Desperate for help: display dead zone - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Guys, i really need help... Well my phone got a problem... first day using it, and im almost sure i will have an HARD time to exchange, since the seller is a pain, and i bought from internet
there is a small area, above the samsung logo and under the square buttons (contact, message, etc) that dont get touchs. about the "phone" "message" letters, you can see it here :

Well, i searched on the net, and on this forum and got no sucess. i know it seens to be an hardware problem, but at least im asking him, if it could be any kind of software issue, kernell, etc, i really dont know how the amoled display works.
The fact is that i spent all my money, that i took a lot of time to earn, on this phone, that was my dream, and know, on my first day, is becoming my nightmare. any sugestions of what i should try? if worth trying to install custom stuff?
Any help would be apreciated... it seens to be a small area, but just some things thant dont work :
on horizontal : u cant type "dot"
on vertical: cant scroll back the status bar when its down, cant click on "now playing" in music player
All this can be avoided turning the phone, but man, i paid a lot in it...

well, now trying swype, it seens it cant reach the far botton end, where the "dot" is. the screen doesnt seen to be dislocated anyway.. any ideas? please=/

no one had a similar issue, that cant tell me anything except changing phone would fix? im downloading JFD to see i can get something?
maybe kernell, something?

It sounds like the digitizer isn't working properly.

im searching for a screen aligment utility, it could fix my entire problem in a second... if i could move the screen about 2 milimeters up, it would "fix" the entire problem

If you used your credit card to buy it call your bank now and say the seller conducted fraud. Try your hardest to get the payment not to go thru.
I am assuming you bought it used?

i bought in a ebay-like shopping, there isnt mutch i can do, the seller was very honest until now, so i think i will ending get money, or other phone (unfortunaly not an galaxy s, since this was the only he had, and was the phone i wanted all the time)
so what i wish right now, that would avoid me a LOT of headache, was some way to bipass this.
since i dont use swype, using samsung keypad solves another problem. the bar problem isnt mutch anoying, since you can click return to make it go up, well, if the worst happen, and i dont get the money back, i think i will manage to live with it

seens im screwed

There is a chance you could get it exchanged through Samsung. I've heard of people still being able to do that even though they bought it offline. That or, someone correct me if I'm wrong, if you have the good phone insurance through T-Mo, they should be able to replace it. These are just things I've read, so I could be wrong

will give it a try, thanks

[Q] Found a P500, wanna return it but it's pin locked

I found a P500 (I think) this morning lying on the side of the road. Probably fell out of someone's pocket. The battery and back were lying next to it. At first I didn't think much of it and just walked past. Then I realized I'd rather return it before someone else finds it and keeps it. I know losing your phone + contacts really sucks.
So I have a P500 right here and I wanna return it. To do that, I will need to get into the phone and call a few contacts. Unfortunately, the phone requires a PIN. This is probably not a phone issue and more of a SIM issue, but is there a hack to get into the phone without entering the PIN? Or perhaps just find the Google account that is linked to it so I can e-mail the person?
Edit: friend just pointed out that I could just put my sim in the phone. It works and I have the e-mail address. Thanks!
If I ever loose my phone I hope you find it!

Graphic error in google maps and minecraft

Not sure when I noticed it but I cant figure out how to fix it. Its on almost all roms I run, could something be wrong with my phone? Might of started around the 1.22 update, but i was running PKMN at the time, and switched to MeanROM 2.1. Im now on Viper4G and the issue still there, its mainly in maps and minecraft, don't notice it in any other apps or games.
On Google Maps, the street names and sometimes location error dont appear right, they stretch as if italic font is being used and switches back, alternating streets and such. In minecraft the background, buttons, or certain objects like blocks or mountains flicker in and out.

I feel alone in this issue...
Swyped on my EVO LTE
My first EVO 4G LTE (recieved in early June) had Google Maps flickering so badly that I returned the phone! Sprint thought it was probably a hardware problem.
I took a video of it before I returned it:

The new phone has never done it.

It looks like that on mine also (Google Maps)
Edit: On second glance, some streets are twisted (so is the font) but yours looks like Italics on even the straight streets. Is that a custom font? Because:
Be careful with custom fonts too, if any apps call on Roboto.tff they can look a little unaligned. - zmag

no custom fonts, it was on both PKMN Rom, MeanROM and Viper4G. I do wonder if its a hardware issue.. i but im S-off, i would hate to loose it, just in case it ever ment anything lol
In the end it was a broken phone. Not even sprint tech knew what to do with it. I got my phone replaced but now I am not S-Off

its not all bad, you still can run custom roms and kernels and flash the majority of tweaks and updates. just not firmware but thats not much issue. Some one did notice that if you use that full back up program listed somewhere around here, you can backup first, without root, and when you restore, the stuff saying you messed with the phone is gone lol not sure about the tampered or unlocked messages though

[Q] where to start ?

