[Q] my phone is DEAD - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Did my frist flash and now everything is messed up (JL2 seeARMS) - for the belli9000m
basically I can get into my phone - but everything is black (i can't see anything other than the status scren) and the home/back button doesn't work - can't see nothing else
I did a factory reset, wipe, cache, etc. everything - and reinstalled the ROM via CWM yet still nothing works
I desperately need help

Install the correct Bell rom via Odin, not CWM. That should fix it.

you mean to start all over kinda thing ? like download the correct Bell JL2 rom (the official one) and use ODIN to install it ?
I still don't understand why everything is blank - like i can pull down status bar and select voicemal to make a call, receive txts even, but nothing else is there - nothing
how does this even happen

Well it's weird, I'll give you that, but your phone is far from "DEAD". Probably some files are failing to load, or were not included in that ROM that you flashed. Flashing the official one will fix it.

ok last question - once I find / dl the original firmware from bell/samsung (JL2) - and I go into download mode and use ODIN - WHAT BOXES DO I TICK/CHECK - because I've only used odin to flash a kernal (and just used pda) I can assume it's not the same as I'll need the original kernal correct ?
do I tick all the boxes? any tutorials on this I'm lost.
also, how big are these files - i am at work behind a firewall so I can't dl the original firm ware from
http://www.samfirmware.com/WEBPROTECT-i9000.htm
but I need the JL2
if anyone wants to d/l it and email it to me it would be awesome
[email protected]

The files are big (~160MB), I don't think they will fit in your gmail
Here's the download link from samfirmware.com for I9000UGJL2
http://www.multiupload.com/6GRS1OWRJW (password is samfirmware.com)
You just select the .tar file in Odin in the PDA field, don't tick anything else, and flash. Example below:

"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

Anyway, before you do all that, have you tried wiping the phone from recovery mode? It might help.
You can also try asking seeARMS for help in his thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=906977

I know how to get back to stock now - i am just curious about how to re-flash the rom - I want to get this rom on my phone.
I tried flashing it again via CWM - it's even worse, i get into android, but it's blank, black, nothing's there, no buttons work, etc.
so what I was SUPPOSED to do was unzip the original rom .zip file and delete the extra stuff ? then rezip it and flash THAT file via CWM ?
that wasn't in the instructions -- look at the instructions it gives you 2 options:
-------------
"1. Download and extract the file you downloaded above to the root of your internal SD card (both the "seearms" folder and the .ZIP ROM file).
If you would like to customize your install, continue doing step 2. If you would like a stock install with all the applications + SpeedMod kernel + JL2 modem + Generation X theme, skip to step 3"
3. Boot into recovery, and select "Install zip from sdcard".
4. Select "Choose zip from sdcard", and scroll to the ROM.
------------
I did what it said - I did a stock install and skipped to step 3 without doing 2a-2e (custom install)
no where in the instructions did it say I had to open up the .zip file and delete contents then rezip it and flash that file
I need to know how to flash this "custom" rom as per the instructions via seeARM himself -- i didn't do the "custom" and that's what messed me up

ok i flashed with stock JL2 and now i get 10000 force closes
why is this ? anyone ?

Buddy this doesnt seem to work for me or i am making some mistake..As i am new to all this stuff i please you to guide me through the procedure...
I have done so but CWM manager is not there after flashing..
"""""(1) Make sure you have CF-Root flashed (see the first post). You must have the "CWM Manager" app available.
(2) Make sure you have the same version of CF-Root extracted until you have the zImage file. (ZIP --> extract --> TAR --> extract --> zImage).
(3) Push the zImage file to /sdcard . It must still be called zImage !
(4) Find an original Samsung signed stock kernel (preferably from the same stock firmware you have, but it's not terribly important)
(5) Reboot into download mode (adb reboot download, or boot the device with home and volume-down pressed)
(6) Fire up ODIN, and flash the Samsung kernel
(7) Boot the device with the stock kernel. CWM Manager will still be available.
(8) Start CWM Manager, select Flash Kernel, and select the zImage from CF-Root you previously put on your SD-card. The kernel will flash and the device will reboot.
(9) You will now notice you no longer have the warning triangle during boot, but you are actually running CF-Root with all it's goodies!
(10) In the future, if you only use the Flash Kernel option inside CWM Manager instead of ODIN, the triangle will not return, neither will your flash counter increase. Trouble installing ROM via CWM

Hi everyone, seasons greeting's and all that
So, I have successfully rooted my phone (after lots of reading etc) with the SpeedMod kernel which IMHO makes my phone fly, quite impressed indeed.
I'm unfortunately a novice and I am having trouble installing a ROM, although it works perfectly well when I have to flash back to stock with odin.
I completed the required wipes as suggested is always performed when installing new ROMs. I placed the zip (tried this with CheckROM and Hyperdroid on numerous occasions) on the internal memory (external 2gb memory still in situ) and via CWM proceeded to "install zip from sdcard" and then "choose zip from internal sdcard", the flash process took all of 1.5mins which I thought was far too quick.
When prompted, I reboot the phone with the option on CWM and basically get stuck at the image in the pic below, even after waiting 30-60mins
Any help greatly appreciated as I am really keen on trying some great ROMs from some great devs.
Many Thanks, Rizur.

