has anyone else had this happen? - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I installed the drivers in windows vista provided in the walkthrough thread, but odin will not see the phone. I'm using my desktop, this combination worked flawlessly on my windows 7 laptop, RIP.

A few things
First off, make sure you're in download mode (get to via holding the volume down button while turning on the phone), and not Recovery
Try a different USB cable (the official one if you're not using it already)
Try a different port on your computer
Try reinstalling the drivers
Repeat the above several times if need be. It seems like the phone has trouble connecting to the computer for a lot of people.

one thing I hadn't considered is not the micro usb cable, but the EXTENSION cable I was using. be sure only to use the micro usb cable when using odin. thanks, your post made me think of that.

Download pdanet to your windows, and it will come with samsung drivers, worked great for me

the drivers weren't the problem. as my previous post said, it was the extension cable I used, not the drivers.

I always use the usb that came with the phone-- I didn't think it made a difference but does for our fascinate and DX

[Q] symptoms of a bad USB cable?

My phone recognizes that it's plugged into the laptop, but my laptop never sees the phone. I can't connect Odin, or even see the memory card. I've installed the correct drivers many times now. Is this symptomatic of a bad cable? I would think that if the cable was bad the phone wouldn't recognize the computer either, but I'm new to this.
Try to clean your ports and use the og cable with your fascinate.

I always use the original cable that camne with my phone....gonna clean my ports and try again. Never really thought of that; obvious really, now that you mention it.
Are you on a 64 bit Windows? This has been a problem with Odin and Heimdall not recognizing the correcut Samsung USB composite device. You could try uninstalling the drivers, then reinstall them using compatibility mode of XP or something like that if you are using Windows that is.

Two ways to know if it is the cable....
1) try a different cable....they are super cheap
2) try on a different PC and see if that recognizes it

I think I bricked my friends vibrant | HELP

Stuck at Vibrant screen. Cant geet in bootloader or recovery. I have odin, have the .pit and everything but when I go into download mode, Odin nor my computer will recognize the phone... Please help. Thanks!
pull the battery 1st and then replace back in then hold the lower volume key down along with the on button try that or get a jig
U need samsung drivers

Depending on what your friend was running, yes, you need to install the drivers so that when you connect your pc recognizes it. It's not bricked, no worries... keep calm.
I made a post with the drivers, but you would likely find it faster with a quick google search.
sell it for parts on Ebay

re-install driver, change usb cable, etc...
What I've found is that 9/10 its the USB cable when the computer doesn't recognize the device. I'd check it first. Now a better question is what did you do to your friends phone to brick it with out it being plugged to the computer in the first place?

in addition to what you said, sometimes, pluggin it in a different usb works too.
Agreed!
The damn cables suck! Almost 1/2 need to be replaced eventually, and it makes you question the integrity of the device itself. They should make better cables or provide you with 2 when you purchase the phone.

TF201 not recognized by PC?

I just got this tablet a week ago after upgrading from my acer iconia a500 (good tablet, wanted more specs) and i puchased it used from someone. When I plugged it into my computer it would say usb device not recognized when I plug it into my usb 2.0 port, but when I plug it into my usb 3.0 port it would say unknown device. I've looked everywhere for this problem and I still cant find a solution. I tried installing the drivers manually but it would say;
"The inf file you selected does not support this installation"
or when i choose have disk it would say
'the folder you specified doesn't contain a compatible software driver for your device. If the folder contains a driver, make sure it is designed to work with windows for x64-based systems
Ive tried installing asus sync and tried plugging it into my old windows xp computer and still doesnt work.
I have unlocked the bootloader with Asus's tool and my device firmware is 9.4.2.28.. and its not rooted (ics 4.0.3)
I thought this tablet would be amazing, its driving me crazy instead
Did you try the universal drivers pack...??
I did, nothing works
Sounds like a PC issue rather than a TP issue.....you tried on another machine?

I had the same issue, turned out to be a faulty usb cable, bought a new one and everything worked right away. Hope that helps.

Oh ****... Well, have the same issue here too now. It doesn't even make the "plug in" sound on my computer but still can load my tablet with the cable.
Maybe I'll buy a new one too. They are not that expensive.

[Q] Can't mount to PC - Stock 4.0.3

I have a stock Amaze which I bought used. It charges fine through the USB but I can not mount it to my PC.
The PC does not acknowledge the phone at all and the phone does not acknowledge the PC at all, It just begins charging. I asked the previous owner, but he says that he always used a card reader and never tried accessing the phone through the USB port.
Has anyone run into this?

have you tried all of your usb ports.. and also maybe checking to see if you have the htc usb drivers installed.. or if they are upto date.. and about uninstalling all of your usb drivers.. restarting your pc and trying again... or checking if the phone can mount to another computer just to make sure its not your computer..?

