I just went from captivate to atrix about 3 days ago. Its alot better and louder. I noticed that the captivate was not very loud in the earpiece. the speaker is much louder also. definitely better.

I had a captivate as well and I'd say reception is better and the voice of the person on the other side is WAY more full sounding. On the cappy voices sounded kinda hollow to me at least on JK4 modem. So far coming from Paragon 6 to The Atrix rooted with DG's rom I'm regretting nothing. The GPS actually works, it plays calls through my car stereo when plugged on (Cappy just got that), Better pixle density (lower contrast vs SAMOLED though) but an acceptable trade off. Build is kinda plasticy vs the metal backed cappy, but I'm not worried about it. LED flash, FF camera (Don't think I know anyone who's used one).
So yea I'm happy with cappy to Atrix upgrade, I feel like I have a fully functional phone where as on the Cappy everything almost needed to be hacked to make it work like it was suppose to. Oh and as far as speed 1.4 OC vs stock atrix, atrix destroys the cappy hands down.....unless you do a bandwidth test then obviously the hacked cappy isn't limited on upload.
Hope that helps ya!

Coming from aa iphone 4 its a pretty good improvement. In a spot that normally got 0 signal I get 1-2 bars and completely fine voice/4G
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App

I'm also coming from an iPhone 4 and in a spot at my school where my iPhone had 0 bar's, this grabs a consistent 2-3 (more on the 3 side than 2). Great reception but I expect nothing less from Motorola.

So far I find it quite better, coming from a N1. I can definately hear the other side a lot clearer, and have been told I sound better

and is there any issues with the death grip?

Few... so Motorola is still making phones with good reception and call quality. Like nokia's. The minimum a phone should do, what most phone makers seem to forget these days.

The problem with using the number of bars to compare signal strength between different phones is the algorithm used to determine the number of bars is not universal across phones. You really need another measure such as signal to noise or something like that. The bars are a logrithmic scale but not universal across phones. There was a great article on this when apple changed the way IOS determined the number of bars for strength. I will try and find the article and post it here.

Signal is great! Much better than iPhonelol.

[Q] Did anyone make the move from the Bionic?

I'm irritated with the Bionic and wanted to know if anyone jumped to the Razr. If so, how are the initial impressions and was it worth the switch?

I did, and so far it was an awesome decision. Battery life seems to be better (was running Th3ory's ROM on my Bionic) so far, the RAZR is SO MUCH thinner and lighter, and the screen is amazing. I have only had it since Thursday, so that may change, but so far it was a great switch.
I did.
I was still in my 30 day remorse period with Best Buy so I just swapped the Bionic for the Razr.
screen is better (but not as bright as Bionic)
overall faster
design is sleek and overall, amazing
takes faster pics
much better FFC
...pretty much what we thought, better overall device

Has Motorola acknowledged this issue? I'm sure people have reported this, but is there a good possibility of a firmware OTA to fix this?
I did too. All around better phone. Power is much better managed. Screen is amazing.
The only downside is the speaker, even cranked up, is not as powerful as Bionics. My 2 cents.

idk, my bro got the bionic for a penny on Amazon (lucky bastard!) and I compared my razor to it, mine sounds louder when we played the same audio tracks and notification sounds. I think the bionic has a better quality speaker, just not as loud

