App that restores "desktop" after flashing a ROM - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Currently running Bionix 1.3.
I do know about Titanium Backup backing up and restoring apps.
Is there an app that can restore your "desktop"? When I flash a new ROM, I have to redo my "desktop".
Thanks for the info.

As far as I'm aware this is only partially possible. Third party launchers like ADW Ex for instance, allow you to save settings, and this includes icon positions. What will not be restored properly are Widgets, and as I understand it this is an Android limitation.
On the flip side, I've grown so accustomed to flashing new roms I can now recreate my homescreen layout in a couple of minutes. Practice makes perfect?

ADW/LP all have desktop "restore" in their settings menu.
If you wanna save/restore the gblauncher/desktop from the Bionix defaults.
Use the option in the SGSTools App.

I am interested in this ability also. I assume you are talking about the SGS Tools program. I am d/l it right now. I'll let you know if it works.
I'm running Bionix v.
OK, It does NOT backup the settings from the ASOP Launcher.
Is there a program or a way that does backup/restore the ASOP launcher desktops.

[Q] Titanium Backup and shortcut restore

I have used TB to backup and restore several times after a flash but have yet to find a way to restore all the shortcuts to the screens other than redoing each one by one. Am I missing or is this just the way it is.

If you are using LauncherPro, then home screens can be backed up to sd card then restored after a flash, but widgets must be restored manually.
Not so sure about ADW or Touch Wiz cuz I don't use them.
Sent from my XDA app cuz I'm stalking your mom....
You can backup/restore ADW as well.... its in the menu options like LP.
Not sure I understand the process. Kind of new to this. I am using the stock launcher that came down with Bionix V. I was able to restore all my apps but my home screens did not restore all the widgets and shortcuts to the apps. Can you be more basic in the steps I need to take to restore just the home screen shorcuts/ widgets etc?
Thanks

[Q] How to back up home screen and app screen?

Hi! as per topic, how do I back up my home screen and application screen layout? I am using Cognition Rom 1.12 atm and everytime I upgrade rom I cant seem to restore my previous screen layout.
I have no problem restoring all the apps and system data just not the icons, widgets and folder layout. I need to manually arrange my icons position and sort all the folders all over again each time I upgrade rom.
I used Titanium Backup and I only see [WALLPAPER/SETTING] and other similar [SETTING] data but nothing related to homescreen and application screen.
Please help thanks!!
Using Titanium is correct, but it's not your homescreen that you need to save. It's the app & data for whatever launcher you use (TouchWiz, Launcher Pro, Go Launcher etc..)
However, it won't restore widgets - nothing can. That's down to the Android OS not allowing anything other than your fingers to create widgets. You'll have to manually add them, but everything else can be restored.
Just make sure to backup and restore both the app and the data.
oh you mean the red colored "TWLauncher 2.x.x" or something??
if you run launcher pro, it has a backup homescreen function that works superb. it puts back your icons and layout of your homescreens exactly as you left it on any ROM.
titanium backup should be an option to try also.
WOW THANKS i need this !
so do I backup the TWLauncher ? will that also saved my application screen folder layout?

Yes - do app and data and the data will store your layout (minus widgets).

btw this also seems to work across different rom versions, and sometimes even across different roms.
only, my last wipe also wiped my internal sd card for whatever reason, hence the backups where gone

[Q] How to restore homescreen setup/layout?

