wonder if there's a size limit for USB memory. I have 32gb soldered in place internally. Hope I don't run into trouble in the future when I bump that up to 64gb or even 128gb

I'm sure this is a "stupid" question from a newbie...
Last week I installed VEGAn 5.1.1 to the internal SDcard successfully using the instructions (thank you), because at the time I didn't have a micro SDcard. Now I do.
Should I re-install everything (CWM and VEGAn) to the SDcard or leave the card available for something else?
If I leave the installations on the internal SDcard, what will the micro SDcard be used for?

Has anybody had any problems losing data on the external card? I'm installing some movies on a 16G external card, and I've lost the data several times now.
It appears to lose the data when I mount/unmount the internal card for PC access (i.e. when I cable to my computer for file transfer). It seems something in the mount/unmount of the internal card corrupts the external card. I suppose a workaround would be to always remove the external card before cabling, but I shouldn't have to do that, should I?
I'm running VEGAn B5.1 if it matters.

I have loaded a bunch of apps on my machine, and am no where near using up the internal memory, so I keep all the apps there. The one thing I am not doing right now is connecting to my work exchange server. I get a lot of email attachments from that channel, so I may use the external card as storage for email attachments, but I do not really need to do that right now.

I use a Patriot 32Gb Class 10 haven't had any issues to date.

USB, probably not. I don't know for sure, but probably the limitation will be FAT32. I'm not aware of gTab has NTFS modules, so that's probably going to be the limit for USB, or perhaps there is a 48bit addressing built into the hardware/kernel, then approx 137GB is a limit. Maybe somebody could try to hook up a harddrive into USB and see. But as for the SD card, there is an SD spec.
SD max limit = 4GB
SDHC max limit = 32GB
SDXC max limit = 2TB
generally speaking while there is a 4GB SD card, the implementation of 4GB SD card is spotty at best and some require you to have certain format to work, otherwise the card sometime fail to read/write. So, you won't see much of it, 2GB SD usually be the norm. As far as SDXC goes, it's fairly new, some SDHC controller do support it, but many don't. The pin for all of them are the same so they are backward compatible. I would generally avoid choosing random 4GB SD or 32GB SDHC. Do your research extensively on those card otherwise they may not work w/ your device.

16 internal 32 external minimum 64gb best IT says that in the manual on line. Right now 64gbSDHC are not being made. The manufactures have reserved that for SDHX. I rooted mine to ClocWork and TNT lite added a class 10 32gb SDHC. Have also formatted a Seagate 500GB GO Flex HDD usb 2.0 to Fat 32 496 GB and I load my Movies that are converted to mpeg 3 so I can carry it to work on slow days. I did all this because the stock rom/root kept dropping files and losing apps. I attached a full size media keyboard from Dell that has 2 Usb ports and it works fine also. Mouse did not. It is all carried in a case with a keyboard I got from Amazon. I just LOVE IT.

I'm not using a 16gb but I'm using an 8gb card. It has to be the best thing I've bought for my Touch PRO yet. I have (most of) my music, (a few) movies, and TomTom all on one card.
A 16gb card would be a great investment though.

The 8gb that comes with the HD is only class 2.

The classes of SD card are the minimum write speeds that the card will maintain. Basically comes down to 2MB/s, 4MB/s and 6MB/s. There are some details specified for how to measure this, but they aren't of much concern to the user.
The maximum read speed of the card may be different (likely). Both read and write speed will also depend on the device.
In short, you will notice the faster write speeds if you transfer music or films. I haven't noticed any problems when watching videos using my class 2 card, but can see the difference when copying from my PC to the cards.

That i did not know, i always used my class 6 due to not knowing for sure if it would cause issues or not. (Had the 8 gig on my hermes).
I guess then if HTC themselves issue a class 2 then looks like i am wrong then, and maybe worth doing the upgrade myself.

I used a free program to create an image of my 8gb card before I switched to a 16gb. You can get it here: http://www.runtime.org/driveimage-xml.htm
All my programs worked fine and my phone never knew I switch to the 16gb.
I am using a 16GB Sandisk with no problems.
Works just fine.
Copying speed to the disk is OK for me.
I am using a 16gb Sandisk with absolutely no problems. I watch movies; listen to music/audio books run large maps for GPS etc. In fact, if an application will install on the SD card I do so. I do not see any lag or delays whatsoever. The only thing is I am running out of space I need to upgrade to a 32gb when they become available

I've been using a Nokia 16Gb cars for a while now, and no problems. It's a class 2 card and I haven't noticed any difference in the behaviour of the device since I put it in.

I think the best method is to copy the contents of your current microSD to a new directory on your PC hard drive then copy all of the files from the new directory over to the new SD card. It doesn't hurt to make a backup of your SD from time to time.
sorry for taking a slight detour, but doesn anyone know when/if the 32gb cards are coming out? i've been holding off the 16gb and waiting for the 32gb one and i'm getting impatient

The "Ultra" tag refers to their class of cards that have 30MB/second read speed (unk. what the write speed is). Sandisk also has an "Extreme Pro" class of cards that have 95MB/second read speed, but the largest "Extreme Pro" in micro SDXC is currently 16gb. If you shop hard, you can find the 64gb "Ultra" SDXC card for less than $60 currently.
It's been previously reported that Razr supports SDXC cards, including 64gb (see this thread).
For anyone who might buy one, a word of caution. Put it in your Razr and format it there first before trying to use it on your PC. I'm not sure whether I received a defective card, or I somehow ruined my card by trying to format it to FAT32 on a Windows machine (using Paragon Partition Manager). I spent hours screwing with it before giving up and returning it to the seller.
I have the same 32gb version in my razr right now and it runs great. I assume the 64gb one wouldn't be any different.
Got mine for $23 on Amazon. Couldn't pass it up for that price.

