[Q] big trouble with rooting my phone - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey everyone. This is a quote from androidforums.com it is not my own writing, but this is my exact problem.
"Hey everybody, i recently bought a Sony Ericsson Xperia x10i and thought i should root my phone, using the following tutorial:
Newbies Guide to Rooting X10 and giving you the newest firmware! - xda-developers
So, i was following the steps and after i completed step 5, my phone refused to turn on. At first, the phone would initially vibrate like normal and the LED light would turn green, but then immediately turn off. 5 seconds later, the phone would start constantly vibrating with a black screen and the phone would become unresponsive. To turn it off i had to remove the battery.
I then downloaded the Sony Ericsson PC companion and tried to repair my phone. However, it did no good. Now my phone does the initial vibration, except this time the black screen would lighten up slightly and just stay like that.
I then attempted to charge my phone overnight and when i woke up it just flashes 3 red lights where the LED light is.
could somebody please help me? i only bought my phone 3 days ago and would be a COMPLETE waste of $600 if i was unable to get a replacement phone due to the void of warranty due to rooting.
Is there any way of fixing the phone? If not, is there any way of removing any trace of me rooting or attempting to root the phone (without turning the phone on since i can't) in order to use my warranty?"
My phone has now gone so flat (and doesn't seem to charge) that i can't enter flash mode.. although it was working last night before i went to bed and i did manage to update it using SEUS. But it wont boot up properly. Any ideas? I have noticed that there are a few other people that are having the same problem.. but no one seems to have a solution.
I have also noticed that it runs in a loop. When i plug it in the red light flashes for a while, then attempts to turn on.. and does the black screen for a while. Then it runs out of battery and goes back to the red flashing light. then it repeats.
Hope you can help. Thanks.

Have you tried flashing new firmware with flashtool?

As i tried to explain above.. my phone wont enter flash mode as it is too flat. And it wont charge. when i take it off the charger and try and turn it on. it flashes red three times then a break then three times again and so on.
Any ideas on whats going on?
would it be possible to still claim in on warranty as it wont start properly and wont connect to the computer.

Big uh-oh...

I have a problem with my x10i.
I was trying to use the flash tool for 2.1 from binary's thread but I failed and it was still 1.6. It got to the point where it said [finish] and then error message in the cmd. After that I tried using SEUS to update it again, the 2.1 update was available so I tried installing it.
Here is the current situation.
After installing 2.1 from SEUS, I followed the instruction to turn the phone off/take out the usb. After turning it back on, it's been half a hour and I'm still stuck at the blank screen before the SE logo shows up. I tried taking out the battery to boot into Flash Mode but that didn't work either. I was wondering if it was because the battery is near empty, but that's not the case since I was using the wallcharger for another hour on it earlier whlie it's in the blank screen state.
Can anyone point me in a direction for fixing it?
Forgot to mention, holding the power button doesn't turn it off either. I would have to remove the battery to turn it off.
Try a re-flash... use the repair function on PC Suite
the usb cable isnt turning on the phone by connecting to it while its off. i can't boot in flash mode either .
had somewhat a prob yesterday like it, my phone did turn on again. i got an other pc installed companion suite there and repaired the firmware(said it was up to date) and then after the boot i'am @ 2.1
was the other pc a 32bit? because the first time i tried using seus was on a 32bit then i bought 64 bit computer.
I'll try running it on a 32bit computer today.
Okay, so I borrowed a PC and installed PC Companion and tried to connect the phone to the computer. However the computer didn't recognize my phone at all. Perhaps this is a problem with window 7?
I also noticed that when i take the battery out and put the usb in then the battery back in, the green LED light stays on. It stays on until the phone trys to boot itself on then the LED turns off but the screen turns on. Only thing is that the screen is still blank and never went to any of the logo screens. And while the USB is plugged in, I can't turn it on by holding power. However if the usb is not plugged in, and I take the battery out and put it back in, I can hold power and it'll blink really fast for the green LED and then the phone viberates for a quick second (like it usually does when you turn your x10 on) and then blank screen and nothing else. The reason i can tell it's on w/ a blank screen and not a screen issue is because I put the phone under the table (very little light) and I can see the screen dimly lit by the back light. These are the only 2 indication I have that the hardware is working.
My biggest guess right now is that the firmware was F'D during the flash or the loader is now a goner since I can't boot into safemode or flashmode. My other conclusion so far is that while the phone is on (confirming it being on via the backlit blank screen) the usb connection goes off. Perhaps its stuck in a loop? Can anyone tell me how I can fix this?
I did searches as well.
I came across people who said their phone was stuck so they let it drain out the battery on it's own and it unstucks. Some say they waited 4-5 minutes and it worked.
So far the longest I waited was:
3 Hours(And counting) *usb & battery is plugged in but charging green LED light is not on*
or tried to leave it alone for 8 hours without battery or usb plugged in.
I'm hoping someone has come across the same problem and had a fix or one of the DEVS might've experianced this problem while trying to test their loaders/etc?
Nothing to do with Windows 7, I and others have no issues on Windows 7 x64. Run the attached file and delete anything to do with SE and try reconnecting in flash mode whilst running SEUS. Post a screen shot of the program if you're unsure what to delete.
Okay right now I am on the 2nd computer with the 32bit OS that I tried to connect to earlier. However i was unable to find a DEVID that was registered on Nov 1. which should be the case since I have never connected my phone with this computer ever before.
I was unsuccessful at booting into flash mode as well. I would put the battery in. then hold the back button and plug the usb. However the phone would not auto boot like it does normally when you plug in the usb so I held on till it did because I thought it might be lagging, however it still didnt boot into flash mode.
I have a baddddd feeling now
Did you read my post?
this is the screen shot of the program you told me to run. It was ran on the computer that I borrowed today, it was never connected with my phone before.
Thanks for helping me ^___^

