solution to the problem of battery, I have !!!!!!! - HD2 Windows Phone 7 Development

after a thousand tests with the battery, I solved the drainage
to do this:
data- off 3g-on
22:30 - 9:00 = 97%
my rom - custom rom russian
my radio - 2.14
I tested with 3g off and off data and : 22:30-9:00 = 68%

Hello !
If this does work, I will love you forever!
After a 5 days with Windows Phone 2007 on my HTC HD2 -- which I absolutely LOVED! (alhtough I was very skeptical at first) -- I had to remove it last night and go back to Windows Mobile 6.5 Exactly because of the Horrible battery drainage.
Can other people also confirm that (cause its a hussle to flash Windows Phone 7 again). Anyone who can confirm I would be grateful!!
thanks again.

What does this mean-- in both cases you had 100% charge?
So you are essentially confirming this (weird) combination of settings is directly related to battery drainage,?

yes, in both cases 100% charge.

Seems like it's not working when we can't pick up 3G, because the battery drain is too important.

I'm a bit confused...
When you turn your data - off, doesn't that mean that u can't synchronize your e-mails and stuff anymore?

prefer to do it manually each and the battery lasts me 2 or three days to do it self every 30 minutes, with this configuration has lasted me 3 days with normal use, I and others will work

Such remedy are not a fix

edited title, what have you tried?? many people with battery drain and do not comment if you work them ??????

I agree with you... If we have that type of phone it's because we need data connection! But if it's confirmed this solution is better than the flight mode i will give it a try this night.

It works for me! Now I have 3-4 Ma battery drain in standby!

no need for that language mate, its only a solution for some people, to be honest turning the phone off is actually a very reasonable suggestion.
Killing data will result in several aspects of your phone not working, given that the point of WP7 is to make it MORE intigrated with our on-line lives it does seem a tad silly to kill off almost everything that makes WP7 to good...but your choice i guess.

I have another best for you, charge the phone every 6 hours, which I will upload every 3 days

the moment is what is, you can not do anything, I have set for people to try and have more battery life, no comments that are left over

Well... A full harged battery wil last for close to 8 minutes...
100% - 8 minutes
X - 1 minute
X = 100/8
X = 12.5 %
i.e. Your battery will drain at a reson of 12.5 m-1
It means that if you want yor phone to be operative for a full work day, i.e. 8 h you will need to have 59 extra batteries.
He he he he. Just kidding
I charged my battery this morning and took it from charge, at 11.30, when it was at 74%. It's now 15.19 and i still have 47%.
Cheers.
I don't get these questions..... I mean,,, is it only i who plugs my phone in every night to charge ???
I charge only twice a week and only like 3 hours on USB (~75% charge), it just happened that my battery improved a lot, maybe because it got older, maybe the v13 ROM or Lumos, I'm not sure but I don't want to risk to ruin it by flashing this lol
V13
I have this rom almost 2 days now and I have to say that battery drains fast and that V13 is at least for now better than V14.
I will downgrade my touch pro again to V13.
Took the phone of the overnight charging at around 08:00 this morning, now it´s almost midnight and the charge is 71%.
I estimate that i have spoken about an hour or so spread over 18 calls.
No issue with drainage this far, im not to fond of the new action soft key but that's another story

[Q]*UPDATE 17.06.2011* Battery (Its not another complain thread)!

I know there are a lot of threads already but bare with me....
A lot of users have been having issues with battery (me inlcuded). These are the following things I have personally tried:
Screen Filter
Freezing Apps in Titanium
Green Power (though I had issues with it not enabling data when screen on)
I have tried VillianRom the CF-Kernel and currently I am on stock K7 and the stock Kernel (rooted using insecure kernel then flashed stock again)(figured that might help since Samsung wouldn't actually sell a phone without testing the battery).
I am not a gamer nor have I been abusing my phone. Today scenario:
(3G/HSPDA always switched on or wifi when available)
Removed phone from charge at 1400 Hours.
Wifi was on till I left home at around 1530 hours during the process I must have barely checked a few messages on Whatsapp and made one phone call. Since then I have been out met a few friends showed off the phone. When I say showed off the phone all I did was this:
Showed the S2 playing a video
Played a song from google music (streaming over 3G)
Used whatsapp for about 10 minutes
Spoke on the phone for a total of 30 minutes
Got back home around 2200 hours and the phone was screaming for attention which I believe on stock is around 15%.
As you can see from above I have hardly used the phone. Now my query is for those users who are not having battery issues. We have had a lot of threads complaining about issues can we just have a brief post from you guys who are having fantastic battery?
Something like:
Firmware
Rom
Kernel
Root Status
Applications Installed/Frozen
Other Steps?
How much juice have you gotten out of it
I think all of this would greatly help. Coz clearly some of us are having problems and some aren't so could we just share the knowledge?
Sorry for my rambling but I wanted to explain all of it as clearly as I could. Instead of starting another thread as to WHAT CAN I DO!?
Cheers.

