FM Radio standalaone app, modded - Defy Themes and Apps

Hi folks !
== modded APP for FM radio on the defy ==
The FM radio of the Defy, only work with the "ConnectedMusicPlayer"...
There's not a single FM app on the market.
AFAIK that's because of the lack of API. or closed source of motorola's API.
based on excellent droid2 radio hack by "slayher".
this app from slayher works out-of-the-box.
The added-value of my version is that it will work even in flight-mode, and without headset.
of course, expect crappy reception without headset . put a metal wire or some stuff on the jack !
And I don't understand why FM is disallowed in flight mode, when WiFi is allowed ... that beats me ....
the new app is modded with apktool, signed with "Auto-sign" from "Dave Da illest" so i bet it is not official signing
should work on other moto/FM phones too.
yip
XDA is awesone ! can't have done anything w/o the hackers here !
no warranty, this app could damage your phone and (more probably) bug because I'm not a skilled hacker and made a dirty hack.

Reciving without antenna quality is really bad. Catches signal almost only "from hands".

yep, it is bad, but if you stick some metal stuff on the jack it is way better.
Also you can turn the phone around, the position of phone is important for receiving quality, especially without antenna.
I did this because in rare occasions, I would have like to listen radio ( forgot the headset ) and could have managed a home-made antenna, or I was in a area with good reception.
I hate it when you know it should work, but the limit is the software.
the "flight'mode" feature is perhaps more useful. that was a nonsense to prevent it. FM is a receiver-only...

Does not work for me. Still wants the headset plugged in, either it doesnt start
Edit:
After rebooting it is working.
So, thank you for sharing

U should delete original app/apk first, seems like this one was not installed.

Hi,
How do I delete the original apk?
I have android 2.2.1 3.4.2-145
I'm new in andoroid.
thanks

2.2 ? I don't know if it will work. it has been tested on 2.1 only I think.
fedorfl is right, seems like the new app is not installed.
What is your original app ? do you have a defy with ConnectedMusicPlayer or something else?
You might want to backup your original apps somewhere first. These are not available on the market, and not easy to get on internet.

After reboot, works well.
Thanks.

and never worked without the hedset at allllllllll
no sound or anything..till i plug it in
and my house is 500m away fromthe Radio station. still did not work
thanks...

Just one thing left to be done
Hi yipyipyip,
Thanks a lot for your modified version! I like very much the fact that the wired headset is not required anymore. Mainly because if the USB cable is attatched (usual way to have your phone charged whilst listening to FM radio for hours), it is enough to have strong stations sinthonized.
The only thing I miss now is: whenever an A2DP connection is found to be active, all current sound souces (MP3s, notifications, etc.) are routed to it. Would it be possible to have the same behaviour implemented here? I mean, if either the sound is currently being sent to the speakerphone, or through a new button, dedicated to bluetooth headsets, perhaps?
Thanks, anyway.
Regards,
Carlos

Hi,
Really thanks for this app.
the only thing is that ir seems I'm the one who has the app to close (hide and sometimes crash) when I edit one channel's name. And from that time on I can't use that channel anymore.
Do you have the same issues? Can you help me?
Thank you, bye!

flight mode
Great app, thx
But it doesn't work in flight mode

Just found this thread & thought I'd give it a go - works fine on froyo 2.2.2 on the Nordic 3.4.2-177 ROM.
I needed the headset in to get a signal but picked up the stations easily & sound works fine in loudspeaker mode.
Thanks

Can not install on my cm7 beta 6.

is there any way to change the frequencyrange of the app?
there are some stations i'd loke to listen to wich are not covered by the original app :-/
something like a world receiver??
or is it possible to modify the program itself??
tnx

does this work with latest cm7 ?

[Q] Audio over mono bluetooth?

Are there any apps available for the Atrix to play audio over a mono bluetooth headset? I have tried the Super BT Mono Froyo and BTMono apps from the android marketplace and have not been able to get them to work.
Any suggestions (Besides using an A2DP headset)?
I 2nd that! Device not usable to me w/o this option. I've been able to enable this with all my other devices for the last 4 years at least. Not allowed to have both ears covered at work, BT hands-free only option to listen to podcasts at work. Makes 10 hour days seem like forever since I got Atrix and lost this ability. Not sure how many others willing to pay for this, but I would commit a large donation for sure to anyone who has the ability to get something working on the Atrix.
I'd love to findng something that does this as well. Any thoughts?
BTMono works well for me, but I wish Android would support it natively.