No worries, but you'll have to post a better screenshot than that, can hardly see it.
Sorry about that, this is my first time uploading a image on xda.

Yeah as you've not connected it before there is nothing there to remove, and seems like you've already tried everything. Not sure what to suggest, are you on a contract with insurance?
Nope, I got my phone in USA before it came out in NA. I had it imported via a dealer.

[Q] phone won't charge, boot or go into flash mode

Hey xda crew!
i was hoping you might be able to help me out with this problem i have
I tried to root my phone recently using the "newbies guide to rooting x10" and well when i turned my phone back on it wouldn't turn on and just vibrated constantly untill i took the battery out.
after that i decided to try and reinstall software using SEUS and it told me that it worked. But when i tried to start my phone it again wouldn't start. but this time instead of vibrating the screen light just turned on and sort of flashed every now and then.
I left the phone on all night charging while the screen was doing funny things, in hope that it would eventually start up. but when i got up in the morning the battery had gone dead and all that was happening was the red led light was flashing.
I tried to get it back into flash mode, but because the battery was so dead all the phone would do was the red lights would flash when i plugged it into the computer.
As im not sure that i can claim it on warranty.. i was wondering if my problem lies in the USB cord/charger or the phone its self? or the battery?
Can anyone help me with this problem?
Would be a amazing help.
Thanks heaps in advance.
Well, something probably went wrong when you tried too root it, so it turned into a brick.
You won't be able to claim it on the warranty because you lost that when you tried rooting it.
Get your battery charged (maybe in someone elses x10), and search the forums here, i'm pretty sure that there is a de-brick guide somewhere, although i haven't tried it.
To get into flash mode, your bttry need to be on 50% charged... Your phone must've been booting all night, find a way to charge your battery mate, n then bfore flasing, take out ur battery, hold the back key n insert it back.... Hope this will b helpful...
maguyver it take an old charger cut the end off strip the wires now touch the red to the positive and black to negative of your battery and plug it in... i had to do it for my buddies droid x when i bricked it when it was it it reads as full charge but you only wanna have it plugged in like that for like 10 min tops

Guess there's not many to help in this issue. I just faced the same man. Don't know what to do. It won't go to flash mode, SEUS don't recognize, neither the flash tool. Reinstalled PC companion thinking the drivers have gone wrong but that don't seem to be the issue.
So im here with a bricked x10, lol but not funny ppl
Someone(recognized developer) in the forum said that the X10 can't b hard bricked. Also, i got this problem 2-3months back. But now its alright.
SEUS did't find the drivers for my x10. Then i went to my friends home(who also has x10) and flash my x10 using seus. I found drivers because drivers were already installed on my friend's pc.
So, i just want to tell you that:
Flash your X10 from that PC which already has drivers installed.
Remember your x10 can't b hard bricked. It will be semi-bricked.
Sorry for my bad english

I'm not a DEV
But I played and bricked and de-bricked my x10 a lot and I literally installled and tested almost all ROM's the dev's posts
So, this is what I feel would've happand.
First of all, u didnt mention if u were on 2.1 or 2.3.
Because rooting 2.3 is not as easy as 2.1.
Now, like what most people commented, you root must have been broken.
Also, what I feel is that your battery stats were wrong.
That means, your battery was not holding the proper charge what it was actually "showing" (charging is infact is software based).
Now, what you actually can do is, find another person who has an X10 near your place.
Put ur battery in his cell and check whats happening.
If its really out of juice, then use "his" phone to charge your battery.
Charge it to full and then put it back to ur phone and try starting your phone.
If the vibration thing is happening, then ur battery is good.
Now open flash tool, and remove battery from ur phone.
Connect USB to phone and comp, and press the back button and hold it, and while holding it, insert the battery.
From my experience, you should be seeing the green light now, and my openion is that u flash the 2.1 generic firmware and then rroot the phone first, install recovery and after doing these, install any of the custom ROMs available.
I'm using Wolf's ROM v 4.04 and its very stable.
All the best and report back if your problem is fixed.

X10 won't startup > Bootloop

Hey guys, i bought an x10 yesterday, the seller told me straight up that it wont boot, red led flashes 3 times thats it. (he tried to restore his unit with seus after it randomly crashed). When i met him, i swapped his battery for mine and no more red led but still wont boot. I was able to get it in flash mode so i figured, restore with seus and all would be ok. When i got home, tried restoring with seus and when i got close to the end, it failed. Keeps telling me my battery is dead but when i pop it in my other x10, its at around 80%. So, started flashtool and tried it that way but fails towards the end of the process. Even the new flashtool 3.0 didnt work. Gave up for a bit but then retried. seus failed twice but on 3rd try, it worked. Now, the phone will vibe when i hit the power button, green led flashes and screen kinda turns on but no SE logo, then powers off and restarts the boot (still no SE logo). I put in a full battery and left it that way all night. this morning, red led blinking 3 times again. I changed the battery and it still tries to boot but ends up in a loop. Ive been searching all kinds and no fix is available from what i understand. im really confused atm. hardware issue?
Could be motherboard..
This may not apply to the X10 but my sister's X10 Mini Pro went through a fairly similar issue. The phone was stuck in a bootloop with the SE logo, bootanimation, repeat. No matter what we tried, we could not get it to boot properly. She hadn't made a backup and banned me from doing a repair flash of the firmware so I was trying a load of other options (all the while telling her that the only way out was a flash).
I have an EP900 battery charger so randomly decided to charge up her battery to 100% and give it a try. Boom, booted up perfectly. Used the battery down to 20% and tried to reboot, bootloop again. For some reason the phone doesn't boot without a fully charged battery (didn't try charging it with the phone, only the external charger).
Dunno if this will apply to you, but it may be worth a shot. Otherwise, I'm inclined to think you have a mobo problem. Maybe the seller tried unlocking the bootloader and bricked it?

Thats what i thought at first, who knows.... Bout the battery, i tried a fully charged one too but no go. Also, tried to repair my phone with pc companion but still wont boot up... out of options, im 99% sure its the mobo as well...
Not sure, what the issue is, but you can try the following:
1. Try charging the battery for quite a while, and forget about the phone for 2 hours, for me a few months back. I slept while xrec was on, and in the morning it was showing me the red light......I charged it for two hours which brought my phone back to life.
2. You can use SEUS to update your phone, which will wipe the entire thing and get you a fresh new GB stock. Then you can play with it.

1. Battery isnt the problem, as i have 2 to play with
2. Tried that, but either it fails, or if it does go thru, it still wont boot.
It wont even show the "Sony Ericsson" when its powered up. Can it be possible, the guy played around and messed up the files required for this unit to boot? Is that even possible?

[Q] Help with Bricked x10 mini pro

Hi,
My x10 mini pro started to act "funny" (restarting and shutting down by it self) so I found this forum. Kept reading a lot of posts for 6h until I decided to try flashing it with a costum rom to fix it.
Flashed via flashtool the Sony Style's 1.1 by paul-xxx; it worked for a while, then shut down again. But this time, with flashing red light (3 times, with hard-reset [home+power button] when trying to turn on and a looping red light (every 3~4 seconds) when trying to get to flash mode.
After some time, it vanished from existence and was presumed dead. No lights, nothing at all. Send to repair, they couldn't fix it, but they restored the lights (red loop again).
So, now it got dead again. I have two batteries, both charged, but still nothing.
I really don't know what to do. I thought it was HW damage, but the repair guy said it was software corruption.
So, any light on my head ? :/

No flash mode. That's my curse ç.ç

Dont know if it can help. .but give it a try with a new connecting wire.. maybe the connecting wire/port is damaged.. because it was the same with one of my friends.. he replaced with a new battery n a cord n it got fixed.. give it a try.. till then will search for u.. if found will post back..
Used a new one, from my girlfriend's 2011 mini pro, bought a new battery and fully charged on another phone. Still, no flash mode.
I would say that the port of the phone is out, but the repair guy used it with no problems... as he said.
The phone was hers, but she bought a new one. once this turned into a brick.
If I fix it, is mine... but, maybe there is no solution... :/
Just confirmed: Battery isn't the issue here. Recharged them to 100% and still the phone won't give a single sign of life.
Apparently, I'm doomed. I don't have money to buy fixing boxes and cables, but it really pains me out.
I already downloaded all the cooking material to start working on it, but... I guess it's dead.
As I searched, x10 mini pro doesn't have a test point, but a cable set up in the back board. But I couldn't find the schematics, just boxes... that will cost me a LOT.
I'll be watching the thread and test new options you guys give me... but that's all.
Sorry to bother you all with this issue..