they have stated an OTA will be pushed for the Bionic to fix issues with it...the timeline on it is very hazy (as usual) first they said middle of this month then said it was still in testing.
point is: don't put a phone on the shelves (Razr) if one with mostly identical hardware is having issues unless you know those issues are cleared up...in the razr (at least mine) they are not.
I'm not ripping Moto, they will fix it. It's just annoying. No phone is perfect out of the box
I like the Razr better. Was a having a little lag on the lock screen on the Razr, but a restart cleared that up. Speaker is much louder on navigation. I like that. I was worried about the screen quality from some of the reviews, but I am not disappointed. I have had a few data drops where the Bionic would hold, but nothing major. Overall happier with the Razr.
I made the switch from the Bionic and am very happy! The Bionic I had suffered terribly from the random 'power back on after turning it off' and BSOD syndromes. The Razr so far does not exhibit these issues. Battery life is pretty good for what's inside. Love to amaze friends and colleagues with the thinness of the device. It's feather light (that's what really sold me).
I'm waiting on Seidio or some other mfr. to produce a decent quality holster. The one that VZW sells is the same old cross hatch design that I'm simply not a fan of. I prefer the Droid X type where one large clip holds the phone in the holster.. Simply flip it out when I need it as opposed to struggling to slide it out of VZW's design.
I was within my 90 return period at Costco (Along with six people behind me ) so I quickly dumped the Bionic. I would lose all data two to three times a day and sometimes even the ability to place or receive a call. (3g to 4G). That and the fact that they pumped this beast out so soon was enough for me.
Love how light and then this phone is. Screen is much better as well,

mini review

just got the phone yesterday after waking up and noticing a cracked LCD on my fascinate (damn budweiser)
anyway, i wanted to put out a little more user experiance on the forum for someone possibly interested in this device, this is my first HTC device ive owned
right away, the screen resolution blows me away, there is zero pixilation and even though it is not AMOLED like my fascinate it represents the colors perfectly
the phones size and weight is, to me, great it actually feels sturdy and the backing of the phone really contours to your hand
unless you wear your sisters pants, having it in my pocket felt no different than my much slimmer fascinate, and even better than a droid X
the headphones supplied are great, they fit perfectly after changing them up a little the beats audio makes the sound slightly louder and less flat, with much more bass, overall i enjoy it even though i do not listen to any rap/electronic music
one problem ive had so far with the headphones is the left one gives me a TON of static and seems defective, when i exchange it i will post my results again
battery life so far isnt bad, right now im at 60% and 5 hrs on battery, after using wifi 4g texting calling and music playing, again its only day 1 on a full charge so ill keep up with that but for a "4g battery sucking device" i have no complaints (as of now)
the GPS locks instantly as compared to 20+ minutes on my fascinate, and the radio has yet to goto 1x service
4g speeds are around 10 - 15 mbps and my wifi is around 12 - 17 mbps
compared to my fascinates .8 and 7 respectively
im still considering swapping it for a nexus however, but overall im enjoying it
i just wanted to give some more information on a potential buyer, hope it helps some ppl
back to battlefield 3 =D

Skyrocket to Note users.

What's your opinion of the phone since there's a lot of you out there?
1. What do you think about the size?
2. Is it just as fast?
3. Does it have the Bluetooth issue that the skyrocket has?
4. Headset hiss that the skyrocket has?
5. Call quality?
6. Battery life better or worse?

I would like to know this also. Right now I am deciding between the Skyrocket, Infuse or the Note. My current phone is a HTC Tilt 2 and I am assuming all three of these will be a huge upgrade.

1. Love the size of the Note, but it is NOT a one handed phone for all functions, keep that in mind.
2. It's just as fast maybe feels a bit faster than the SR.
3. Never had bluetooth issues with the SR and haven't used BT on the Note yet.
4. Waiting on my new headphones to use the feature so can't speak to that.
5. Call quality is better than the SR, the ear piece is clear and the speaker is way better.
6. Battery life is about the same so far for me.