I tried btmono but it didn't work for me. What's the version of your android?
It was actually a feature on the stock Froyo build but for some reason it disappeared when I switched to GB. I've always thought it was just my headset though. I had a Plantronics Explorer but I lost it around the time I switched so I don't know if that was the issue.

[Q] Alternate Bluetooth Headset For MW600?

Hi guys,
I'm using MW600 bluetooth headset on my X10. I change original headset with my Sennheiser MX 760. Sound quailty is very good. But I don't use MW600 with 2.2 & 2.3 custom roms
I connect it with X10. I start to listen to music. But I have short interruptions on music at various times.
Do you have a bluetooth headset is working properly with 2.2 and 2.3 custom roms?
PS: 3,5 mm audio jack is important for me. Bluetooth device must have this.
Sorry for bad English
Actually I have the same problem as well with my bluetooth fm transmitter using WB CM6. Never had a problem with bluetooth using 2.1.
Any solution to this?
Hi,
I use Trips 1.6.3 and when I have WLan activated I get interrupted bluetooth music. Without WLan everything is OK.

Can you share your rom's link with me?
custom roms have some trouble with bluetooth headsets, because my MW600 works on stock rom, and also work with my computer, with AD2P support (the devise show the title of the song/movie)
Is everyone using MW600 with this phone? Nobody have a different headset
Hi NS_85,
I forgot to say that I normally use a Nokia BH-103 and also have dropouts:-(
Does anybody know a rom which has no bt problems with a headset.
Ralf
2.1 roms are really the only solution for now. You can use EWjet if you want something snappier.

Yes, MW600 runs perfectly on the EWjet. No skipping during music playback.

Which version do you use?
I tried it but I had this problem:
I pair my MW600 bluetooth handset with my phone. I open android stock music player, mediascape, winamp or etc. My phone returning to the previous screen when I press one of the media control keys While the phone on home screen when I press media control keys, screen loading again and again
media control keys do not work on EWjet.
The last one I used was EWJET 2.1.B.0.1 V001ex. MW600 was fine with it.
I am now on stock 2.1.B.0.1 though. Prefer when I am in control of the modifications
Edit: The problem you are experiencing is caused by that WP7 music player. Disable headset button control in it's settings.

I tried it but, it doesn't fix the problem. Which rom do you use?
I have a Nokia BH-505.
Used to have sporadic blackouts on Froyo, curiously much less with GB (cobrato 1.7.15). Happens every now and then, nothing major - do bear in mind that audio notifications will interrupt your audio stream and that this may be causing the interruptions.
IMHO this has more to do with the BT stack and the ROM than the headset itself.
I don't understand what you are asking for re. the 3.5 mm jack - we ARE talking about BT headsets, right?
Hope this helps

quite simple to replace the in ears with better ones. I heard the MW600 and the sound is not the best. My nokia sounds far better especially in the low frequencies.
btw. the problem ist mostly solved with current GB rom.
Ralf
I have used different BT stereo receivers with it (both 2.1 and 2.3.3 stock):
MW600 works fine, but I don't see track info
Samsung MS3000 works, but make sure you turn the unit on before activate BT in order to connect automatically (this one lacks bass)
Nokia BH-214 works well, but it's replaced by BH-111
Sony DRC-BT30 works well, but I lost it recently.
Isn't it a known fact that Bluetooth and WiFi don't play well together? I seem to remember discussing this issue when I bought my first BT mouse (Logitech MX900) for my then brand new laptop...
Anyway, I think issues were solved by some firmware upgrade of mouse and an improved wifi-driver that addressed the issue of BT-interference. Somehow I think that changes to kernel and/or wifi-critical files may disrupt some of the "built-in" fixes for simultaneous wifi/BT connections, which results in erratic BT-behavior.
So, I think that issues are not really related to the headset rather than the internal bluetooth/wifi-stack. As for how to fix it... Alert the dev's!

[Q] ICScrewd stereo Bluetooth issue

Before I say anything, this is the best ROM I've used for any of the devices I've owned. Simply for the fact that I would rather fix it than flash with something else!
Anyway, the problem is my phone no longer works with my car for media streaming through bluetooth. Worked fine prior to flashing with ICScrewd 2.01. It does pair and the phone functions works otherwise.
Is this particular to this ROM or something else? This is a very stripped down build, which is why I liked it.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
Sarelon
I can add one thing to this, for the first 3 days and 4-6 reboots after upgrading to 2.0.1 (Flashed 2.0, and then the 2.0.1 upgrade later) anytime I would connect my stereo headset (RF-MAB2) the phone app would FC, I would lose phone signal, data, and bluetooth/wifi. They would all come back 30s-1m later, but upon reconnecting the bluetooth headset and hitting play on an audio file it would play, but no audio would come through the headset or the phone speaker. On the other hand my Jawbone Icon connected and worked just fine at all times, no crashing of the phone app or anything else.
One problem though, when I decided to go and capture a log file of it happening .... it ceased to happen, and hasn't happened since, with or without the alogcat running. I'm completely baffled but do hope we can fix this so it doesn't happen in the future.
i think it might be a 2.3.6 issue but i could be wrong. were you on 2.3.4 when it was working?
I experience this same problem with my bt and my alpinew900 rich has tons of bugs anyways...

