Read CID from SD via Laptop - 7 Mozart General

Hi all.
Not having a WM or Android device around, and wanting to create a gold card for my Mozart, I managed to put together a bit of software using some resources from the web and made an application that appears to do just this.
You basically just insert your SD card into the laptop card reader, run the app as admin, and click Read CID.
Note: IT MUST BE A LAPTOP CARD READER THAT IS NOT VIA A USB ROOT DEVICE - USB CARD READERS ARE NO GOOD
Requirements:
Well, at this stage just give it a go on as many laptops as you can find until it works, and post back what did and didn't work for you.
It seems about a 40% chance it will work, so try on a couple if it doesnt at first.
It will return it pre-reversed and ready for the Gold Card website - and the number works.
I have already successfully created a gold card using the number provided by the tool!
Download from here: http://rapidshare.com/files/452275274/GoldCardHelper.exe
Good Luck!

im ready to try on my htc 7 mozart so halla me back thanks

Hey otech. Fellow aussie here with Mozart on Telstra.
Will be happy to test.

Hi guys,
Some other testers have reported it does not work on 32bit windows.
If you have a laptop with x64, post again and I will pm you the link.
Cheers

Count me in. I've Win7Pro x64 and pretty interesting microSD

Happy to help
Hi otech
I meet the hardware and sotware requirements. I don't know if I will be able to help but by all means let me have the instructions and I will see what I can do.
Cheers

Pls count me!
Thanks

I'd like to give it a try as well

Sorry for the delay all, I was hoping to have permission from the author of the code I modified, but he has'nt replied for over a week.
So instead, I placed a link to the source of the code (a freely viewable blog) on the application itself.
Basically this app extends the work he did by fixing a couple of little issues with his code, and modifying it to return the number needed for the goldcard website.
Let me know how it goes guys!

@OTech, no good here, Win7pro, 64 bit, Toshiba laptop with built in SD card reader. Used a 512 MB micro SD in a regular sd adapter, "no sd card found on a compatible device"

I've tried your and original code and it looks like NativeMethods.DeviceIoControl does not actually update SffdiskQueryDeviceProtocolData's instance leaving GUID in it empty => isSD returns false for actual SD card..

here's what original author commented on his tool:
"Works only with SD cards plugged into a reader attached directly to the pci bus, it doesn't work with usb readers, you need admin rights for the call, it needs to be compiled for x86 instead of AnyCPU, it's flaky..."
I was trying on my hp 2740p and apparently card reader isn't on pci bus. I gave it a shot on Win7x86 on Samsung Q35 (3 years old laptop) and it worked on it just as expected.

This is crazy, I developed this on a toshiba with x64.
I also have another tester for whom it worked straight away.

Really?!
Thats bizarre if it worked and your reader isn't directly on pci. From what the original author wrote, the USB root device would receive the call instead of the reader.
So it produced a CID for you? Did it work? Was it 128bit?

Original app from jo0ls worked on Samsung Q35 with 32bit, neither of tools worked on 2740p with 64bit. Here's what I got:

Awesome, glad to see it actually working on 32bit - there's hope yet.
So what do you think?
Drivers play a big part? Jo0ls seemed to elude to drivers being an issue.

Now I've successfully used this CID and made a gold card. I don't know what might be the cause here. Both readers have MS-issued drivers, the one in 2740p is dated as Jun 2006th - SDA Standard Compliant SD Host Controller. As both of drivers are generic I somewhat doubt that it's driver's fault but again - apparently they're different (x86 vs x64). I also believe that x64 version of Windows has more tight security (e.g. no way to just install unsigned driver without some tweakery) - maybe that has something to do with our issues.
Anyhow, thanks for your work and heads up on approach! I actually couldn't get my SD's CID using WinMo device so this is a relief for me

Wow, thank you very much. I've been having trouble with the CID. The WMPhone method seems to have been giving me a wrong number :S
It didnt work on any HP/Compaq SD card readers they all seem to have usb versions built in. worked great on an Acer Win7 32bit though!

Great news guys, so I guess what we can take from this is that it's just totally luck as to whether the thing will work for you, and to try as many laptops as you can until you find one that works.
Given both you guys had success on 32bit systems, I will remove that requirement and emphasise the luck factor
Thanks for your detailed feedback too, most appreciated.