1. It's definitely not a one-hander, but very worth it for the screen. Just be aware that you won't be doing any one-hand texting unless you have some freakishly big hands. You can't even reach the notification bar easily. That being said, it's a small price to pay for a high-rez, large, Super AMOLED screen.
2. There is some noticeable lag over my SR. I think it has to do with the higher resolution dragging on the resources, but I have also noticed general slowdowns running apps. Last night, I had to do a clear memory to get everything running smoothly again. Never had to do that on my SR.
3. I had no BT issues with my SR. So far, I have noticed none with this device.
4. I don't use wired headsets, but I haven't noticed any hissing in my Jawbone.
5. Battery life is definitely better. I can easily get through a whole day with this without worrying. Yesterday, I barely used it and it only lost 25% in 13 hours. That's pretty good even for idle drain. With heavy use, I can easily do 10 hours or more.
Overall, I'm happy. In the past, I preferred smaller phones because they were easier to handle and use with one hand. Then I bought the SR and loved it. I came into possession of my Note only a month after getting the SR and I must say that I was surprised at how little the size bothered me. It's a little awkward to take photos with and I bought a new BT headset for calls, but I have no complaints otherwise. It fits well in my pocket and I barely know it's there. It's definitely not a tablet replacement for me, but it's a much better phone than I anticipated.
Came from Skyrocket and like it just as good. Skyrocket was easier to handle and has a jump on Dev. But as others have said the screen blows everything away. Stylist is actually fun. So far get way better battery on Note even comparing custom to Stock. If you can handle the Size its great.
Another factor I switch to the Note because of is the Skyrocket HD coming out. I switch phones alot and with that around the corner it probably will cause the price of Skyrocket to drop when released. I was in my first 30 days so switching to Note gives me the ability to possibly swith to Skyrocket HD even up possibly if I decided to go that route.

I just made the switch yesterday from the Skyrocket (which I had for two months) to the ATT G Note. Here are my initial impressions:
1. I originally moved from the iPhone 4 to the Skyrocket - and the change in size took some getting used to. For the first two weeks, I went between loving the size and hating it. One handed operation was difficult while I learned how to properly grip the phone. After a couple of weeks, I no longer found the one handed operation a problem. I found ways of holding it that made it usable. I then began to love the screen size and covetted a even larger size. Thats what drew me to the note. The switch from the Skyrocket to the Note feels like it will be a similar transition. I'll tell you, at points yesterday and today, I've wondered if I made the wrong decision. I can just barely type with one hand. It requires me to keep my fingers flat behind the phone, I can't really grip it while I reach with my thumb. For hand size comparison, I'm 6'1 with average size hands. I can just barely palm a basketball with significant effort. I think that, over time, I'll get more comfortable with it. Hoping for the keyboard from the international that lets you position a smaller keyboard to one side for easier reach.
Pocketability - so far, no problem. I've tried standard abercrombie boot fit jeans, abercrombie straight skinny jeans, express producer dress pants, adidas workout pants, and adidas workout shorts. All front pocket, all fine. Size 32 x 34. I will say that it is more noticeable than the Skyrocket - more because of the added weight than the size. In my workout shorts/pants, it bangs around against my leg more when I walk. I can sit down fine with the phone in my pocket - just a bit bigger feeling than the skyrocket. I'll say that the phone feels like it wants to slip out of my dress pants pockets today and did so in the car when I sat down.
2. Exactly the same speed as the skyrocket. I do find that the stock browser is even faster/smoother - not sure why. It almost seems to have better hardware acceleration. With that said, Dolphin is way laggier than on the Skyrocket. Very strange.
3. Not sure of the issues you're referring to. I didn't have issues with my Skyrocket's bluetooth and haven't with the Note yet.
4. Don't use a headset. Though my car's bluetooth, no hiss.
5. Call quality is the same as the skyrocket.
6. Battery - Only a day and a half of having the phone...can't judge yet. Based on the initial draining, I've found it to be better than the skyrocket.
Screen - big, bright, beautiful. With that said, the pentile matrix is noticeable to me. It is almost as if someone put a very fine mesh made of tiny tiny sub-pixel circles, laid it on top of the super high res screen, sprayed a gray color over the mesh, then removed the mesh leaving microscopic dark specs within each pixel. Not sure if that makes sense. Result - tiny text and pictures look better on the Note where pixelation is more noticeable on the skyrocket. Medium to large text and pictures seem to look better on the skyrocket because of the samoled plus.
Reception - same as skyrocket.
Finish - I tried out an ATT reps carbon blue note and noticed that the back was completely scratched up. It seems that the textured finish on that version scratches very easily so beware. The white is the same gloss plastic as the skyrocket which, based on my use, seems to hold up pretty well.
Sound/Speaker - same as skyrocket.
Roms - none yet. Miss Sky Ice Cream Sandwich from the Skyrocket already.
S Pen - novelty to me. Will get as much use as something like Siri would for me on the iPhone. Pens have been replaced by keyboards for a reason - they are faster. Just as speaking has been replaced by typing - it is more private and more efficient. I did try it out...requires a pretty hard press on the screen to write...harder than expected. Pretty accurate though. Reminds me of my first windows pocket pc honestly.
Hope this helps.
1. Its huge, but not out of control huge. Def not a one hander, but well worth the upgrade.
2. It is just as fast, but I do feel some slowdowns every now and then. I think once I stop farting around with it and start normal use, that will go away though.
3. Voice dialing works out of the box via BT. No NT issues for me at all (hated the BT on the SR... made me want to throw it at a wall for sucking so badly
4. No headset hiss!!!
5. Call quality has been great.
6. Can't comment on battery life. Just got mine yesterday and I'm still in "new toy" mode
made the switch and still have my rocket......size is no problem. and i can actually do one handed texting, just have to reach a lil for the for left of the screen(slows me down on that part) but the size is nice.
speed wise, personally its just as fast stock to stock. i do notice lil hickups here and there usually dealing with animations or heavy text messaging threads. like if i have a text convo of over 100 messages and have 16 pictures sent in that message....it will pause slightly in the transition when opening that conversation. i didnt see that much on the rocket. but other than that the brousing seems to be a bit smoother/faster.
dont use bluetooth so i dont know.
dont use headsets so i dont know about the hiss either
battery has been great for me....i looking at it now 10 hours 5 min of batter use and im at 55%. with moderate use. some games, texting, word docs, downloading, and calls.
i have to say im not mad i got it and prefer it over my rocket.
Pluses over the SR
Screen (size and quality is amazing)
BT works right
Battery Life is slightly better
call quality
Minuses
Size (but not bad)
Slightly laggier
Dev for now