Again, fantastic work on this ROM.

FM Radio Lacking RDS On 5.0

Hello
RDS works on my smartphone (froyo 2.2) but not with my 5.0 and this is a feature i miss
Is there anyway to add RDS to my 5.0 that doesn't require using wifi or 3g??
Spirit Fm works on my international G70 and adds RDS without internet connection.
Spirit doesn't seem to work on US version (5.0), wifi on or off.
After checking out that app, i'm left with the impression it's a "hardware" issue and not something correctable with software. Oh well, i do really like the native radio app - it just would feel complete with RDS!
Using the app FM TwoO, the RDS is working fine (but the app is not very user-friendly).

Awesome - thanks
Only irritation is having to move back and forth from the favorites folder.
Does anyone know an app that can "EQ" the "radio" or "all system sounds"??
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=795233
DSP manager works well, but I found that I think it conflicts with GrooveIP. I don't use an equalizer enough to care, so I uninstalled it. It did work with the native player, Cubed, and native FM, when I tried it.
Thanks Tcat
Will have a look at that.

DEVS (REQ) ... Navigation volume

there has got to be a dev here that can make a separate navigation volume . im sick of not being able to hear my nav while playing music . when nav voice comes on its so low compared to the volume i listen to my music at . HELP! even if its not a separate volume may some one could break into the app and boost the volume in the app about 30 %
Hmmm sound interesting but upload or link me to the app
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda premium
Its the maps app . You should have it on your phone .
If you wanted integrated navigation volume it would have to be hard coded into the OS. Nav volume is based on media volume, so you can't really boost it in the OS. It would require edits to a majority of the framework files and a custom systemui
well then my question is ... can it be done ? i know im not the only one with this problem. its all over the internet with no fix that i can find . im sure people would appreciate it if a modded app was available .there used to be a separate volume for this but google removed it for some reason ?

Doubtful. If it was done, it couldn't be done for Sense roms and would take months to implement into AOSP. You'd have to convince CM or someone that it's a major issue. Too much work for 1-2 people. Try using an aftermarket app like Volume+?
It can depends on how you are listening to music. If you listen to music from your phone threw the auxiliary port in the car then it will play threw the car speakers and work like you want it to. It maybe even work threw Bluetooth if your car lets you listen to music/media thew Bluetooth then you might be able to listen to the radio while having nav on and connected to Bluetooth and have it played back on the car speakers. When I need to use the nav on mine I just connect threw the auxiliary and listen to music from my phone and let the nav play threw the speakers.

yes i have a 2011 ford taurus and connect via bluetooth it works but while listening to music and using nav ,the nav is much lower than the music . and if i turn up the volume then the music is to loud . it just sucks google took out nav volume . theres got to be a way to break into the nav app and change the output volume . but im no developer so i may be wrong . maybe even something like this http://www.droidforums.net/forum/te...ions/85987-facinate-g-nav-volume-too-low.html
Try doing it thew the auxiliary that works great for me it works on stock nav and sygic.

Personally, for many reasons, I have a strong preference for using a separate device for my GPS. I use an old Garmin nuvi 750.
Without the Garmin, I would be running maps, trapster, and keeping my phone on the dashboard for a good GPS signal. And on top of that, I might receive a phone call.
I prefer using my GPS as a GPS and speed camera warning device. Then my smart phone can be a phone, email, messaging device.

Navigation is for people who don't have a GPS, or don't have it with them. Not meant to be a full fledged GPS. (Even though it is pretty close)
I noticed this same problem about a month or so ago. They changed Maps so that it had the same volume as general media and assumed that all other apps would work perfectly with it. Like you said its all over the internet, or a decent section of the internet. Based on the amount of complaints I assume eventually things will improve over time with updates. Yet with the way they reprogrammed it, there is no longer a separate "navigation volume" option in settings. So changing it would be like programming an entirely new app. I'm with you though. I can't hear my nav at the same appropriate volume of music.
