[DroidSSHd] Free(No price and No Ads) SSHD server on Android - Defy Themes and Apps

I just tested it on my ME525(Defy in China).
As a linux admin, I'm always looking for something can help me to login to my phone from my laptop. After some google search and testing on dropbear, SSHDroid, but dropbear is not working out, and I cannot get SSHDroid, and also, I don't like Ad.
Finally, I found this one: DroidSSHd on google code.
ht tp://code.google.com/p/droidsshd/
Although I didn't get me logged in successfully ( authentication passed, but connection closed by my phone, I'm asking the reason on their website ) , but I must say: this is a awesome app on android, and if anyone of you can have a try and succeed, that would be great!

SSHDroid, works like a charm:
ht tps://market.android.com/details?id=berserker.android.apps.sshdroid&feature=search_result

SSHDroid won't run if you have a modified hosts file. This is purportedly to prevent it from running on systems that have ads blocked, but also locks out anyone who has modified their hosts file without ad blocking.
I would have bought the pro version if the developer hadn't been a prick about it. Now I'll be sure to avoid anything he wries.

what's your setting?

Tried sshdroid to but I got no ads app had to switch to quicksshd the paid version works like a charm : )

Me too, QuickSSHd, based on OSS dropbear sshd and actively maintained,
http://teslacoilsw.com/quicksshd
cause droidsshd left unmaintained, missing sftp lib and sshdroid seems no longer maintained according to dev's website http://berserkerdevel.blogspot.com/
Hmm... not sure...
sshdroid:

June 30, 2011
What has he updated, the ads code or security patches for ssh?
No changelog.
Ah, sorry, no ads code in the pro version.

Then they should have missed some security patches?
No changelog.

Ok, lets see if sshfs works with the free sshdroid version...
Yes, have just done remote virus scanning of the marvel wildfire s over WLAN:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16219792#post16219792
This sshd is worth buying.

I need a ckean dropbear install with sftp. I ripped it from sshdroid but now I am stuck with the fact that dropbear is statically linked to SFTP in /data/data/berserker.android.apps.sshdroidpro/dropbear/
Does anybody have a clean dropbox with sftp for me that does not have this drawback. I really hate having files spread alover the place and for now I had to solve this with a symlink in the formentioned location.

[APP] VPN Server on Android Device?

I'm looking to run a VPN server on my Android device so that I can set up a virtual network adapter on my PC to connect to the same network as my Android's wifi. I've seen plenty of Android VPN clients, but no server software.
Is there any software out there to run a VPN server on an android device?
I've heard OpenSSH runs an L2/L3 VPN, but I everything I can find on getting OpenSSH running on Android is all about ftp, and they usually wind up running an alternative. Is there a release of OpenSSH I can use on android for the purpose stated?
Thanks for your patience and support,

I've ssh into my droid phone without a problem using SSHDroid. I'm also looking for how to setup a vpn server(vpnd) on the same droid phone. It might make it simpler for some work I do that requires access to the static ip address I have at home.
I may go with the following solution instead. blog.gidley.co.uk/2009/03/tunnelling-ssh-over-socks-proxy.html
If you're still looking, we just released Servers Ultimate from which the latest update (today) allows you also to run a VPN Server!
Have a look at the thread and let me know what you think of it! You do need a rooted ARM device to get it working (most devices are arm and if you think about a vpn server you're probably also rooted )

i want some help in building an adblock app. I need to intercept all requests using vpn to local a vpn server.