Are you selecting 'flash zip' or 'install zip from SD card' then selecting the file?
1.5 minutes also sounds about right.
Sent from my GT-I9100
Sorry, I am indeed selecting "install zip from sdcard" and then "choose zip from internal sdcard".
Get back into recovery and flash the file again, or restore a previous backup. Otherwise get into download mode and flash a rom that was specifically made to be flashed through odin, there's a few of them.
Cheers! I'm currently on stock with SpeedMod kernel, I may try and flash again or find those odin based ROMs you speak of.
flash a rom with odin like lighning to see if its working
I am currently on UltraToxic ROM, mainly because I'm struggling to flash via CWM.
All is well so far though so I'm happy
A clue ??
Copy custom rom zip xxxx .zip or whatever its called to internal sd card .
Boot to recovery cwm .
select Install zip from sd card .
choose zip from sd card or depending upon CWM version choose zip from internal sd card .
Navigate to named zip file xxxx.zip select then answer yes in the next window .
Should now install and boot .
If fails it would be worth checking your version of cwm and maybe even install a new cwm and root kernal or start over and wipe the phone .
Clean Slate for those that balls up the firmware .Or need to return to service or decide if its hardware/firmware problem .
Backup data first if phone is working .
Boot CWM recovery
Mounts and Storage
Format cache data system sd card .
Remove battery
Boot to download mode
Open Odin
Install correct stock firmware .
followed by cwm and root
then your custom rom of choice .
jje
What I can say is these.
Turn off phone.
Enter cwm again.
Wipe everything.
Try reflash and it should work now.
Good luck!

Thanks guys!
JJEgan, I will try your advice mate, hopefully I will get this thing running CheckROM as I would like
I'm in no hurry but would be nice to be able to test out more ROM's!
Once again much appreciated guys!

[Q] Lost Root and can't get it back

Hi Guys
I flashed my phone with ICS f/w Lightening ROM but I didn't like it because of FCs and higher batter consumption so I decided to come back to CHeckROM v6 and Phenomenol Kernel.
I did a data wipe, partition wipe, dalvik cache wipe before flashing CheckROM over Lightening ICS ROM and again deleted dalvik cache after installing Phenomenol Kernel.
Now I don't have root. I'm unable to use Applications like Root Call Blocker, Root Explorer and Voltage Control
I tried flashing my phone with different Kernels like N.E.A.K , RedPill etc but didn't get root back. What could be the issue ?

Flash chainfire kernel in original development thread using odin.
Thanks, that's what I'm trying right now.
I have downloaded concerned firmware from his thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14733439&postcount=534 and flashing as I write. I'll report back
"I did a data wipe, partition wipe, dalvik cache wipe before flashing CheckROM on Lightening ICS and again deleted dalvik cache after installing Phenomenol Kernel. "
sentance is not clear, are you still on ICS and flashed kenrel on that, or you flashed the Phenomenol, N.E.A.K , RedPill, etc after flashing checkrom ??
EDIT : if you are on Checkrom V6 and you lost root then just unzip this file to get TAR file and flash from ODIN http://download.chainfire.eu/144/CF-Root/SGS2/CF-Root-SGS2_XW_OXA_LA4-v5.0-CWM5.zip you will gain the root
Now on CHeckROM. I was explaining what all I did before returning to GB ROM from ICS ROM

Thanks my friend. I download the exact same file but getting some error flashing this Kernel from CWM. I also extracted the .tar file and tried via ODIN but ODIN doesn't detect my phone in DOwnload mode
Please note that I'm able to connect my phone to Laptop in normal mode i.e to transfer files.

have you installed kies first, if not install latest keis
then close the keis and try
Thanks a lot bud. After installing Kies, I was able to use ODIN and flash the tar file. Got root back and not flashed my favorite Kernel over it. Root is retained. Thanks again

It's my pleasure,
you can use Kitchen from Checkrom to download your favorirte kernels and flash....
if falshing directly not working from Kitchen you can now manually do it from CWM...
get into the checkrom thread and explore....everything is discussed there....
Yeah, I know that but since I lost root, KichenROM was not able to automatically boot in CWM and flash those downloaded file, I had to manually flash them.