I am debating which one real hard. The Note will cost me $250 where the Skyrocket will cost me $100. These cost are through Amazon. I am going to an AT&T store tomorrow to actually hold them in my hands.
Display is better on the note.
I havent noticed any screen lag.. I use adw ex launcher.
Signal strength on the note seems to be better.
Network speed seems equal.
I have had no bluetooth issues with the note, plus you can make voice calls via bluetooth... Yay
Battery seems to be about the same.

I can say that the screen is amazing. I have bad eyesight and can now use a phone without having to use my reading glasses. Battery life to me is epic compared to the SR. I could get through a half a day on my SR. Currently, after 10 hours and 2 minutes, I am at 34% battery. This is on my first drain. That is well, epic to me.
Call quality is stronger. I maintained a conversation today where every other AT&T phone drops. Speaker is ridiculously loud. Overall, it is huge. I mean frigging huge. It is a conversation piece I can say that. So far, in one day. Six people stopped me to look at it. One guy at best buy stood there for three minutes while I finished a phone call then asked to see it. It was hilarious. Take the leap. You won't regret it.
Look at it this way. It will do everything the SR will do. The SR can't do what it does.
Skyrocket doesnt lag as much. Lol just saying.
Best phone I've owned to date. The size of the phone is perfect, and im not a large man by any stretch (5ft 10 180lbs). Call quality/sound is better than the skyrocket and the battery life is the same imo. The screen and s pen makes this the clear choice between the two.

From my experience definitely DON'T go with the Infuse...the screen is perfect BUT GPS problems, battery suspect, minimum ROM support (NOte: ZEUS ROM makes the Infuse very usable), etc.
So, you are left w/2 choices...Skyrocket or Note? I've never held the Skyrocket so can't comment, I own an AT&T Note and can see myself sticking with it for 2 years...it's awesome if you can adjust to the size (not much of a problem for myself).

If the size seems bearable at all, go with the note. You will definitely get used to it, and it will be much more future proof.
The screen is better, and you will enjoy the S Pen even if you don't use it that much. I'm sure once custom ROMs start being released that the battery will be better as well. Also, the Note utilizes GLONASS satellites for GPS location making it better than a majority of phones out there.
With new phones coming out, the Skyrocket combined with the bullcrap of ATT, will be pushed to the back for updates to ICS in the future.
Yes, you would save $150, but I think that you will be happier in the long run with the Note.

I am having the same issue. I used to get full bars with my sgs 1. But now in the sam areas, im getting like 2 to 3 bars. But i have yet to experience a dropped call nor data disconnection. And the cell standby in battery usage is really high. I wonder if its a software bug.
+1
Same issue here. My HOX and 4s have much better reception.. I'm gettting around -100 dBm which from memory was same as the iphone 4 death grip territory. I'm hoping its just a faulty handset and not the S3 in general. Doesnt seem to be a wide spread issue though, I've read plenty of people saying their reception and call quality is the nest they've ever had. This is encouraging. I've created a thread about it here. Feel free to post your dBm results. Anything around -100dBm and above is not good (in areas where you've had better reception on other handsets in the past). I held a HOX side by side on the same network and it's reception was around 20dBm stronger.
Yep. See: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1690297
I'm dropping signal when I hold the phone and cover the right side, from fu to none .

How is the LGOG as a phone?

I've read all the goodies on how fast the phone is and what not, but I'm wondering how well it performs as a phone? Does it pull in a signal well? Is it able to make calls where other phones couldn't, or drops calls where other phones would hold? For reference, I'm coming from an Atrix 4G

I had read some of the same reviews where they said the phone was less than stellar from a call quality pov on ATT. I've had this a week and all the calls I have made sound perfectly fine. I think it really depends on the signal quality from ATT. The background noise suppression works really well in my car while on bluetooth - my wife really noticed how much easier it was to hear me (coming from a Captivate).

I've had the phone for just over 2 weeks. I too came from the atrix 4G. Call quality is completely standard, nothing to write home about but compared to the atrix I get a much stronger signal in locations where it was previously spotty and I haven't had any dropped calls yet.

Yeah and it gets worse the smaller the room is. Worse is probably a bad word for it. I think it just need a little fine tuning.
Call quality is not great and speaker is not loud enough. I have an iphone 5 and Lumia 920 as well, the Lumia has the best call quality of all the three and Optimus G is the worst.
I dunno call quality is fine on mine. No better or worse then my last couple phones.

I found the same thing when the phone isn't on my desk facing up. I think they did this because the speaker is severely hampered when face up on a flat surface. So to combat this, they upped the volume to compensate.
Coming from a gs2, signal stregnth is not only faster but stronger too. Didn't make any long enough phonecalls to judge audio quality but I know from playing videos that the external speaker is kind of weak

I ended up getting one on Saturday. My experiences are it's been just fine. It holds calls where I'd expect. Things sound fine on my end and haven't really heard any complaints from the person I'm talking to.
I think it works fine, as good or better than the inspire. I'm rooted and unlocked and have used volume plus for years, and at plus 10 its pretty loud. Speakerphone is very loud. I'm impressed with the volume its capable of pushing when it's not constrained by "hearing protection" limitations, although I look forward to aosp so I can figure out how to lower the minimum speaker phone volume and vastly increase the resolution of the phone volume selection

I came from an inspire as well and I feel that this a huge upgrade, not just a better version. My inspire was rooted and running viper Rom and as soon as I got this phone I found myself getting annoyed by how slow the inspire felt. It was there years old so I do give it some credit, but the lgog is just such a great phone all around. I'd get it over any other phone, especially if Amazon still has it listed as 99.99 because any best buy will match it.