[APP][4.0.3+ & GB][XPOSED] UnbelovedHosts

Xposed hosts blocker.
This app blocks host names of advertising, malware, spam, phone-home etc sites. You could import "hosts"-files by given urls.
With this app you have no more to alter the /etc/hosts file on the system partition, which was also a problem on some devices (eg Nexus 7) because changes where reverted after reboot.
Technical:
Name resolution request are answered with "No address associated with the hostname". This is even better than a common hosts file with redirects to 127.0.0.1, because no connection attemp follows. For logging of hostnames is no tcpdump needed!
Browser:
If you want to block content of websites, you have to use a browser app which does not tunnels everything through a proxy! This is because the proxy does also the name resolution. Negative examples I found: Google Chrome does not work.
UPDATE: XDA described how to use Chrome: DNS-based Ad Blockers are broken on latest Chrome versions, so here’s a fix
I'm using Dolphin with Jetpack, which works fine for me. Some more info in post #47. Opera Mobile Classic works also, see post #389
If you want to use Firefox you need Network Preferences Add-on, see hint of @ag43 here: post #297 - OR just open website "about:config" and delete content of "[network.]proxy.http", see hint of @TheClownDE here: post #483
This app will NOT be release in the Play Store because of Google's policy. Other apps like AdAway or AdFree where removed in the past... But you could anyway donate in the Play Store and/or on my website.
Limitiation:
No support of native querying binaries.
Donation:
You support this app!
Some hosts file import/export/sharing options
Logging of not denied host names
Blacklist/Whitelist/Patterns (Regex)
Timed download: 150 minutes after reboot, then every 4 days
Permissions:
RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED: set timer for download
ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE: download only via W-Lan
INTERNET: downloading of files
WAKE_LOCK: don't sleep while dl/import
EXTERNAL_STORAGE: export/import files
This app connects only to the websites you see for downloading hosts files!
Important:
This app needs the Xposed Framework. The framework requires root access for installation. Don't forget to enable the module in Xposed. You can grab it here: Xposed Installer

So, whats the difference between this and AdAway ?
So your adblocker app got ads? I'll need to donate in order to remove the ad?
That sounds funny

Hehe, if you want is say this way, Yes.
If you look at the screenshot with logfiles, you could see FolderSync, Feed+ and Smart AppLock. They all are pro/donate/premium versions...
And I think it is okay to get more features which are not really needed, but nice

How about GB support @defim ?
Opening settings seem to crash the app
Tryin to get into settings gets me a FC. Also weren't the adblocker removed also from xposed few weeks back as the dev said something like it's going against the devs, practically taking a possibility to earn any money for their free apps?

Have you a logcat of the fc?
In fact this is not a add-blocker, it blocks hostnames. And as you can see on the screenshot at the OP, in my case most of them are tracking sites
Btw, my 1st app had admob included. Was a big §%"$, not got any cent by it because no one touches adds...
Another thoughts: All "free" apps should be removed from Play Store, because nobody gets non-free ones

Buddy don't get me wrong I do not wanna start even to argue about it. I was in adds in marketing in my previous job. And my stance is to allow ad blockers as to in my case it's beneficial to the company with the ads as well. I never ever bought anything cuz or from an ad..they loose money if I click basically.... But this is a discussion for somewhere else.
Just wanted to give you a headsup that this might be an issue so you might get ready for some explanations.
Sent from my LG-D802 using Tapatalk
@PAGOT: Thanks, FC fixed. It appeared only in english version because of malformed strings.xml - did not show in with my language settings.
Adblocker: Yea, another place would be better to discuss. As i used modified /etc/hosts before, this app makes depending add/tracker/malwar etc companies no difference.
The app on xposed was removed by the developer itself, because he decided it so
Is there a way to add host sources to the main screen? (so I can update them by pressing them)
I've found a way to add the lists from sources but it doesn't save them so I have to copy the link and updating it this way make it very laborious.
@Blizzard22: Soon
Is rover.ebay blocked? Some host files block that site and it breaks important ebay email links.
If you are blocking anything rover.eBay please remove
Sent from my SGH-I337M using Tapatalk
When the unbelovedhosts module is active you cannot start the official chromecast app. It constantly force closes on starting it.
Looks good no issues yet please could you add the mother of all adblocking host to your list thanks in advance

@defim
I tried the app and its pretty cool! But somehow the website I'm visiting with firefox are not listed in the log, why? Btw.
would be possible to add IPs / hosts directly from the log to the blacklist? Or at least to make it copy & paste-able.
It doesnt work for me. Adaway also stopped working for me sometime ago... Dunno why.