It depends...
Is your USB adapter USB 2.0?
I typically use the SD Card slot with the adapter provided with the micro SD card.
USB for transfer unless you have a good adapter can be slower.
I use one 32gb class 10, works fine.

Have you tried a HD 1080p recording on your 32gb class 10 card ? , if yes - did you find any difference when you tried the same recording on a class 4 ( assuming 30 fps and standard cache)?
Got my one for a few weeks, phone has never been so slow.
Not faulty (tested the card multiple times) - anyone else having issues? I feel like I have a Galaxy S1. Just weird behaviour - Swype takes forever for k/b to appear, winamp takes forever for thumbnails for albums to appear - just apalling performance from my phone.

Try this... format the SD card from ur phone... increase the cache size of the card and give it a try..

I couldn't mount it or format it. My RAZR kept saying it was damaged. So, I formatted it in my PC first and all is well.
If you're under Windows XP, you'll need to have a program to do this. I used EaseUS Partition Master which you can get for free at http://download.cnet.com/EaseUS-Partition-Master-Home-Edition/3000-2248_4-10863346.html.
So far, the card works great and it's nice to have more room for DLC and songs.

You can simply put it in the phone. No need to do anything beforehand. If it requires you to format, the phone will tell you to do so.
I've given up completely on trying to get this to work in my phone. The phone will recognize it as 64GB, but will freeze up on numerous occasions even if I'm not accessing it. Does no one else have the freezing issue? Running Flick 5.0 Tornado

2. What is my benefit besides being able to use custom roms (If I wanted), allowing my nandroid backups via CWM to flash to the memory card, and few other things I can't think of offhand. (Medicine does that to you LOL)

I have the Samsung 64gb card and I left it at exFAT, I have no issues with the card.
I did switch to TWRP since it reads the card just fine.
I have done several backups and restores with no issues.
I have also flashed a couple of roms.

1. I never worry about that crap. I just back my card up every once and a while.
2. EVERYTHING can read fat32.
3. EVERYTHING can read fat32.
4. Yes. It went from 0 to 100% working with CWM. That's an infinite increase.
It's like this...unless you are going to load high bit rate 1080p mkv movies onto your phone then watch them on a ridiculous 5" screen, then reformat to fat32 and USE the card you already paid for instead of worrying about a card you might have to pay for if this one fails.
My card is on the way. I will probably use use Cwm and format as fat32.

I have the same Sandisk card as you. I changed mine from exFAT to FAT32 because I was having the problem where the card would be reported as damaged once or twice a day. It would say something like "SD card damaged, try reformatting." I could clear the error by either rebooting the phone or unmounting/remounting the card, and all the data seemed to be intact. But it was annoying so I reformatted it to FAT32 about 3 or 4 days ago to see if it would help. Since then, the card has not reported as damaged again, but I have seen it unmount/remount by itself a couple of times.
So instead of messing with it any more, I decided to order the Samsung card, since lots of people are saying it seems to work better in this phone. Newegg has it for $59.99 plus an additional $9 off promo code. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147220
I have used the 65GB card both ways:
-extFAT
-FAT32
The only problems I ran into was with my Debian box. I use Debian as my daily driver, and the extFAT was not recognized. There are ways to add support for extFAT for Debian, but I just formatted it to FAT32 instead and have been using it that way ever since.
Sometimes, on my Windows 8 box, if I try to format it with Windows, it will format it to 32GB. I then have to go into Linux to reformat it to 64GB. Havent looked too much into it, but just an FYI.
Speed-wise though, I have not noticed any difference at all in speeds.

My question is if i buy a 128 gig sd card will it work on my phone or will it only work partially on my phone? well, officially the phone supports only 32GB sd cards, which are originally formated in NTFS. any bigger card withth NTFS will not work at all. however, if you format a bigger card to FAT32 (older), you can use it just fine, with only a few drawbacks (i don't know the exact numbers but the file size is somehow restricted, i think to 4GB or so, and also the number of items in root folder is limited). i cannot guarantee that it works with any sd card, but my 64GB kingston micro sd xc class 10 runns without any issues, with all 64000MB usable.

Samsung evo mini sd working too, I tested FAT32. No need more than 4gb in 1 file.

Since i want to use mine as internal storage, i want to be certain that it will work
I am between samsung (the new red pro ones,20mb/sec) and the new toshiba excesior ones (30mb/sec write, 2016 model).
Anyone had any luck with these?
Should they be ntfs formatted when inserted in the tablet?

i tested some different sd cards twoe 64 gb class 10 cards (samsung and lexar), they are verry slow for me. So i decided to buy a sandisk microSD extreme Pro with 64 gb but hab no luck with it, because the card was dead on arrival. So i went to my tech store and by a 128gb Sandisk Ultra, an now i'm fine with it. Fast reading speed (44mb/s) and solid write speed (23mb/s). All in all its ok and the tablet runs verry well with it. I run on Android 7 nougat and use the SD as internal storage.

I used Memento EXpert 128GB from memorette. I tested it out on PC, make a full read/ write to make sure it has got full capacity and then insert into the tablet. One interesting thing is the tablet recognized the card as Lexar Media (which is quite reputable). I formatted it as the internal storage.
So far, apart from heating up during game-plays, it is quite stable.

I had issues with mine set up as internal storage after i went past 128GB of data on it. went back to my Samsung 128GB Pro microSDXC and worked like a champ. the 256 works well as external storage. I did notice longer boot times with the more data i added to the micro sd card. i opted to stay away from internal storage for now.

But i use my 256GO like internal storage with latest update original rom...and all are running normally:good:
