[Q] Toshiba AC100: how to enter PIN code on Android 2.2 + AZERTY? - Folio 100 General

I didn't find a separate forum for the Toshiba AC100 (feel free to move), but as I understand it, this is essentially the same hardware as the Toshiba Folio 100, except that it has no touchscreen but a keyboard. Is this correct?
A couple of days ago there was an update from Toshiba: Android 2.2. After upgrade and reboot, I had to enter my PIN code. I was unable to do this, because the field to enter the PIN just doesn't get focus. If I start the AC100 without SIM card, then I don't have to enter a PIN and the AC100 works as expected.
I called Toshiba about this, and they said that I could just enter the PIN code even though the field doesn't have focus. Which simply isn't true.
I did notice a striking pattern when I researched this problem. Other people with the AC100 had no such problems, but I found one other person with exactly the same issue. I have a Belgian keyboard and he has a French keyboard, and these are both AZERTY. Perhaps you don't know this, but to enter a number on an AZERTY you need to press shift, contrary to the more common USA (QWERTY) or German (QWERTZU) keyboard layouts. I told this to Toshiba support but they simply ignored this information. I suppose because their contact center is in Breda and the Dutchies only have a QWERTY model to test...
Can anyone else confirm this problem? Any suggestions on how I'm able to enter a PIN code?

Workaround for PIN problem + AZERTY keyboard
Writing about a problem seems to help. I'm documenting on this forum for any other AC100 users with the same problem.
Workaround for the PIN problem on AZERTY keyboards:
* Your pc keyboard is probably USB. Unplug it and plug it into your AC100.
* Start the AC100
* Enter the PIN on the USB keyboard
* Go to Settings -> Security -> Set up SIM card lock and disable Lock SIM card
* Turn off the AC100
* Unplug the USB keyboard. You no longer need it.
* Turn on the AC100. You no longer need to enter a PIN.
Next problem to tackle: the touchpad no longer works after upgrade to Android 2.2. But that's food for another topic.

I just wrote a blog post (in Dutch) about my adventures with Toshiba support:
http://amedee.be/froyo-voor-toshiba-ac100-niet-helemaal-vlekkeloos

Hello there!
Good workaround you've made.
Can you help me? I also have an AC100 and it's 3G modem worked fine with Android 2.1. Now that I've upgraded to 2.2 it doesn't see the built in 3g modem. There are no marks of it in the system. No menu entries for the mobile phone feature. Wonder how I could get it up and running because I've bought this device to surf with my SIM card.
Thanks in forward!

[Update 6] Today plugin for dual sim holders

Here it is a Today Screen plugin that allows the display of the IMSI code (or a custom label for it) of the current active Sim. Works for all dual Sim solutions allowing to always know which is the SIM in use.
From my personal experience I prefer the use of simple power on-off solutions because they consume the same amount of energy of a normal SIM. The digital solutions provide a nice STK application but the resource consumption is not acceptable (especially for HTC Hermes). This plugin solve the main problem of the simple power on off Dual Sim holders: knowing which is the active Sim.
Configure your custom labels in the Today option dialog for the specific item (Dual SIM Today).
Update:
Added menu to switch with a single click between the sim (works only for power on off adapter)
Added the operator name associated to the SIM
Some bugs fixed
Update 1:
Added configuration parameter to:
Activate the display of operator name
Define the Sim switch mode: traditionally with a menu or directly with a tap & hold on the today screen (with the stylus or the scroll wheel)
Some bugs fixed
Update 2:
Added an option to disable the switch functionality
Added the capabilty to open the option dialog directly from the today screen
Update 3:
Direct access to the menu with the action button (or scroll wheel) without menu gesture
Fixed bug in the highlight of the plugin
Update 4:
Fixed bugs in the management of option dialog
Update 5:
Show the last switch time
Update 6:
Fixed operator name redraw
@forum users; help me in setting the priority of the enancements; currently they:
. support for Stk adapter
. support for dialin adapter
. check sim (periodically verify that the right sim is active)
. automatic switch based on specific rules
...
If the tool is useful for you feel free to donate something
.

This is sweet! Thanks. Now just need to find a dual sim adapter that is compatible with 3G.
Plugin is brilliant. Ideal for me would be to include it in plugin existing for the Today. I do not understand of programming but I have found this in wiki:
Show Network Operator Name in today screen
Restoring Today Item: WiFi, BT and Phone Connection Status:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Today\Items]Create "Wireless" use Key
"Flags"=dword:00000000
"Options"=dword:00000000
"DLL"="netui.dll"
"Order"=dword:00000000
"Enabled"=dword:00000001
"Type"=dword:00000004
Enable clicking on the today plugin above to open Comm Manager
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ControlPanel\WrlsMgr]Create String Value "Redirect"
"Redirect"= "\Windows\CommManager.exe"
Pardon by my English. I am Spanish. Thanks.

Do you have a link to the dual-sim adapter you are using?

I really do not understand your question. Could you please explain it better? The plugin already shows his interface in the Today screen and can be configured in the standard way. Do you want the plugin show the operator name or some other information?

JPW, I have your same configuration in term of base software (except for Hermes, mine is an Hermes 200) and it works. Did you tried the plugin immediatly after the reset?
In order to understand what happened can you write details of the problem? when does the hermes hang? during installation, configuration, etc? What other software do you have?
Thanks and sorry for the problem.
Is it specific to Hermes somehow, or should it work on any WM5 device?
Can it be used with multi-SIM SIM cards (like 16-in-one), or it is somehow intended only for (some?) dual-SIM adapters?

It is not related to Hermes. It uses standard Windows Mobile APIs. I tested it on Hermes and WM6 (Black 2.0 and 2.5) but it should work on every devices with WM 2003 and up.
The basic plugin should also works for every multi sim card. The functionality to switch the active card is currently working only for power "on off" dual sim card (I'm developing a version that works also for digital dual sim holder).

Hello, Pelargonium
I enclose a photo to you with which I consider that he would be ideal. To integrate the DualSIm Plugin in the Wireless Plugin, since space is saved.
I have a SIMORE GOLD that works perfectly with the TYTN, although the change I have it to do with menu of own dualsim. The one of plugin does not work to me. I hope to help but that to bother, and again, pardon by my english.

I understand your requirement but the component that you mention (netui.dll) is not customizable. Sorry.
Regarding the sim switch functionality of my plugin, I'm developing a version that works also with digital adapter.

Hi, I think you're product is great, just what I've been looking for BUT... I'm afraid to say it doesn't quite work. I have an early dual sim adaptor (cut) that requires the phone to be turned off/on to switch. I'm running it on a Orange M600 (prophet) with Jesterz 2.20 rom. Your switcher switches the phone off OK and then back on... BUT it doesn't register on the network.. just gives me a "!" next to the little signal icon. It displays the right number for the sim and all just doesn't fully re-establish the signal. I have also loaded a WM5 version of WIVIT sim switcher (from this group) but as it doesn't allow me to define my own number it's no good. However, when I have WIVIT loaded and on screen, YOUR product works fine.
I would rather just use your product. Any clues on how I might be able to fix this?
Thanks
Dave.

@qdavhen, I tested the plugin only on Hermes with different WM6 Rom, because I don't have other devices. let me test it on the WM5 sdk emulator and I'll give you a feedback.
Thanks Pelargonium,
I've found that after running your program if I go into phone options and select "Find Network" then the phone starts again. I've been doing some digging around and *think* it might have something to do with needing to wait longer between switching off and then back on again... hope this helps.

Fixed and updated the first post. I've also added the name of the current operator. Please try it and give me a feedback.
Thanks
Pelargonium.
Pelargonium,
Works a treat! Thanks! A couple of small changes that would make this perfect... you have added the operator (eg. O2-UK - 123456789) I would suggest removing the minus sign AFTER the operator and just leave a space. Also rather than tapping and holding and then selecting "switch sim" is it possible to have it switch sim automatically when tapping and holding? These are just small things. Otherwise it is fantastic! Dave.

WM6 on SDA II - sucess, minor issues

Hello,
yesterday I quite successfully installed WM6 on my German SDA II. I used the 1010 ROM form this Thread: WM6 for SPV 550 and it was quite effortless. I had to restart mtty for a couple of times but finally it worked and the phone wasn't bricked. Greatest obstacle during the installation phase was to change the language from Chinese to English.
The phone works well, but since I bought it just yesterday I can't compare the OS to the previous one. To me it seems OK.
Until now I encountered some problems while using the phone:
First there is no Java included in the ROM, so I had to install and modify IBM's J9 (had a minor vribra issue with that).
Secondly, I cannot access voice commands, the phone just doesn't do anything.
And finally, t9 annoys me while writing messages. On my other smartphone, a Wm2003SE device, I can use the *-key to cycle through all input modes. This doesn't work with the 1010 ROM, instead it shows me a list of symbols in between which is annoying when you (at least try to) use correct upper and lower case writing.
Regards,
Dirk
Has anyone a solution for the t9 issue? That's a thing that really bugs me.
Dirk
read read read, it was be many times .....
Don't misunderstand me: I have t9. But on my WM2003 phone I was used to cycle through the options (abc/Abc/ABC/123/t9/T9/T9) by pressing the *-key. This still works for abc and so on but I cannot switch from t9 to T9 because then the same list of Symbols like on the #-key appears, meaning that I have to close the list, hit the key again.
Dirk
just hold "*" for the list ?
I was confused by the list. But now I just realized that I have to hit * once more, the list will go away and everything works as expected.
I also talked to the friend of whom I bought the phone and he tells me that it now works *much* faster; e. g. the camera took a while to start, now it's just a blink of the eye.
cu,
Dirk