[MOD]PeerBlock For Android - NEW

PeerBlock is now available in the Google Play Store! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.peerblock_new
For anyone who is having the first version of PeerBlock For Android, I lost my certificate key by accident and was not able to update the first one I've uploaded.
Please install this version if you want it more updated with a lot of bug fixes.
Some features might not work yet as it's still Work in Progress but the basic functionality is working.
PeerBlock For Android lets you control who your phone 'talks to' on the Internet.
By selecting appropriate lists of 'known bad' computers, you can block communication with advertising or spyware oriented servers,
computers monitoring your p2p activities, computers which have been 'hacked', even entire countries!
They can't get in to your phone, and your phone won't try to send them anything either.
And best of all, it's free!
Keep in mind that I'm not a member of the PeerBlock team, I just wanted PeerBlock for phone
You're able to grab the lists from iblocklist.com so you can start blocking those evil hosts
To add lists to PeerBlock create a new directory in the root of the sdcard (not external sdcard)
Called 'PeerBlockLists' here should be all the text files
Everytime you added a new/updated list to your PeerBlockLists please press the 'Rebuild cache blocklist' and reboot so that new hosts can be blocked
Running a Firewall? or no internet ?
Be sure you enable Input Chains and WiFi rules for PeerBlock for Android even if PeerBlock for Android does not use the internet or WiFi.
The internet permission is being used to inter process communication with the apps and service to see if a connection should be allowed or blocked.
WARNING:
Root is required for XPosed to be installed
Use at your own risk!
WORK IN PROGRESS. WILL EAT YOUR CAT.
Features:
Block million of hosts (upto billions)
Add unlimited amount of block lists
Allow HTTP/HTTPS Traffic when PeerBlock is enabled, this will make a security hole though so better if u keep it off
Block All Traffic (Paranoid Mode) every single application in android will not have internet
Block DNS - Block DNS Requests
Block the 'Ad' Keyword in host names to give a better success rate for blocking ad's
Have a history list of every application that connected to a host
Block a hostname/subnet/ip address from the history
No internet leaks at startup!
Show a notification when a connection is being blocked.
Show a notification when a new connection is being established.
If people wonder if this also works for the Galaxy Note3... yes it does I'm having one myself
How To use
1. Install XPosed Framework
2. Install PeerBlock For Android
3. Create a directory in the sdcard called "PeerBlock"
3. Create a directory in the PeerBlock directory a directory called called "PeerBlockLists"
4. Go into XPosed Framework Installer and enable "PeerBlock For Android"
5. Reboot your device
6. Now go to the website iblocklist.com
7. Take any list you wish for example, http://www.iblocklist.com/list.php?list=bt_ads
8. Press the Update button to download the list (or copy the Update URL into your browser to download it)
9. Now simply copy/paste the .txt file into the sdcard in the folder PeerBlockLists
10. Go to the main menu and hit the "Rebuild cache blocklist" button
11. Reboot your device and enjoy
New features in 1.04:
PeerBlock For Android is now using a Service to have it more stable and if the service is not running no app can communicate with the outside world.
More stability
Re-designed UI
Strange behaviour is fixed which people noticed
Quite a few bug fixes which people reported
Fixed most app crashes
Designed my own database format
Less format errors in rebuilding the cache list
@DragonHunt3r can we get gingerbread support plz?

You can replace AdAway with this or keep it side by side, it's your call really as AdAway is using the Hosts file and PeerBlock For Android is not using the hosts file

Hi Friend, where have you been? Long time no see on xda....I must say you were missed I know many fellas were disturbed with your app....so much so that they got old thread locked....but if it gives you any satisfaction I have been always using your app....though I missed your to do list....which I am sure now that you are back.....you can work upon
HTML:
Todo's
Check if UDP is getting blocked
Remove space used by Ad's
Add MAC-Address filter white/black lists
Show notifications (if enabled)
Making the Ip Range check multi-core
Create a blacklist/whitelist for apps to allow internet
Blocklist updater/downloader
Create a whitelist for hosts/Ip Addresses
Root-Mode with IpTables (I will not remove XPosed from the project)
Remove host from blocked hosts
A popup window which shows allow/deny for establishing a connection
that YOLO problem is yes definitely there...can you please remove....though I understand that your app wasn't using any permission even if it would I had DMZs (double checks) in place to get rid of any unwanted outgoing requests....even for PeerBlock....anyways back to the point....Your to do list was great....you should complete that :good:
Also, ask forum moderator to unlock that original thread as you are back in business
can you please post the link?

