realize the LG UI isn't the best thing out there and I do have some minor gripes with it, but the stock UI is so dark, bland and dull in comparison. Also, it seems like stock Android is always playing catch up with the other Android variants that are out there by adding features that others have had built in for months (quick settings in notification bar is the first thing that comes to mind). The overall experience on any of the custom Android variants, let alone LG's UI, is just totally different, and way better than stock Android in my opinion.
I had a VZW GNex that is mostly serviceable, but battery power became a serious issue. I carried 2 spare batteries daily because the original battery couldn't hold up for 1/2 a day within 6 months of ownership, then the spares (Anker extended duo) that I picked up for ~$15 eventually started to lose capacity as well by the 1 year mark. Now that 2 years just rolled by, the "which battery did I forget to recharge last night" game has lost its amusement. Swappable batteries are nice, but basic battery life is more than essential.
I'd like stock android and/or nexus for my phone, but my 2013nexus7 is more than enough to fill that gap. VZW won't get the nexus 5, so the G2 is the closest I'll get for a while to those specs. With Nova all over the place, there's really not much difference anyway. I fully expect a 4.4 ROM to appear for the G2 that can keep all the custom goodies no matter how long VZW officially takes.
I'm coming from gnex also. As from first desire to gnex. Was a nice trip with many many problems. Loved both devices and I already love G2.

When you get your G2 and realize that you don't have to keep a charger in your pocket....you will understand. After that shock is over...you will then realize what a truly amazing phone this is
Reception is also an issue the GNex had. At work, my old GNex would drop to 3G all the time, often multiple times a day (the tower is only about half a mile away, too). Since I upgraded to the G2 back in September, I've seen that happen exactly one time.
And that's if you didn't get one of the many, many GNex units that had a faulty radio. Dropping signal at random was a huge problem for GNex owners, and many of them had to go through swaps -- sometimes more than once -- to get one that "worked".
I loved my GNex but couldnt deal with the terrible battery life any more.
I'm one of those people. I honestly loved my gnex. It was just time for an upgrade. And I agree that the optimus ui is refreshing. in the 5 years or so of owning an Android device. This is the first time used the stock home launcher the whole time. That alone shows how great this UI is. But for 2 year old phone the Galaxy Nexus was pretty awesome. Besides the battery and camera it runs circles around any phone released in that time frame

probably because of the awful battery life, the awful radios, the TERRIBLY AWFUL screen which was full of burn in, banding and a yellow tint and the awful camera.