Correlation between SDBusDriver and SDMemory???

Hi,
Since the drivers in Magician is reputed to work for SD Wifi+256 card, I've been trying to replace the drivers.
There has been a couple of workarounds I've been trying. Insofar, I've only managed to get the Wifi working, but not the Memory part.
I was hoping that registry experts here can impart some knowledge on the stuff. Or better still, perhaps someone has the updated drivers can post it here?
Anyone has BSQUARE SDIO driver 1.2.0.0 in their Himalaya?
I'm having the 1.1.0.0 version on my 2.06 ROM, but the Magician version is 1.2.0.0. Does anyone has the 1.2.0.0 in their Himalaya ROM?
so you can use a sd wifi 256 mb Sandisk with a xdaII but only in wireless?
If yes, please post the driver pleaseee

Here it is. It is to be used in conjunction with the PegasSDN.dll supplied by the sandisk pocket pc 2003 drivers for the combo card.
If you are able to use WinCab Mgr, you will find that the sandisk pocket pc 2003 drivers has a SDBusDriver12.cab inside. That also contains a copy of SDIO 1.2.0.0 drivers dated Feb 2004.
Anyhow, be forewarned that the new drivers is not that compatible with XDA2 device and will disable flash storage (means that your "Storage Card" folder will be gone). Not a very good trade to enable wifi using the combo card, if you asked me.
My pocket pc doesn't allow me to overwrite SDBusDriver.dll. Any idea?

I still wouldn't recommend trying it. But what the heck, remember to backup your files and be prepared for hard reset.
go to your registry and edit:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\SDBusDriver]
edit value "Dll"="SDBusDriver.dll" to
"Dll"="SDBusDriver.bak"
cold reset
copy the new SDBusDriver.dll over (it will override the function of the original version, but will not remove it).
cold reset
Storage card folder is disabled (as new SDBusDriver.dll is incompatible with XDA2, I reckon).
Install Sandisk Wifi+256 combo software from www.sandisk.com. This will provide the Wifi software and SDIO multi-function drivers for the SDIO slot.
Alternatively, if you know how to operate WinCAB mgr, replace SDBusDriver.dll in SDBusDriver12.cab in Pegas2577.cab of Sandisk Wifi+256 combo software. You can just install the Pegas2577.cab and all the required drivers and registry settings will be set automatically.
Sandisk combo card Wifi will work fine, even though Storage is still disabled.
I did tell ya, no point right?
But if someone can make both function works, I will have utmost gratitude. In fact, I'm waiting for my fantasy to happen - that some kind soul in MS or MS partners will release an updated version of WM2003SE ROM for XDA2 - complete with new SDIO drivers, BT stack and WMP10 mobile????

connections & upgrading problems

hello im new here,
the problem i have is that my device will not sync/connect with windows/activesync, it synced once recently, i was able to explore the device but several minutes later the connection died.
i think there may be some setting preventing syncing/usb connection.
i cannot change any settings since theres a startup program that wont let me close it, but if i press the calendar button that appears briefly.
http://www.pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=305
this is my device, i have tried himaupdate and the latest version of hima but i get connection errors, once briefly i got it to go to the upgrade screen where i get to see the version from and to ..
the device is connected by cradle and if i pull it out and stick it in active sync reacts but then doesnt connect.
i have tried moving, holding, adjusting, wiggling the device in the cradle thinking it might be not touching the pins but no help.
what i think i need is to eith disable startup scripts or have some sort of brute flashing utility to upgrade it. thing is i dont know ebough about these devices to try anything more adventurous without help/assistance.
please can you help me out?
did you put it in bootloader mode before trying to upgrade ?
if not do so
how would one put it in boot loader ?
i am pc savvy not pocketpc savvy
thank you

hey great faq, im one step closer i think,
i needed my gf to help me with the vulcan death pinch.
this is what i see, and my device is recognised by windows as a new usb device that i have no drivers for...
i cannot find any drivers on the manufacturers site
let it use internet ms site as possible search for drivers then it should see it as some ms generic device
which can recieve flash from the tool
Rudegar, i have tried the windows update for drivers and other places online including the ppc_usb10.exe, and still no luck.
i bought myself an sd card is there any way of flashing from the sd card using the magical bootloader ?
---
well i have copied some files to my sd card, and inserted the cared into my device booted into bootloader mode,
Code:
FlashUpdateUtility.dll Application Extension 76 KB 16/06/2004 11:12:16
MC50.TXT Text Document 384 B 12/09/2006 18:07:02

OSUPD50.EXE Application 37 KB 13/05/2004 10:50:18
OSUPDATE.EXE Application 4 KB 03/11/2004 03:41:56
then i executed all the .hex files when given the option, after that my device became windows ce, with almost no other than basic software installed.
i would like to know where i could find hex files for windows mobile 2005, or if i can extract hex files from "nk.nbf"
thank you,

device id problem - nothing helps!

After reading hundreds of posts about this error 244 - invalid device id and trying every remedy proposed, I'm still stuck with this bootloader info:
E
IPL-v1.00
E
SPL-v1.25.Olipro
Instead of the "E"s there should be an "ATH100" or so, shouldn't it? No wonder my Ameo won't flash from the SD card.
I stepped into this mess after upgrading from the official T-Mobile WM6.0 to first Athena 4.0 and then to Michi's WM6.1 R6.0 without checking the SPL version. I thought that I have read that Athena 4.0 would upgrade the SPL, but had to learn that Vanilla doesn't the hard way.
Now, how do I get rid of the nasty "E"s?
i also have the same problem

Dear lakeman,
thanks for your advice. Except for the mtty post I kew all the others and followed them step by step. I redid them after the hint with the USB cable and I even changed the USB port - still "Fail to synchronize".
What seems interesting is that MTTY 0513 does not show the USB option when the older version does.

Dear Friends,
thanks for your help! I managed to revive my little Athena! Today, I took it to work, connected it to my desktop, disabled USB in ActiveSync, put little Athena in bootloader and conneted it to my desktop, started MTTY 0513 which immediately 'saw' the USB device. From then on it was only a matter of minutes, sinc I had everything prepared (mac.bin and a FAT32 SD card with the boot image).
And now it lives again!

Dear vovaxxxx,
I wasted hours and hours on my XP machine at home and could not get MTTY to see mx USB connection. I have no idea why it worked like a charm on my business XP system. On both engines I disabled the ActiveSync USB connection, but only on my business site MTTY V0513 could see the USB. MTTY V1.42 coud see USB at home too, but could not upload the mac.bin file.
When I finally succeeded to upload mac.bin (see posts before how to generate this) my Athena 'knew' again what beast it is.
I had initialized a Mini SD card as a FAT32 disk on my PC, and had copied the RUU_signed.nbh file from the AP4 vanilla installation to it, and renamed its to ATHIMG.nbh. Then I inserted this SD card into the SD slot of my Athena, went to bootloader again and it loaded this image automatically.
Kind regards,
Thomas

Dear raskell,
yes, it was a different cable in the office. Normally I shuttle my Athena between home and office to sync my calendar and tasks, so both cables are proven to work with data transfers. In my desparate attempts to get MTTY doing what it should do, I tried different cables at home, so I was quite convinced that it wasn't a cable issue, but one never knows!
Both machines, at home and at work, are XP SP3 with all patches, but at home I have an AMD 3800+ and at work an Intel dual processor. Both use different chip sets, so this alone are reasons enough for me to quit looking for causes - one get used to it in the PC/Windows world! (I am a VMS geek for 20+ years now, so please excuse my prejudices!)
Kind regards,
Thomas

if JAm could support sdhc... the problem appears not to be related to hardware, but driver or firmware. with many devices driver has worked.

and it seems to got persistent. ( although my GC still don't work, or my HD2 is really ****ed up )
I guess when you do the safe remove windows rewrite the changes done with HxD?
That tut is for android device goldcards, and the image generator webpage it links to is for android or WP7 devices.
Even though you may be running android, it is still a winmo phone.

The process is about the same, except there are no free pages offering to make hd2 goldcards. Send me your CID (card is 4gb or smaller, right? 2gb for preference,, wont work on bigger cards, dont reverse the digits or any of that, just the cid as it is generated) and an email address and ill make you an image.
Oh darn, saw this too late, sent the device to repair... But the technician isn't having much luck, so if I get the device back still half-bricked, I'll surely want your help!
Thanks!