[Search] no root adblock without vpn

my problem is that i have a non rooted phone with vpn always on and im searching for an app to activating ad block on it.
My fix for it would be to use an android wide proxy or a custom dns that overrides vpn dns.
as title said an root app or an app that provides vpn solution wouldnt be what im searching for. I had once an adblock app that routes traffic trough local proxy beside the vpn but cant find it anymore
Update: i found AdHell but its only for Samsung Devices with knox. Any other solutions?

any news on this one?
I wanna use protonVPN and adblcoker at same time
a bit of elbow grease to protect self from Privacy Raping
Some [open]vpn clients allow vpn side connection to Socks5. Some even allow toggle of LAN access from device. I am not claiming a finish product exists but perhaps this gives you some joy.
Perhaps your socks5 instance runs in Amazon AWS free tier. Maybe it runs locally on your android handset. Perhaps you run Privoxy itself on android. [@mod: privoxy is F/OSS older than this forum]. There are a few privoxy projects for android on github. Perhaps you pick their brain. It was that against which proxomitron competed [also F/OSS. Thank God for Scott Lemmon].
Using things in differing order you might search the article to which I may not link: Privoxy on Android (with EC2 VPN)
I wanted to bring the Amazon EC2-based Privoxy service to it, by way of a VPN.

There was no obvious way to contact the author who hasn't posted since 2016.
There is an OpenVPN service you can likely find the name of yourself offering *recently* an adblock toggle and AntiTracker toggle with a hardcode mode to protect you from predators like google and Fbook. It shouldn't be long before others emulate this functionality. It sports the vpn side socks5 option.
Or privoxy tunnel to remote [cloud (openvpn)]. See? Fun with permutations. Maybe from phone with ShadowSocks to cloud to vpn to web. "OpenVPN over shadowsocks". At this point look into sites helping Chinese dissidents.
You definitely then return here with your improvements to share.
The remaining question is how much is your time worth? Not much? Then search the web ad naseum for the 'ideal free' solution. Elsewise pony up some pennies for some cloud time as part of a solution.
Same question here !
And it seems that adhell is now only available for entreprise use
Wasn't AdGuard doing that?
yes you are right. it works with setting a private dns in the system settings with dns.adguard.com - no batterydrain - no more ads - no vpn - no root

How to block in-app trackers?

I am searching for options how to block android in-app trackers.
Which trackers are used in specific app can be checked here: https://reports.exodus-privacy.eu.org/en/
For example:
https://reports.exodus-privacy.eu.org/en/reports/com.nordvpn.android/latest/
App NordVPN uses 5 trackers (Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager,...).
How is it possible to block these trackers on Android 9? In a browser with add-ons like uBlock Origin it is an easy job. Is it possible to do the same with Android applications?
- I was looking at adblocking apps like AdAway, which uses hosts file... Can I use this host file to block trackers used in apps?
- I was also looking at XprivacyLua, but it needs Xposed framewors, which does not work (yet) on Android 9.
- Do you know any other tool?
- Or is the only option to find alternative?
Using: Mido device, LineageOS 16 for MicroG (based on Android 9 Pie).
Thank you for help and greetings!
If someone else needs it, I got a lot of help in this AdAway thread, page 1413, 1414: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2190753&page=1413

So one option seems to be just adding domains to AdAway blocklist.
To do so:
zgfg said:
As pointed by the other user, you didn't list FQDNs but package names - with AdAway you cannot blacklist/whitelist some apps, only FQDNs (domains)
For AdAway you must have root, hence you can check from the logcat which domains were resolved by DNS and which TCP connections were established while your app is running.
Then add suspicious domains to your AdAway blacklist, restart the phone and test again, and analyze the log again if you still see the ads

Nobody needs an AD-Blocker app: all one has to do is to keep Android's system file /system/etc/hosts up-to-date. To edit this file root access is required.