Hi, I did a search but couldn't find any real answer other then "dont wipe data and homescreen should stay the same"
But when Flashing from ROM to ROM the Dev's require or recommend you to factory reset / wipe data. SO I want to know, what are some of you doing to restore your home screen layout? I know some of us spend quite sometime config. our homescreens and it sucks to re-do it. I use TB to back up my apps and data but have always practiced the "do not restore data from TB" as it has caused problems for me in the past, especially on my rooted xoom.
Thanks...
only restore green system data in titanium and you should be fine. theres a specific one that has homescreens. sometimes you cant though, if switching from froyo to gingerbread it wont work or vica versa. different versions of sense wont work either. a lot of times i found its easier to just take the five minutes and re set them up rather than deal with all the issues.
If you're using the same launcher on each ROM you can just backup that launcher's data and restore it to the new rom. If you have restored all the apps previously on your old homescreens, then everything will be as it was EXCEPT widgets. Widgets are the only thing that do not restore correctly. Just remove the broken ones and re-add them after restoring and you should be fine. I've done it this way for a long time and never had a problem. Having to manually fix the widgets is annoying but there's no way around that as far as I know and it doesn't really take that long (assuming you don't have a lot of them).
Thanks guys
Aight, thanks guys... I'll keep this tips in mind the next time.
Adw launcher lets you backup the layout and then restore it. I've found it to be hit our miss but its better than nothing.
Go Launcher can store setups, too. And check the widgets you use...some of them can store settings, and it might not be obvious. For example, SiMi clock, a very popular clock, allows you to do a ton of customizations with colors, etc. You can save your settings if you press menu while in the settings--took me a while to realize that. (I have gotten into the habit of pressing menu in the settings with various apps--not sure why they hide a settings menu within a settings menu, but they do.)

I actually find (personal experience) that ADW data backup/restore with TiBu does a better job than the one built into ADW. Same applies to other launchers as well since most include a backup/restore feature now. If it works better for you, glad to hear it. It just wasn't the case for me.

[Q] Backup/Restore Homescreen/Folder Preferences after installing new ROM

Hey guys,
I've been rooted and flashing custom firmware through cwm for quite a while now. I know how to use the nandroid/titanium backup methods to backup/restore apps + settings. However, the nandroid also seems to overwrite any new versions of apps with the old, so I would prefer not to use it.
That being said, is there any way to Backup/Restore the Folders I have made/Widget placement on the homescreen and of my apps? I've pored through the threads for a solid time, and I haven't found any regarding this topic.
I'm sure other people are having this problem too, because after you install a full wipe ROM and restore from titanium backup, only the apps and their data are restored, but not the configurations on the homescreen. It is a royal pain in the ASS to go through and segregate them into folders every. single. time. I flash a new firmware.
Suggestions? If there's already a thread about this and I've missed it, I apologize in advance, but I assure you, I've done my homework.

OK well as far as I know, there is no way to back up your touch wiz launcher. If you want to backup, you will have to use a different launcher. Go launcher and adw launcher both have a backup restore button for your desktop..

ugh, that stinks. If you use golauncher or adw, can you still make folders/resize widgets, etc.?
Thanks though!

I use GoLauncher and yes the widgets can be resized.
In addition to that I also use an app called Apps Organizer. It is used to assign labels to different apps; an app can be assigned more than one label. Example: Titanium Backup is assigned both Root and System. And the beauty is that these labels can be assigned as shortcuts on the homescreen.
So your labels or 'folders' get backed up by TiBU.

If you want to back up Touchwiz, it should be something like TwLauncher2.3.6 in Titanium Backup.

I've backed up and restored that same file, but it doesn't restore the apps in folders for me, maybe it's something to do with the custom firmware I'm running. But thanks!
This just happened to me this evening - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1491126
Phone entered itself in to safe mode for no apparent reason.
On reboot, app icons are almost all out of the folder I created in app drawer, and non-OEM widgets are missing from homescreen.
I have Titanium Backup, set to do "Redo backups for modified data" every Sunday at 2am.
What, if anything, can I do to restore my folders and widgets with minimal risk?
MyBackup Root can back up your folders and apps on the Touchwiz launcher, but it doesn't seem to do widgets. Better than nothing, at least.
I have it but wasn't scheduled so presumably can't restore.

Surely there's a way to restore layout using Titanium? How about restoring TWLauncher data? Is it in there?

Way to back up Touchwiz?

Currently using Apex because it restores like any other app with TB. Would quite like to use Touchwiz for a bit, but don't want to have to set it all up again after a new flash.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
Titanium Backup. Item to backup/restore is named "TouchWiz Home".