I have the latin versionof Zoom running C101UBUAMF9. I am trying to created a modified stock ROM. I created the tar file using linux and even tried the TAR.md5 tool that was mentioned in the post. The flash fails at the system.img. I've made odin files for other phones successfully this way. Did you have to do anything different to make odin file work?
i flashed only the PDA and nothing was erased, everything is normal(so far).
what about CWM, there is no backup option there.
how can i update it?
Does anyone know if there's inactive hardware or something? I have the french zoom, some territories have lte but mine doesn't? I don't know if the hardware has just been deactivated or if it just doesn't have it
i dont understand what you mean hidden hardware.
Can we get OTA update by using this ROM?
can i just flash PDA just to gain root? will it be any side effects?
thanks for the method :fingers-crossed:

How to Upgrade/Roll Back on Stock ROM (Officially)

Many people here don't know how to roll back or update their phones' firmware, and that's why I'm making this guide. I hope that it's easy to understand for everyone.
HOW TO UPGRADE/DOWNGRADE STOCK OFFICIALLY
To do this process you do NOT need an unlocked bootloader, and it will NOT void your warranty. If you have an unlocked bootloader, it will also not lock it.
What you need:
-Your phone model (NOT THE MODEL LISTED ON THE FIRMWARE). Flip the phone and look where the ZTE logo is at, it should say either A2017, A2017U or A2017G.
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
-Stock recovery. If you didn't tamper with the device you'll most likely have this. If you have TWRP, you can use a flashable zip to get the stock recovery back. There are some for the A2017G, don't know about the others. You can find them at the Download Center. I recommend you to use the same recovery that your firmware version should have, for instance if you are on B04 use the one for B04 or maybe B03. But usually you shouldn' have trouble if you use an older one.
-The firmware that you'll install on the phone. You can either download it on a PC or on the phone itself, but you'll probably need to unzip it.
I recommend trying to download ot on the phone first. If it fails to download, the safe bet is using a PC though.
-RAR if you'll download the system on your phone, or an unzipper on your PC if you're gonna do it from there (7zip, winrar)
IF YOU ROLL BACK, ALL OF YOUR DATA (INTERNAL STORAGE INCLUDED) WILL BE WIPED. BACK UP EVERYTHING YOU CONSIDER IMPORTANT!
If you update, this usually does not happen, but always back everything up just in case.
Regardless that you download it via PC or phone, you'll need the system zip. Knowing the HARDWARE MODEL of the phone, download it either from the official ZTE pages, or via unofficial sites. If you download it from unofficial sites though, check that the zip is ~2.3 GB and that, if you open it with RAR or some zip manager, it has an update.zip inside and a PDF. If it has, follow the instructions; if not, just move it to the root of the sd card (/storage/emulated/0/) and go to Settings - Updates, and update. The A2017G has a list of previously unzipped system zips on the Guides section (Download Center by @raystef66, check it out)
If you know how to use an IDM, it can be very good on the phone. Just sayin'
For the A2017: http://www.zte.com.cn/china/sitecor...rt/detail?id=B4C0ACE418834F588FED0C72D6046C78
For the A2017G:
http://www.ztedevice.com/support/detail?id=98CEB24F9FFD433EA99EC424163149A6
For the A2017U: 'Tis a little bit more fuzzy, there's many different carrier ROMs and there's only one zip from the unlocked model page. Either find a package here on XDA or, if you solely want to update to Nougat, go to the official page and download the zip available for your carrier:
https://www.zteusa.com/support_page/
Select 'Smart phones', the carrier, and ZTE Axon 7 (Not 'ZTE Axon' nor 'ZTE Axon 7 Mini'!)
So, process:
a. If you'll use the Phone:
Once you have the system zip, install RAR from the Play store or an apk, and find the Downloads folder, and the zip you downloaded. The screenshots here are just emulating how one of the official files will look, the numbers of the zip are just random and the sizes are not realistic (I just took some files and renamed them ).
Open the zip, find the update.zip inside, select it with the checkmark, and unzip it.
RAR will ask you where to extract this. Just remove everything after /0/, like on the screenshot. Press OK.
Go to System Update on the Settings, and there should appear the zip, with an sd card icon. Press Update and you're done!
b. If you'll use the PC:
1. Download the zip on your PC.
2. Open your zip manager of choice and open the zip. Throw the update.zip on your desktop.
3. Connect your phone, open the internal storage and throw the update.zip inside.
4. Go to Settings, Updates, and the zip should pop up, with an sd-card thumbnail (even though it's not on an SD card, disregard that). Install, and you're done.