Phone isn't detected.
EDIT: It doesn't respond with or without flash mode. But when I disconnect it from the cable, he blinks a red light 3 times in sequence. Same with home+power.

You've also installed the Gordons Gate drivers before doing Your tests?
from the flashtool folder install <flashtool folder>\drivers\gg-????.exe
Then reboot pc and re-try...
Yep. GG-setup.exe installed. Restarted.
Phone looks "dead". But it blinks red lights without the charger / cable usb.
Odd.
EDIT: Left charging on the wall with red blinking light. Dead again. No sign of life whatsoever.
Update:
Noticed that it "ignores" my attempts on the screen buttons. Back and home = same reaction... as if I wasn't pressing them.
I'm thinking that I've got hardware problems... or some HARD software issues. =/

Help! Xperia C5 Ultra suddenly died. Tried Sony Software Repair, still doesn't work.

Hi, everybody. Need your help.
Yesterday, midday (when I expected the phone to ahve 70%+ charge), I suddenly noticed my Xperia C5 was off and would not turn on. (By the way, I recently installed Android 6.0 about a week ago).
I assumed something had caused the battery to drain completely, so I went home and plugged it in.
Red light activates, goes out, vibrates, comes back on, and stays on. After 20-30 minutes, still no activity (not even the charging percentage), so I research on this forum, and others, how to recover the device.
Two-button power-down did not work, so I downloaded the Xperia Companion and followed the instructions for Software Repair.
The PC / Companion doesn't recognize the phone at first, but following the software repair instructions, holding the volume button down before plugging the the USB into the computer, the green light (on the phone) came on, and the software repair process commenced (automatically).
First attempt at software repair failed, so I tried with a different USB cable. Second time was a success, and Xperia Companion was able to successfully reload software version 29.2.A.0.122-R3B.
However, I still cannot turn on the device. I have now left it charging for the past 2-3 hours, and it's still in the same state as before the software repair.
I noticed one odd quirk: If I press and hold the power and volume-up button, the red light goes of, there is a medium vibration, then three strong vibrations, before the red light goes on again. Then nothing else happens.
Any advice on how to rescue this C5?
Thanks!!
Sorry - I should have put this in the troubleshooting thread...
Just an additional interesting piece of information:
If Xperia Companion is NOT activated (i.e., not loaded), and I plug the device into my PC, Windows will alert me that a device is connected (as it usually does, with the chime), and the red light on the C5 turns GREEN.
Then in my Windows Device Manager, I can see the phone as an "Unspecified" device called S1 Service.
Clicking further into the propertise of this "S1 Service", I see that the Hardware is listed as a SOMC Flash Device, manufacturer is Sony Mobile Communications (etc.).
Every few seconds, I will hear the sound of a device being disconnected, the green light turns red, then there's a vibration, it gets reconected, and it goes green again. Repeat.
Xperia C5 Ultra E5553 Unbrick Succesfully :good:
Hi everyone, the only solution = Jtag repair , another solutions not successful! I repaired my device this solution and was successful. My device perfect working now :good:
some prob here
I have question, recently i flashed a rom on my c5 ultra dual, now it don't turn on anymore, only red light. I still have warranty on my phone
if i can't start the phone, is it possible that the manufacturer also can't start the phone, or will they find out that i broke the warranty rules?
In mid december 2016 my c5 ultra E5553 shut down randomly several times and then decided to wake up again 20 minutes later / one day later. It happened again in late january and took about 5 days before it decided to wake up (as I was preparing a hardware repair request!!). I am guessing a dodgy battery / connection as the 'one day later' restart happened as I was flexing the chassis to get the sim & sd card out - even though the phone had been on charge since the shutdown the battery percent had not changed / gone up.
The '5 days later' restart the battery was completely flat but the phone showed some signs of response when I plugged the charge cable in - after about 5 minutes of charge it then powered up when I hit the start button. Have not used it since as I was looking to flash up from the stock 5.1 ROM.
Amusingly I have landed on xda-dev looking for a flash tool as the xperiablog forum has the latest stock ROM (6.x) but advise that the flash tool they use bricks c4 & c5s...
so in summary, it randomly drops power and goes completely dark & unresponsive, but then decides it will let you wake it up sometime later...