[UPDATE]
I read this in one of the countless threads regarding battery life and android OS eating away battery. Still in the testing phase but it seems this might be a genuine solution as well :
Format your SDCARD. I know sounds stupid but like I mentioned earlier I am still testing this out. Most of us if not all have shifted from our old android to the Galaxy S II. The probability that this might have been without a format to save pictures or some sort of data is most likely. Once again this *might* help. The title hence states update and not *FIX*.

+1 to the list man ... my battery is **** compared to others here ...
i'm currently running :
VR1.1 with some tweaks (included arabic patch from madmack)
CF-Root Kernel 3.7
froze everything samsung related (hubs, AP news, launcher, wifi sharing, ... etc)
after all this mods and stuff i barely got 21h from it with a very very light usage .. now on standby my phone dropped from 100% to 90% in almost 4 hours of nothing
hope this problem get solved with 2.3.4 update

Hope that helps you

Firmware & Rom: I don't know the difference between firmware and rom, so I'll put this: Baseband - I9100BUKE1
Kernel: OEM 2.6.35.7-I9100BUKE1-CL182896
Root Status: No
Applications Installed/Frozen: None
Other Steps? : Wifi on most of the day, 3G off unless necessary. GPS off Screen brightness: auto
How much juice have you gotten out of it: 4 hours of screen on time, or 24 hours of light use. Usually 16 hours of 3.5-4 hours of screen time.
I hope this helps. Ah not to mention, I have had this phone for 5 days now, and I haven't had ANY Samsung apps show up.
Here is an image of my list of services, but I must say, I unplugged it last night at 10 PM, and left it mostly alone until this morning. That's why my screen usage is so low. In other threads i've posted a lot higher screen on time . But it's just to show you that on KE1 there is no Samsung services going rogue.
One step forward two steps back while charging!
I had the bizarre issue last night where my S2 was losing power while it was charging. Only app running was Words with Friends (checked cpu usage and seemed ok) and I had Screen Filter running at 60%
Phone was near dead by 9pm even though I had topped it up during 2x 30min drives. Was playing Words against 4 family members (all on their iPhones) and I had to give up trying to play while huddled on the floor by the socket as it slowly dropped percent by percent lower.
Not Happy!
KE7 btw
I had a ****ty battery life too but then after reading some tips how to improve it, I froze wifi sharing in Titanium Backup and disabled Google Latitude (not sure which one did the trick but if I had to choose, I guess Latitude was the issue since Maps was always showing up in Battery usage) and now my battery life is perfect. Before my phone would die after like 8 hours and now 24 hours is no problem . I hope the new firmware will fix Latitude but until then, battery life > Latitude. I'm on VillainRom 1.1 and CF-Root 3.7 btw.
ActiveSync
I had an activesync account which really chewed on my battery, had only about 12 hours battery life. After removing the activesync account it lasts at least 40 hours!
i have mobile internet on 24/7, everything syncs every hour, if i dont touch my phone all day, it drops from 100% to 90% from 8am to 4pm....I use my phone for music most of the day for music, txting ect, easily has over 50% by end of the day...cant understand why so many people have problems!

Battery is always the problem and it will hinder the development of smartphone or other PDAs. Maybe we should get nuclear battery
Always turn 'mobile data' off when you are not using your phone. I travel a lot with work and can tell a huge difference in battery life depending on where I am. If you leave 'mobile data' on where 3G service is bad, your battery will drain fast.
Firmware - Default KE2
Baseband - I9100XXKDJ
Kernel - 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKE2-CL187606, [email protected] #2
Other - 3G connection, no 3G packet data, no WiFi, no GPS, looking at the time from time to time, screen brightness either small or auto
I have none of the problems mentioned by others (like display banding, tint, unstable WiFi, the pink camera spot is small), if this makes a difference.
(By the way, the number within the battery compartment says i9100H)
I get about 11% battery discharge per 24 hours

Whichever way you swing it, Android battery life ain't that great... i'm coming from a Nokia phone which had 7-10 days per charge.
S2 is my first Android phone it's stock unrooted, Optus Australia version. With 100% wifi on, I get 9 1/2hrs out of box, 19-20hrs with Juice Defender free and 52hrs with XP8000

Haven't flashed it yet as phone is only 10 days old, so giving it sometime and probably wait for 2.3.4 to come out. I know KE7 is meant to give me better battery life, so may do the update or wait for 2.3.4.
My advice just get an external battery pack. My Energizer XP8000 will give me 2-5hrs extra S2 battery run time per 1hr on the charge (basically every 1hr 25-30% charged). So if you're away from home or at work, plug in XP8000 for 1hr and give the S2 a 2-5hr top up charge. But probably quicker to charge on S2 AC adaptor as USB = ~450mah and AC = ~650mah. So on AC every 1hr on charge = 40% top up on S2 battery life.
The added bonus of XP8000 is it has tips for 1000s of devices, so i can use it for my Acer 3810T notebook too which gets 10hrs itself and XP8000 can give it an extra 4 1/2hrs on top.
One thing I notice is I'm getting better battery life after each successive charge, with Juice Defender free started out around 17-19hrs, then 19-20hrs and now 23-26hrs. Been charging off XP800 @450mah for past 4 charges maybe it conditions battery batter than AC @650mah ?

