Will the root work for the canadian version of the phone? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I guess the same question applies to all the dock hacking they've been doing on the dev portion of this site for the atrix. From what I can gather, they haven't finished it, but they're well on their way to almost figuring it out (although a lot of the jargon does go over my head, so I could be wrong).
Do we know if it will all work the same with the Canadian version of the phone?

[Q]

I bought an eris off craigslist, and this time around it was a bit of a ripoff.
make a long story short, guy cloned it (or so it seems) and I couldn't really get it to work. So now i started reading the
HOW TO: Fully Flash an HTC Droid Eris to Metro PCS found on Howard Forums and copied throughout the area
and it's a great read. I go to metro pcs, have them flash it. They tell me that since it was cloned the ID numbers on it are from some old phone at some point the phone may stop working. (Great...)
Hence I need a phone so I have this until i get another or it dies and I get another-whichever comes first.
Now in reading that great tutorial I have come to part 3, number 6. I can't get it to work properly. So i post on that thread my dilemma (it's on the last page of it), and someone replied that if I am getting "$" prompts and not a "#" prompt it isn't rooted.
oookkkkkkkkk.
So now, i am looking to root it I guess. After reviewing some threads here it seems there are some massive advantages to rooting the phone. and find this nice thread:
Eris Rooting Guide: Updated 18 November 2010, 10:47 am Central U.S. (found on androidforums)
So now that you have some background and I am running out of breath, here's the actual questions (please keep in mind while i learn quick and am "computer techy" i am oblivious to phones):
1) Will rooting the phone mess up my flash, or the fact that it's cloned.
2) Will it wipe out any valuable information?
3) If I root it will i lose connection to my service?
4) is there a way to reset the phone so I have the original ID numbers to it? (guy at metro pcs dealer tried and it wouldn't work no matter what he did and i thought him pretty fluent in his work)
5) most folks have told me to go with the 1 click root, while that sounds awesome, does it truly matter what rom i use? (one with it or something like froyo (not v 38 i guess)
Additionally if someone could recommend some good reads, I would appreciate it. While I realize most people first think to scour the posts posted (and I have) it's difficult to pull tangible information in an efficient manner with such a vague search ( How to root eris), not to mention, I would prefer advice from reputable folks and there are always ppl out there to hurt others (hence i know this is THE place to go )
OK, now Ive run out of breath
Thanks in advance to all
JSammy
PS sorry can't post links - im a noob to this board
1) Will rooting the phone mess up my flash, or the fact that it's cloned.
It shouldn't.
2) Will it wipe out any valuable information?
No.
3) If I root it will i lose connection to my service?
No.
4) is there a way to reset the phone so I have the original ID numbers to it? (guy at metro pcs dealer tried and it wouldn't work no matter what he did and i thought him pretty fluent in his work)
Not sure. Probably not.
5) most folks have told me to go with the 1 click root, while that sounds awesome, does it truly matter what rom i use? (one with it or something like froyo (not v 38 i guess)
You can use whatever ROM you like. I personally recommend Tazz Floyo. It's a matter of preference.

Root myTouch

Please excuse my noob questions.
I've done a bit of google searching and I've looked on here as well and can't seem to find what I'm looking for. So I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction.
I just ordered a new T-Mobile myTouch (this phone).
I'm looking for info on how to root/hack it. I'm not entirely new to doing this. I changed my HD2 from Windows to Android, so I've got my feet wet in this a little in the past.
Any info available for this phone? Any help would be great.
Thanks!
Have you tried SuperOneClick?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
probably the easiest, and probably most likely way to do this
I rooted my Xperia Play yesterday with it
I actually haven't tried anything yet. I won't have the phone for a few more days (ordered online).
Rooting isn't my only concern. I guess I worded my original post wrong. I would like the option of loading custom roms as well as rooted.
I also like the HTC programs (e-mail app, etc). As far as I know, I will need a Sense build to get all of that. This is the reason I would like to load a custom rom.
As far as SuperOneClick goes, I've tried to use it in the past on other phones. Its success is kind of hit or miss with me. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

[Q] Bought a rooted and flashed Ntelos Photon

I bought a photon last week thats on Ntelos Frawg. so theres that... it works great, but its also rooted. i didnt do it, and dont know anything about rooting. ive been trying to look into it but its just not my thing. dont get it. sorry for being so nooby, but i didnt ask for it lol. anyway, how can i see whats already been done to it, and how can i know what could b done to it? the guy who sold it to me can do stuff to it. but i gotta know what i want him to do. please! any help will be appreciated.
Theres a free app in the market called "root checker" or something along those lines, its an easy way to check if you have root. You can tell if the bootloader is unlocked by looking at the top left corner of your screen when it is first booting, if it says "unlocked" then your bootloader is unlocked. It will show it while at the Moto dual core screen. I'd personally read up on rooting, unlocking, and all that goodstuff so you know what you have/can do. But basically root allows you to install apps that unleash androids true potential that you cant use without having root access, like free wifi tether, etc. Unlocking your bootloader allows you to install a new recovery(ClockworkMod usually) which then allows you to flash new ROMS and Kernels. I wont go into much depth there but it basically allows you to customize your phone how YOU want it to be, via Roms, Kernels, Themes, and all that. Currently with our Photon though you will lose Sprint 4g(Wimax) by unlocking the bootloader so if its important to you than you may not want to unlock the bootloader. Theres plenty of threads on XDA and other sites too that have loads on info on CWM, ROMS, Root, and everything. QBKing77 has a bunch of SUPER great Youtube videos for us Photon owners(and other phones) so be sure to look for those! If you have any more questions or anything feel free to PM me or post on the forums!
^^^ this
and make sure not to pay him for all these "awesome services". the tools are all here for free. i dont charge anyone for teh one click, theres no reason for anyone to charge others for it
@shabby i actually have your kernel and im totally satisfied, the only thing i really want right now is the slide to wake feature. Does it support it? And if not, im having a hard time finding one that does without losing stuff i do need. I guess it might only be for the evo right now?
Well i think anyway lol.

Cant speak for him, but im pretty sure whoever made the slide to wake feature hasnt released the source code yet, and without that the devs cant really do much but wait. Here is a link to the thread where people were discussing it for the Photon, im sure if/when we get it that this thread will be updated or a comment posted.

[Q] Variant based forums

Being a Member of XDA for a while now I recall in the past on different models that XDA use to create sub-forums for Carrier Variants. I.E. Verizon, Sprint, GSM based. This was helpful for the noobs and Rom creators in making sure that Noobs didn't flash the incorrect Rom or Recovery.
Looking at the HTC One Max forums there occasionally is this confusion as members will post a general variant specific issues and a novice not knowing the difference would unintentionally use it thinking it applied to their device. Some Devs don't identify there Roms or indicate a variant which contributes to the issue.
I think it would be very beneficial for development on this device to have Variant based sub forums. Additionally having variant based sub-forums will help identify Underdeveloped devices.
Just my 2 cents.

I'm sure when we get way more than 3 threads in original and 3 in development they will look at dividing the Max forum. Until then we need anyone that posts anything to ensure they identify what model it will work on. I believe most of the development done for us thus far does not identify which model it works for because it works across all (in one form or another).
To be honest most if not all of the issues people have had thus far is because they are not searching and reading to understand something before they do it. I guarantee a dev or someone with knowledge will try to help the best they can. BUT no one wants to help someone that doesn't try to help themselves by understanding what they are doing first.
If anyone notices that some development is device specific and it is not labeled as such then ping the dev and ask that they identify it appropriately. And if anyone feels strongly enough that something is not labeled or mislabeled that could end up causing issues with someone's device then AFTER ASKING THE OP to update feel free to contact one of our mods to correct or close the thread until it is adjusted. Many hands make light work...
i can see both points here

I can see the point as well. But it will be a while before the forums are divided if at all. I said "until then" because we all need to work together now to police the threads to make sure things are made clear if they are not.

yeah i know what you mean. we clearly need more roms and development before anything gets split up

I know coming from the Motorola Droid HD forums that the impact of not separating them is lots of "Learning Experiences". I am quite learned in the rooting/bootlocker experience and even I was confused by the variants in that forum. I got it sorted out but it took longer then is should have.
I am in the process of learning java and android development and I plan on properly labeling my threads and apps. Oh and Blender for Custom Boot Animations. I have a Plan for A Doctor Who based Animation.
Plus I like tidiness and organization. Makes things more efficient.
How do I tell which version of the One Max I have?
It's one of the 32 gig versions, it's gsm and works on United states ATT. baseband version is 4T,27.3218.14_10.33C.1718.01L Software number says 3.15.1540.1 I think it might be the Hong Kong or British one, but it's been quite confusing trying to figure out which is which. I bought it off Amazon, so I know there's a chance that the software has been "improved' a bit.
Thanks for any help-I did try to search on it, but wasn't finding anything with useful info for me, or possibly I just don't know where to look. It's been some few years since I had an HTC..I bought the original G1 on opening day
Any help, or even just a point in the right direction would be most appreciated. I'd like to get this sucker rooted and get rid of the crapware as soon as possible

Sorry to ask thid here...

.....but it seems they are soooooo ignorant.arrogant over on the V50 forum.
Weeks ago i posted a simple question asking in the V50 can can be rooted (UK) Hundreds have viewed buy zero answeres.
Seen as thoguh I only recently gave my mother the V30.....can u pretty please let me help me out and any ideas if v60 can be rooted?
thanks
Matt
You may want to be more clear on what you're asking for... you mention 3 phones in your post, so I'm not sure which one you're askign about, really. I assume it's not the V30. That said, the V60 shows very little ROM development, which makes me think it's not rooted. Lack of ROMs generally means there is no root.
The V50 has a few ROMs, so that implies it probably does have root capability...
That said, I realize the principles that people have regarding rooting... I was once in that camp myself. But these days, I find it's hard to get it... and it really may not be necessary. I gave up root on my current S10 for this reason, even though it can be rooted in specific situations. For this reason, I question the real "necessity" of it.
i wan to root my V50 just for the sake os system app remover and titanium backp.
thanks
Matt
As I've learned on my new S10, TiBu hasn't been updated in many years and doesn't quite work as well as it used to either. People have had to find alternative apps to do those tasks. In Samsung-land, Samsung Switch works pretty well for this purpose, and doesn't require root. There are others.
Similarly, you don't need root to remove system apps on the S10 either - you can remove them via ADB these days. I'm guessing you can probably do the same on the V50. However, IMO you don't need to remove system apps as much these days because phones have lots more memory and Android is more efficient in dealing with background apps.
To each their own, but the old ways of doing things may have been superceded... so you may not need root anymore... not that you can get it as easily either.