I've tried multiple computers and multiple cables including 2 OE HTC cables with the odd end. I've restarted the PCs and the phone. I tried with USB de-bugging both checked and unchecked. I haven't updated any drivers but I did install HTC Sync on one of the computers. I would think that even without the proper drivers, I would at least get an error message but I get nothing.
you need to install the htc usb drivers for the phone to be recognized by your computer.. open device manager and go to usb settings.. plug your phone it to see if it registers on the device manager.. after you installed the htc usb drivers (you don't need htc sync thats for updating and backing up sense)... if anything you can try to factory reset your phone..

I installed installed a driver package that that was named "HTCDriver3.0.0.007". Nothing registers in the device manager when I plug the phone in. I'll try a factory reset tonite and see what happens.
Also, I sent a message to HTC support this morning, but I didn't get a response yet.
Thanks for the help so far. If anybody's got any more ideas or experience with this, I'd love to hear.
dose your computer make any sounds when you connect the phone to it? and where did you get those drivers from? you might want to uninstall them and install the ones that come with hasoon's AIO toolkit.. or get them directly from the htc website

That driver actually did come from hasoon. The only thing available from the HTC site was Sync and a tethering driver, which I tried both.
when you install and uninstall drivers from the computer normally your suppose to restart the computer and the device.. and dose your computer make a sound when you plug your phone in? and does the charging light on the phone come on?

There's no sound from the PC or phone, but the charging light does come on.
if the light comes on the device is connecting to the computer.. if there's no sound the device isn't being recognized by what your plugin it into.. there could be one issue with the usb drivers on the computer and or something wrong with the usb port of the phone.. do you have another phone to connect it to the same cable.. using the same usb port on the pc to see if that phone gets recognized by the computer...? if it does then there's a problem with your phones usb port.. if it doesnt then it might be the cable or the usb port.. do the following un-install all of your usb drivers.. even the htc one.. restart your computer in safe mode with networking and then re-install the drivers and then plug in the phone to test it.. or you can boot the phone into bootloader by removing the battery from the phone then re-inserting it and power on the phone by holding volume down and power till the phone boots up.. go to fastboot and see if the phone recognizes the usb from there...
i still think the main issue here is driver related though.. maybe you have a virus on your computer messing with the drivers or firewall or antivirus or something.. but try the safemode with networking first before anything else...

No luck with safe mode. I just ordered a new OE USB cable. It's hard to believe that I have 2 bad cables, but it was cheap enough. I may try the reset also.

Unfortunately to me it sounds like a messed up usb port in your phone. I have a moto defy that got water in the USB port and same problem now. It charges, but is not recognized by the computer in any way. No matter what computer, drivers installed or not, my amaze is always recognized somehow, when I plug it into a computer.

You're probably right. I would think that if it were connecting I would get some sort of message from either the phone or the PC.

If anyone cares to know, I got a response from HTC. They had me do some tests which I had already done (different cables, different ports, reset the phone), which of course didn't work. They told me to call the service center. The girl I talked to seemed reasonably knowledgeable. She told me that it's very unusual for the port to be bad in such a way that it charges but won't pass data, but that it was not impossible. She checked the serial number and told me that I was on my last day of warranty and if I shipped it that day it would be covered, assuming there is no damage due to owner misuse. So I sent it in.
Assuming they can and do fix it, I'm not sure if they will give me any details as to what was wrong, but I will let everyone know what happened. I saw a few instances online of people having the same issues as me with HTC phones but no one ever seemed to have any solutions.
i'm not shocked that htc wasn't able to help... 75% of the time the people working tech support don't know anything they always read "steps" to fix certain problems from their database... **** i learned so much about computer's from google its not even funny... i don't call tech support unless "google" cant find a solution.. lol

My Amaze has been fixed under warranty and will supposedly be here tomorrow. I doubt HTC will tell me what the problem was, or whether it was a hardware or software issue.
Thanks for all the help. You'll be hearing from me.

Problem in fastboot

hi people, today you acquired equipment and the first thing I did was, to unblock the bootloader, follow all the steps, create account, debug usb, unlock oem and unlock status, in the pc login session miu rather, the problem starts when I connect the device in fastboot mode, the fastboot logo appears, I connect it and after a few seconds, the screen turns black and it tells me press any key to shutdown, change cable, usb on the laptop and the same, someone who asks for help, thank you very much
You need to search the forum on this. This is a frequently asked question. Even I got it when I was going down the road you're on before I found the answer scattered all over the forum.
I had the same problem. For me, what resolved the issue, was using the USB 2.0 port. Poco is very Skippy on using 3.0 ports
And also use Intel PC/Laptop. AMD Ryzen has an issue with Poco.
I'm using an intel powered laptop and USB 2.0 port, but still facing same problem, tried every solution available online, what to do?

Then either you're not using an Intel laptop or you're not using a USB 2.0 port. My bet is on the latter. Try connecting thru an external USB 2.0 hub. That was what worked for me. Even tho the laptop I used was ancient by my SO's standards it still only had USB 3.0 ports.

Well, I'm using GL503GE 16 GIG version, I'll try that hub thing though, cause I'm seeing that a lot on the sites