Hi i think my S2 is falling behind in updates so i consider installing a custom rom, i just dont know where to start ?
Can anybody help me ?
What do i need to know ?
Wich rom to choose ?
There is no "best rom" so try to google or look at forums to see the one that suit you the most.
If you need light one then try Slim Bean or if u need a lot of options go for CM10.
There is a lot roms so you need to find the one u like the most. Most of them are great, its just what u like/need.
Try reading this thread before starting and make sure you are confident in what you are doing.

You should probably buy a usb jig, find out where your nearest j-tag center is(for future reference), and a mb is about £100 if your out of warranty.
1.yes
2.almost everything
3.take your pick

Well if others can do it, i can too
There is just so much to read, maybe i didnt have to read it all
Almost every person who has busted their phone to one extent or another on here lately (and there has been quite a few) did so because they thought 'There is just so much to read, maybe i didnt have to read it all'.
The likelihood of you borking your phone increases exponentially depending on how little you read/learn/understand. Take your time, don't do anything to your phone unless you understand exactly what you're trying to do to it.

Thats right, you dont need to read it all.Because of the popularity of the phone, loads of threads have 1000s of posts-so for now just read the first few of the ones you need.
And in this forum, you find almost everything covered each week and it just like a bootloop the following week (same crap different people).
So read a few guides about odin/cwm/roms/kernel/efs/nand backup/brickbug/bootloop etc.
And look through the problems here.Youll find the solutions posted which will increase your knowlege.
Some people know so much about brick bug....they became experts by having their devices bricked because of that bug.

[Ask] Install Custom ROM for Galaxy S III 'Look-a-Like' (Made in China)

To be honest, this is my first time experience with fake phone. But the first time I look, i thought it was real.
So, my friend bought Samsung Galaxy S III in china. She bought with a very cheap price, about $200. I thougt she can get that very low price because pass tax or black market. I already suspicious when im setting that phone, and i found many chinese app with chinese write, and cannot be uninstall. So i just disable it. I thought it using chinese firmware. Its menu on setting also different from other S3. There is no S-Voice on this phone. When im trying to connect with Samsung Kies, it not Detected.
And when im open the backlid, it surprised me. Here's the picture :

And theese are some screenshot I took
Setting menu
Chinese app
Phone Info
China really good at cloning something. IMPOSIBRU !!
And my friend give me authorities to do whatever with this phone, because she cant use skype and some apps. She still dont know yet that this phone is fake.
And my question is :
It is possible to change its ROM to a custom ROM ? Maybe use Rom that using same kernel?
If theres no possibilites, I will put my hands up and give this back to her, and laugh.
I guess the phone will have different hardware, kernel etc., hence it will be dangerous to try a I9300 rom on it. Give it a try if you don't care that it becomes a brick, otherwise don't do it

you'd most probably brick it. it's like trying to flash a honda pilot dashboard firmware onto a bmw 5 series dashboard firmware. different hardware and software. (even if it's both android, it's hardware wont allow it to work.

Samsung s9+ became very slow, samsung says nothing wrong, how to revert back to A9?

Hi,
Its still under one year warranty from Samsung. Ive traveled 300km to a repair center but they ended up just updating the system software and say there is nothing wrong with the phone. I swear it is so terrible slow that it really pisses me off!
I have nearly used it for a year. Maybe I should sell it, and go for another brand since Samsung has screwed me many times before. Does anyone know if the Pixel 5 is a good phone? Though I heard they will use samsung chips.
At the repair centre they also said it is impossible to revert back to android 9. Is this true? Such a pity, I liked the s9+ very much on android 9 and have bought lots of accesoires.

I've tried a few OTA updates and it did end up making my phone a bit slower. After a complete wipe and flash using Odin, all my problems were gone. I even noticed that apps tended to stay longer in RAM, go figure lol. Probably because I don't have as many apps installed as I used to back before I flashed the phone, that's why it's probably going a lot faster now xD

They already did twice at the Samsung Repair centre and Dynafix. They said all fine.... but its so frigging slow lol
Honestly I dont care about breaking warranty anymore, i just want it working back as it did on A9. Want to revert to android 9 so much. If I sell it I am lucky if only getting 200eur back for it.... with all accesoires I paid like 800 euro (gearvr etc). So its a big loss.... hoping I can get back to android 9 somehow and enjoy the phone again.