Problem with calendar topic

Hi,
I'm wondering if this is a common problem and if there's a fix for it? Or maybe the solution is something simple that I've missed
When making new calendar entry, the topic will only take numbers when using phone keypad. Everything works as it should be when typing with qwerty keyboard.
Are you sure you didn't just switched to numeric input mode (hold the */T9 button)? Because it's working fine on my S740.
It appears that the user had installed some unofficial language package that broke this. Hard reset fixed the problem
Thank you anyway.

Titan and bluetooth keyboard connection?

Hi,
I have an HTC Titan and a microsoft mobile bluetooth keyboard 6000.
I cannot get the keyboard and phone connected.
The Titan does recognize the keyboard, and when I try to couple them together the recognition fails, because I cannot access the code from the keyboard.
Normally on other smartphones a random code is given which I have to type on the keyboard and then submit using enter. Every number entered is dotted to verify a key is typed. This time the htc Titan asks for a code. unfortunately the keyboard does not have a screen, so I do not know the number. Also making up a randon numer on the phone and vice versa on the keyboard also doesn't work. I think this is a bug.
Does anyone know a solution or fix for this problem?
Thanks.
Problem seems to be that an HID profile is not supported with bluetooth on the HTC Titan, according to HTC.
Does anyone know a fix, workaround or third party solution to this issue?
Thanks.
Bluetooth can be used for the handsfree only.WP7 not supported bluetooth keyboard etc
It isnt supported
When you pair the 6000 with the Titan, if it was supported you would enter a code like 00000 on the phone and press pair, and then on the keyboard press 00000 and <ENTER> on the keyboard. After you do this you see that the phone says it is not supported.
This is something WP7 should really enable, I have not heard plans yet to add this feature in. I hope it does as the Titan has an awesome screen and would be perfect for this.
glad I read this before buying a Bluetooth keyboard this Saturday. Shame. Because they are half price at my local store.
I contacted HTC, they will look into it.
There's nothing to look into. WP7 does not support BT keyboard or mouse.

[Q] Pairing Bluetooth Keyboard ICS

I'm trying to pair my bluetooth keyboard, which worked perfectly under Gingerbread, but will not pair under ICS. Basically, the keyboard will not go into pairing mode until I give it a pin, and ICS won't give me the pin until the keyboard is pairing. Is there any way to tell ICS what pin to expect before trying to pair? This is the sequence I am doing:
1. Put keyboard in discoverable mode.
2. Select the keyboard in the bluetooth menu.
3. Type in a pin on the keyboard and hit enter.
4. A dialog comes up on the tablet telling me what pin to use to pair. (I have to type in the pin in the keyboard for this to come up)
5. Pairing fails after about 1/4 of a second.
Anyone I have the same thing. Get a pop up for a quarter of a second that has a pin but I can't enter it or even read it and then fail.
Please been looking for a solution for a while.
HP Touchpad CM9 4.03
I've downgraded to cyanogenmod 7, and am purchasing a case with a built in keyboard that hopefully does not share the issue. I think these are the only two options.
Bluetooth keyboard in ics
Hi all, I hope I'm in the right area, I have android ics, when I go to pair a Bluetooth keyboard, I put the keyboard into pairing mode and then search on the phone. The phone finds the keyboard and sais please enter the pin code on the keyboard, and press enter, wichita I do and the message on the phone disappears and the keyboard seems to be pairs, but when you look at the keyboard the pairing light is still flashing. The keyboard works great on my partners...dare I say it iPad, but I can not get it to work in ics. I've tried blueinput, blue keyboard jp ,but neither of these program's seem to help. The can see the keyboard but don't seem to connect to them. Any help would be appreciated. To me it seems as tho the keyboard is not receiving an acceptance message from the phone to say connected.

I would venture to say this is a device specific issue. I'd recommend going to the forum for your particular device and replying to a six month old post there that is vaguely related to your issue.
I have looked through the forums, and havnt found anything that helps. I have tried different programs and possible fixes. To no avail. I have a generic phone with ics so rooting may not b an option. One thing i have noticed is ics automatically generates a bluetooth access key. Is there a way to change this to manually choose or enter a pass key. I think this may be part of my problem. Or possibly fix the issue i have. Any thoughts.