A phone and a PDA (so called smartphone) are two different animals.
I forgot to say that my 3 years old HTC Polaris (with Windows Mobile 6 and a 2.8 inch LCD display) had about 12-14% battery discharge in the same conditions (but the battery was smaller, like 1300 mAh). Just for comparison for those who believe that Android is at fault.

Please check your battery usage info in the settings. There is a very well known bug related to Wifi Sharing eating your battery, even if you did not enable Wifi Sharing.
If your phone gets hot, and battery drains very quickly (in 1-2 hours), this is most probably related to the Wifi Sharing bug.
You can freeze wifi sharing if you have a rooted device, or you will need to check your battery usage info from time to time(mostly when you feel your phone becomes hot even when it stays in your pocket) and force stop Wifi sharing if it starts to show up.
Hope this helps
If this is not the case with you, I do not have a clue

This is the "Question & Answers" section and is the correct place for this thread. The Development forum is for people releasing development work and should not be used to ask questions. The reason you can't post in there till you have 10 posts is in the hope that you'll understand what the forums are for by the time you can post in there.
When you can, please don't post questions in the development forum.

Was just an example. If I dial any mmi code, will get a message like: "mmi code invalid or inserted wrong".
Am I right that the new custom 2.3.4 ROM (Villain, Darky...) are not using a 2.3.4 Kernel only the 2.3.4 firmware and radio? So this might not improve battery life significantly since it is still an old Kernel.
The battery drain bug could therefore only be solved with a 2.3.4 Kernel.
I am new to Android, so are my assumptions right?

I was using LiteningRom for a couple of weeks and when I saw 2.3.4, I tried to update ROM asap. But I couldn't even flash it with Odin as the whole process freezes in the middle...
Few hours later, I achieved installing a 2.3.4 ROM (Infusion) and I'm on it since yesterday. As far as I can see, there's absolutely nothing better in battery management : AOS is still in top of battery usage after moderate usage.
With my SGS, 2.3.4 had solved battery drain, it seems with SGSII it's not the same. But as Schindler33 said, maybe it's because of the kernel.
Wait for the official firmware to come out over kiss and then we can all see if battery life is improved.
Yep, it seems the leaked version is really NOT a final one ^_^
Hope the final will solve this battery drain

I could, but that will be a project when I'm done with the WinMo 6.5 radios

Man, excelent idea.
All this testing will lead you to nowhere. There is no perfect radios for HD2 which works best for all HD2 hardware types. There is no radio which work good in all modes 2g and 3g(GSM or UMTS)(standby battery life i mean) without camera trick.
Non of this WP radios made specificaly for HD2.
Everything was already tested and proven - best WP radio 5.51 or 5.51T.
Hardware radio 2.10, 2.12, 2.14 or 2.15 - everybody should try himself - very dependent on hardware of particular phone - several modification of hardware exist and for one 2.10 or 2.12 is the best but for some 2.15
Just only if you have absolutly nothing to do - just for fun test it.
Even testing conditions different even in same place.

And there really was no other way to write this? You dont have to read and comment on everything you see on XDA... At least show some appreciation for the effort?
If have best (constant) battery life with the 2.15 radio. Going for 15 hours now and 51% left.
The main draining issue for me is when the cell signal is not good. The phone will drain with a good 5-8 % in half an hour. For the rest it works ok and i can pull a good 24 hours out of it (no camera trick by the way)

Sorry for posting the truth. I promise not to post anything on HD2 WP7 anymore, even promise not to view threads here anymore. I am serious.
Sorry KrewsialNL but zcdg is right...phone to phone functionlity of radios differs.
For me 2.15 is good, i got 4 to 9 mA drain
IsaacJ, is it possible for you to update the test results with 2G/3G reception? Also did you stay on the same place when the tests occurred. I think that your tests at least can give an indication for Tele2 users in Sweden.
Sent from my HD2 using Board Express
If some guy is atleast taking the pains to go ahead and test all the Radios manually sacrificing his time..at least thank him instead of showing your negative comments saying "it will lead us nowhere" cos so does your comments.

Thanks for your support
I knew there would be quite some ranting about this thread, even though there are BIG discussions about it in several ROM threads
And I'll begin to test the WP7 radios very soon
Regards
Very nice thread, this will come very handy, thank you.

Therefore, you don't have to start slashing something if the TS clearly is using a lot of time and effort to try this out and provide his feedback. It's not like he's asking questions that are being asked a gazillion time on the forums..
